I don't know about my favourite game ever, but there are a lot that I've played and enjoyed... yet, there are also many supposedly great ones that I've never even had the chance to see in action, let alone play, like the Chrono games, and the Dragon Quest/Warrior series.
I think FFT qualifies though. It's been too long since I last played it (for shipping reasons) and I've probably gone on about it so much around here that it's not healthy, so I'll make a dodge for now.
Hmmm, Lylat Wars (Star Fox 64) was something I really enjoyed. Almost everything about it just screamed out "badass" lol. I always thought of it as a tuned up version of R-Type, actually, because the difficulty level can sometimes become a nuisance and everything is just so hectic. The weapons are bizzare too, and each level adds to the depth of the challenge, so it's not your average shmup game.
Unfortunately, of all the games I've played, the bulk of them are on the crappy end of the spectrum, so I'd call a 'good games' scarce in this generation. To tell the truth, SF64 was something I randomly came up with just now, heh.

My favorite game is probably Jedi Knight2. Ive always been a star wars fan, and thins is the best star wars game I have ever played. The story is good, the graphics are very good. The game is now 2 years old, but it still provides some awesome visuals. This game also has lightsabers, and the best combat system I have seen in a SW game yet. It is simply awesome.
I think that I have many favorite games. I like Final Fantasy for the story, I enjoy Tekken for the thrill of the fight, but I'll tell you what game is most fun to me. I believe that Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City, and of course San Andreas (even though I have yet to play it) are the funnest video games. They are great games and they smoke the competition big time, no doubt about that.
Grand Theft Auto has many elements which make it my all time fave. First off, you have the element of freedom. The freedom in Grand Theft Auto to roam around and do practically anything you want is quite something if you ask me. It makes the game fun and very long-lasting. You don't just beat some missions then go put the game in the closet. You can do missions, or do tricks on bikes, or snipe people, or even save lives in an ambulance. The fact is that you can decide your life, and that makes this game get a 5/5 for freedom, lol.
The second element is all of the vehicles you can control. Not only can you drive cars and bikes and mopeds, but you can steal them from anyone when you feel like it. And the cars might need to be a little more varied, but they did a good job putting some fun rides in GTA, which gives the vehicle fun element a 4/5.
There are many other great things about GTA, but I just named a couple. This game certainly deserves a 10/10, because it is fun, long-lasting, and original. Even the voice-acting's good! This game is a must-have for any PS2 owner. (I can't wait for San Andreas.) :)
I know this is kind of old back and all but i think the game that i loved the most is Super Mario 64. So many good memories of me and my friends having "star-io parties" lol. I like it because it does take a while to beat (at least for the first time) and its just the right level of difficulty. very fun.

Yeah my favorite game is old school. I love Super Mario Bros. and 2 and 3 and the Lost World. Oh they are so much fun. Super Nintendo rocks.
Me and my cousins tried for like 4 years to complete all the games(we started when we were like 5, so we wernt really good at it) And while we tried to finish the games we memorized them. It was a big memory of my childhood. Haha I think I still have it! Im going to play it now!!! YES!

I know it is a very stupid subject but. What is your favorite video game and why.
Not stupid, just simply boring.
Anyways, as long as I'm here, might as well start. I have one favorite game, and a series, in which I love all the games.
Final Fantasy VII ranks as my most favorite. Why I like it, well, practically everything about it is bloody awesome (and I like pre-rendered graphics). So, think of practically all the aspects of the game, and there you go.
Second, it's Pokemon. I like all of them because they're just simply addictive and fun RPGs that you can take anywhere, play anywhere, and training monsters to kick others' a**es is just amusing in itself. Nuff said.

I've played a lot of video games, and it's hard to choose my outright favorite game, just because there have been so many amazing games released over the years, with tons more on the way. With that in mind, though, I have a game that I generally name as my favorite game of all time; it's stayed in that position since it was first released in 1992, as a matter of fact.
That game is The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. To me, this game is a perfect representation of what makes the Legend of Zelda franchise so great: Link to the Past has my favorite dungeons, the best bosses, the most consistent difficulty, and the best gameplay. The Light World serves as a good primer to get you set into the game, as the difficulty gradually rises with each dungeon you go through. Link to the Past's dungeons don't needlessly overwhelm you like so many other games try to do. The difficulty curve is one of the better ones I've seen in gaming.
The bosses can get plenty difficult, though, if you don't think that the game's dungeons are hard enough. Link to the Past's bosses are what I think that video game bosses should be: Big, intimidating and hard. The bosses require fast reflexes and faster thinking to beat, and the best strategies for beating each boss always make perfect sense.
I also like the wide variety of weaponry that you get in the game. There's tons of different items to use, and like in other Zelda games, they're not just tools to mindlessly beat the enemies of the games with; they're used very well within the puzzles of each dungeon. This is the one area that I feel that every Zelda has gotten right.
There are plenty more reasons why I love Link to the Past so much, but the reasons I outlined above are the big ones. I just feel that Link to the Past did so many things better than any game before it, and any game since.
Other games that are close to Link to the Past, for me, include Super Metroid, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Eternal Darkness, Star Fox 64, Perfect Dark and Super Mario 64.
my favorite games would have to be the Zelda games, any but the new Windmaker for gamecube... it's got awful animation and not a good plot (besideds Link's gone!:() if I had to chosse a favorite of the Zelda games I would deffedently say Orcirana of Time that was my favorite game for Nintendo 64 and I'd spend so much time playing it... when we first got it I was 7 I rember I'd always freak out when I went on that feild between Hyrule Castle, Lon Lon Ranch, Zora's Domain, Kokiri Forest, Death Montain and all the other places in Zelda I'd freak out at night because I didn't like all the zombies popping up at me so I'd have my big brother go through the feild for me... unless I was on Epona :sighs: Zelda was great I wish we had sold or N64;)

I'm currently diggin' The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. I've been playing that game for more than a month and I'm still finding tons of new stuff. I just barely beat the main plot yesterday! It's really immersive, and the plot is really open and it leaves you to a lot of improvisation. I loved how there was no right or wrong way to complete a quest.
Other games...hmmm...
I really like any Legend of Zelda, but Ocarina is definantly my favorite. I also didn't see what everyone's problem with Windwaker was. WW is probably my second favorite in the entire series. I also really liked Super Mario 64, it had some really great levels, and you never forgot where anything was, even months after beating it. I like most Final Fantasies, but I like VIII or X the most. I thought seven redefined the series, but eight refined the formula to almost perfection. Oh, and I also love Fire Emblem, if that wasn't obvious already. Hmm... I also really liked Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, for the PS1. Anyway, I really don't have a favorite game, but those are my favorites.

I apologize if I'm being too forward with this, but are you blind? lol
Wind Waker has some of the best animation I've ever seen in a video game, and it's easily one of the best looking and best animated games on the GameCube. I'm guessing that you're not a fan of the cel shaded graphics, and that's all well and good, but to say that Wind Waker's animation is awful is ludicrous lol. I won't argue about the plot, because that's completely subjective - some people will enjoy it, and some people won't. But, yeah, I don't see how you can argue that Wind Waker has bad animation.

Agreed. Cel-shaded is the best. It is a very special version of animation that reminds me a hell of alot about anime, but i DO agree that it was gay to take out link, i mean he was so damn kool, the whole storyline revolved around him and zelda, so who can it be Legend of Zelda without Zelda? HMM? HOW THE **** CAN IT!
yes thats wat i feel no Link and no Zelda
...our memory card went for a swim in the washing machine along with a pair of my big brothers pants... so weve had to re-do every game on that memory card (and we had most of our games saved on that one) but he just got to the part with the Deku tree and Kokiris when I first saw them I totaly flipped out because... they werent people in green tonics with pointy ears but... oddness then they explained that they only took on human forms ...oddness -O.O- (glasses... its Harry Potter!)
but no I'm not a big fan of the Cel-shaded stuff I really liked the drawings to the original stuff guess it wasn't nesiserily the animation but how it was drawn ...or is that the same thing? :feels stupid:

What?
I couldn't help but notice that you mentioned that Nintendo 'took out Link' from Wind Waker. Unless you had some sort of lapse of consciousness the entire time you were playing Wind Waker and didn't notice that you were controlling Link, I'm going to take a wild stab and guess that you were talking about the Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask Link.
So, why does it matter what Link you play as? Link is Link, whether he's the Ocarina style Link or not. Should we disregard every other Legend of Zelda game, too, just because they don't have the same Link in it?
Also...I don't get what you're saying when you say that Zelda isn't in Wind Waker lol. It's made quite clear throughout the game that Tetra is Zelda. Just like many of the Links are different, the Zeldas throughout the series are also different. There is no one Link, and there is no one Zelda. Period. I don't really see what you're trying to say with that lol.
Well I haven't played it in a while, but I have to say my favorite game has to be Treasure's Gunstar Heroes for the Sega Genesis.
For those who don't know, its a great side scrolling shooter full of great level designs, some great boss battles, and lots of explosions.
The subway level along with its giant transforming boss has to be one of the coolest/most enjoyable gaming experiences I've ever had.
And who can forget the boardgame level and its massive amounts of mini-bosses?
The custom weapon upgrades were also a nice aspect of the game, my favorite always being the enemy seeking green triangle thingys.
The game also mixed genre's with it's mid-game space shooter level, adding to its all around greatness.
If ya haven't played it you should try and find a copy, or better yet write a bunch of letters to Sega, in favor of re-releasing it on a newer system. That would be great, especially since my Genesis has stopped working.

I agree with a lot of you guys when you say you cant just pick one. So i'll just make a short list.
1.Grandia 2: This game was pretty long for one disc. Good story, nice combat system and a great rpg.
2.All sonic games: I still haven't gotten sick of the intense speed and the adreneline from zippin around all those levels.
3.Megaman Battlenetwork 1-4:These games are addictive and are definitly worth trying for those who haven't heard of it for some strange reason
<_< >_>.
^_^
4.Metroid Prime: This game had me stuck on puzzles for hours. The fights were insane near the end and pretty good detail on the landscapes.

Sigh. ... Okay, anyone who's wanted to see this thread stay open, you have three people to thank: Shinmaru, Lord Eliwood, and WW2. If not for their high quality posts, I would have just closed this thread straight off instead of taking the time to delete the spammy posts and letting the thread continue.
So if anyone's wondering where their post in this thread went, that's what happened. This thread has been on the edge of being closed pretty much since it began, but I'm giving it one last chance. Spammy posts that I just deleted ranged from the insufficient "I like such-and-such" answers, to off topic posts, to posts with unacceptably bad levels of spelling/grammar. And if those kinds of posts continue, I won't hesitate to close the thread.

I'm going deep into the past on this one.
The first Kirby game's my favorite, even today it's my favorite game to pick up and play. It was my first non-tetris gameboy game and it rocked! It was just a simple concept, little marshmellow guy can suck up and spit out enemies and fly. That was enough genius for me. I think what really proved to me that it's my favorite is what happened a couple years back. At some point I had totally forgotten about Kirby after Superstar and moved on to N64 and Playstation. Then one day my buddy was playing a gameboy game with a familiar tune and I asked him what it was. He showed me his screen and it was the title screen with a line of dancing Kirbys, out of nowhere all my memories of Kirby hit me and I swear I shed a tear. Once I got home I immediately ransacked my room, found the game, and played it on my old gameboy.
I think i'll go play it right now.

I couldn't pick just one, so heres 3...
I'm a big fan of FF7 as well, I don't think theres a game I've spent more time on, considering I've beaten it so many times, I wanted to do all the character combinations, get all the materia, etc.
I really liked Suikoden III, I've seen VI and well, it looks terrible lol, but Suikoden III was definitely one of my favorite games, it had 108 characters characters for god sake
Lastly I liked Star Ocean 2, Star Ocean 3 was of course really good, but Star Ocean 2 is the one that really got me into the series

While Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy, and Golden Sun are all really great games, but my favorite game of all time is Ratchet and Clank Going Commando. The weapons are amazing, the difficulty is perfect, the platforming is amazing, and it all ties together insanely well. Sure there isn't much story, but its still likeable. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give it a 9.6, he highest score I have ever given a game. I wrote a full review on gamefaqs.com.

Have any of you even heard of Tales of Symphonia? I'd have to say that it and Final Fantasy IX are my two favorite games. I mean, come on, the intricate story line, the unexpected plot twists, the undeniable fact that those games are addictive? And don't forget Tales of Symphonia's unique battle style. The only downside to FF IX would have to be the somewhat DBZ feel that I get from it, but I guess that would have to be part of its charm.

I can't pick one from these two, but here are my two choices, both from the NES:
Punch-Out!- How can you not like this game? The addictive gameplay mixed with the wondeful controls/characters make for a wonderful experiance and a great time. I could play this game hours on end and still not tire of it.
Super Mario Bros. 3- I think I like this game just due to the fact that it brings back so many great memories for me. When I think of this game I think back to being in elementary school and pulling all nighters just to try and make it through this game. Plus after all these years I can go back and play it and not feel a bit different towards it. It is still an awesome game.

My favorite video game is Half Life 2.
This game was just amazing. The graphics, sound, physics, and characters were perfect. The use of physics was revolutionary and the pace of the game never let up. As you went through the game it just kept getting better and better. Air boat to gravity gun to Ravenholm to Buggy to Antlions to Striders to the super gravity gun; it was just incredible.
Resident Evil 4 and The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time are tied for second.

I've played so many video games over the years that I'm not sure I could simply pick one and cal it my favourite. I mean you can't really compare whether GoldenEye 64 was a better game than Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time [just picking two great Nintendo 64 games for the sake of it] because they’re two totally different games on two totally different genres. However since this is merely based on personal favourites, rather than trying to establish the “Best Video Game” of all time I guess I can make a go at it.
GoldenEye 64: The best Shooter I have ever played without a shadow of a doubt, and probably one of the best multiplayers too. GoldenEye was brilliant for just so many reasons, not only because the movie version had an excellent plot on which to base the game, but also because it had such amazing gameplay, you actually felt that you were James Bond when you played that game. Yes there were a few weapons that could have been better [the Klobb was a gun that you avoided with all effort], but overall it was just a gaming experience, as I have yet to play a shooter that has been as good [HL:2 decided it didn’t want to work] or had such a great and fun multiplayer aspect to it. Definitely a game Nintendo should try and secure the right to remake.
Knights of the Old Republic: This is without a doubt the single best Star Wars game that has been released, as well as being one of the great Role-Playing Games. The mix of the sheer power of the Star Wars saga, as well as some truly great characters and gaming moments makes this a definitely game to play for any serious gamer. On the technical side the game graphics still hold up well 2 years after it’s been released, it has an excellent skill and feat system, the score to the game is great and overall there are very few flaws with the game itself. Yes probably the only flaws are that the game is slightly short [25 hours to get through a game if not less, as my own record is 19] and you really only care about maybe 5 of the 9 characters.
Final Fantasy VI: I haven’t beaten the game yet, and I’ve only played VI, VII, VIII and X so I can’t really saw it’s the best Final Fantasy game as there are five that I haven’t played. However Final Fantasy VI is definitely the best of the games that I have played, the story and characters are far, far superior to that of many of the other games, although to be fair VII is a very good game. That said VI has a superb story to it, a villain that you actually loathe with all your heart and characters that you actually do begin to care for. The gameplay is still great after all these years, although the graphics are quite dated [the movies in the PSOne version are very good though] but even the graphics don’t hold back what is a truly compelling game. I really have to finish it at some stage...
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker: Probably only loses out to A Link to the Past in terms of gameplay, but I prefer TWW for everything else. TWW’s animation was probably the best thing about it as the cel-shaded graphics added a kind of whimsical, fairy-tale dimension to it, which really did suit the game. The return of Z-Targeting and all the usual Zelda controls made the game feel right, and added to this the fact that the story was top-notch made the game a real feather in Nintendo’s cap. Some people have complained about the fact that you had to spend so much time exploring the sea in order to unlock the game’s secrets, but I found it to be the most relaxing part of the game. My only real complain with the game was Tingle, I loathe that lycra-clad little gremlin, and there is no way he should be able to demand such vast amounts for his services.
Well that’s me all done.

I agree that Tales of Symphonia is a truly great game, but I havent played much of it so I dont know just how great it is. The charachters are possibly the best charachters in any game I have ever played, which is why I would never in my LIFE compare it to Dragon Ball Z. I love that its very lighthearted and I feel comfortable playing it. One problem, if you can call it that, is that I tend to drink excessive ammounts of lemonade while playing it.
Well, my two favorite games since they have been released are Knights of the Old Republic, and Knights of the Old Rebublic 2: The Sith Lords. However, I have been at odds deciding on which is better.
KotOR was the original, obviously, and I still remember the feeling of nervous excitement I had when I, after months of waiting and reading every damn article that had been published about it, finally got to play the game. My attention span has a tendency to be quite short, and so this title (as well as its sequal) hold their own as the only RPG's I have played through twice. Though, in fairness, this is basically a given with the light/darkside allignments that the game offers.
The story in the first KotOR is superior to that of KotOR2 (I recall grinning wildly when the identity of the main character was revealed). However, the gameplay, in retrospect, now seems limited having played KotOR2, and the characters within the game also seem weaker overall. As Gavin stated, I found myself completely disconnected from most of the games characters (I swear if I had to hear Mission call Zaalbar "Big Z" one more time...). This, however, I feel is KotOR2's strength. The characters seem to have far more depth to them, and overall have a far more attractive appeal to their personalities than the first game (especially Kreia, I especially admired the way her character, one of manipulation and shadow, eventually weeded into the overall plot, though because of the weaker story I saw it coming a mile away). I also thought that Sion was a much more convincing Sith than Malak was. Malak always seemed like a dog who had been let off his leach, and didn't have a clue what to do with all the freedom. Sion was: "We have all but destroyed the Jedi Knights... The Old Republic is crippled." Merciless, hateful, terribly successful, and with one hell of a cool voice. Having said that, I have played through KotOR2, and still have no idea what Nihlius was doing there. If anyone can enlighten me to this, please do.
Another aspect I find weaker in the first is the locations used. From now on, any game that goes to "Tatooine" and says it's important to the plot should be shot out of a cannon, into the Sun. I mean seriously, it's a desert. There was, and will never be anything there save Luke Skywalker's former home. Just leave it be at that. They were probably going to go to Endor aswell before one of the developers noticed and changed it to Kashyyyk. Now, in KotOR2 you get to visit far more interesting places that have gained much appeal through the EU, such as Nar Shaddaa and Onderon. Though I wasn't a fan of going back to Korriban and Dantooine. I mean, Dantooine was sensible as it had a connection to the plot, but putting Korriban in there just seemed like they weren't in the mood to design another location and so just churned up one from the original.
KotOR2 also carries a more menacing feel than the first, and this is set from the get-go, when you wake up on a mining facility, with it's entire crew dead, and your only clues a series of holo recordings that just raise more questions than give answers. Add to that you soon find out that the Sith are mercilessly hunting you, and the game takes on a very dark motif indeed. KotOR was more plot driven, and didn't seem to rely as much on mood (which isn't a bad thing in any respect).
Well, I went off on a bit of a rant there, just shows how much I love these games. With any luck, KotOR3 will blow them both out of the water so that, not only will I have a single favorite game, but also because it would have to be a classic to upstage the first two.

Well Yoda...You and I are very alike in our thoughts of those two spectacular games. However I have some differences...you say that Malak was a terrible Sith I disagree...I feel that the "dog" feel to him was appropriate. If you'll recall he was a mere apprentice...he was still new to being the Sith Lord...I think they worked it out nicely. Although Sion was definetly a bit more evil.
The definetly could have done without Tatooinee...lol...but the Wookie planet? Come one how can you say no to "Rawwwr!" I mean really...That statement is far too compelling...and the only reasons you had to go there was of course the star maps...that was it..that was why the story took you there...
To try and solve your quetion about Nihlius...well you'll have to look somewhere else for advice on that...I will firuge it out...I jsut haven't yet :animesigh
So yeah, I loved KotR and the sequel...but honestly a favorite Video game...are you crazy...I love all of them...that's why I got them...sure some sucked ***...but I only rented them or sold them as soon as I could before someone found out I actually baught them like...*shudders* Unlimited Saga...I have yet to find someone who liked that game...

This is a very hard question to answer. So, instead of just limiting it down to one game, I'm going to point out a little slew of games I enjoy.
Dance Dance Revolution is a game I enjoy. I've been playing it about 5 or so months at this point, usually daily, although lately I've been taking it easy. This game is so great because it's so simple, yet it takes a lot more skill. If you're familiar with it, you've seen people DDRing and they make it look so easy. But once you get up on the dance pad and try to dance so fast your legs are burning fire, it's a lot harder than you'd think. I'm far from becoming the best at this game, and it's crazy how good some people are at this game. It's kind of frustrating but at the same time, it makes you more determined to get better, to get that good. The game also implements exercise, which is something a lot of people don't get enough of. It's also addicting.
Parasite Eve has always been one of my more favorite games. It's probably an odd choice since a lot of people might disagree on its greatness. But I really enjoy it. What I enjoy most about it was how fresh it felt when I first played it way back in '97 or whenever it came out. It's basically an RPG, but it mixes survivor horror elements as well as adventure elements, creating truly original gameplay. It's also got a nice plot and story that keeps you playing. It's flawed, though: it's short. Although the Chrysler building makes up for this, and also the EX game, critics' main harping point has always been it's too short.
Chrono Trigger is just a game that I think is generally loved to death. In this gaming age I notice some of the newer gamers haven't played it. If you haven't played this game, you must. It was a game released way back in the 16-bit days of the Genesis and the SNES, but it's a real gem of a game, and you should let none of your gaming biases get in the way of seeing this. Sure, the graphics may be 2D, and aren't as good as the eye candy we see today. But that doesn't matter with a game such as this. It's a timeless game that has an amazing plot and it's a game that nearly any gamer can pick up and enjoy very much.
Starcraft is an amazing RTS. I've been playing it for years and it hasn't gotten old. This game can sap hours and hours of your life. To this day, battle.net still has quite a number of people coming onto SC and still playing it online. It's that good.
