About the Anime Club
The Anime Club is a weekly room in theOtaku's community chat (you must be a theO member for 45 days before you can enter chat) where we meet to have fun laughing, crying, heckling, and spazzing together while watching a few episodes of anime. Rather than watching mainstream shows, however, we pick out good, yet lesser-known anime as an opportunity for people to enjoy new shows. Streaming links are usually provided for those without a copy of the anime.
Current Anime
Genshiken 2 is the 12 episode continuation of the first season. Sasahara Kanji is now the chairman of Genshiken and the show follows his struggles in organizing the group to produce a doujinshi manga for Comic Fest. Meanwhile, the others have problems of their own. Graduation is fast approaching for the seniors and finding a job is no small task.

Kare Kano (aka His and Her Circumstances) is a 26 episode romantic comedy about Miyazawa Yukino ( Enomoto Atsuko), a vain high school girl who acts like miss perfect to garner praise and attention, and Arima Souichirou ( Suzuki Chihiro), her classmate who really is mister perfect. Through rivalry, manipulation, and curiosity the two grow closer and experience the drama of high school romance together.

Oh, nice, this is a good idea. Why the hell didn't we think of this earlier? Haha.
Anyway, I wholeheartedly encourage all anime fans at OB to attend the Anime Club meetings -- if you've had an account at theO for more than 45 days, then you should be able to get into the chat no problem. I have had lots of fun with the club ever since it started, and it has exposed me to a lot of shows I haven't seen before.

I actually thought of it about a month ago, I was just lazy in putting it up. Partly because I wanted to get the new table bbcode (I suppose I should make an announcement about that) added first, which required a couple hours of template tweaking and testing to make sure I didn't break anything while making the site's stylesheet play nice with stuff inside the td tags.
By the way, if people want to start bringing up shows they'd like watch in Anime Club, that would be great. I figure OB here will provide a better place for that than in the Watercooler comments.
I figure the way we'll start deciding new shows is having everyone able to nominate one anime for each time we switch shows. Anything is fair game as long as it's anime, not already super-popular like Naruto, Bleach, etc., and not too graphically explicit (think PG-13 level content or thereabout). I'll sort through the nominations and then, a couple weeks before the current show ends, I'll put up a poll to vote on which one or two of the nominations should be watched. And people can also keep nominating/voting through the Watercooler comments if they don't have an OB account.
Personally, I'm pushing for Ichigo Mashimaro (aka Strawberry Marshmallow) once Lovely Complex and Kurenai are over. It's one of my favorite straight-up comedies and has tons of really funny slapstick and sight gags. It's very cute but it doesn't feel at all forced; the little girls just act like little girls and it naturally ends up that way. There's no ongoing plot, either, so it would be easy for people to jump in and out if they can't make it some nights.

I'll go ahead and mention it now, but I'm not making it this week. I've got a basketball game that pep band has to play for. I did take the liberty of watching LoveCom early this week, though.
Haha, you guys get to meet Maity this week.

: O! An awesome idea! I'll have to watch the other episodes of Lovely Complex first, though it's a show I've been interested in so not a problem... though most likely I'll just watch the rest of it since I'm unable to watch a show over multiple weeks like that. Kure-nai, however, I've already seen twice, and always have time for! I can't wait to see people's reactions to episode 6, the greatest episode of anime ever.
Oh, and if you're going for great underground shows, The Legend of Black Heaven is the most underrated show of all time.

Hmm...most of the series I'm wanting to recommend are still airing...
...as crazy as it seems? Lucky Star. 24 episodes, one OVA, plenty of people like it, and it's episodic, so people can miss weeks if they need to and not miss any sort of story. But that's my serious recommendation. >_>
Oh. Once it is finished, we absolutely, positively, definitely MUST watch Maria Holic. I just hope the OP sequence doesn't scare some people away from it [but if anyone's watched SHAFT'S other cracky series, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (and we have), then it's really nothing new, lol].

This sentence says something else when you're not looking.

I am not necessarily going to push super hard for shows I nominate, mostly because I am much more interested in watching shows I haven't seen before, but I'll throw out nominations all the same.
Anyway, whilie I've been thinking about licensed shows to watch, my first nomination isn't going to take advantage of the new rules -- I'll be backing ef - a tale of memories. It's a 12 episode series following three main stories among a variety of characters. The overall story is well done, and the characters develop beautifully, but the real reason a tale of memories stands above other shows is that the visual storytelling and direction is off the charts fantastic. The show is produced by SHAFT, so think of the style as (sort of) like a dramatic Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. If that description leaves you skeptical, well, I defy anyone to not fall in love with the show while watching it.

Hmmm....well, I can't think of many that would be too popular...or considered just plain stupid. But heck, I'll give it a shot.
Off the top of my head, xxxHolic
. 24 episodes and 2 OVAs, so its not that long. Although, this is a CLAMP anime...so that may not work. But I haven't heard much about it, so....
And then, Tales of Eternia. Yeah...another Tales series. 13 episodes. Art style looks like some twisted hentai anime to me, but, that aside...why not.
And I think I'll support Shin's nomination of A Tale of Memories...that anime's had my eye for awhile, but I've yet to get to it.
Side note- I should be actually showing up in the club once a new series starts

I'm thinking we should find something nostalgic some time, if we've lifted the license rule. I'd suggest Digimon Adventure, but I'd end up recommending the subs in order to see how they compare with memories of the show. Unfortunately, the only good sub group I know of that was covering the series just dropped it (with like ten episodes to go. What the hell?) Other suggestions include Medabots and Monster Rancher (Which have no subs as far as I can tell, so the dubs would be the way to go with those.) Not right away, of course, but something to think about.
Minami-Ke: Okawari is done being subbed, by the way. That would be a good place to go if we want to continue a series we've already seen.

Even though I wasn't here long enough to be in the anime club, *sniffff.*
I would like to recomend the series Ergo Proxy. It was on Fuse for like 16 episodes and didn't even get to the end. I would love to see the end of the series.

Sounds like fun. I really should try to have a social life, but I don't so I'm usually in and online around that time. So yeah I'll be there.

I just realized today (26/12/09) that I've been a member of Otakuboards longer than I was married. Horray for longevity!
The Twilight saga in a nutshell is one girl's love triangle where she has to make a choice between necromancy and beastiality. Sounds kosher to me

The voting's over and here's how they stacked up:
| Votes | Anime | Voters | | 4 | Ichigo Mashimaro | Desbreko, Driffter, Shinmaru, Shishou | | 4 | Kanon | Desbreko, Driffter, Michiyo Shimizu, Shishou | | 4 | The Vision of Escaflowne | redjacketalchemis, Ryo, Sangome, Shinmaru | | 3 | Bounen no Xamdou | 2009DigitalBoy, Miss Anonymous, Ryo | | 3 | Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens | Michiyo Shimizu, Miss Anonymous, Sangome | | 2 | ef - a tale of memories | 2009DigitalBoy, redjacketalchemis |
I rolled a six-sided die to determine which two of the tying anime would be picked. Sides 1-2 were for Escaflowne, 3-4 for Ichigo Mashimaro, and 5-6 for Kanon. I rolled a four and a five, so there you go.
Starting March 28, Ichigo Mashimaro will be watched first, followed by Kanon. And since Kanon is 24 episodes compared to Ichigo Mashimaro's 12, we'll be back at this in another few weeks to choose something to replace Ichigo Mashimaro when it ends.
Just wanted to let people know, nominations are open again for what to replace Ichigo Mashimaro with when it ends. Kanon is longer, so we'll continue with its second half, but we don't necessarily have to pick another short series to match up with it. Feel free to nominate/vote for whatever you like and I'll deal with the scheduling.
Just posting a reminder that we're starting The Vision of Escaflowne next week.
