So long, Geocities
Yahoo recently announced the closing of Geocities. (Link)

When I first heard this news, it filled me with some amount of sadness. I was in middle school in the late 90's, which (news articles tell me) makes me part of the first real "Web" generation. There's a lot of nostalgia there, in the annals of the historic 90's internet—and Geocities was at the forefront of that, leading the charge with a certain brand of personal website that the internet will probably never see again. (We should probably all be thankful for that, but there is nevertheless a sadness in its passing.)

Anyway, this post is just a long, roundabout way of giving context to the following sentence:

Check out this cool link I found!

P.S. If anyone still knows where their old Geocities site is, you should post a link for us.

...Is it okay if I hold you solely responsible for the death of Geocities now?

I never used it, but that is kind of a shame. Especially since they don't offer another type of free hosting service. So people who simply did it for fun, will have to go elsewhere if they wish to keep having a site.

Shame, I remember when it was all the rage to have a Geocities site, but then I also remember when it was all the rage to have a MyOtaku page. All part of the changing times I suppose.

Oh man.. while it doesn't directly effect me, or any of the sites I visit, it's still a shame to see Geocities go. I remember when most of the websites were Geocities. All those old Sailor Moon webpages, and such.. with those good ol' error pages. ; ;

Times are 'a changin'. xD

I believe I have another account that I used on here for sometime.. but I can't for the life of me remember the username. xD;

Say wha?! I'm so out of the loop. I've used Geocities since the late ninties, I've had several websites through them. Three of which are still up, but apparently not for long. Thats sad, I have a lot of memories with them too. Links below.

> SaiyanPrincessX's Page < : Personal artwork. I've had this site for nearly nine years.

> The Mummies Tomb < : Obsession I had with The Mummy movies.

> Digital Dojo < : Obsession I hade of The Matrix movies.

It's strange to imagine that Geocities will be gone, but at the same time I guess I haven't visited a Geocities site for the better part of five years. There was a brief spell when everyone on OB was creating their own Geocities sites and message boards... bleh. I made more than a few of them myself, but none of them seem to exist anymore.

But OtakuPike does!

I wouldn't have even thought of their existence if no one had ever mentioned it, lol. Though it was a good start into the whole web design thing, at least for me. I use Notepad for all my needs nowadays. The only thing I wish it had was that color-coding stuff that things like FrontPage do.

Kind of lame that they're leaving current hostees in the dust, though.

That's rather shocking news considering, AE started on Geocities along with many other Anime websites. I guess it's not surprising honestly considering there's a million other free hosting services available these days with better offers. Even the paid for hosting is rather affordable these days. Next will be angelfire to go under if it hasn't already.

I know I rarely update it, and people rarely visit.. and I was planning on updating the layout some time, too... D:

Things really do change... Oh, well... Better find some better free host to toss in my junk, eh? (One with PHP support, I hope) Good thing my entire site is still saved in my hard drive...

So long Geocities. It was fun.

And to think I had a decent design going for my Realm...

One last look before it goes down the drain? Link

Oh wow. o_O I never used the service, but I often found interesting stuff on the sites people would make with it. It's too bad that they're not offering any form of free service to replace it. Though since there are others out there, I suppose that's kind of irrelevant.

Otaku Pike! Wow, I completely forgot about that place. Even though most of those links don't even work anymore.

TOPAZ's(Mary Young) website OpenLegends I believe was started with Geocities. Heres the link, you can only find it through the Wayback internet thing now.
