Gaming ffxiv reborn

Hi there everyone! It's Pumpkin. I know a lot of you came over and played Guild Wars 2 which is one of the most popular games out right now for mmorpgs. But I was wondering how many of you are going to be buying or trying out ffxiv reborn? It's the old final fantasy mmorpg but it got completely remade. My friend is in the beta, and he claims it is AMAZING. I know the graphics are really top notch and supposedly the combat system is very addicting. I'm wondering for those roleplayers on the site if you are possibly going to play? If so what class/race will you choose?   Personally, I'm going to be going for the feline race as probably a white mage or summoner. If you haven't heard about this game I suggest you read up on it, because the changes they made are perfect for a social gamer such as myself.

    Gaming Guild Wars 2

So I just got an email telling me to pre-order Guild Wars 2 to get beta access and early access to the actual game. Who is doing this? I would have done this immediately two years ago, but lately I haven't been thinking about GW2 at all anymore, let alone the original game. I just happened to have started the game by accident today and I took the opportunity to see what annual presents I got this year. They don't give boxes anymore. :( But who's excited?!

    Gaming Tera Online MMORPG

Hey everybody. It's Pumpkin here. So if you haven't heard TERA online is featuring a 7-day trial account thats right it's FREE! I honestly tried out TERA a month ago despite what the horrible things I've heard on mmorpg.com and I LOVE it. I know most people are waiting for GW2 because its F2P but if your looking for something to play in the meantime I highly recommend trying the trial out. So far on my server (celestial hills) I have met a great amount of awesome people and had fun questing/instances. I'm currently a castanic sorcerer so if you do decide to check it out add me at Akishunda. I'm just curious how many of you out there have tried this game out so far?

    Gaming DmC: Devil May Cry

1up - A IGN - 8.9 Gamespot - 8.0 Gametrailers - 8.5   With that said, people are going ham over this (still going ham). I definitely think Capcom/Ninja Theory has succeeded in alienating their fan base. As for me, I don't have the game yet, and still undecided on if I'll get the game or not. On one hand, as far as gameplay I like what I'm seeing. I won't say it looks as good or as stylish as DMC3 or 4, but it looks good. On the other, the atmosphere of the game is really off-putting, not only that, but the environment and graphics. Don't get me wrong the game looks good, but everything moving around the way it does and then the bright colors, it really messes with my eyes. I don't wear glasses or anything, but looking at that stuff too long will make me feel dizzy.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRmD4RFDeq8   Anybody have the game yet? Thoughts?

    Gaming DotA 2 keys giveaway

I have a few DotA 2 keys that I'm wanting to give away. I probably around six keys left. If you, or anyone you know, wants a DotA 2 key, just let me know, and I'll be glad to give you a key (you need a Steam account). Here's a video of gameplay of player submitted clips with some pretty good plays Also, someone actually made their own animation combining DotA 2 and My Little Pony, which I found pretty cute (using the DotA 2 Gamescom trailer audio). Gaming XCOM: Enemy Unknown

I haven't posted a topic in this forum in forever, so I thought I'd post about a game I just bought yesterday. The game is XCOM: Enemy Unknown (hereafter just referred to as XCOM), which is essentially a re-imagining of an older title (which I have never actually played, but am now keen to try). This is really my first new Xbox 360 title for a while. I have to admit that XCOM was really not on my radar as far as new games go, but I had read a few reviews of this game over the last week and they really convinced me to give it a try. If you're unfamiliar with XCOM in general, then the best way to describe it is probably to say that it's a bit like Civilization mixed with Final Fantasy Tactics. That is to say, you have a team of units (a squad) and your battles are turn-based. At the same time, you have a home base that you expand and you also have a research tree associated with this (so you can research new upgrades and technologies, which you can then manufacture). Whilst all this is happening, you have to manage the needs of the nations that are funding the XCOM program (e.g. if you neglect, say, China for too long while it is being continuously attacked by aliens, it will eventually withdraw from the program entirely). I've only had a day with this game so far, but I'm finding it to be incredibly addictive. Although turn-based, the action moves pretty quickly. Also, interestingly, I've found that my squad are not simply canon-fodder - or at least, I don't view them that way as I play. Maybe it is because each squad member is individually-designed, or maybe it is because each squad member essentially has a "career" where they continually build up skills and specialities. Either way, losing a squad member (which has real permanency in XCOM) never ceases to bring about a genuine emotional sting. The actual gameplay is pretty straightforward, especially if you've played Civilization before. Each squad member has two moves per turn, and it's up to you how you "spend" those moves. You might use one move to get behind an object for cover, and then use the other move to fire at an enemy. Within that context there are numerous speciality skills that can be utilised - one of my favourites is "Overwatch", which basically means that your squad member stands sentry and if an enemy moves within their line of sight, they will automatically fire upon said enemy (without taking up a move). One of my favourite aspects of the game is the fact that the environment itself has a major impact on the a squad member's percentage likelihood to successfully hit an alien target. When you go to fire at a target, you'll see both a percentage chance to strike the target plus a percentage chance to achieve critical damage. These percentages are heavily influenced by things like relative height to the target, distance, and the kind and number of objects between yourself and the target (firing through a glass window is different than trying to fire through a wall, for example). The strategy shifts significantly as you play, both because the environments themselves are highly destructible and because the game gradually introduces new enemies with unique (and horrifying) capabilities. You often feel that the odds are against you, but clever strategy and patience usually gets you through. So far I would say that my biggest issue with the game is probably the actual "base mode" part of it. I love the idea of the high strategy that underpins the core ground missions, but sometimes it feels a bit loose and ambiguous. As the game progresses, you end up managing a ton of aspects of your base and its peripheral activities - personally, this can sometimes feel like too much. And because there are so many interdependencies between your research and what you construct (whether it is facilities or weapons/objects for your squad), I found myself getting a little lost here and there. It can feel like a lot to wade through. Having said that, I'm still really enjoying the game and it's definitely very addictive. I highly recommend it. I haven't yet tried multiplayer and I'm not really sure about the structure of that...but if anyone here has both XCOM and Xbox Live, let me know your GamerTag if I don't have it already. If multiplayer is anywhere near as good as the single player mode, then I'm sure I'll love that too.
  8. [s]Yay thread resurrection[/s] Yes, Black 2 and White 2. Not Grey. Not a single, enhanced version, like we've got in past generations. Black 2 and White 2. Not many details are known about the game at this time, aside from the two mascots for each version- Black Kyurem and White Kyurem (different forms of Kyurem, in case you couldn't tell). Some new scans have recently surfaced and are apparently legit- behold the main characters and rival. The girl with a guitar is apparently a Gym leader. No details on the others shown yet. There's also some random bits here. If I had to take a guess, I'd say either Unova has changed drastically or we didn't see all of it in the original B/W. The games will be released in Japan this summer, and the U.S. and Europe this Fall. So, uh. Thoughts? Hate? Love? RAEG?
  9. Lets try to get some activity going on here. http://www.1up.com/previews/metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-preview For those who don't want to open the link
As part of an event celebrating the 25th anniversary of Metal Gear in Japan last night -- the original MSX2 title came out in 1987 -- Hideo Kojima and company had a big surprise to share along with a look back at the history of the franchise. A brand-new Metal Gear Solid game made its debut, and while those in attendance were not allowed to film the 20-minute demo that ensued, accounts of what took place have come out and should pique the curiosity of even those who have grown tired of the series' formula. We know very little in the way of hard details concerning the curiously titled Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes. The reportedly impressive-looking gameplay demonstration was powered by Kojima Productions' Fox Engine, first revealed last year, which was running on a PC with current-gen hardware. Following a scene with a young boy and an older man who was accompanied by soldiers and guard dogs in which we see an "XOF" emblem, the phrase "From FOX, two phantoms were born" appears on-screen. Next we see a man with an eyepatch and facial hair who appears to be identical to Big Boss and is only referred to as "Snake." A patch on his shoulder seems to support that this is Big Boss and the game will take place in or around the 1970s, a theory that isn't disproved based on the level of technology seen in the video. Of course, given what Kojima has done in the past, it's impossible to know if Big Boss (or a Big Boss look-alike) will be the game's protagonist or if he is merely a placeholder. What's potentially even more exciting than the return of Big Boss are indications that Ground Zeroes will be an open-world title. Aside from engaging in the kinds of things we expect the star of an MGS game to do, like crawl around while prone and take out security guards, there was evidence that player freedom will be a major point of emphasis. GameSpot describes the military base Snake explores as feeling "expansive and huge," and Snake has the ability to drive around in a jeep or call in a helicopter to transport him around, neither of which points to a linear game. Kojima indicated he hopes to provide players with the ability to use all of Snake's tools to escape when discovered instead of presenting them with a game-over screen, something that would work best in an open world. Further supporting the idea that Ground Zeroes will be more open-world-like is the fact that, last we heard, Kojima was at work on Project Ogre, a game he himself described as being "very free" and set in an open world that players could explore at their leisure. He also claimed the game would provide new things to do and places to find after 100 hours of play. Rather than Big Boss being a placeholder for some other protagonist, it could be that Project Ogre was the next MGS title all along and that it was presented as something unrelated until now, although we don't know if that is accurate at this point. If it is the case, this would be a dramatically different direction for a series that is traditionally more linear and cutscene-heavy. In addition to his description of it as being "very free," Kojima indicated last year that his next project would avoid being "something very cinematic," which would suggest Ground Zeroes will spend more time in control of the action. Although long cutscenes are frowned upon in many games, they are an intrinsic part of the franchise and the notion of having a Metal Gear Solid game that strays from that is rather odd. Assuming Ground Zeroes does prove to be as different as this first look (and previous details on Project Ogre) would suggest, I find myself very excited. A stealth-based, open-world game would be unlike the vast majority of open-world games on the market, as they tend to follow the Grand Theft Auto III mold in being more action-oriented. As with any change to an established franchise, should Ground Zeroes be leaving behind both the structure and cinematic-heavy nature of previous MGS games, longtime fans may take issue with this game carrying the MGS name regardless of who the main character is. That's even more true because, as we're seeing with Revengeance, it's not as if Konami is against dropping the 'Solid' part of the Metal Gear Solid name when it's necessary. Until an open-world game can be shown to drive the kind of narrative experience fans want from an MGS title, there will be a heavy amount of skepticism surrounding the game. And it may be a while yet before fans can be convinced Kojima knows what he's doing -- the game has been designed with the current consoles in mind, but as the Fox Engine is built to support next-gen consoles, it's possible we'll be waiting until Microsoft and Sony's new platforms arrive before we get to play Ground Zeroes for ourselves. What's sure to frustrate fans in the meantime is the lack of confirmed information: no release date, no guarantee Big Boss is the protagonist, no word on where this fits into the overall storyline. However many things may be in the air at the moment, though, the potential for a proper Metal Gear Solid experience to unfold within the framework of an open-world game where you can tackle things in any order and feel like you are actually deciding how Snake approaches a situation is very intriguing, if nothing else.
Heck, I'm still anticipating Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and they're already bringing another, and going back to the "Solid" franchise (I still haven't completed MGS4 yet). I'm excited to hear about this and I'm very intrigued to see how this'll turn out since it's going to be in an open world environment. Thoughts?
  10. After months of speculation it's been confirmed, KOTOR is being given the MMORPG treatment by role-playing gods Bioware (now owned by EA) with LucasArts support and rechristened simply The Old Republic for this new outing. Star Wars Galaxies and Sony be damned, we're finally getting the SW MMO we've all wanted where a couple of thousand Jedi and Sith running around the galaxy brandishing lightsabers doesn't look retarded if you know the timelines. We've yet to have confirmation of races and classes, but it's definitely going to be a lot, given their activity in the last two games I'd say we might even get playable Mandos in this one. Oh and yes, we're getting the Jedi Academy on Tython people, if you call yourself a Star Wars fan and haven't just cried manly tears of joy over Bioware's love of fans through the use of SW lore then you need to go commit seppuku with your plastic lightsaber right now. 12. It's been a while since I've made a thread (I think... I've been working so hard that I don't even remember). Anyway, it's a pretty straight-forward question, although I'm fairly certain that this was asked once before, but I couldn't find it. You can usually find me playing action games that deals with a lot of hack n slash or beat em up. They're perfect for releasing some of that pinned-up anger. Speaking of which, I should probably get back into the Dynasty Warriors games since that's probably the best for releasing that anger. I think, after I bought Super Street Fighter 4 I've gotten back into the fighting genre as well (Only 2D fighters though). No where as serious as I once was, but I'd at least want to get back on a level where I was considered decent. I don't plan on ever going as far as entering tournaments, but I wouldn't mind going to one just to see what the atmosphere is like. That's about it. I don't know what Assassin's Creed or Metal Gear Solid would be considered as. And while I won't say that I don't play RPG's, it's just that the only RPG I have interest in is the Mass Effect series. Same with shooters, I'm only interested in the Halo series along with Gears of War series. (I do have Crysis 2 here to try out so yeah)

I do have to admit that there are some games on there you'd never see me play. For the most part I don't really have much to say about G4's list. I never took these kinds of things seriously from the getgo. I just find them to be fun, If anything, it tells me that I should really try playing Shadow of the Colossus, Portal, Minecraft and Angry Birds one day. Thoughts?

    Gaming E3 2012

It is that time again (Man, 2012 is halfway done already). I don't know what to say since the event don't start until Monday. Uh, what are you looking forward to seeing? So far Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 are the only games I've seen that's going to be at the event. Not that I did it intentionally, but I haven't been keeping up with the games this year, so now there's no excuse for games to have lack that hype factor for me... At least that's what I'm hoping for. Anyway
  15. There are many games with impressive levels, it's just a matter of how much you think they're worth playing. Personnaly, I think that the mine cart levels from the Super Nintendo Donkey Kong games are good. Rolling around, jumping gaps that pop up out of nowhere, and trying to get all the collectibles. It looked so great T the time, too.

    Gaming Mass Effect

So, with so many of us Mass Effect people on here, I figured I'd make a new thread about it. The main reason was actually that since Shinmaru is playing, and I just found out that ME3 will have a co-op mode that will influence the game story experience, I'm seeing a bright future ahead of us. Also, I'm doing a third perfect run through the game. My current character is a female infiltrator, whereas my last two Shepards were a male Sentinel and Warrior respectively. I'm trying to find the last bits of Mass Effect 1 to finish before ME2, but I find it really hard to choose all the other options. All I know is Kaiden will never be my lover,
and he will always die in all my runthroughs
. Which would make Liara my lover again because for some reason ME thinks that as soon as you speak to Liara, she will have sex with you even if you've talked through all the dialogues perfectly with Ashley. %!I&*$A!@. SO. For those of you who haven't played Mass Effect, here's a quick summary:

I had a lot of fun with Torchlight, but it was too repetitive to play on your own. IN COMES TORCHLIGHT II, AVAILABLE SUMMER 2012, WITH CO-OP/MULTI-PLAYER. For those who do not know the original game, Torchlight is a dungeon crawler RPG in the tradition of Diablo and Titan Quest, except it was more about Dungeon Crawling than the latter. It's also a more comic steam punk style game with pistols, melee and magic alike. It's $20,00 on release, and with a pre-order on steam you get a free copy of the original game to get the hang of it, when you don't already own it. So... Yeah. Seems like a fairly cheap and cool way for funs? Just too bad that it coincides with Guild Wars 2 mostly, which I have become afraid of to look up more videos from because it just looks too awesome to pass up on.

I'm hoping to include some variety, but I will really be focusing on the games I'm interested in myself. It'd be cool to see some new game-specific topics pop up. I was inspired by the Metal Gear Solid: Rising topic - it's already led to a pretty interesting discussion. Anyway, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was unveiled at Nintendo's pre-E3 press conference. The trailer was shown right off the bat, but there was also a physical demonstration involving Shigeru Miyamoto and Bill Trinen. What's notable about this is that the demo was absolutely terrible - not, apparently, because the game itself is terrible, but because they could not overcome the wireless interference in the room. If you actually watch the conference you'll see that there's enormous lag between Miyamoto's actions and Link's on-screen responses. This is pretty unfortunate because if you've ever used a Wii Remote (and if you've ever used a Wii Remote with MotionPlus), you have a strong idea of the real responsiveness of the controller. In any case, Skyward Sword seems to be a pretty radical departure from previous Zeldas, at least in terms of game control. Link moves his sword just as you move your arm - unlike Twilight Princess, where a simple waggle in any direction would suffice. This new mechanic is important because defeating enemies is now no longer simply about hitting them a certain number of times - instead, it is necessary to actually slash at them with the correct angle (and their designs give away the appropriate angle, more or less). What I find interesting, though, is the fact that this new 1:1 sword control mechanic is obviously going to be used quite heavily in puzzle solving. In the video you can see that Link moves his sword around in a circle to confuse a large eye on a door, thereby unlocking it. The new controls are also relevant in terms of item use, which seems to have changed quite significantly this time around. Now all of your items are controlled with gestures rather than button presses. The bomb is a great example - you can throw it over-arm or you can roll it under-arm. You'll also notice that Skyward Sword changes the art style of Zelda again, in the sense that Nintendo have somewhat reverted back to Wind Waker-esque graphics. The key difference, though, is that the Link model is now "adult Link" rather than child Link. Still, it is only really true to say that Skyward Sword's visuals echo those of Wind Waker; it seems to me that this game is much less stylized and significantly more detailed than Wind Waker. The E3 demo was incredibly short and only displayed a single small location in the game. So it's a bit hard to go on this, given that so much more has yet to be revealed. For one thing, we know that Link can now travel back and forth between his new sky world and the underworld below (by using his sword and apparently some sort of gesture). I'm really wondering what the visual contrast will be between these two worlds. For me, though, the biggest question is how much (if at all) the game's basic structure has changed. I don't know about you guys, but I'm a little tired of the typical Zelda dungeon layout. Even a small mix-up to this formula would be most welcome. The video does show at least one dungeon, but beyond that it's anyone's guess really.

    Gaming Video Games With Lyrics

You may or may not have heard of brentalfloss on YouTube before. Basically he takes video game songs and puts his own lyrics over them. It started with a Megaman song and his popularity on YouTube just exploded from then on. Unfortunately he's now so busy with his internet stardom that he rarely does the actual videos anymore (there's about 4-6 months between each one) so I decided I would follow in his footsteps and do something similar. The channel you'll find the video on (which I'll link down below) is "JustUsBrothers" which is a channel my brother and I have created to upload our musical stuff. Aside from the with lyrics videos that I'll be making, there will be covers (mostly drums) of songs (mainstream, video game, and even movie soundtracks) as well as our own original songs. So I finished the first With Lyrics video a few days ago for Shadow of the Colossus. Tell me what you think! Also if you have any ideas as to what video game song I should next, please suggest! I'm thinking of doing a Donkey Kong rap to Jungle Groove next. So without further ado I am proud to present to you Shadow of the Colossus with Lyrics - The Opened Way.
