Official myOtaku Problems Thread

I've decided to make things a little less confusing and create one central thread for dealing with myOtaku problems. This way, individuals seeking answers won't have to create scattered threads asking the same questions we've dealt with before.

A huge thanks goes to Lady Asphyxia for venting her frustration out to me and helping me come up with the idea. She also helped tremendously by scouring this forum and providing me with useful links. You rule!

Unfortunately, I couldn't combine this thread with the older ones because my post wouldn't sit at the top. So, instead, I'll provide useful links at the get go:

New problem in MyOtaku

Something is causing my new Big Fish post to merge with the previous posts of mine, thinking this was because MyOtaku was recognizing it as the same day I posted the previous post, I deleted that one, this is where it gets really weird.

I deleted all my posts in an attempt to fix it up, but the Big Fish post has now merged with the bottom of the page, the title and the comments appear as normal. yet the Big Fish post is outside of it.

What in the hell is going on here?

This is the code I'm using for my table, no different to when it was working fine, except for the image.

If you can't understand what I mean, head over to my MyOtaku. I will keep the post up until I figure out what's wrong.

Nothing more frustrating than losing all your posts in vain.

I had a very big problem with MyOtaku's post submission system and its results deleted one of my posts after Adam fixed it. Though being me I copied each of my posts after I noticed the glitch in case anything happened; but I've come up to the problem of not being able to reinsert it back into it's place and date. I have asked Adam but I assume he is just to busy. Will any recovery tools become available any time soon to do this or even a whole recovery subsystem?

Also I've noticed a lot of myOtaku users are being very sloppy with their html code which I think is a result of having no idea what they are doing; I was interested if any one else would be willing to help make an (un)official HowTo guide for adding features to your MO page without breaking anything plus teaching people about the basics.

It may depend on your webhost. Sometimes, your background won't show up, sometimes it will. They're iffy at times.

Go to Edit Profile and type the appropriate HTML code in your Introduction. The HTML code is as follows:

< body background="your image url here" width= -- height= -- >

It should work if you use that. Make sure to remove the spaces beside the open and close tags.

Umm... you are aware that LazeChibi's already set one up aren't you? Easy enough to find her, goto Member Directory and there she is, under James. The link's on her page. Of course this isn't very well known and I don't know how you could get heaps o people to know about it other than advertising, but its there.

While I'm here could I ask why there seems to be a character limit to profile boxes that ask for basic info. I keep a Shoutbox down in that lefthand bar and everytime I edit something in my profile the javascript has to be reentered, though luckily for me my browser does it for me. I had real head aches with it when I started.

Whenever go to modify my posts, the title part acts all strange. When I do modify, the weirdness does have an affect on my post. What I do to take care of this problem is delete what I can of the title, and then re-enter the title with a second edit.

Again, it's not a big deal, but it is a little annoying. Pic included to clarify my rantings.

I showed this thread to Mars and he said he'll take care of it.

He's just extremely busy, so it might take some time. He's currently editing some really sloppy old code and mixing things around at the fan art site.

I'm not sure how the number of votes affect the ratings, but on the fanart site, there are alot of people with extremely high ratings, but they don't turn up on the highest rated artists list, and most of them only have 1 picture. Is the list for the highest averages, or for the people with the highest number of "yes" votes?

I put a table in there and ended up with a huge gap in the middle of my post....

I've been over the code (that is, of the table. Not of the myotaku page :p) in dreamweaver and it seems perfectly fine, it just creates a huge gap in myotaku.

Ah, I see what's going on here Dan.

Basically, our posting system is setup to translate line breaks as
tags - this is to make things more visual for users. Thus, when you format HTML code with lots of spaces, it has the side-effect of adding a
tag for each space. Thus, your table code has like a zillion
tags, which created that great gap.

Wow, I really like the style editor on myOtaku. It really saves me the trouble. But one little bug: the background won't work on the style editor. At first, I thought it wasn't working because I already had a code in my posts for a background image. I had put the background code in every post so the background would show up on every page, even when you clicked to see comments. You see, I also wanted the background to also show up on my guesbook page, and I was getting sick of cramming my posts with codes. But now I wanted to try the style editor for my background instead and it's not working. I even tried making a fresh new account (just a temporary one to test on) with no posts and trying the background thing on that but it still didn't work.

How did you guyz make it so that the music stuff on myotaku to not work because this is really pissing me off. I don't know wether it is a Window's error cause inside my computer itself or because of media cancellation.

Ever since it was put up, everytime I visit a page with embed or some kind of video or music media on it, the window just closes.

For instance I went to Launch.com to watch a video. As soon as it pops up it closes.

I dont' know if myOtaku caused this or something else did, but I assume its because of myOtaku because of chain of events that has been happening. 1) visit myOtaku 2) read anouncemnt about music 3) never saw another video or hear music through a web page ever since.

Considering the fact that many people were embedding large sound files and forcing them to play without asking the user, I'd say it was a good step. If anything, I'd blame the people that abused it.

The official music part on myOtaku works just fine and that all I've ever bothered with.

this should go into the Suggestions and Feedback forum, in the Myotaku Problems thread. Here is the link. MyOtaku Problems Thread
Just so you know that next time.

To answer your question, All you have to do is this. In your backroom, you'll find a menu towards the left side of the page. Under Profiles/Options, there is a link that says edit content. Click on edit content. Then once the page loads, scroll all the way down until you see the Upload picture option.

There you go. Hope this helped.
