How did you come up with your OtakuBoards username?Does it mean something in another language?

I took mine from a character in one of my fanfics. (Sorry I don't publish them.)Her name is Kuroinu and she is a dogdemon who can change into a giant black dog(like Sesshomaru). My name according to some members here means "black dog demon(monster)".

Which username? I've had a whole bunch, all of which are way more interesting than ThoraxtheImpaler.... this one, though, comes from an episode of X-Play in which they had created a video of two guys playing Splinter Cell Chaos Theory in Co-op mode (bob and steve) and bob begins calling himself "Thor-axe the Impaler" and thinks hes a Norseman. I thought "hey kewl Norse is 73- 5-!2/\/!7" and took the name.

I chose my user name based on events that happened when I was a high school student and later after some experiences I had with other online anime forums.

When I was in High School I made the mistake of bringing some Sailor Moon manga to class. One of my teachers saw it and assumed it was porn without bothering to read it and took me to the principal?s office where I got a huge lecture and then they took me outside and literally burned my books on the spot.

My parents tried to complain to the authorities but the principal and teacher both lied and claimed they gave me the books back and that if anyone had burned them I must have done it myself. Needless to say the authorities believed the adults and not some out of state High School kid (since we had just moved to the state) who wasn?t a member of the dominant religion in the area.

I also joined some online anime forums run by the dominant religion where I lived thinking it would be a good way to get to know the people of the area. It turned out to be nothing more than a way for the parents to strictly regulate and control what their children were watching in regards to anime.

Since I am a fan of yaoi and yuri series the moment I mentioned a few I was immediately flamed by other members, It reached the point where I finally closed my account and looked around for another forum to join as I was tired of getting close to 100 + messages a month. I lost count of the religious subscriptions I was anonymously signed up to by other members of the forum. Needless to say I was not interested in the nonsense being sent my way.

Those two events led me to change my user name to indifference as I decided that if others do not like my love of anime then as I my name says I am indifferent to their opinion in that respect as I have no intention of changing to fit their narrow views of what they think is acceptable.

Ironically I like the new user name better than my previous one.

My user name came about because it is my hubby's nickname for me. I love Giant Pandas so I went with Panda as my name. I was really suprised that no one had already claimed it when I joined up. Lucky me!

As for my name meaning something in another language it does mean a pun in Japanese. I mentioned this in another thread earlier. "Pan da" in Japanese means "It's Bread". I've seen this joke used in .hack//Legend of the Twilight and in Ranma 1/2.

Before I began learning Japanese in earnest, I thought the fairly common anime/manga/video game name "Ryu" was pronounced "Rye-ooh". When I started writing webcomics I decided to call one of my characters that, but spelt it differently so I 'stood out from the crowd' a little more. And with the different spelling it can only be pronounced the way I always did, which is sort of the 'wrong' way ... see?

(Ryu is pronounced Ree-ooh, if you were wondering.)

So when I set up a forum for the webcomic, I did what a lot of webcomic authors do and used one of my characters' names as my sign-in name. And then I started using it everywhere else as well. Google 'Raiyuu' and most of the stuff you get is me (bar the yaoi elf fanfic, I swear I had nothing to do with it). It's much more of a 'keeper' than Blackjack, which was my name way back when.

My old username was Ilium. At the time, I was heavily into Homer's epic, the Illiad. Commonly known as Troy, the correct name for the city in which the Epic centers is in fact Ilium. I liked it and make it my username.

Recently, with the start of the hockey season, my interests have been overrun with hockey-related things. My favourite all-time player is Guy 'Le Demon Blonde' Lafleur. I also liked the majesty and mystery that surrounds the name. It translates simply into The Flower. Lecavalier is another name I toyed with, it basically means The Cavalry.

Interesting, most interesting.

Well I've had seven different usernames on three accounts over four years, so I might as well give a run through them all rather than just simply answer that my current username is my actual Christian name and end the mystique. On to the listing of previous usernames and their respective explanations then, I'll go in chronological order from earliest to latest.

1] Majin Gogeta: I?m not a hundred percent sure whether or not there was a space between the Majin and the Gogeta but that was definitely my first OB username from either late September or early October 2001. The background to the name is fairly simple, I was a Dragonball Z addict at the time and had been reading up on season ahead of the Frieza Saga, the character Gogeta as well as the Majin process seemed interesting so I combined them to get the username.

2] Shadowed Demise: The second username and second user account was created a month or so after the first one after I got tired of the Dragonball Z styled handle, this was back before username changes were available. Where the name came from, honestly I have no idea or at least four years on can?t recall, it didn?t really matter anyway because the name itself would be retired like it?s predecessor a month later.

3] Red XIII: My third username and the username on the account which I?ve managed to keep for nigh on four years, I started the account and took the name on the 12th of December 2001. The explanation of the name is simple for anyone who has played Final Fantasy VII, and for anyone who hasn?t then I?d seriously advise you to because it?s a great game. I took Red XIII as opposed to say Barrett because Red XIII was the character I identified with the most in the game.

4] Outcast: I honestly don?t recall when I changed from Red XIII to Outcast, it was either in the first or second lot of username changes that were advertised, as to where the name came from, like Red XIII it came from a videogame, in this case Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. The outcast in this case is Kyle Katarn who is my favourite NJO Jedi, and I don?t think there?s really anything more to it than that.

5] Lynx: I chose this name in 2003 to replace Outcast which I?d been getting a bit tired of, this new username was taken from the deodorant and honestly until I actually submitted it as the new name I wasn?t even fully sure it was the one I wanted. There?s actually not a whole lot more to be said about this one, so I?ll move on to the second last one.

6] Kane: I had a conversation with my wife Raiha about where I got this username not so long ago and while one source had more influence than the others, there were in fact several. The first and greatest influence came from the Command & Conquer series, more specifically Tiberium Sun, the main villain in the game is called Kane and while he was undoubtedly mad, he had an eerie charm about him. The second source which I actually denied to my wife but is true enough is that it came from the wrestler in the WWF, bearing in mind that I was much younger when I followed wrestling and mainly took the name from the Tiberium Sun game. The same source for the name came from my primary school principal who had Kane as his last name.

7] Gavin: There?s really not a whole lot to this name, back in 2004 a good few of my friends started to take their first names as their usernames and as I was sick of being referred to as Kane as opposed to my actual name I decided to change it to Gavin and end the annoyance once and for all, plus after three years I was an Oldie and felt it was appropriate I have my Christian name as my username. After taking the name which is also Dragon Warrior?s first name one particular member tried to influence me into changing my name again and leaving Gavin as a possible choice for DW. My response was quick and irritated, I?m older than Gavin so Gavin was my name first, so if I want to use it, I?ll use it. Having had six previous usernames I?m happy to just stick with this one until I leave.

My user name is based off of a Star Trek book I read a long time ago. The character is someone whose songs later save an entire race from dying. I loved the name so I made it my e-mail address a while back. Then when I started doing more stuff online I started using the name when I signed up for various things.

I prefer to use just Sunfall but if it?s taken then I use other combinations of the character?s name, like the SunfallE as the E is the first letter of the character?s last name. So far I?ve always been able to get some form of the character's name as my user name.

I?d use my nickname Beth or Bethany, but usually it?s already taken.

My other names (well... the important ones anyway)

1. Tical = The main charachter of a video game I wanted to make when I was 8 years old. I've used it for everything till it got banned (oops)

2. Kyo no Ryu = I THOUGHT that it meant "Kyo the Dragon" and used it for a while then I logged out once and couldn't remember the password. (it turned out to mean "Kyo's dragon")

3. That One Odd Dude = What I always thought people to remember me as...

My username came from the song
- Ice Queen by Within Temptation. It kind of reminds me of the past and how I shut from the world a long time ago, my aunt always said I was a sweet as a Rose but always made sarcastic comments therefore meaning the thorns in a rose. So the Rose froze and the Ice overwhelmed it making it a statue of what it once was.

I had other names before like Namiko which is my fifth name it mean daughter of waves like the ocean not sound waves. Momiji is my theotaku username because is my fourth name it means maple leaf, I guess my mom was trying to make a point with all the nice things. I've been Doctor Namiko because back then I liked medicine. Also Demonofthehair because I liked the character Yura from Inuyasha

My name has its origins not from Yu-Gi-Oh, as one might think, but from Eldar Scrolls III: Morrowind. (An Awesome RPG) The one who called himself Umbra was a world weary warrior carrying the sword Umbra. This context was exactly what I wanted. "Umbra" is a brain child I have had for nearly two years. (Two on Christmas) There were a bunch of other names, but none of them fit him right. (Great. Now you all think I am developing a split personality). If you did not know, Umbra is a shadow, usually a celestial one. For instance, in a solar eclipse, when the moon passes over the sun and it gets dark, you could say your standing in the moon's umbra. As for the II, well, I put in a very long password with Capitals and lower cases sprinkled in, and could not log in agian, so its II.

I always use the name 'celestialcharm' or 'DigiChar.' I decided to use 'celestialcharm' for OB though. I got the name from the dictionary. I like the letter 'C' because my name is 'Charlene' that starts with a 'C' so I went to the C section :haha: of the dictionary. I liked the word 'celestial', which means in or of the sky;heavenly;divine. I wanted another word attached to it so I picked the word 'charm,' which means fascination, an object bringing luck or a trinket on a bracelet.

So together it means:

1. Heavenly/divine fasination

2. Heavenly/divine object bringing luck

3. Heavenly/divine trinket on a bracelet (The bracelet could symbolise earth)

Yup, I considered myself all of these back in grade 9. I used to be very narcisstic, and kind of vain but I still love this name, and it just stuck on. :animeswea

Was Japan_86, and then Japan. I was childish and immature then. I also got sick of people sending me random IM's and PM's asking if I was Japanese...so it is Ryli.

I do not know what it means but I got if off of Achaea

I chose it cause I don't want six thousand people to know my real name and it isn't related to Japan at all.

Well, I myself have gone through 3 nicknames. Two happen to be after a character that I was compared to by my friends.

Jung-Woo - My first nickname upon my arrival to the OB. There was a period in time during my freshman and sophmore year where I didn't speak very often. And so one of my friends, who was reading a Korean Manwha at the time (Kill Me, Kiss Me) began calling me that. She explained that I was a lot like him at the time.

Touma (Tohma) Seguchi - After the Jung-Woo period, I became my regular self. Except for the fact that I had a lot going on at school and with my new job, I began to subconsciously act in a businesslike manner. That same friend started calling me Tohma. If something went wrong, I immediately tried to fix it. (Much like our endeared shachou. XD) When she started calling me that, every one of my friends followed suit.

Sinistra - Ah...my username now. Sinistra is Latin for left-handed, which is what I happen to be. Left-handed people were once regarded to as the Devil's children. (Or something like that.) Because we weren't like everyone else. Sinistra is also the name of one character from my original fiction story called Blindsided.

So, that about covers it. Until a new name change...

Endymion - I was a fan of both Sailor Moon and Greek mythology, so I choce the name Endymion. In Sailor Moon, Endymion was Mamoru/Darien/Tuxedo Mask's name in a past life. In Greek mythology, Endymion was a man who slept forever.

Manic - What most people know me as. I actually got this name from the cartoon Sonic Underground, where Sonic the Hedgehog had a brother and sister named Manic and Sonia. Manic was a green hedgehog with fast hands who played the drums. He was also a pick-pocket.

Manic Webb - Because Webb is my real last name.

Death Knights are [strike]depressed[/strike] [strike]stoic[/strike] [strike]emo[/strike] slightly unhappy undead ex-paladins/fallen warriors/librarians/whatever who kill people for looking at them wrong/giving them the wrong fast food order/other mundane things. They have a sarcastic tongue, a small amount of wit and intense, unyielding bloodlust that is only quenched by frequent and excessive violence. Usually they have some kind of a kickass sword with a name like "Reaver's Hand", "Grimlord" or "Deadly Flatulence". Often found in ominous castles, manors and suburban homes.

They are dangerous creatures that you should avoid at all costs [for reals!]

*Ahem*

My name actually started before I really got online, like 3-4 years ago. I was trying to make up my own character and needed a name, so at the time I was really in to a game called Bushido Blade, and it had a character named "Tatsumi" so I used the "Su" part and the level I was in at the time was a moat, so I added "Bay" so it would sound japanese.

So for a good while I wanted to be called "Subay" and to make it sound really cool, I added and "Zero" at the end and made a logo with to serpents intangled as the "S" and "Z." Eventually, my older brother called me a retard, and told me that it would be "Subei," not the other one, so I corrected that. Then on the internet, I learned that "Tatsu" meant "Dragon" in japanese, and add "Tat" to my name.

Soon after, I played Final Fantasy Tactics, and found a shuriken called the "Yagyu Darkness" and loved the name so much, I made it Tatsu's last name, and him kinda have a Dark element, along with Lightning or Wind.

Like a year later, I watched Rurouni Kenshin, and loved that he was a wanderer. So I gave Tatsubei Yagyu the nickname, "Rurouni Tatsu, the Wandering Dragon."

I was surprised later to find a actual person who had the name, "Jubei Yagyu." Look him up some time if you like samurai... ;)

For a short and sweet description I had only two names ATM but it might (don't get your hopes up) might change.

The first one was SSJBrolli I think.... why? Because Burori in DBZ is a man who I can relate to in insanity. Sometimes I feel like going insane like him and kill every single carrot I see in my path along with the planets in my way.

then I upgraded to what my name is now. But again it MIGHT change.

My name is a reference to Princess Garnet, one of the main characters of Final Fantasy IX (hence the fact that it used to be "Dagger IX1"). It's not that I particularly identify with her or anything, but I did enjoy FFIX very much. And it amused me to discover that not only do I look vaguely like her (same hair, etc.), but we also share the same real name. I'm not talking about "Garnet," obviously... at the Eidolon Wall, if you go through some kind of complicated procedure, it's revealed that she was originally called
Sarah.
I use Dagger or something related to it at a lot of difference places (and in lieu of that, I usually have an "IX" tacked onto the end of my name). I guess it's a way to use my real name without actually using my real name, if that makes any sense. I like it, anyway. :p

~Dagger~
