RPGs You Know Will Fail
Anyway, Crusaders of the Card Table sounds absolutely dreamy. I was a huge DnD nerd in high school, so this is right up my alley. I have some concerns about the 'Five Minutes to a Post' rule, but it may actually benefit the players since they are kind of forced focus on dialogue as opposed to action. This gives you, the Game Master, a lot of room to control the story since there is only so much damage your players could do in five minutes, so to speak.

I have a lot of relatively small questions about the gane, but it's definitely something I'd be interested in doing.

-Shy
I was actually hoping that you, specifically, would be interested in it. You have a habit of having successful RPGs.

As for the time constraints on the posts, it wouldn't necessarily have to be five minutes. I was just using that as an example. However, I think there should be a limit on the length of "game time" within posts (at least in the Real World thread - time flows differently inside a game than it does outside of it). Like you said, it would force the players to write more focused posts.

I'll come up with a round's worth of example posts, seeing as how even I get confused when I read over my explanation of how posting will work. I'd also love to hear (read) your questions, Shy, no matter how trivial.

I know you're busy with other projects, but I'd thoroughly enjoy undertaking this RPG with you in the future.

The Underground thread might be of some interest to you, since he went to the trouble of creating class schedules for each of the players. Ultimately that system may have hurt the RPG more than anything else, but it was a noble experiment and hopefully you can learn from some of their mistakes.

I'd be very interested in seeing some 'mock posts,' for Crusaders of the Card Table, even if they are really short. I'm sure the dual posting system would be a little more clear to me if I saw some specific examples of how it would affect the game.

You see, I've had a couple ideas... not exactly sure how to get them to work, or if they would work right. Glad I saw this thread.

My first idea really is just an idea. No title or plot has been thought of yet, just a kind of genre I guess. It's a very vague spin off of Star Wars, with the idea of the "Force". Except, this "force", is brought out when someone drinks one of two flavors of soda. Orange soda, the light side of the "force", and Grape soda, the dark side.

There comes a point in time when every kid has to choose between the two. Most people would have a problem here, as I have yet to see someone say they didn't like one of the two. Once the kid chooses which one they want to drink for the rest of their life, they can't drink the other... without suffering some major consequence.

Also, as with choosing sides, their are multiple factions, or gangs as they would be called in the rp, in each side of the "force". Some gangs may even disagree with their own side of the "force". For instance, one Grape side gang, may want to use the grape powers to conquer the world, while a different grape side gang would want to use them to destroy the world. Maybe an orange side gang would want to use their powers to help the weak and protect the poor, while a different one would use their powers to obtain places of authority. (I never said the light side was a goody-two-shoes type.)

Just thought I'd through that idea out for now. I'll post the other up later.

Speaking of broad ideas...
RPG TItle: Son of Tetris [PG-V]

Genre: Action/Video Games

Basic Summary: In the future, the world's most beloved video game heroes have retired, passing on their legacy of platforming and adventure to their children. Unfortunately, not all of them are willing to to follow in their parents' footsteps and have instead decided to use their powers and abilities for evil.

Donkey Kong Jr. has been murdered, and a team of specialists has been assembled to solve the case. This investigation will take them through a variety of gaming worlds. This would be similar to Project Gamer, but play out more like a noir murder mystery. Many of the characters would be created by the players, but pre-existing "Next-Gen" characters like Pac-Man Jr. might have prominent roles.

At this point, I think I've lost my credibility as an RP host, so I'm not sure anything I do would be accepted :animesigh however I do have concepts that I don't think would make it

HiME Spin is one I thought about doing if SD was going well (cough) thing is, it's obviously a spin-off on the anime My-HiME. However, if the Anime Lounge thread is any indication NO ONE ON OB HAS WATCHED MY-HIME!!! Well, this wouldn't be totally relevant to the rp after all - see HiME are those who have special powers and can summon rathr awesome mythological beast familiars, but with a catch. If their familiar dies, so does the person who's most important to them. The rp takes place in a school and there's conspiracies and all, but realy, I'm not sure anyone who hasn't seen the show would be interested, since it all sounds pretty drab on paper.
Actually I have seen the anime and am a pretty big fan. I'm just not one who ventures to far outside the Theater to comment in such threads -_-
I would be very interested if you were able to put up an RPG in the HiME style, I'm sure your old buddy Premotion would join as well.

I would not let him in anymore. not in this case, especially. Anyway, I'm glad you like the idea. Right now, I'm relly not qualified to run an RP, seeing as how I've blown off the past 2 I created and (probably) generally pissed off/lost the trust of all the participants :animesigh however, if you want to do an rp between just the two of us (after all, we're probably the only Mai-HiME fans and having it purely made up of fnas of the show might keep it more true to the style) I could probably go about creating it (since I wouldn't need to do as much explaining about the background information and all). If you had truly blown them off you would have ignored all requests for information and ignored the players. :p The only reason I wouldn't join an rpg you did right now is I'm already too committed with other ones at the moment. That and I intend to spend as much of my spare time as possible with my girlfriend over the Christmas holidays. Heh. Otherwise, even though I know nothing about that show, the concept is interesting and does sound like it would be fun.

Well... The idea was meant to be as a comedy type rp. With stuff like hyper-dimensional hammers and such, much like a comedy anime show.

Oh the stories I could tell about dropping RPGs. And then the one instance that really pissed me off but, its cool....just as long as I don't go back to the site. Having a two person RP would be fairly interesting, it would follow the show more, and if someone wanted in because they were a fan and had seen the show, which would be up to you, it could be worked out pretty well. RPG Title: 101 [PG-V]

Genre: Horror/Sci-Fi

Setting: A sleepy midwestern college town.

Basic Summary: Sara, an aspiring writer, enrolls in her community college's weekly 'creative writing' class. She soon finds herself jaded when she discovers that her fellow students only like to write tacky sci-fi stories and vampire fiction. As Sara considers dropping the class she stumbles across a crime scene eerily reminiscent of one of her peer's stories. It is then that she realizes her fellow students aren't just writing tacky sci-fi stories and vampire fiction, they're living it.

Players would assume the role of Sara, her friends, and the eclectic students who fill her creative writing class. Excerpts from creative writing 'assignments' would be included in some posts, and often juxtaposed with action or comedy. The RPG would be a balance of action, soap opera, and cliche, all as the momentum builds towards an exciting confrontation during finals.

Title: The OB Sitcom (working title)
Genre: Comedy
Setting: Apartment block/bar/anywhere you want, really
Summary: Members play themselves in a sitcom-type setting - ideally a group of five or six of mixed gender for the main cast with some occasional "recurring" characters. Follows the main characters as they muddle their way through life, work, love and rejection, with hilarious consequences.

Possibility of working towards an ultimate final goal, but mostly just about the fun they have along the way. Fairly tongue-in-cheek, almost definitely cheesy as hell. Would require good comedy writers, capable of writing at least fairly intelligent humour, not simply "and then he ran into a wall lol".

Ultimately a lot of the plot detail would be up to the main cast - setting, for example. There could be a couple of different "sets," for example the apartment shared by two or more characters and the bar across the street where the gang are regulars. Overall plot (or "season") would be divded into several "episodes" in which there would be several different plot lines intertwining, each featuring a different character.

Would be very much character rather than plot-driven, and characters would become more and more fleshed out over the "season."

Font Wars does indeed sound great. Somehow it would suit OB very well, methinks.

After doing a lot of reading, I now want to make an RPG based on Watchmen. I actually have a few concrete ideas about it too. I suppose it would be what Kill Adam is to Kill Bill.

I have to try not to get ahead of myself though, because at the moment I'm participating in way too many RPGs as it is. Haha
