I know a bunch who preferred FFX-2 over FFX, so nyeigh.
I'm one of those people, but that's probably largely due to the fact that it was my first FF and I hate Tidus.
*dodges trash and banana peels*
Anyway, I, uh. Wow. From what I played, this does not really warrant a sequel. Maybe it was because I didn't get to the alleged 20-hour point where it's supposed to get a lot better, but I couldn't wade through those 20 hours to begin with [not to mention the story had me hopelessly lost]. Which is a shame, I liked the characters and all that, but...yeah.
Knowing me, though, I'll probably be crazy enough to give it a shot. So who knows. -
Because I'm a spazzy fangirl. It's what spazzes do.
Can't speak for Ace, though, but this is normal behavior for whenever we're together, so. -

As much as I hate myself for it, I've been catching up a bit on Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. The good thing about this series is that, since it works like a western cartoon, you can skip some minisodes and not really miss a whole lot. It's especially good for this series since some episodes, quite frankly, are a bit much for me.
But I have such an odd relationship with this show; normally I despise shows that rely on such blatant grossout humor [90s cartoons notwithstanding], and I've complained in the past that PASWG just tries WAY too dang hard in that regard. And, quite frankly, it does. But there are also some episodes that are just plain good. The Diet Syndrome was one of the first episodes I really enjoyed. Les Diaboliques, the one full-length episode, was...okay. But I couldn't sit through it. Not cause it was particularly randy, it was just kinda...eh. Though that may be because I'm honestly not a big Scanty and Kneesocks fan. Their designs are nice, but as characters, they just kinda bore me [and yes, I realize I'm in the minority on that]. I also really enjoyed Vomiting Point, mainly because of how friggin' different it was [and really bittersweet, too]. It also reminded me quite a bit of the late Satoshi Kon's work a bit, or at least what I've seen of it.
My favorite episode so far, though, is Ghost: The Phantom of Daten City. Stocking falls in love, and it's one of the times that it's shown how Panty truly does care for her sister. And the end!
Garter saying how the ghost she fell in love with was made of all the regrets of men, and how it couldn't pass until he truly fell in love...and he did. AUUUUUGH MAN GAINAX. ;____________;
Oh, one thing that's consistently good about this series is its soundtrack. It's got some kickin' tunes. ...except of course half the songs' titles sound like they got yanked out of a porno. [Funnily enough, my two favorite songs have fairly normal, non-dirty titles -- Fallen Angel and Chocolat]. Also Stocking is adorable and it makes me wish the whole series was just about her.
But yeah. I may continue watching...I might not. We'll see.
tl;dr No. Go read it. :| -

Getting in as much gaming as I can before I go back to school.
Cave Story -- Beat this the other day. Got the bad ending [booooo] but am going to play it again for the better endings [yaaay!]. Seriously though, this game is friggin' fantastic and addicting as heck. If you're a fan of Metroidvania-type games, you'll feel right at home. Heck, I'm not one for shooters [though I do love me some platformers], and I still thoroughly enjoyed the heck out of this game. So fun. Great story too.
BlazBlue CS -- Got through everyone's true endings, just have Hazama's now. Trolling with him should be fun. |D
Other games on my queue for the next couple of days: Sonic Colors, Super Street Fighter IV, Final Fantasy IV, Pokemon SoulSilver, and Mario Party 2 [mainly just to blow off steam on the minigames]. -
OKAY now that it seems to be fixed...REPOST!
Why am I being mentioned twice already? |:
I'm still amused that Kei sounds like a chipmunk. But at least Ace only briefly sounds like he came straight out of hell this time! ...you're not allowed to choose your own music anymore, though, darlin'. I'm glad I wasn't wearing headphones. >__>
F-BOMB F-BOMB F-BOMB F-BOMB
No Korey we all secretly hate the podcast. [s]And I like how you recycled two of the questions from last week that no one actually got to hear cause of technical difficulties[/s] And you forgot a censor there. Gosh if you're going to bleep people then you need to at least do it consistently! B| [s]Make that three questions.[/s]
Well um. This was certainly an interesting podcast. The good news is that I'm already thinking of questions for next week! Dohohohohoho.
Also, there's few minute lull of BGM at the end. ...And then a song. ..........................Boo. I'm going to kill you. Repeatedly. -

Y'know, I'm pretty excited for this, myself. I couldn't stand Will and kinda harbored hatred for Elizabeth for a long time [though I eventually got over that], so them being gone is no skin off my nose. And CaNz, I liked the second and third movies plenty as well, although that may be because I wound up seeing the second one first.
I also seemed to notice from the trailer and images that Jack's hair is slightly lighter. Aging, perhaps? It would be a subtle nod to the whole fountain of youth deal, I think.
But either way, seeing Johnny Depp gallivanting around as Captain Jack Sparrow is enough for me. Yesyes. /shallow -
My question is "why?" though. Â
Two words: it's free.
I'm sure you know that, and I'm sure all of us posting know that, and no, it doesn't justify it at all. But sometimes, there's no ulterior motive, no sinister plot to bring down the R1 industry, no trollin', no nothin'. Some people might not be able to afford it, but a lot of times, people are just that cheap.
Granted, some could say the same for those that choose to legally stream anime. But again, if it's legal, the companies are getting revenue, making the point moot. -
1. words like Nakama don't have good translation in english. Literally translated it means friend (which is what One Piece uses in Dubbing) The word extends to companion, shipmate, partner etc. The subbing site I watch explained this before one of the episodes and that they weren't going to translate Nakama cause it didn't have a good translation.
Aha, but fansubs aren't exempt from this either. One of the most popular fansubs for Lucky Star translated the term "tsundere" [basically meaning someone harsh on the outside, sweet on the inside, or vice-versa] into "bipolar". While one can argue that's basically what it is, it's kind of...a strange liberty to take, in my opinion.
And then let's not forget the infamous "keikakku means plan" bit from a Death Note sub.
2 vulger and curse words. In dubbing they intend most anime to be for kids. They exclude and rewrite things so they can be marketed to US childern. I remember watching DBZ uncut when I was in High school and my jaw dropped how much they cursed and the gore that when along with that series. Sexual situtions also fall into this catagory.
"In dubbing they intend most anime to be for kids"? Um, what? Like Shin said, back in...2000, that'd be applicable, but in 2011? Uhh, no, unless all the anime you see on TV is stuff dubbed by 4kids.
Anyway, I think you're getting it confused with stuff that would have to be censored on a usual US broadcast, whether it was for kids or not. That's usually handled by the channel themselves, and not the licensor. There's just some stuff you can't show on cable TV. Granted, the intensity of these edits depends on what time of day it airs [and yes, the target demographic to a certain extent, but that also applies to the time of day it airs], but some stuff just has to be cut. Not even Adult Swim is exempt from this; I remember Kim Manning seeming to say once that she was very interested in obtaining Elfen Lied, a show notorious for its gore and nudity, but an FCC rep said it would have to be censored so much, it'd barely be recognizable.
Also, it should be noted that Japanese broadcasts themselves are actually very strict on what can and cannot be shown on TV as well, believe it or not, and they're trying to crack down on it with this Tokyo youth ordinance bill or whatever it's called. As much as people want to think that skull splitting gore or full frontal nudity goes completely uncensored on Japanese television, it doesn't. Not on basic cable, anyway. [Or however it works there.]
So yeah, editing for broadcast =/= censoring for it to be marketable to children. -
I'm going to take a shot in the dark and guess Medabots [anyone remember that?]. I'm prolly way off though.

What is it?
OtakuBoards versionnnnn uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I forget which one this is.
Why is it nifty?
Well, not only is it our home, but the amount of tears and turmoil that went into updating the site into what we have now must have been a lot. The new layout took some getting used to, but I honestly am starting to prefer it to the older version now. Here's to many more updates and versions to come!
What is it?
The Otakuboards Podcast!
Why is it nifty?
Because it's 50-60 minutes of hearing fellow members talk about stuff, and being pretty darn funny while doing so. It's great to see everyone come together for it, and hearing what everyone sounds like is pretty great, too. It's a good, quality podcast, especially since it's maintained by only two guys in their spare time, and it's pulled off awesomely. Here's to a year of it!
What is it?
The Padded Room Party!
Why is it nifty?
Some people accuse it of sapping activity from OB, but meh. It's a fun, fluffy thread where we can all just flail around and hang out. Granted, it's kind of softened since its inception last year, but it's still plenty of fun.
What is it?
A Densha Otoko Type Forum!
Why is it nifty?
Because some random guy tried to emulate some random Japanese manga/drama, and while the advice given was sound, gosh darnit it was still pretty entertaining.
What is it?
theOtaku.com's Chat!
Why is it nifty?
In its almost three years since its inception, it's let me get to know old friends better, and gain some amazing friends that I probably never would have met otherwise. Even though the drama and the n00bs make me want to bash my head into a wall sometimes, it's truly a great, secure hangout when the right people get together. It breaks the depraved chatroom stereotype thanks to a robust moderation system, and for that, I feel it deserves a spot.
What is it?
Status updates!
Why is it nifty?
Because it's one more step into conglomerating with the social networking giants of the world! MWAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAahahahahanyway.
Who is it?
Beth/SunfallE/Lucia!
Why are they nifty?
She's the main figurehead for theO's Chat, and she has to put up with so much crap from whiny kids and teenagers. She works so hard, and she deserves praise for her effort, work, and patience with everyone. I don't envy your job one bit, Beth. Keep on truckin'.
Who is it?
chibi-master!
Why are they nifty?
Her hyperness may wear me out sometimes, she definitely brings a fun, lively spirit to OB, something all forums can always stand to have. She dutifully posts a list of holidays each month, is a very good artist [and has drawn things for me whee!], and after hearing her podcast segments, I firmly believe she could get a foothold in the voice acting industry. It'd be weird to imagine this place without her.
Who is it?
[s]Tacochan[/s] Shinmaru!
Why are they nifty?
Hey man, you help keep the silly little section I moderate alive, too! Shin's always fun to be around, and makes me snerk on multiple occasions. His posts are always verbose and interesting to read, and anyone who puts up with us yelling TACOCHAN without threatening to kill or sue us has got to be on this list somewhere.
Who are they?
A twofer this time, the dynamic duo of Korey/AvalonAngel and Boo!
Why are they nifty?
For bringing us the magical wonder and whimsy of The Otakuboards Podcast! They make a great team, and recording with them was a lot of fun. [s]It was so fun, we did it twice![/s] Boo's an editing whiz and Korey's our host with the most, and it just wouldn't be the same without them. Sadly, though, their placement on this list does NOT excuse Boo from the ear treason known as "Still In Love", so I'm still going to have to keel you for that. Sorry.
Who is it?
Katana!
Why are they nifty?
I'm hoping throwing her up here will encourage her to post more. *smacked*
Who is it?
Ace/The Professor!
Why are they nifty?
Aceburner's a pretty cool guy. eh reads bad fanfiction and doesnt afraid of anything. No but seriously, Ace is a silly guy that makes me laugh and gigglesnort more than should be allowed daily. He brings a degree of wit and charisma to OB that I've really yet to see replicated anywhere else. Overall, he's just a pretty awesome guy that I'm very happy to know.
...holy snot this turned out to be a LOOOOT longer than I expected. Um. Oopsie? -
FF for me as well, and maybe it's the same for me even though I'm in the US? My connection can be dopey sometimes, but I don't get this problem anywhere else, so.
late edit: when I posted this just now [or then, rather], it was fairly quick, so...yay? -
Well, as cliche as this is going to sound, maybe just try to be only friends for right now? She's already seeing someone else anyway, plus, you only just met her. Take some time to know each other more as platonic friends, and see where it goes from there? But if she insists on something else, then...yeah, it might be best to abandon ship, especially if she's already showing you, erm, less than classy photos of herself.
-
So, on and off for the past...maybe couple weeks, now, I wanna say, OB really enjoys hanging whenever I post. It usually finally autorefreshes or whatever and takes me to the thread I was posting in, but the hang is still rather pesky. It lasts anywhere from 10 seconds to almost an entire minute. Same with PMs, too. I seem to remember this happening when this version of OB was first implemented, so is it just related to that, or something else?
-
If you were to continue to pursue her, you would need to be prepared for a LOT of heartache and heartbreak. While it's sweet of you to want to be the person to treat her right, if she can't kick these other problems, then she's just going to destroy herself, and anyone else she takes with her.
Trust me, I know [though admittedly, not from a romantic standpoint, but from a platonic/friendship standpoint]. Granted, most of them got better, but holy cow it's not something you want to take on if you're not prepared. -
Wow, uhm. She sounds...special.
I've pretty much given up on having a semi-decent sleep schedule, which is gonna SUUUUUCK once I start back with school. I mean, I get a decent amount of sleep, usually...just...not when people normally sleep. >__>; -
My point is I enjoy watching fansubs and also believe they give a better translation then dubbing.
I just wanted to point out that this is rather untrue. Now I'm not saying that English distributors don't mess up or adhere strictly to the Japanese script, because they certainly do flub up and certainly do take liberties from time to time [usually, though, it's for the sake of making the script flow better, sounding less stiff and awkward, etc], but companies also have professional translators on their staff. For subs, while I'm sure a good chunk of them are at least fluent in the Japanese language, are also subject to numerous mistranslations. There's one rather infamous case of the first Ghost in the Shell TV series having translated a line about child abductions into mass naked child events [link is SFW, don't worry]...and let's not even get started on all the troll subs out there.
Again, I'm not saying official English releases are exempt from this, nor am I saying all subtitlers are a bunch of blind idiots, because I know people that sub anime [HI DES!!!]. But neither side is perfect. -
Uhh, sure.. I think. Kidding aside, yeah it was a compliment. I pictured you with a high pitched voice (All Inuyasha fans have that type of voice in my head. Male or female, so fellas beware. If you're a fan of Inuyasha I'm gonna automatically place a "squeaky" voice on you).
*SNORT* That's kinda funny, since I've not been an Inuyasha fan for years. XD Yeah, I know the name betrays that, but it's a moniker I can't really let go of, so. -
Sangome, your voice is not what I pictured it to be.
Is that a compliment? I'm gonna take it as one, cause I'm ultra super mega self-conscious about my voice. D:
Actually, I don't sound as deep as I thought I would. It's either my mic, the recording, ooooor the fact I was overly excited and nervous. Probably that last one.
ANYWAY~
...Backstreet Boys intro. Remind me to kill you [s]again[/s] later, Boo.
Katana's probably going to hurt me now. Umm. ilu?
lolwut @ your segment Chibi. I lol'd.
GOSH I sound so wound up...moreso than I realized I did...
Technology was just out to get us with this podcast. First it didn't record at all, then we only get half...though really, all the second half was was me getting bombarded with OVER 9000 questions. But orite everyone loves flustering me. So. :| Better than nothing though; I had a ton of fun, despite all the snags.
...WHAT THE HECK, WHY ARE YOU SPAMMING THAT SONG AGAIN? WILL IT NEVER END?!?!? *headkeyboard times infinity* -

*forces herself to go to bed already* -
The link to the podcasts each week are posted here, usually with a download option in case the podcast doesn't wanna play. And they're usually released Thursday/Friday, although there might be a slight delay this week due to [s] the unfortunate death of one of the podcasters[/s] some technical issues.
