Potato Famine?

There is one question that puzzles me: When the potato famine occured, why didn't they go fishing :animenose ??? Crazy Irish people... :animestun

As an Irish person, I must say I find the concept that the deaths of one million people could have been avoided had they simply had the intelligence to fish and thus save themselves from a slow, painful death, quite offensive.
