April 13, 2007 - Street Fighter II on the Xbox Live Arcade has generated more revenue than any other XBLA game, according to Capcom. That can only mean one thing; more Street Fighter games are on the way. Along with an updated version of Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Capcom announced its intentions to bring Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix to both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this fall.

Though Capcom did not have the game on hand to show the audience, they did promise that all of the art is being redrawn by Udon Entertainment so that it will look crisp and clean at resolutions up to 1080p. A few samples of what Capcom is aiming for were shown and it was quite easy to see the vast improvement in the level of detail and polish over the original graphics. Like Street Fighter II for XBLA, this remake will include both online and offline play for one or two players.

Although Street Fighter II have been released and milked many times on different consoles, I am excited to see that Capcom has finally decided to upgrade Street Fighter II?s outdated visuals to hi-resolution 1080p graphics. Along with the redrawn backgrounds and artwork done by UDON comics, I can?t wait to see how all the characters will look like in high-res. More importantly, this may be the game that will initiate me to get into Xbox Live to play against others online and yell ?Hadoken? .

Is anyone else excited to hear about this or have thoughts about this news?

Other than thinking its funny how long it's taken Capcom to actually get around to updating their sprites when Sammy got it right the first time through, yeah, I am excited. I've never really been one for Street Fighter but maybe updated visuals and faster game play will make me actually wanna play it.

I'm glad UDON is doing the new sprites, and it'll be pretty fun to see newer imagery for the game. HD is always good when it comes to fighting games. What I'd like to see, though, is a nicer gameplay engine. *readies self for bombardment from classic SFII fans*

I'm not saying the SFII code was bad, but it is terribly outdated. Having the Street Fighter Anthology Collection on my PS2, I can barely play SFII more than a couple times before switching back to Third Strike.

A similarly nice announcement would be Street Fighter IV.

As much as I would love to see a newer and better fighting engine, I don?t think Capcom is going to change the gameplay engine for this game. At least not yet. My theory is that Capcom is probably going to use this game as a test to see if gamers are still into Street Fighter, and takes notes for the rumored Street Fighter IV. Also, I?m pretty sure all those ?hardcore? Street Fighter II fans would be upset if Capcom changes the gameplay engine.

Anyway, just thought I update this thread with more character sprites that have been revealed on one of Capcom?s blog sites. http://blogs.capcomusa.com/blogs/digital.php?cat=96

Akuma?s comparison pic:

And here?s an interesting quote from the blog:
?Yes, these are actual frames of animation from the game, meaning Akuma will look like this in the game, only animated.?
Ken:

Looks promising so far, and I have to say UDON is doing a wonderful job taking their time to redraw the sprites.

Lol, there's been a zillion street fighter games released already, let's hope this one's a much better improvement.

It doesn't really matter to me though, it's not like I'm gonna squint at the screen to look at Ken's uber strong steriod muscles. Street Fighter is Street Fighter, the same old school fighting game to me. I'll buy it no matter how they change it.
