1. In case anyone was wondering, I got my report on the runtime at darkmark.com, another really good HP fansite.
 2. The most violent anime that I've seen is definately Death and Rebirth (I haven't been able to find End of Evangelion used yet). The first half of it is a clipshow of NGE, an already very violent series, and uses some of the most violent clips you could find in the series , including the three acts of the intense violence in the entire series against human or human-like characters. And then the second half takes the intensity of the most bloody violence in the series and puts it to use against ACTUAL HUMANS! The dub sound effects only made things more disgusting, and Shinji and Asuka's "scene"... An amazing movie, but very, very violent. Other than that, I'd say the Cowboy Bebop movie. I don't know why people think it should have been a PG-13. Serieswise, Stand Alone Complex and Fullmetal Alchemist are both quite violent in places. Excel Saga is violent, but very comical. And Paranoia Agent is violent in it's own way.
 3. Metropolis and Champloo won't be editted. Well, maybe they made a special exception for those few really gruesome GitS episodes due the violence's impact on the plot and Champloo's milder yet excessive blood and violence will have to be editted a tiny bit. But I can guarantee you that it will air at least 95% uneditted. And there's nothing to edit in Metropolis. Paranoia Agent I'm a bit more worried about in terms of editting. Having the first two volumes of it I can easily say that it would have to air at TV-MA nearly the entire time to air uncut. However, most of the violence and sexual themes are vital to the plot, so OTOH it could get by like GitS did.
 4. I've actually heard that Goblet of Fire will be running about as long as the theatrical cut of Return of the King, at just over 3 hours. Given they did a pretty fine nip-tuck job with Prisoner of Azkaban I could see Goblet of Fire fiting into a 3 hours something-minutes timeframe. However, fitting it all into 2 hours would kill it.
 5.
How old is she now, anyway? Do I still have to feel like a pedophile for considering her eye candy?
If I remember correctly, she's 14 (with Dan being 15, Rupert being 16, and Tom being 18). Still pretty young (in fact, the only child actor in the film who is actually the age of her character), and you still might get that feeling. But there is no doubt that she looks particularly hot in this film (in case you were wondering, I'm 12).
 6.
And Eva? There are [i]seven[/i'] books. And I, honestly, think they'll go a bit better than His Dark Material's, which I read, enjoyed, but don't plan to reread. They were a one time thing, while Harry Potter and Chronicles of Narnia I have re-read multiple times.
Sorry, I meant 6 sequels. My guess is that the first, last, and probably a few of the middle movies in the Narnia movies will do better than HDM, but HDM will have a higher average-per-movie. It's similar to comparing the box-office of the Harry Potter movies to the box-office of the LOTR movies. People flock in masses to the first Potter movie, but because everyone knew there would be many Harry Potter movies the box office slowly thined out compared to the shorter, condensed LOTR serties. On the other hand, the Narnia movies could possibly be Star Wars-level quality, pulling in excessive money in every single chapter of a very long epic, and nothings' to say that New Line won't pull an Earthsea on HDM.
 7. This looks good. I remember reading The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe when I was in 2nd grade and liking it. I haven't read the sequels, but I'm guessing they're even better. This movie is giving off a good vibe to it. Almost LOTR-ish, in fact. And if anything remotely gives off the vibe of Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy, count me in for opening weekend! Also, assuming they addapt all six books and release one movie per year, that would put the 3rd, 5th, and 6th films up against the movie adaptations of His Dark Materials. It'll be interesting to see two antithesises battle it out for box office.
 8.
Based on the short clips that it did show, I can see that they've gone in a very mature direction with the film. Which is [i]fantastic.[/i'] The more cynical side of the Harry Potter series has always seemed to have gone underappreciated, underrated.. whatever it is has made it seem like it was put in a little kids category that it has long since evolved from in the books, but is still associated with when you mention the name anywhere.
The third movie I felt did a good job showing the more mature side of Harry. The script might have been very comedic, but Harry himself was getting more serious and was even having murderous thoughts. Also, I wouldn't consider it a more kiddy movie either. I'd certainly think that any kid under 10 who hadn't read the books beforehand would be downright terrified of how they made the Dementors look (as seems to be the case in my experience with younger kids seeing the movie). But, going back on topic, yes, movie 4 looks awesome.
 9. http://harrypotter.warnerbros.com/gobletoffire/index.html One of the best Harry Potter books so far now has is going to become a movie very soon. While I didn't really like the first two movies in the series, the third film is one of my favorite family action films of all time. This movie seems to be carrying on the quality of the third film, and if it improves on the third movies's quality it might be the first Harry Potter movie to be as good as the book it's based on! The trailer looked good. While the trailers for the first two films portrayed a classical childrens' fantasy look (a goal the movies aimed for, but didn't completely achieved), and the trailers for the third film portrayed a darker sensibility (a goal the movie completely achieved), the trailer for this movie seems to be portraying an attitude of sheer intensity. A fitting choice, given that the fourth book is a major turning point in Harry's life and for the wizarding world in general. I wonder if this movie might even end up with a PG-13 rating. I know many WB executives would commit suicide over it, but the whole "bone of the father, hand of the servant, blood of the enemy" climax gets bloody and disturbing and might need a PG-13 to work to its fullest extent. Anyway, I have lots of hope for this movie.
 10.
I actually think the opposite is true. As an example, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie is rated R; were it a big-budget live-action blockbuster, I'm positive it would have been rated PG-13. From what I remember, the violence isn't terribly bloody (it consists mostly of explosions, hand-to-hand combat and the like), and only one scene has noticeable sexual innuendo. It seems to me that the MPAA tends to rate animated films more harshly, probably because animation is perceived as being a medium aimed primarily at pre-teens and children.
Actually, the Bebop movie would have been rated R even if it were live-action. The Matrix was less violent than the Bebop movie and that got rated R (OTOH, Return of the King was more violent than The Matrix as well). While most of the action scenes in CB:KoHD were PG-13 material, I remember several scenes (mostly the ones with Vincent) were really bloody. They only went on for like 10 or 20 seconds, but they were really intense. The acts of violence themselves (stabbing and such) had been done in a PG-13 manner in the Bebop TV show, but the portrayal was less stylized and more realistic than anything in the show. Had those scenes not had been in the movie, I'd certainly have been allowed to rewatch it. Not that it matters anyway. Outside of the fight on the train and Ed going trick-or-treating, there was nothing remotely as fun or cool as the best episodes of the TV show. BTW, I think Ghost in the Shell was rated R, yet Innocence was rated PG-13. I guess the MPAA got a bit uneasy seeing Motoko's bare circuits.
 11.
still i think gundam seed destany is boring because anything that has a sequal repeats the same plot. so it gets boring.
Um, Two Towers and Return of the King? Animatrix, Reloaded, and Revolutions? Godfather parts II and III? Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban? 2nd Gig and Innocence? Toy Story 2? Shrek 2? The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi? Anybody?
 12. Buy a nice appartment in Osaka and one of those cool Japanese cars (OK, it'll be nearly 4 years until I can drive, but it's not as if my family will be able to afford a flight to Japan much earlier than then), because I'd be staying. From having learned quite a bit about Japanese culture from anime, conventions, Animerica/Newtype columns, and several books, I honestly think that I'd fit in better in Japan than in America. The general attitude seems a bit more fun and exotic than that of American culture (and honestly, there is no such thing as true American culture, given that America's mainstream culture is basically just the cultures of a bunch of European nations mixed up together into one big supernation and actual Native Americans account for hardly any of the population). Plus most Asian girls are more attractive than most American girls. And you don't even have to go to a convention to get all of those cool pop culture and anime goods.
 13. This might sound a bit stupid, but lately I've been thinking a lot about Tohru and Yuki's conversation about socializing and kindness from episode 2 (or was it 3) of Fruits Basket. It might not seem that deep, but you have no idea how much Yuki's situation relates to my own life, and thinking about Tohru's words from that conversation are often one of the few thinkings keeping me going when life gets tough for me. In fact, a lot of things from Furuba end up helping me in life.
 14.
Akito's reaction in Fruits Basket's end, I mean, for being someone so
sickly
, you think he wouldn't act like that.
That reminds me of something else (only in the Furuba manga, but since there's likely going to be a 2nd season in 2006 and this will have to be in it I'll count it as a ""Holy $#%!" Moment in Anime"): Finding out that Akito is a
girl
.
 15. The revelation of the stone's ingredients and the
death of Hughes
in Fullmetal Alchemist. Little Slugger's supposed
suicide
, then attack of the
detective
in of Paranoia Agent. Anything from episodes 18 onward of Evangelion, though in particular the Angel-eating scene, Karou being
the last Angel
, and all of the multiple endings. FLCL. The sad fate of Spike in the last episode of Cowboy Bebop. The whole Laughing Man storyline in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Any others?
 16. One anime for the rest of my life? Well, that just sounds painful! However, if this only applies to series and not movies (I could honestly never chose 1 Ghibli movie over all of the rest), I might say Fruits Basket. Furuba is the type of show I like to call "survival anime". It's not the best directed anime series (that title would go to Samurai Champloo), or the most well-written (definately Paranoia Agent in that case), or the funniest (Azumanga Daioh takes that award), or the most dramatic (tougher call on that one, but I'd say Fullmetal Alchemist). However, it has a simple and uplifting story with good characters that makes you feel good every time you watch it. It has a bit of everything in it. While I'll admit it isn't my favorite anime of all time, it might very well be the highest quality as a whole and is the type of anime that keeps you enjoyed the whole time. Of course, if Furuba's 2nd season isn't exactly considered anime and thus gets by on a loophole, it becomes a much tougher race between Champloo and Fullmetal.
 17. Has anyone seen this movie? I haven't, but from the looks of it I'm guessing it will be something I'll love. Anything with Shinichiro Wantannabe behind it is great (with the exception of Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, which really was only made to keep BONES alive, so I'll excuse that), so it already has something working for it without me even knowing that much about it. The screencaps I've seen are just downright beautiful, and if Amid Midi's thoughts on it mean anything then this is something that definately should come to the US soon. It seems like the type of thing Go Fish would go nuts over, so I can safely assume it will be coming at least by the end of 2006 (although late 2005 would make it an Oscar contender, which would be good seeing as that Howl looks like very standardized Miyazaki fare and most critics unfortunately didn't warm up to Steamboy the way that I did).
 18. Favorite Bishojo (most attractive): Tie between Fuu (Samurai Champloo) and Nancy McHarry (Read or Die) Favorite Bishojo (most interesting character): Misato Katsuragi (Neon Genesis Evangelion) Favorite Bishonen (most attractive): Yuki Sohma (Fruits' Basket) Favorite Bishonen (most interesting character): Tie between Athrun Zala (Gundam SEED) and Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist)
 19. YYH will be starting at one of the following times (written from most likely to least likely): 1. When One Piece tanks. 2. When The Batman ends in July. 3. Paired with the DBZ redub on weeknights. 4. On a new Midnight Run block. 5. Sometime farther in the future.
 20. Did anyone go this weekend? I went. In case you might have seen me, I was the kid who cosplayed as Shigure (from Fruits' Basket) on Saturday and asked the voice of Megatron (I forgot his name) about MEGAS and the AnimeonDVD.com guy about IGPX. I had a great time there! It was my first con, and I got to do lots of fun stuff! My personal favorite events: An Evening With Gunslinger Girl, Behind the Alchemy, and the Bad Luck concert.
 21. This week is the Jewish holiday of Passover, so if anyone wants to post anything about if they did/if they're doing anything special to celebrate the festival.
 22.
If they believe that the series is mild enough to show a younger audience, I would think it's because they like the amount of censorship done.
Or maybe they'll actually use a PG version of Naruto to try getting serious with changing Toonami into a teen block. I mean, they're getting Quentin Tarentino to do IGPX, their next Toonami Original Production. If they want to do that, getting a PG Naruto should be a piece of cake. Remember, VizPro was pushing the show for AS from the start, despite CN's decision to put it on Toonami.
 23. Some interesting stuff: Anime Insider had an article about Naruto's editting. It says that VizPro and William's Street were making it for Adult Swim, but CN decided it would be more markettable on Toonami. This could mean lots of last-minute editting... or does it mean we'll end up with a slightly-cut version of an AS tape at a TV-PG? If the latter, I'll be one happy otaku!
 24.
well i have a dvd with the Chinese Dubs and the voices are all HIGH and it just doesnt suit the character and most dubbed animes suck anyway ^^
Well, the Chinese dub likely won't make it to the states legally. We'll just have a subbed version and an English dub of hopefully high quality.
 25. So with Powerpuff Girls Z coming out next year, let the speculation begin on any other possible anime remakes of American cartoons! A MEGAS XLR anime by Madhouse must happen or else! The Madhouse-done pilot episode was better than 80% of the rest of the series, so if Madhouse took total control over the third season, the show would rock! There must be some reason they're putting off season 3 until 2006, and Madhouse might be that reason. I was always intruiged by the possibility of a Batman anime. If it actually happened, WB would likely screw it up and turn it into a Pokemon wannabe, but if they actually had any sense and had Kia Asama (creator of the Martian Successor Nadesico anime and the manga Batman: Child of Dreams) do it, it could be dark, intruiging, and just plain badass. Also, to combat the pain and suffering that will endure once Loonatics premieres, having J.C. (the people who did Excel Saga and Azumanga Daioh) do a series of theatrical comedic Looney Tunes shorts in the classical style. And you thought their previous work was crazy? :p
