Rain storm. Because you are completely safe from Lightning in a car, and if you are up on a hill, water isnt a problem. In a blizzard, its cold, and you can potentially freeze to death no matter where you are. Would you rather be chased by Aliens or a Predator?
I'd rather be chased by a predator. It'd suck to be chased by a bunch of those aliens. I'd much rather just deal with one predator. Would you rather write an essay or do some advanced mathematics?
Yeah, man can be a root of all evil. But, I was thinking about this as well and consider this: I think man created money to encourage fairness in trading (or other legal matters), therefore to avoid stealing (and other crimes). Whaddaya think?
I don't think there's any one reason man created money. The reason you gave makes sense to me. Though i wouldn't consider it the main reason. I think it might be that they figured that not everybody wanted to trade something for a chicken. So then the chicken farmer could only trade with somebody who wanted a chicken and his options were limited. So money was invented to give the chicken farmer more options. Ya get what i'm saying? That's right, i'm saying the chicken farmer created money! Bwahahaha...
Your metaphors are breaking my mind. Also I am not sure you know what 'hypocritical' means. The statement that the love of money is the root to all kinds of evil does not:

mean that money is evil.
mean that everything which requires money stems from evil.
imply that love can be evil.
have anything to do with dirt.
say that people are evil for having created money.
say that people are evil because they use money.
say anything at all about free will.
What it says is this: the love of money?the desire, the obsession, the yearning for more, the wanting things for the sake of having them?leads to all kinds of problems. The love of money is greed. It's wanting things, not because you need them, but because they are there and they are not yet yours. This leads to problems. The love of money directly causes people to lie, cheat, steal, injure, deceive, attack, kill, invade, and destroy. Money by itself has no agency. To assert otherwise is ridiculous. Greed is also closely linked to jealousy, another major cause of human conflict.
I didn't intentionally imply a single thing on that list. It's strange that a person can read my post and have no idea what i meant...but i don't blame you. I am a bit hard to understand at times, you're not the first to misunderstand me. Seriously though man, it's like i only write down half the story and expect people to read inbetween the lines or some ****...i gotta stop that! >.< Although i do know what hypocritical means...i'm not a moron. Here, watch me become a hypocrite! Name calling is horrible, you yankee. See? I know! Now i shall reply to your list in list form! - I never said money was evil. I said that money is possibly the root to evil, just depends on how you look at it. The root isn't evil, the tree is! It's like an oak tree that kills babies! - Didn't say things that require money are evil either. I honestly have no idea where you got that from.... - Of course love isn't evil. Although, just like most everything else, it can lead to evil actions. - It's a metaphor! I imagine the root being a tree root. Trees live in dirt! Get it now? - People aren't evil for creating money. I never even said people, i said man. That's singular. Individuals are evil, not all men in general. Also, i suppose i left some personal beliefs out of the statement that would've clarified. Uhm...man have the potential for evil. There are evil men just as there are good men. It's kinda hard to explain what i mean.... - Never said they're evil for using money. - I know the statement didn't say anything about free will. I was the one that first mentioned free will. Free will is a tangent in this discussion so i'll briefly explain why i mentioned it. God gave us free will, but without choice there can be no free will. So if there is only good in the world there can be no choice and no free will. So by giving us free will he also created a choice, that choice was the opposite of good - evil. So we were talking about how money is the root of evil blah blah and i thought of how i thought free will was the actual root of all evil. So there. ^L^
That is so easy, having been a truck driver, I already know that working for FedEx is a total pain in the rear. UPS is much easier to work with. So I would drive for UPS. No contest whatsoever. :catgirl: Lets see?. Would you rather hike barefoot through the mountains during the winter? Or Would you rather hike barefoot though the desert during the middle of the summer?
Well, since you were a little unspecific i'll just think of the worst case scenario for both situations. Worst case for the mountains is you get frost bite and lose both your feet. That'd suck. Worst case for desert is you get severe burns on your feet, but you don't lose 'em. They just hurt like hell. Also it's a freegin' desert, you'd be all sweaty and sticky and stuff. So i'm going to go with the desert. I'd rather keep my feet. Would you rather sharpen your finger or your toe via pencil sharpener?
Somehow I'm not quite sure you got what we all just essentially repeated to you, bucko. Here, let me clear some things up fo you. (As if my last post wasn't enough! ^_^ ) Good. Neither do I. And most of the others who posted her don't agree with that statement either. (I don't think any of them do, actually.) What almsot all of us responded to you with was a correction to that statement: love of money is the root of evil, not money itself. I can't stress enough to you how important that disctinction is. Money is incapable of causing evil, since it possesses no will of its own. The evil - as I stated earlier - is human; we cause the evil, not inanimate objects or abstract concepts.
Root is the key word here. In the sense that the word is used here suggests that there are things that branch forth from the root, and also there are things that can go deeper down past the root, in the opposite direction. Maybe an older piece of the root or the dirt perhaps. In that sense, then maybe the dirt is indeed money. Therefore the statement money is the root of all evil is indeed true. It's just the next step up that most everybody agrees with is that the love of money is the root of all evil. Well, without money there can be no love of money. Let's even go further though. Who or what created money? Man created money. Therefore man is the root of all evil. And then if you want to get into religion, would not the creator of man be the absolute root of all evil? Or maybe it's the free will that the creator gave to man? Who knows? You say that money itself is incapable of causing evil, right? Well, how exactly is the love of money any more capable of directly causing an act of actual evil? Is it not the person that actually commits this act of evil? Of course it's the person. Also, i believe the love of money is an abstract concept. Do you understand what i'm getting at? To say the love of money is the root and that money itself is not is a little hypocritical.
Well, if you're content with temporary happiness, then go for it. I'm just saying that there's more out there.
What happiness is truly absolute? Is there any source of happiness that can last forever?
Oh boy. This suggest to me that the secret that Person X is now aware of is a rather dangerous one to yourself. In that case, the absolute best way out of that situation is to resolve the secret so that it no longer plagues you. Mistakes can be dealt with quickly, and people will at least look at you favorably for admitting it openly. Accusations are much more destructive to your image and reputation, and those are extremely hard, if not impossible, to build back. I hope this clarifies some things for you. And again, I'm always open for a good discussion, so if you don't agree with some (or all) of what I've said, please say so, and explain why. -A
Eh, i don't like that you say it's the absolute best way. It's really just an opinion, therefore it's not really absolute. It's relative.
Unable to speak. If I can't hear, I'll barely be able to speak anyway. Would you rather live the rest of your life walking around naked or while wearing 10 winter coats?
Naked. If you had 10 winter coats on you wouldn't even be able to move. Although...if i were naked people would think i'm crazy and probably be arrested for public nudity. So, i guess i'd stay in doors most of the time...or only travel by night. Kinda like batman...except naked and not as athletic. Would you rather lose one of your hands or Both of your feet?
I don't want to be a spoilsport... Wait, yes I do! Anyhow, you guys don't seem to know that most of your questions break the parameters that The13thMan explained in the first post. You were supposed to make questions that anybody can answer - including those who don't have wife, daughter, sister, brother or the know-how to shoot with a gun. What's up with all the "you must kill somebody or somebody else dies?" questions, anyway? Don't be so morbid, people! I'd take AIDS and die within a few years. I love my weewee so much! .< So now i shall do it for you! Bwahaha. You're starving on a desert island with another person you've never met before in your life. You know that there is going to be a rescue team to come in 4 days but you also know there is no way either of you will survive that long without food. Unfortunately that means one of you will have to resort to cannibalism. Soooo...would you rather eat the guy or let the guy eat you?
Easy, I would tell them I was dying, because at least I could spend my remaining time on earth with my family. Ok, my turn, here goes. Would you rather live in a bubble for the rest of your entire life? Or Would you rather your best friend die from a horrible disease?
Uh...i'm going to have to let my buddy go. I'm a selfish person and i don't want to live the rest of my life in a bubble. That'd be like being paralyzed for the rest of your life, i'd be totally miserable. At least my buddy would just die and people could move on after a while. If i got stuck in a bubble all my life i'd have to deal with it all my life. And anyways, he believes in heaven, so at least he believes he's going somewhere nice. Me on the other hand, i don't necessarily believe in heaven so death is a scary aspect. I'd pretty much live out the rest of my handicapped life and then die. It's selfish...but also logical. I think? Eh...i'm selfish too! ^L^ Would you rather go to hell for a 1000 milleniums and eventually be saved and brought into heaven for eternity or would you rather there be no afterlife at all? Ok, so on the way back to my college yesterday i played a game in the car with two of my friends. The game is called "Would you rather?" It's a simple game and most of you probably already know what i'm talking about. It's simple. You ask a person would he/she rather do one thing or another. Usually both of these things are kinda disgusting and really awkward. I thought this might be fun with you guys, maybe get a couple laughs out of it while it lasts. So here are some rules i wanna lay down: 1. You answer the question of the previous post and then ask a question that can be answered by whoever posts next. 2. If you cannot answer the question because of a particular parameter within the question then don't answer it. Ex: Would you rather blah blah blah with your brother or your sister? If you don't have a brother then you shouldn't answer. 3. Don't make too specific parameters, try your best to make it so anybody can reply to your question. 4. If you post and you cannot decide on which you'd rather do then that means you would do both because you're sick and twisted. :nono: Ok, those rules aren't concrete, if you think one of 'em sucks or another is needed then say so, whatever. I'll start. Would you rather have sex with your sibling of opposite gender or would you rather have sex with your best friend of same gender?

Well, i don't actually think dreams all come from what we observe in every day life. And the reason i say that is because i have some pretty crazy dreams sometimes. The dreams that i've been having the most recently that are worth mentioning are the ones where i get close to someone i care about. I'd say the main reason for this is because i have a girlfriend back at home and i miss her a lot of the time. This is my first year in college and it's rough being away from home sometimes. Another dream i used to get a lot is where i'd be driving and my brakes would give out. I'd always wake up before i wrecked. Sometimes people say that dreams can fortell the future. I really hope that's not so. It seems that if it were indeed true then waking up from the dream will be the equivalent to falling asleep from that which is reality. Me don't wanna die. Later. Chiyasha, your post slightly disturbs me. It seems like you're implying that money can buy you love. Also you plainly said that you believe it's the most important thing ever. Both beliefs, in my book, are absurd. Money is important to me, but it certainly isn't the most important thing in my life. Like the mastercard commercial says, some things are priceless. I believe that's true. I also believe those things that can't be bought with money are the best things in this world. But dang do i want an xbox 360 and a sweet leather jacket....I just gotta get the green. :grumble:

Those comics are good stuff. I laughed. I just want to know who makes those shirts! One depressed sonuvabeach. I personally don't really like shirts that have slogans on it, i think really cool designs are what's important. My favorite shirt is this flogging molly shirt i have, it's awesome. Shirt The picture doesn't do it justice, in my opinion. Anyways. One time my friend in high school calculus made a calculus shirt. It was funny. I don't exactly remember what was on it, but i do remember one of the shirt ideas she pitched to us. "Don't drink and derive" Bahahaha. Calculus humor...gets me every time. Yes...i am asian. So, i think if the slogan has some kind of meaning besides i'm a moron that likes stupid slogans on my shirt then i'd say it's totally cool. Later.
There's a big difference between actions and words. Making a comment about the Bible not being funny is a lot different than walking into a Catholic church not during a Halloween mass when the youth pastor says the kids can dress up for mass as the Devil. One is just an offhand comment that wasn't made to be insulting and the other is being conciously disrespectful. I'm sure you're old enough to know the difference. Well I'm sure that reguardless of religious beliefs we can all agree that Jackass is hardly the moral standard that anyone should live by. Didn't Jesus say that if someone spits on one cheek offer him the other? I could be wrong since I haven't picked up my Bible in a while. I think the idea of this is to not take yourself or your religion too seriously. Faith is meant to be picked apart and examined or else it shows that it isn't very strong. If your beliefs can't stand up to scrutiny then they aren't that strong. That's really all I have to say to this for right now. Jesus is coming! Look busy.
Words can be just as damaging as actions. Both have the potential to do the same amount of harm. To say they're different is obvious and pointless. The satan costume thing was an extreme of the case, i was trying to prove a point. I know one is more disrespectful than the other. But both are disrespectful and therefore innapropriate. Jesus said many things. In my personal opinion you can't really apply his teachings in an imperfect and evil world. I mean c'mon, if somebody did something horrible to you would you just let it slide? Do you honestly love your enemy? That's another thing Jesus preached. If you love your enemy then you are allowing your enemy to take advantage of you. Of course, it's not a bad idea to try to show compassion towards your enemies...but now i'm just going off on a tangent. Examining one's religion for the purpose of knowledge and spiritual gain is one thing, to make an offhand and sarcastic comment towards one's religion is another. If i asked you why you thought god would let us suffer that's one thing. If i said god's a big kid with a magnifying glass torturing us, then that's another. Do you see the difference? You might not be offended by that particular statement but can you see how somebody might? I think the main misunderstanding here is that people think that i over reacted to his original comment, when i didn't. All i did was tell him it was innapropriate. I don't even think the guy apologized or even said anything else past that. If you guy want to joke around with some people about religion, just make sure whoever you're joking around with is alright with it! Anyways, i'm sick and tired of this pointless argument. Hell, i can't even call it an argument. It's just people misunderstanding what i said and then scrutinizing me about it.
-
It's fine to laugh at religion and make jokes about it privately or among friends. Lord knows i've got a sense of humor when it comes to such things. I never disagreed with anybody there. Where i do disagree is when a person makes a potentially offensive comment regarding religion to a person they barely know. It's a stupid move and therefore it shouldn't be done. It'd be like walking into a catholic church for the first time with a satan costume on, making crude jokes aboug God. It's stupid and pointless. I don't understand how you can disagree with me there. I recall an instance where this dude on Jackass did that. A couple of people got pissed and punched at the guy. The guy was a moron for doing something like that....though, i still laughed. Having a sense of humor and laughing at jokes about your religion is one thing. Taking an offensive comment silently and simply turning the other cheek is another.
You don't need to laugh at it. I doubt Sandy wanted to bring joy to your life or make your day better and if he did he's a better man than I am. It lacked intent to harm or genuine malice. Nothing more needs to be said.
It's not your place to say what he meant by what he said. People need to take responsibility for what they said and the possible reactions of people by those comments. Now, myself personally, it wasn't a big deal what he said. I'm not even angry at him, i'm angry at you. So let's not mention him again, he's out of my mind at this point.
Oh, you were serious when you said that. Woops. He could offend them, yes. Deeply religious people have that odd tendency of being easily offended by trivial statements. Very moody folk, them.
What a moronic statement. My opinion is that humor is not appropriate in religious debates, especially when you don't know how the person you are arguing with is going to take that joke. Now, if you do know how that person is going to take it, and you know that person won't take it the wrong way, then joke the ******* away. I know i've done it many many times before. People need to have respect for other's religion. Do you agree or disagree?
If you're a complete stranger that he'll probably never meet in his life how exactly does it matter if he could have potentially offended you? And what would it say about the hypothetical stranger on this message board who over reacts to another stranger's statements?
::sigh:: That is a pathetically stupid question. Apparantly you have no manners. I try not to piss random people off simply because it's mean spirited and brings pain to others. If you do that, then i truly pity you. I did not over react.
Heh. The answer to my above question is that the over reacting stranger would be viewed in very, very poor light. Chill and work on cutting back on your ego.
Since when did telling a person to chill ever work? Do you really think i'd just chill cuz you said chill? Just wondering. Buddy, you have no idea what kind of person i am. Don't give advice to a person you don't know. It just doesn't make sense. And on that note, you chill and work on cutting back on your ego!

I don't know what you guys are all reading, i personally don't feel like i was attacked at all. I just think most people's comments towards me have been kinda lame. Blah blah humor, right? Well, in my opinion, nothing funny has been said. But then again, i am rather difficult to make laugh. Not because of a lack of humor but because i'm the one that usually tells the jokes around whatever group of friends i'm hanging out with. You'd have to be a pro to make me laugh, or one of the 3 or 4 genuinely funny people i know. Also, it's even harder when you're reading posts on a message board. I stand by my previous comment that it's innapropriate to joke around with one's religion. I never said that i can't take a joke. I'm simply saying that it's a stupid move to do something like that, because you could very easily be talking to a deeply religious person, and you could offend them. I'm agnostic, so i really don't care if you poke fun at any religion. All i'm getting at is it's a fool's move to do so to a stranger, Sandy. Sure, it's good to laugh at yourself, i've done it many a times before. But it's also good to be respectful and tasteful. Your comment was towards a person you've never talked to before in your life, that's why i think it was a stupid one. Tone is lost when you're reading text over the internet. If you could hear me speak what i'm saying with the tone in my voice and the playful smile on my face you'd know my true feelings towards all of this. In all honesty, this whole post was a pain to write. It was pointless. But whatev. Edit: I went back and looked at Deathdude's post and i gotta say, i'm actually a bit angry now. Name calling is so ********** immature, man. In all honesty, i'd probalby punch you in the face for saying something like that to me in person. It's little pricks like you that don't belong in a place like OB. Grow a brain, buddy.
I can understand taking out or cutting down on the transfats in food. But what I don't understand is the way that they just forced it upon us! The man's trying to keep us down! :animeswea Anyways, I think that companies are just trying to save on money by putting less sugar in stuff. It's like I'm paying for less sugar and being bamboozled! And now some foods lost that zing that it used to have. But the most junk food I eat is candy and Wendy's (which I never had in awhile...) I think maybe I'm just unconsciously eating healthy because of the whole subliminal messages. Plus, with less sugar and less artificial stuff, makes me not want to eat junk food because it really doesn't appeal to me anymore.
They are not forcing anything on you.
So God's just a parent who likes to play favourites? Because it hardly seems fair that he'll give his gifts to some and not to others; reveal himself to some and leave others in the dark. You know what I'm getting at; that doesn't make a lot of sense. Assuming, of course, that God is a decent parent and not some asshole deadbeat, like you said.
He gives us all the same things, it is up to us to take advantage of them. But he doesn't have control over our own free will. The environment we are born into is entirely dependant upon our biological parents. Not everybody can be born into a rich lifestyle. This is a consequence of free will. Also, i actually already answered your question. I said that god gave us free will and because of this he lost some of his power. I said that he is not all powerful. He does not have control over our lives, that's what it means to have free will. Maybe that didn't answer your question, so why don't you ask me the same question in a specific instance, be it hypothetical or not.
Why do people assume that, if there is a God/gods, that it's a benevolent, watchful creature? I think the Pagan/Norse/etc religions had a more realistic view of religion; the gods (under the assumption that they exist) have their own damn problems and don't give a rats *** about you, they're not going to hold your hand through life and make all your problems go away the way a lot of religions claim. I mean, why would an omnipotent, infallable diety of unfathomable power give a crap about Joe Blow and his problems? That is, to me, the proof that most of the mainstream religions were created by people with people's ideals in mind, not influenced by some god.
Ok, i'd first like to say that i'm agnostic and that i'm only arguing for the sake of arguing. ::shrug:: But i did used to believe in my previous religion, that being the unification church. Why would God care about us? Uhm, it's pretty much the same reason a parent would care about their child. Now, i mean a real parent, not some half assed drunk redneck father that beats their kids, i mean a real father/mother. Or, let's even take it to a smaller level. Legos! Have you ever built something out of legos? Don't you just hate it when somebody else walks into the room and tries to change it or even destroy it? Yeah, it's like that. My previous view of God wasn't the same as most traditional Christians, although i still would've been considered one...at least by my previous religion. I believed that God was actually a very sad God. I believed that the world that we live in today was a mistake brought on by the fall of man and Eve's innapropriate sexual relationship with Lucifer which created the first lie and spiraled into all that is evil and corrupt. If god does exist then i truly believe that he did not mean for all of his children to suffer throughout life. Look at all that is evil and immoral in this world and you will see that this world is mostly covered in hell. We can only find heaven in small places or in the people that we love. Also, i didn't believe god was all powerful. If he were all powerful then we would have no freedom. By giving us freedom he gave up some of his power to us. Also by giving us free will he also indirectly created all that is evil and wrong. Think about it, how can he give us free will when there are no choices to be made? How can we have free will if we cannot choose from good and bad? If there were only goodness and god then we would not be able to choose, only follow. If there's one choice then there is no choice. Although...to say that he didn't see all of this coming is another thing. He probably did know that there would be suffering, and i also believe that he saw that the suffering will eventually end and we will have true peace. There has to be suffering before there can be peace, i've said it before.

Love is something i've experience before in my lifetime outside of my immediate family. It's a rather tricky thing sometimes. In my life now i'm not sure how i feel about a certain someone. I don't want to make the same mistakes i've made in the past. I'm quite cautious this time around, but is it for the best? I just wanted to know what everybody on Otaku thought of the matter. Are you in love, have you been, are you currently falling in love? Have you fallen out? Do you even think it should be possible to fall out of love? Is love absolute? Can you fall in love at first sight? I pretty much want to hear anything you all have to say about the manner.
No one should be surprised by this. Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long. I must say, though, that I take a small amount of sadistic pleasure from the irony that post-Saddam Iraq is in far worse shape then it was during his reign. Baghdad, once a functioning modern city, has decended into a Mad Max gang-ruled cesspit, overrun by constant violence and divided between religious factions that war with each other. The economy is in terrible shape too, and the infastructure of the country is completely wiped out. Saddam may have been a despotic mad-man dictator, but at least he could keep his country from decending into madness...
Sometimes it takes a little violence for a country to regain its balance and return normality. Look at the bloody history of our nation for example. I'm sure the violence will end sooner or later and after that i believe that Iraq will be much better for it as apose to Saddam still being in control of it all. I'm sure you're not saying you're not glad Saddam's out of power. It's just a damn shame there still has to be so much violence in this world before peace can come. But that is a curse of man... I have mixed opinions on sentencing people to death. I always believe that people should be given a second chance, but only when they truly mean to redeem themselves. If Saddam had no intention of dropping his evil ways then i'd be fine with giving him the ol' hangman, otherwise i'd give him another chance. Unfortunately there is no way to tell whether a man such as that is sincere or not, so, to be realistic, the death penalty was the only logical answer. I wish it wasn't so hard to have faith in people.

How the lemonade!? How the lemonade???? I dunno... I heard that egg whites work well...and elmers glue. But i've never tried it myself. Also i know the egg whites stink so you're supposed to use hairspray or something to cover up the smell. Anyways, good luck.
