Tentative RP Idea [E]

Hey people.

It seems I haven't made a RPG for a long time, and even the ones I have made the past few months haven't been that successful. Anyway, I thought I'd try something different.

My idea is that the people that will sign-up to the RPG will be a team who are trying to stop/solve a crime. Something like the TV show 'Las Vegas' or the movies 'Ocean's 11 & 12' or 'The Italian Job', except from the opposite perspective. Myself and maybe a few other people would be culprits to make everything interesting.

Any opinions?

PS. Conventional RP ideas (fantasy/sci-fi) don't seem to be popular anymore.

First off, I'd like to say that the classic fantasy/sci-fi RPs seem to be getting less and less popular nowadays because anyone can pull one out of their arse (excuse my language). Others, such as my own RP Stranded, which was different, seemed to be pretty successful, as it removed itself from the standard formula.

In my experience, it is the different RPs that get the most attention, although some of them never even get off the ground (one of my most recent RPs, Sin City Yarns, never even got any sign-ups, even though it was a different format to usual).

But I digress. The idea you have come up with sounds interesting, and actually along the lines of something I was planning a while back, although mine was more of a heist-style RP, where you are on the side of the criminals (I think the term crime caper is used most commonly for that kind of story). But I think trying to solve the crime would be quite interesting.

However, you will need to have a good idea of what the crime is, and exactly how it was perpetrated before you even think about beginning. You can't just wing it for this kind of RP, you need a good clear plan of what is likely to happen, otherwise you will get bogged down with endless amounts of plot twists.

But I would be happy to give you a hand with making this RP if you wanted to carry it on into a more coherent idea. You have my MSN, so drop me a line any time and I'll give you a hand.

PS: I'm really glad that people are beginning to create different RPs around here. It's a nice breath of fresh air.

Thanks for the offer Blayze. I'll let you know if I need help.

I watched 'Las Vegas' last night. I was thinking that the plays might take the positions of authority within a casino and I (and maybe an accomplise) would try and wreak havoc, and they'd have to solve these issues.

We'd be playing in real-time sort of.

Gah.... it's going to be hella complicated.

You have me interested.

I'm not sure a real-time RPG would work out. I've seen it attempted before and it never goes well. Too many members are from very different timezones. While one person was robbing a whole city, the cop or whatever could be sleeping the whole time. Heh.

Anyway, I'm definately curious about what you have to offer. ^_^

As Blayze stated in his post, it is indeed a breathe of fresh air. I've seen so many fantasy/sci-fi rpgs, that it seems annoying (Not to get me wrong, there are some good ones there). But even if those type of rpgs are written well, overall it still would be the same general idea.

Your idea is a bit different in the sense that it's hardly played in the Arena. Since there have been few rpgs that had this idea, it would be great to see another. Due to the fact that the plot is always different and an overall unexpected result to those who partake in the rpg. I'm personally a mystery/crime type of rpger, so solving a case or creating the case would be great fun and our creativity would be put to a test. Overall, in order for this idea to play well, you'll need the key item: A well written storyline with a lot of creativity (One that sticks to the more realistic side).

I do look forward for your future development on this rpg idea of yours. I'm sure if Blazye helps out...it would be a greater success (Just look at his Neverland rpg...it's great!). When all this is done, I'll love to sign up (This is the second rpg that I've been interested in, in such a long time!).

Thanks. Sounds like it might have some people that actually think it might go somewhere. Hmm... now to my scheming. I think I'm really going to enjoy being the 'bad guy' in this one.

And since a recent Fast and Furious film came out, I was going to do one on that except include a lot of elements from the Need for Speed games. Meh. I'll just see how it goes.
