Childhood Misconceptions

Recommended Posts

Haha... I like all of these.
Well, I used to think that lions ate American Cheese without chewing it. I wanted to be a lion, so whenever I ate my cheese, I wouldn't chew it. That's right. I figured out how to swallow a whole slice of cheese whole.
I also used to think that salt made ANYTHING taste better - until I put it on a hot dog.
I thought that once I got into 3rd grade, WWIII would start.
I thought cell phones were "Celiar Phones" and had my own vocabulary, including the everpopular "NEXTERDAY".
OOH! And I also thought that when you died, you'd have to be lying down, have your hands over your heart, eyes closed, and TONGUE OUT!
Yep - I watched too much Bugs Bunny...

When I was a kid, every time my siblings or I did something wrong, my father would take us into his study and have us sit down. Being a Lawyer my father would then tell us about what happened to say a thief or someone who vandalized by using either examples from his own cases or from cases his colleagues had represented. It didn?t matter which one of us had misbehaved, we all were brought in and given a lecture.

I didn?t know the difference between a lawyer and a Judge and I honestly thought that after being caught so many times lying or cheating on a test, even though it wasn?t me most of the time, well I thought that just like the people in the cases he told us about, my brothers and I would be escorted off to jail. My brothers enjoyed tormenting me by threatening to cheat on a test just so I could go to jail with them.

I always believed that if I swallowed any sort of seed like a watermelon, orange or apple or whatever, that the seed would actually start to grow in my stomach and eventually out my mouth. I was told this by my horrible brother I think, I had a fear of swallowing watermelon seeds for a very long time, when I eventually did swallow one I ran around the house like crazy believing a plant would sprout from my mouth at any moment.

It didn?t of course and I didn?t die like I thought I would ^_^

I also that that heaven was the sky, as in when you got to the clouds you were in heaven, then again? I also thought that the Shredder from the Ninja Turtles would come out of any drain I passed by and try and kill me. Again this was due to my brother. ^^ happy child hood. I also truly believed that there was a man on the moon and the moon was made of cheese.

I used to think that ice cream sandwiches were literally sandwiches: vanilla ice cream between two slices of bread equaled an ice cream sandwich! Yummy!

(By the way, I'm new...Hi, good people!)

*tries to call up childhood memories*

school?.... no, that's not it.

social life? drinking. I used to to think when drunk, people became faster in their reflexes.

- I was wronged.

childhood memories...found it.

languages: I used to think everybody on the earth spoke english; that was until I found out I have a little bit of japanese bood and moved out to japan. I was wronged again.

films: I sat through stephen king's it, I sat was scared out of my mind I couldnt sleep for a week.

now that I've watched the movie again, I tell myself "The Resident Evil and Silent Hill games are freakier than this man."

gaming: I sat there watching my cousin play resident evil 3, and I thought to myself, wow, who knew medicine could be bad for you? but nonetheless I still had the insomnia cases after wacthing him play.

I was wronged on how zombies are fake.

This one is kind of stupid but hey I was a kid...but there was and still is a candy by the name of the Toostie Roll I think I spelt that right and there was these suckers with candy on the outside and chocolate in the inside and my misconception was about the wrapper. Well on the wrapper if you looked carefully and were lucky there was a star and if there was a star on your wrapper you could return it to the store and get another sucker...or so I thought...and the funny part was I always used to find the star and go to store and get a free sucker...but years later I found out that was not true...all it meant was the guy who ran the store was nice.

I liked reading a lot of your misconceptions and after getting through most of them, I feel kind of ashamed of most of my childhood misconceptions. I know I have more of them but these are the only ones I can remember:

- Ever since I can remember, I always noticed that Santa was always the "jolly big guy" at the mall and I used to think maybe he was a little "too big" to fit into the chimneys. I always imagined he had this small pouch at his side with magic glitter that made him shrink himself so he can fit under the cracks of my front door. Another thing that made me think that was the fact that my house had no chimney. T_T

- Sometimes I used to stay up and watch Scooby Doo at night and I used to be afraid to get off my bed in the morning because I always thought the monsters were real and that they would pull me under the bed. I also thought that "The Gang" were real people too and that every show was based on actual events.

- The trees behind the houses across my street are really tall and of all of them the only one that stands out the most is a big dead branch that never grows any leaves. I always thought (and sometimes still do) that it never grew leaves because all the people that ever died would sit on that tree branch as ghosts.

- I also thought that cats made loud meows at night because ghosts would be running by them. I still get kind of scared when all the cats on my block meow at the same time.

I think that's it. I can't remember anymore of them.
ohp, and there was a crocodile that lived under my bed so i refused to climb into it without using a long wooden board as a ramp to avoid getting eaten.
Did you lure him out of your room with candy and fizzy pop, and lock him in the garage for your father to find?

When I was young, I didn't want to become a teenager because I thought it meant that I would have to get braces and work at McDonald's. It just seemed like all teenagers had that happen to them, so I thought it was something you had to do, kind of like kindergarten, or eating peas and carrots.

(I did have braces for several years, but my first job was at a cafeteria, not Micky D's.)
