Basically this is a story about Yuichi Ezaki, who is hospitalized due to hepatitis A. Bored with always being stuck in the hospital he often sneaks off only to get clobbered by the nurse Akiko Tanizaki. The story revolves around Yuichi noticing a girl, Rika Akiba who is also hospitalized, but for a more serious condition. The two become friends and go from there.

The story of Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora revolves around four main characters:

Yuichi Ezaki: A 17 year-old, second year, high school student who is hospitalized for hepatitis A.

Rika Akiba: A 17 year-old girl, who has hospitalized for most of her life due to
a problem with a weak heart valve that also affected her father and ultimately killed him.
As a result Rika has not been able to make friends easily and spends most of her time reading books.

The other characters central to the story are:

Akiko Tanizaki: The nurse that tends to Yuichi. She's a tough woman and doesn't hesitate to clobber Yuichi or make fun of him when she thinks he deserves it. But underneath all that she cares about her patients.

Goro Natsume: The doctor in charge of Rika's care.

The whole series is only six episodes long and yet it seems far longer as it pulls you right in. The moment you find out what's truly going on it's hard to imagine how it can end since the chances of
Rika living are slim.
The whole series is both lighthearted and serious, while startling you with unexpected glimpses into the harsh realities of life in general.

It's good at sucking you in, I know I fell for it. Once I started watching it, I wanted to know if
Rika lived or died at the end of the series.
I ended up watching all six episodes back to back. And though it did
have a good ending, it was bittersweet and sad.
For a nice short series it was enjoyable and I definately recommend it. It was a well done short Comedy, Drama and Romance story all in one.

I have to agree, that it pulls you in once you realize just what Rika is in the hospital for. I did the same thing you did I watched it from beginning to end and the whole time I was wondering just how in the world they intended to end it.

Ironically I'm surprised DB hasn't watched this yet, it has some very obvious moments that would appeal to him. lol Especially when Yuichi inherits
all those porn magazines and books from the old man
who was in the hospital as well. All the misunderstandings that resulted from that were too funny.

Also at first I really loathed Goro Natsume, even if he was a doctor, he was a jackass. The way he
deliberately interfered with Yuichi and Rika was cruel, sure he may have thought he meant well, but getting drunk and beating up Yuichi was pretty pathetic.
I did get the biggest kick out of Akiko Tanizaki, she was hilarious from the very beginning. The way she just clobbered any patient that got out of line, as well as her
obsession with racing. The time when she raced those other guys driving a sports car... That was priceless.
Anyway, I agree, it's definitely worth checking out. And yes I did
like the nice romantic ending, even if it was bittersweet.
It made me want to see more, to see just
how long Rika lived and what they did. Like getting married, etc. Though I'm assuming that since the intro ends with a picture of them as if taken at a wedding, that they did indeed end up married.
Lolz, funny you should mention this show. I just recently watched Shinigami no Ballad and then someone told me how SnB had replaced this show in it's time slot since they were both only six episodes long.

Since I heard that this show is very tonally similar to SnB, I definitely reccommend Shinigami no Ballad to both of you. Especially since my rp your both in is based on it XD

I will definitely watch this show, since I already thought I might, and this coincidence has solidified it. Plus I need an excuse to look at those spoilers >_>

Ironically I'm surprised DB hasn't watched this yet, it has some very obvious moments that would appeal to him. lol
Oh I agree, like the moment when Akiko's friend attempts to
deflower Yuichi but gets foiled by Akiko. lol
Also I agree, even though they portrayed the doctor in kinder light towards the end, it still didn't change the fact that he was a jackass. Even if he was the one who
did the operation that resulted in giving Rika more time.
Anyway, I'll echo the sentiment that this is a nice short series that's worth watching. It's got a nice mixture of comedy, drama and sweet romance going on and the ending
though sad
was great in that it fit the circumstances of what was going on in Rika's life.
