Great crossover, or greatest crossover?

Anyway, this is the speculation and anticipation thread for what looks to be the best thing ever. Eventually, it will be a general discussion thread, but that'll come along when the game itself does.

Facts:

This is awesome

Apparently Phoenix's (first?) client is accused of witchcraft.

Game's theme is "puzzles that are full of contradictions".

This is awesome.

First time we've seen Maya in four years.

This is awesome.
Anyway, get to speculatin'. As for me, considering the localization team Capcom usually assigns to the Ace Attorney games, I will be very disappointed if there is no mention of weighing Nick's client against a duck. Edited by The Professor

young!Luke seems to point towards this taking place sometime within the second trilogy of Professor Layton games, which, if they're going for any sort of canon at all, kinda gives us a good idea of when the Layton series takes place. Although, at the same time, it looks like this takes place in the past, especially since "witch trials" are involved...so who knows.

In any case, I am excite. The prerelease art looks gorgeous, and even makes the western/European-inspired art of Prof. Layton and the obvious anime style of Ace Attorney blend very well. I'm really interested in seeing what the actual gameplay looks like.

Two things need to happen for this game to be perfect, though:

1. Maya and Luke need to form an inter-generational friendship as a duo of awesome assistants. It'd be totally awesome and completely adorable.
2. [s]Edgeworth. I don't care if he's already going to be in a second Ace Attorney Investigations, WE NEED FULLY-VOICED EDGEWORTH KTHXBAI[/s]

That's another thing I'm interested in; assuming this is fully-voiced, I'm wondering who all will be casted for all the potential Ace Attorney characters, doubly so [s]if[/s] when this game comes overseas.

EDIT: High quality trailer, three minutes long!

Hershel Layton is prosecuting a suspected witch.

That sentence alone would be cool enough without all the other mind-blowingly amazing junk going on in this trailer.

Also, seeing Phoenix's legendary finger point o' doom is even more wonderful in full, fluid, non-sprite animation.

Yes, my keen detective's instinct tells me that many pieces of epic and hilarious fanart can already be found all over the internet!

Greatest crossover....? While I haven't played any of the Professor Layton games, I couldn't say that. But then again, our taste in games are quite different so, yeah...

One thing I'm hoping for is replay value. (Do the PL games have replay value?) As good as the Phoenix Wright games are I tend to only play it one time and sell/trade it because there's just nothing else to do with it once you beat the game, and I'd rather not waste money buying games that're like that.

This combination does look interesting though.

I disagree; I enjoy replaying the Ace Attorney games every once in awhile to freshen my memory, notice stuff I never noticed before, etc. Then again, I play games more for their stories and characters, so. [I've also never sold or traded a game. I've given some away, yes, but never sold or traded.]

As for if the Layton series has replay value, well, yes and no. I've not replayed the first two games yet [and I still need to get my mitts on the third], but there's still stuff to unlock and puzzles to play, even after beating the game. The fourth game evidently has a full-fledged Animal Crossing-esque RPG after you beat the initial game, so there's definitely something to be had there.

Well my goodness. If it's any consolation to you, that specific game [Specter's Flute] has no announcement of a US release, whereas the game following it does, so who knows. All I know is that the unlockable is a 100-hour simulation RPG [simulating what, though, I don't know], and it takes place in the Laytonverse.

Anyway, I could try to convince you to give the series a shot, but I'm really bad at explaining things, so I suggest maybe reading up on the series yourself if you want to give it a go.

ON TOPIC

I'm still really, REALLY curious as to what the gameplay is going to be like. As tantalizingly beautiful that animated trailer is, it doesn't really elaborate on what the gameplay is going to be like. [s]Unless this just turns out to be a giant movie, which...I'm not sure if I'd be frustrated or not if that were the case[/s] Edited by Sangome
