1.
Originally posted by Shinji Ikari Triple H would be my favorite Raw superstar, he is incredibly talented in the ring, and has good mic skills, I feel that triple H works best as a heel, I'm not sure wther he's heel of face at the moment, simply because I don't get to watch much raw at all.
I think Triple H is killing RAW more than anything right now. He's still a decent wrestler (though, he's not nearly as good as he was before his quadricep injury) and he's decent enough on the mic, but he's got such a stranglehold on the World Heavyweight Championship that it's made the entire thing incredibly boring. Consider this: this past month, Goldberg embarked on a mini-feud with Kane used to build up the title match at Armageddon. I found this mini-feud far more interesting than anything Triple H has done this year, because it was a breath of fresh air for the title scene. Triple H had his hand in just about everything having to do with the World Heavyweight Championship and it's really ridiculous. Also consider the fact that Triple H hasn't wrestled a full schedule in God knows how long and he hadn't wrestled on RAW in months, yet he was rewarded with the World Heavyweight Championship at Armageddon over more deserving opponents. I don't want this degrade into a "Triple H is in with the McMahons" thread like so many other threads on other boards have gone, but it does make you suspicious. Other than that, though, I think the other titles are being handled well. Ric Flair and Batista make an interesting team and hopefully they'll be able to make the title scene more interesting than the Dudleys did. I also think that Randy Orton is a good choice to be the Intercontinental Championship, because you can see that he really tries when he wrestles. Even though I love Rob Van Dam, he's really been mailing it in lately. This is especially noticable when you look at his recent efforts on RAW and compare them to his fantastic match with Orton on Armageddon. But that's enough complaining from me...it's not like I'm a better wrestler than RVD. lol
2. Since the other WWE topic is pretty much D.O.A, and since I miss posting about wrestling, I've decided to try and revive some of the wrestling conversation here on OB. Basically, this thread is for any thoughts, rumors, general misgivings, etc. about the WWE and wrestling is general. So, let's have fun and enjoy the thread while it lasts, shall we? I think the WWE has been improving steadily over the past few months, RAW in particular. RAW used to be a cesspool of awful wrestling and horrible storylines, but the whole show has been far more intriguing as of late. The overall wrestling has vastly improved and the storylines are much better (especially the stuff with Jericho, Christian, Trish and Lita - I'm interested in seeing where all this ends up). Smackdown, after a slight dip following the fantastic Iron Man match, has been improving, as well. Some of the more underused superstars are getting much more time as of late, which makes me happy. While the storylines may not be up to snuff, the wrestling more than makes up for it. Over the past few weeks we've seen some great matches, including two in one night from Chris Benoit (I thought I'd never be able to type that sentence, heh). Of course, there are some problems, the biggest stemming from the WWE's horrible misuse of Matt Hardy. I mean, he's this close from exploding into superstardom, but he is continually held back. Matt has been virtually non-existant on RAW since his trade and that fact is very disappointing to me, since I'm a big fan of Matt's.
3. Eh, there are class rings at my school but I don't care enough about them to buy one or even know what the hell they look like. My loss, I suppose.
4. Yeah, I think it's a bit ridiculous that New Zealand is going as far as to completely ban the game, but you can see where they're coming from. However, that's not really going to solve anything, as anyone could easily import the game (provided they have a modified PS2, of course). A much easier solution would be to, as James said, make an 18+ rating for video games and actually enforce it. As long as parents and video game retailers are responsible enough to know what people are playing, there should be no problems. Of course, that's assuming a lot, but it works pretty well, despite what a lot of politicians like to say here in the U.S.
5.
Originally posted by Boba Fett It would definitely be a series rather close time wise to Return of the Jedi, and something that's not too hard to make into the movie. I'd think it'd be the Thrawn Trilogy. It?s a three part series, like the original movies and the prequels. It has an excellent plot, classic enemies, and a whole lot of intrigue. Not to mention action that'd make Episode II and I look pathetic...
I'd have to agree with you on this one...I think that the Thrawn Trilogy would make an excellent set of movies. The books are full of everything that makes Star Wars great: action, adventure, intrigue, suspense and all that good stuff. Plus, it'd be worth it to see Mara Jade on the big screen ~_^
6. Blargh, the things I forget. I actually noticed that about a couple weeks after I began playing Animal Crossing. I recognized one of the animals saying "the" and that piqued my interest. The next time I talked to the animals, I listened in very closely and found that the animals were indeed using real words (I even think that they sounded out the name I used so that it sounded like they were saying that, too). I haven't played AC in a while, though, so I completely forgot about that lol. Very strange the things I remember and the things I forget :whoops:
7. Yeah, the scanner really did a job on the picture - which is a shame because it's quite good. I like the texture of the grass in your picture. The grass does not look fake and it looks as if it's swaying to and fro in the wind; a very nice effect, indeed. Of course, Simba looks good, just like he does in the movie, so there's no problem with that. Overall, the only problem I see is with the sketchy nature of the drawing, though whether or not that is due to your scanner, I do not know. Either way, the drawing is good.
8.
Originally posted by OtakuSennen Some actual voices?- The weird gibberish speak of the animals bothered me some. So much that, in combination with that awful rainy day music, I never had my volume up at all while playing this game. Voice acting may be annoying too, but in my opinion it may be better than some little beeping sounds.
Eh, the gibberish speak of the animals in AC never really bothered me too much - I'd probably prefer it to regular voice acting, which I think would take away from the overall charm of Animal Crossing. Also, voice acting isn't always the preferable option, anyway. Look at StarFox and StarFox 64 - I much preferred the gibberish speak on StarFox to SF 64 (though, this was probably due to Slippy's incessant whining - you had to save him every couple seconds, for God's sake).
9. I am thankful for many things, most of them video game related. So, yeah, enjoy my stupid list. lol Advance Wars - For providing people with fun little cartoon mini-wars. Breakfast - Because I was really hungry a few minutes ago. Chris Jericho - I must give props to the Ayatollah of Rock 'n Rolla :p Dancing - At least, I'd be thankful for it if I could do it. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem - GameCube's most underrated game. Final Fantasy VI - The best of the Final Fantasies. GameCube - So many good games I need to play. Halloween - For increasing my candy intake. Ico - The game rules, more people need to buy it. Junior Varsity Tennis - If there weren't such a thing as JV, I'd never play any sports :p Kirby Super Star - Most underrated game ever...play some Kirby, people! Legend of Zelda - My favorite gaming series ever; I've had so many fun adventures as Link. Mario - Platformers rule and so does Mario. Nintendo - Do I really need to explain this? lol OtakuBoards - *insert sucking up here* Pikmin - I'm obsessed with making cute little armies. So sue me. Qix - Or whatever that weird guy's name was. lol Rob Van Dam - Really, how fun is it to see him fly around? SNES - Best system ever. Don't deny it. Turtles - Because they're cool. Recognize. Uganda - Because it's a cool name. Violins - The Koroks in Wind Waker play a mean plant violin. Wind Waker - Best graphics I've ever seen. Xylophones - Ah, the wonders of x. Y - See, I do know some Spanish. :p Z - For being the first letter of my last name and keeping me from going first in school projects. I toast you, Z! And that's about it. That took me a while, heh.
10. Blah, I keep forgetting about this game - every time I think "Hmm...should I buy this game?" another game comes out and I suddenly want that. Ah, the curse of a short attention span :p Of all the games you mentioned, the only one I still have is Gauntlet (Elf needs food...badly - not Warrior, you wimp ~_^). I'll probably end up renting the game sooner or later, because I've always wanted to play an arcade-perfect rendition of Smash TV (no good arcades where I live). Smash TV was awesome on the SNES and I assume that it's even better here, which would be quite a feat. Hmm...I don't know whether I should feel sad because I'm old enough to remember these or rejoice because I'm old enough to enjoy them :D
11. A little off-topic: I just think it's cool that Ganon has an Eternal Darkness quote in his sig ^_^; Personally, I'd like to see the whole world map idea that James was building on come to fruition. How cool would it be to go to exotic lands and be able to pick up rare fruits/items/decorations/what have you? It would be an interesting Animal Crossing experience to say the least. Cars and airplanes would also be a cool, if expensive, endeavor. Just imagine if your animal were able to get rich enough to be able to afford it's own personal airplane! o_O; Customization of the animal you start out as would also be very welcome. I was a tad disappointed with the animals that you could play in the first game because they didn't really appeal to me, heh. But who knows what kind of whacked out animal I'd create if I were given full (or even partial) customization? There's more but I'm on limited time right now.
12. Hmm...what would a Shinmaru action figure have? Well, for starters, there'd be tons of different accessories. Most likely mini versions of different gaming consoles. The older, the geekier, I'd say. The Game and Watch watch is only available for a limited time since it's so small and can choke little kids who eat it (not to mention that I'd like to avoid a billion lawsuits). The [strike]doll[/strike] action figure would also come with random items of geekery, including a plastic lightsaber, Yu-Gi-Oh cards, a Nintendo Power magazine and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (neccessary for absorbing essential facts and foreshadowing in Harry Potter). Also, the action figure would also need to talk. Naturally, there would be two different versions of the Talking Shinmaru available. The first just spouts out random perverted innuendos like the real Shinmaru does in chat rooms. The second version just throws out random obscure references to different things in the hopes that somebody will recognize them. The action figure will also be fully posable so that Shinmaru can bow and give many thanks to the Nintendo Gods. How could not enjoy forcing Shinmaru to bow before his beloved Super Nintendo? That's right, it's impossible not to enjoy it. Work with me, here. Lastly, the Shinmaru action figure comes with a quizbook chock full of random questions about Nintendo. If you aren't a Nintendo geek, then you have no right owning this action figure. But people will buy it, anyway, because I'm just that popular. Yeah. The price will be $29.95 because corporations enjoy making you pay a lot of money for stuff that you'll only play with for one day. How exciting! Of course, I get one for free :p EDIT: One last thing...if a Syk3 action figure is ever released, the Shinmaru action figure is fully capable of interacting with it, in that the Shinmaru figure will perpetually make sammiches for the Syk3 action figure's enjoyment. However, whether or not the action figure will type overly long sentences while doing this is unknown.
13.
Originally posted by Desbreko As for Zelda: A Link to the Past being frustrating... Well, okay, I won't go there, because I'm modest and don't like to brag. :toothy: But I will say, on the SNES version, it doesn't just count the times you die. If you notice, it says "Games Played" at the end of the credits, not "Lives Used" or something like that. That means that every time you save and quit, it adds one to the Games Played number. That means getting a 000 score in the SNES version of LTP doesn't just mean beating it without dying, it means beating it in one sitting. So if you're just looking at the number and not actually remembering whether you've died or not, you may have done it without dying, but saved and quit a few times. Thankfully, they fixed that on the GBA remake, however, so it only counts deaths.
No wonder I had 20+ games played every time I finished Link to the Past :p As for the Level 9 CPUs on Smash Bros...I've never really had those kinds of problems against them. But they do seem inhumanly fast a lot of the time (sort of like the Perfect and Dark Sims in Perfect Dark - maybe the Level 9 CPUs were made to be overly difficult, heh). And I totally forgot about the Goron Dancing; definitely my least favorite part of Oracle of Ages, to be sure. I had to that over and over and over again, until I got lucky and actually finished that part of the game. Not as frustrating as Just Can't Wait to Be King, but pretty damn close.
14. I guess I must be insane, then. lol I've probably been spoiled with really easy platformers over the years, but I found those parts of the game to be overly tough (except for the first couple, which had a good balance between difficulty and fun). But eh...you like them, I don't. And finishing without dying is definitely easier on the N64/GCN versions of Zelda than on NES/SNES versions. I mean, when I can beat Ocarina of Time for the first time while dying only once, the game is a bit easy, heh. Boy, that last part made me sound like a hypocrite :p
15. Yes, this is a topic that I am well familiar with...I've had many a frustrating moment in gaming. I'm well known to yell and scream during especially frustrating moments. I'm not as bad as I used to be but I still have my moments, heh. Recently, the most frustrating gaming moment for me would have to be found in Super Mario Sunshine. Just pick and choose any of the little mini-levels in which Shadow Mario steals the FLUDD and I can guarantee that I was not in a good mood by the time I was done with the level. I hated those things with a passion. Also, even though I love shooters, they can ignite my vicious temper very, very easily. Shooters are well known as being very tough games and, trust me on this, you don't want to be around me after I've played through an especially tough shooter, heh. The most frustrating shooter I've ever played would have to be Super R-Type; God, that thing was insane. I died like once every couple seconds while playing it. And, yeah, I can relate with the sentiment about Link to the Past. I must have beaten the game completely (that is, beat it and got all of the items) about five or six times and I have still yet to beat the game without dying at all. I've gotten close but then some bastard enemy always comes out of nowhere and kills me when I have one heart left or something. And it's always something wimpy like an Octorok or those crab/bumblebee things (what the hell are those, anyway?). I could go on forever with this but I have limited time, so I'll stop while I'm ahead. Just thinking about all this crap is getting me angry. lol EDIT: For some reason, PoisonTongue's comments about the Back to the Future game reminded me of this one level in The Lion King (Just Can't Wait to be King, I believe). Basically, you just went through the level jumping through obstacles. HOWEVER, if Simba touched even one little pixel he was not supposed to touch, he died. Immediately. I swear, it took me fifty curse-filled lives to get through the first part of the level. Then I died during the second part and had to repeat the entire level again. Just Can't Wait to be King = most frustrating and unfun level in a video game I've ever played.
16.
Originally posted by James But I must ask a question about this dialogue business. Am I the only one who would prefer text-only dialogue in games?
Absolutely not. I much prefer reading to spoken dialogue with only a couple exceptions (Metal Gear Solid being the most notable, though that didn't have nearly as much dialogue as a normal RPG, heh). I'm a pretty fast reader, anyway, so I generally have no troubles with text-only dialogue. I wouldn't have a problem with spoken dialogue if companies would actually hire people who knew how to act to read the damn stuff. Nearly every single game I've heard with a voice acting crew just about made me cringe whenever the dialogue was read (again, with Metal Gear Solid just about being the lone exception). This was a big problem with FFX, as I did not enjoy the voices at all. And if Link ever talks (and I don't count random screams during battle as talking), I will resort to playing Zelda games with the volume turned down - and I wouldn't enjoy that seeing as I love Zelda music and sound effects. EDIT: And I agree with Tony about the U.S. FFVII translation - it was really bad lol. I should know, seeing as I've played the game enough times to notice it, heh.
17. I'll have you know that I saw this while I was coughing and then I had a laughing fit. Thanks a lot lol. Great picture, though - very funny stuff. I still remember those Alien posters quite well, heh. The guy in the picture is more of an extreme geek, though; I know I don't look like that :p And it looks to me like he's opening an XBox controller, so I'm guessing he's one of your friends. lol
18. I'd have to say that the most competitive game for me is Super Smash Bros. Melee. My brother and I battle each other constantly; we're always trying to one up each other and whomever wins always makes sure the other remembers it...at least, until the next bout. Also, Perfect Dark was really competitive when my brother and I rented it. Even my sister got involved, which is very rare (though, she does play games on occasion). It's always very fun to come up with new and original deathmatch conditions to see if we can make the game a living hell for whomever else is playing. There are more but these are the most competitive games that I've played.

20. Jeez, I was gonna watch this but I got swamped with a ton of homework and studying :/ Knowing Comedy Central, though, they'll probably rerun it a million times (at least, that's what I'm hoping). Based on your positive comments, I know I have to catch The Hebrew Hammer the next time it comes on, heh.
21.
Originally posted by liveit has anyone gotten the game yet?
First of all, double posting is definitely not allowed at OtakuBoards, so that's strike one. Also, you double posted with a pretty inane post that doesn't contribute much to the "conversation" taking place in this thread. Please pay more careful attention to the rules in the future. Thanks.
22. I think that when your name is changed, you have to put some sort of reminder in your signature for about a month or so. For example, James changed my name and placed a little part in my signature that my old name was mirai_torankusu. I kept it in there for about a month or so and then deleted it. Whether or not people actually take that rule to heart is something I'm not aware of. However, that's how it's supposed to be.
23. #1 When did this interest start? A couple years before the special edition remakes of the original Star Wars trilogy came out into theaters. I was probably about ten or so when I started liking Star Wars. #2 What is your favorite Book/Movie? Favorite movie is definitely The Empire Strikes Back. My favorites of the books are all the books with Grand Admiral Thrawn: Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command, Specter of the Past and Vision of the Future. Timothy Zahn is a damn good author. #3 How into Star Wars do you think you are? I'd say I'm in the upper middle echelon of Star Wars geeks. I'm really into it but there are definitely people whom could put me to shame, heh. #4 Do you do anything Star Wars related online, if so what? Not too much...I've joined in a couple Star Wars RPGs, researched about the movies and joined in a couple quizzes. Nothing too major. #5 How do you pursue your interest in Star Wars here on the boards? I talk about it every time it pops up. lol #6 Any general comments, cares or concerns about Star Wars you feel obligated to share? I'm concerned about the next movie because the last two were so awful...and it's not all on George Lucas because the acting quality of the last two has been terrible along with the writing and directing.
24. I used to be a huge, huge fan of Rage Against the Machine but now I just like them...I'm not obsessed like I was before, heh. I always liked the sound of their songs, especially the guitar; Tom Morello is an amazing guitarist, no doubt about it. I never really got into the political aspect of the band, so their feelings on politics are pretty much a moot point to me. My favorites of theirs would have to be Bulls on Parade, Ashes in the Fall and Sleep Now in the Fire.
25. Haha, very clever, PT. It's a bit plain (except for the pink Version 7.0 at the bottom of the banner) but it still looks nice. I think the GTA font is a nice fit for OtakuBoards lol. Good work.
