1. I personally see nothing wrong with the doll saying that, I do see something wrong with you wanting them to release other dolls to stay PC. In my opinion I think if Mattel is only trying to target the (growing) islamic audiences in the nation then they should go through with it. They've probably found a market for toys like that, however, I think they will have done their research and won't release a christian or buddhist variation for the simple fact that the market either doesn't exist or is not yet profitable. I don't believe making buddhist and christian variants will make it ok, I think its fine being a uniquely religious toy. By your logic why don't all the Bible publishers publish Islamic texts as well because aren't they purposfully leaving out other faiths as well? Why don't the peddlers selling WWJD paraphernalia also sell WWAD stuff? Of course comparing joe schmoe to a multi-national corporation is a little farfetched, but I truly believe if he can do what he likes, they should have free choice too when it comes to what market they want to target.
2. I wear polo shirts and jeans mostly. I have ALOT of polo shirts but I'm going to start phasing those and then jeans out in favor of suits. I've been somewhat shifting my style over the last 3 years from tall-tee's and sagging jeans to something a little more comfortable (try sitting down in a wet seat by accident with your underwear exposed, I'm sure if more people did that the style would die). Suits are fun because they stay in style forever and 4 suits + 20 dress shirts gives you over 100 different outfits. You'll also never go wardrobe changing again. My plan is to have a closet as diverse in suits as Henry Hill from Goodfellas. I may do the jeans and blazer combo but I need to stand in front of a mirror for that. For those of you who wear dress shoes, do you shine them regularly? I shine mine every weekend.
3. Is it just me or does this movie feel like a rip off of the Prince of Persia video game franchise by UbiSoft? Look at the Scorpion King's (prince?) general look and compare it to the Prince from the aforementioned franchise. They are really similar. Anyone else feel this way?
4.
Does anyone know a good location to see it online? Or do I just have to resort to YouTube?
For your eyes only*;) Do enjoy.
5.
...because I'm not sure how our opening ceremony in London 2012 is going to compare. Dancing cockney chimney sweeps, perhaps?
Whatever it is I'm sure its going to involve Harry Potter, seeing as he's your most recognizable international symbol. Perhaps the History and future of the wizarding world as opposed to China's visual history? Good luck finding all of those people. Ohh! The new stadium will be a complete duplicate of the Quidditch world cup stadium! (please excuse my geek)
6. The general consensus in 2008 is to ignore the human rights violations and 10 year old gymnasts... Didn't you get the memo? Your problem is you're trying to inject nasty politics into something that by all means is meant to show the world can come together, despite our differences, and engage in something truly wonderful.* Its a common thing in history that the world ignores the problems of the host country. Germany hosted in 1936 Olympics despite their treatment of Jews and America hosted 1960s Olympics desspite of the civil rights movement that was sweeping the country due to poor treatment of blacks. I'm just saying guy, save the politics for when NBC goes back to showing Hardball and Meet the Press. And if you want to get mad at someone get mad at America for only having 10 gold medals against China's 17, we have a message to send here and our team isn't delivering.
7. Just finished reading Shalimar the Clown by Salman Rushdie. I really like his style of writing, but the story was so depressing I'm scared to read anything else by him. No one came out of that book with a happy ending. Right now I'm taking a break from fiction and reading Democracy Matters by Cornel West and The Revolution: A Manifesto by Ron Paul. The books both talk about an end to American imperialism abroad and focus on solving matters at home. I think after I read those two I'm going to continue my descent into nonfiction hell and get a guide to programming in Python (which is my personal favorite language for scripting) and read some technical books focused on network security and information assurance. Books I'm looking at are Gray Hat Hacking by Shon Harris Reversing: The Secrets of Reverse Engineering by Eldad Eilam The New School of Information Security by Adam Shostack and Andrew Stewart That should be my entire reading list over the next 9 months. Oh and the AFOATS manual for field training next summer.
8.
The only reason that people complain about Accent Core Johnny is because they nerfed him by making all his Mist Finer stances catch-only. However, he does have very good range (several people are caught off guard by how far the extension for Johnny Special goes) and he's a damn good poker once you get in range. Besides, when you get EX Johnny, that's all the speed you could ever want right there. (And the animation is damn cool besides.)
I agree, his pokes are godly, that is if you learn to mist cancel, without it Johnny is just slow. And I don't use EX characters because my friends (who play tournaments) can't because the fight will be unbalanced. I would personally like to see Arcsys balance the EX characters with the regular characters and double the roster while also giving characters a choice. And bring back JUSTICE!!
I'm not gonna lie and say that I-No's not hard to perfect. She's definitely one of the more difficult characters to really get down and dirty with. However, I wouldn't go so far as to say you have to have go joystick to get into her. Quick thumbs are a requirement for many characters in the game (i.e. Millia and Order-Sol for his Instant Kill Super), but she has some solid combos. She's just a really aerial character.
Well yeah, her basics don't really require a stick, but when you get into advanced stuff like her Chemical Love IAD combos, which become like bread and butter for her once you master them, you'll realize how hard it is to do the HCB movement with the precision needed to airdash out of it.* Another character who you need a stick to master is Eddie, that's why I rarely play with him. You do know his shadow acts when you release the button, not when you press it. So to perform of his more advanced maneuvers *read: unblockables* you need to be able to hold down one button while using the others to continue your gattling.*
9. Well I have the latest installment, Accent Core. In that game I play I-NO and Johnny. My Johnny game is straight up pressure. Next to Potemkin he's the slowest person in the game (because he has that lame dash-hop) but his range is excellent. Mist Cancelling (chaining into mistfiner stance after a poke and cancelling) more than halves his recovery time. What I really like about him is his streamlined strategy. Most people complain that he doesn't have many options but everything he does leads into the same devastating combos and you can set it up if you mix up properly. I-NO is hard to play with on a serious level. To perfect her you need to give up the traditional playstation controller and buy a dedicated arcade stick. Then again unless you have a really quick thumb. I've considered switching the attack buttons to the shoulder buttons, but since that's not legal in tournament play I don't. My cousin and his friend are southeast regional champs and they go to the tournaments whenever they can. He plays Chipp and his friend plays Jam.
10.
With your influences you listed, are we thinking sort of a dark kind of a world, but with a sense of irony running throughout? Because Batman Beyond and the animated series of Superman are pretty serious, but The Venture Bros. is more tongue-in-cheek - so a combination of the two would be half-serious, am I right?
I'm going mainly for black comedy in this world. The things our characters will do will be of the dark sort. Maimings, mass murders, doomsday devices etc. I do have a story in mind and I guess since both the League meetings and the story are going to take place in the theatre then I can use the backstage thread to database the 'supers' as it were. Also, I'm not spoofing comic book heroes as much as I'm spoofing the whole superhere Genre. Legion Hall Thread: Will be where my character, being the Malevolent Dictator for Life of the League (unless someone rises to challenge him;)) will lay out the topics of discussion. Here is where I'll post world news and events that will likely effect we the evil. I will also be assigning out missions and such. This thread will most definitely be the bread and butter of the rpg where plans are made (that's why I wanted it back stage) Legion Mission Thread: This will be the execution of said plans. This is where the characters who have been dispatched to do evil do there evil. This is where most of the RPing will take place and where the characters get to develop. As DeLarge pointed out a lot of infighting is to be expected. I'm still open to suggestions btw
11.
Oh, and no RPG is eternal (except Kill Adam, apparently), so even though you can keep the sign-ups open as long as you want, the game will slip into oblivion eventually like everything else. ;P
I should rephrase. The rpg won't be eternal, just the auditions won't close for the duration. Also as far as both threads being in the theatre. Ok, but I want the Guild meetings to be looked at like a conversation. Kinda like the person's character is sitting in a room with talking heads on the tv screen. It could even be  considered the League message board (the first mission will be the league trying to score funding for their organization ) PJ, honestly I want it to be more DC Animated Universe (Justice League, Batman Beyond, Superman: The Animated series etc.) with some Venture Bros. thrown in than 60s Batman or the Superfriends. Does that make sense?
12. Hey all, My schedule soon will be open (well, if you would call september soon) and I was thinking of starting an RP called Legion of Villainous Outcomes. The basic premise is the Society of Heroes have just lobbied Congress and parliaments around the world to pass bills that would have all captured villains be registered with local governments and kept under watch. In essence, Supervillains will be treated like common sex offenders and forced to abide by the same laws including the requirement to inform their resident neighborhoods of their offenses. This is a slap to the face of Supervillainy and as such, many Villains have decided to band together. Together, they will not only fight the system which has oppressed them, but they will also use their new found Legion to achieve the shared dream of world domination (and dental). There are two main components to this game. The first, is the backstage thread which will serve as Legion meeting headquarters where players will post in character to discuss the goings on and plan our next action. The second will be the actual theatre thread where we will post our plans coming into fruition. This way it will be as if the guild is planning and executing these plans Lastly, the Auditions will NEVER close. But if a villain is not doing his part he may lose his rights as a card carrying villain. So what do you guys think?
13. Posting friday. Have a big math test on thursday.
14. I love the avatar, its great. Scratch what I said earlier. Thankyou for both and I'll use them.
15. I was hoping to get a banner and avatar created using one or both of the pics attached. I also have a symbol I hope to get put somewhere in the banner. Other than that its completely up to the artist. Thanks in advanced
16. So in my next post (and yes, I will be back to posting regularly unless some catastrophe strikes) I'll be herding all of the little piggies back into the pen known as the VB. I still haven't made contact with many of your characters outside of Indi's and her NPC so if anyone particularly wants to interact let me know.
17. A crew of three walked with the Major as she made her way toward the escape pods. Upon arriving at the section of the outpost, her crew immediately revealed the doors to be something not at all wanted, jammed. A displeased look from the Major immediately had them scrambling to right the problem. Three minutes passed with no luck and the Major’s patience grew thinner, she was already pissed as it was. “What the hell is taking so long?” she asked her crew, calmly trying to hide the fury welling up within her. Their answers were too frantic for her to care, and her eyes immediately began to wander. They fell upon an air vent slowly pumping oxygen. Immediately, she called her crew to go through the air vent and within two minutes, the door was open. Christie walked through the door to find the control panel mangled on the opposite side. Whoever had come through here last did not want to be followed. She made a mental note of that and kept moving. The next door had the same problem, and the crew solved it once again through the vents. All in all there were at least six doors before they finally made it to the pod deck. On arriving, not to Christie’s surprise, three pods were missing. She immediately tapped her earpiece and made a call to her favorite tool. “Woz, start downloading the security feeds from the outpost and find out when the escape pods launched. Alright baby?” she looked to her crew, “What are you waiting for? We have time.” With that her crew immediately began a clean sweep of the pod deck. They checked ever corner, console, and corridor, desperately trying to find an answer for the Major. Upon their reporting nothing found, Samantha and her goon arrived. “Did you find anything?” asked Samantha, who looked as if she had just half walked half ran down this way. “Not a thing, we did get confirmation that the pods were missing however.” Christie said, running a hand through her hair, “There’s absolutely nothing to find here. We should move everyone back to the Von Braun.” “I agree,” replied Samantha, “I’ll assist where needed.” Christie almost told her she wouldn’t be needed. Honestly there wasn’t room for two sets of ovaries in this operation, and she couldn’t understand why Samantha insisted on being so annoying. Maybe she felt the same way. Christie logged on her headset and immediately began barking orders as she walked through the doors. Her demands were simple: usher everyone back to the ship and have the Von Braun get off this rock. As she moved, she couldn’t help but notice the clack of Samantha’s heels behind her. Annoying bitch.
18. My take (chief of security) is ALL hallways will be monitored. Rooms such as the mainframe or war room won't be monitored considering that you'll need special access to get in there anyways and cameras would just be redundant. Closets will not have cameras inside them. This will make it very hard to get around the ship but luckily all of the maintenance and security guys are uniformed. If you were to say, follow one of the guys into the bathroom and steal their uniform, the sheer number of crew members on the ship should be enough to get to most places without being recognized. If you're already ship personnel and want access to somewhere you don't belong, you could always swipe an access card or slip past someone to get in. In the end, the final decision is up to Indi and James, but I don't think ship security will be lax. I mean a pleasure cruise can turn into a nightmare if one person gets out of line, I mean look at Ahab.
19. My character, Christina, will be walking the floor where the main entrance is located. So if anyone wants to interact, please do so.
20. In reference to Woz, the droid character I introduced. It talks like stephen hawking. That is all.
21. A light jazz standard could be heard in the background as Christina showered. The long day on the road to the Von Braun had left her face sooty and her clothes smelled slightly of oil and rubber. Stepping out of the shower, she was surprised to see it immediately close and begin to spray itself clean. That's one feature she missed in the plethora of manuals and technical reports she forced herself to read on the ship. She pulled a towel from one of the compartments in the spacious bathroom and dried her hair and skin. No sooner than she looked into the mirror, a red light began flashing on the wall. It was an indicator that someone was at the door. Her mirror faded away to be replaced with a screen showing who it was at the door. She wasn't surprised to see who it was. Wrapping the towel around her exposed bosom, Christina tiptoed toward the door and opened it, assuming a suggestive position as it slid open to reveal her guest. "Wozzy baby, where have you been all my life?" The little robot, Woz, floated into the room where Christina shut the door behind it. "Must you taunt me, Major?" said the droid in its usual monotonous voice. Christina smiled, "But baby, you know I love you." "Save it for someone who gives a darn." replied Woz. As Christina went back into the bathroom, the little droid followed her. "I received your message regarding my assistance. However I don't know what you want me to do." An arm extended from its frame revealing her note and glasses. Christina grabbed both of them and laid them on the counter. "It's easy Wozzy baby, I want you to hack and monitor the systems. Beat the hackers at their own game." "Major, that is counter productive. A detail is already assigned." "Did you check the personnel in that detail?" asked Christina, who was applying makeup by now. Woz began humming as it interfaced with the Von Braun's personnel files. Once it reached the information assurance detail, it found only one name in the file. Woz. "Darn you Major, you snake, I should have known you would only invite me here to work." Christina turned and grabbed Woz out of the air, pulling it close and kissing it on its central disk, leaving a noticeable lipstick stain on it. "Thankyou baby." She immediately dragged it through the air out of her quarters and thrust it back into the hallway. Woz straightened up and floated off, as pissed as a droid could get in this situation. Christina went back to her makeup. She had first received Woz from the military as an electronic warfare unit. It served with her for much of her career and upon her retirement, she requested that it be brought with her, otherwise they would have scrapped it in favor of a newer model. Its AI, though advanced, still had not passed the paradox of true independent thinking, otherwise it would not have listened to Christina's order. Its programming only allowed it to reason for itself, but at the same time it was not allowed to give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to Christina. That's why she talked to it the way she did, because she knew no one would find out. Every once in a while a girl wanted to be a girl, no matter how much her job and life needed her to be otherwise. Christina finished her makeup and put on her clothes in silence. Her day was far from over and indeed she felt many challenges still awaited her.
22. "Major, it's an honor to meet you." said the young man who greeted Christina with a salute at the gates. Christina sighed slightly, for his salute was very off and if he really wanted to show her respect, he would have not saluted at all, or at least did it right. From her motorcycle she returned it, taking extra care to make sure the tip of her fingers touched the edge of her sunglasses and quickly dropped it. However still stood at attention. With all the patience of a mother, Christina smiled and corrected him, "You drop your salute with me. If you're going to play military dear, make sure you know what you're doing." His face turned particularly red and he immediately began unloading the small trailer behind her bike. Christina stepped off to watch him take her bags. As he did so, another young man, a valet, came rushing up. He stopped short of saluting her. "Ma'am, I've been instructed to take your motorcycle to port storage for the duration. May I have your keys?" She tossed them to him and motioned for him to wait until her trailer was cleared and all of her things were loaded onto a trolley. She signaled for him to get her bike. "If I see one gig on it, I'll see you personally..." she took a moment to read his name tag, "Dan." Christina turned to see her bellboy struggling with one of her luggage bags. It was a large briefcase, much larger than the standard size. "Move." she told him, walking over and one handedly picking the briefcase up and walking. He followed with the trolley, astounded and embarrassed by how easily she took it. The two of them took a car around to the security entrance. The boy said nothing as Christina immediately took out a headset and began making calls. One was to her floor manager, Fuse, making sure he and his team were monitoring the boarding of the vessel. They were checking tickets and passports, and ensuring guests were directed in the right direction towards their rooms. The second call was to Rufus, the head of the surveillance group. Their job this day was to make sure Fuse's crew didn't miss anything. By the time she finished up her phone call, she had arrived at the gate. She and her assistant gathered her belongings and she helped him get her briefcase on the trolley. "Make sure this makes it to my suite on D-3." she ordered. She took her glasses off, revealing a pair of beautiful baby blue eyes. She then pulled out a note and wrapped it in her glasses. Stuffing them into his shirt pocket, she smiled and said, "Make sure these make it to the addressee, and no reading. That's all." After her passport and clearance was checked, Christina hopped on one of the Von Braun's shuttles destined for her offices. The shuttles ran along a monorail network that criss-crossed across the ship. Hers was on a special lane designated only for authorized personnel. She had been in and out of the ship for the past two months and each time she rode the shuttle she couldn't help but look up at the artificial sky. It baffled her really. Why would someone pay all of that money just so they could say they spent a sunny day in the park...in space. She ran her hand through her hair, dreading the amount of drama that would come with this maiden voyage. "Ms. Sijan?" came a female voice from near her. Christina wasn't aware that someone else was in the shuttle with her. It was non other than her boss, Samantha. "You were supposed to be here four hours ago." Samantha Moved to sit down opposite Christina, cradling a laptop in her arms. Christina smirked slightly before speaking, "All of my personnel are in place. If anything I thought I could get a few extra hours shut eye. Have there been any problems?" "No, but there very well could have been, and you not being here would not have helped at all." "My crew is capable of running things without me. If I didn't have full faith in them, I would've been here with the rest of you." "If they're capable of running things without you? Why do we need you again?" Christina, who up until this point had been looking out of the window locked eyes with Samantha. She knew she had crossed a line with Christina, but sternly looked forward. Christina pulled herself together and firmly replied, "It won't happen again." "See that it doesn't." said Samantha. The two of them rode for some time after that, Christina wishing her boss would move. She had a few choice words for young Samantha, but the military taught her one very important lesson. The boss is always right. "How's Patricia?" Christina asked, breaking the silence between them. "Oh, she's as busy as always, she told me to send you her best wishes." Christina exited on D-3, heading towards the Security HQ. It was a mixture of senior offices, a conference room, and lastly a large studio which was nicknamed the War Room. Inside the studio there were monitors everywhere, constantly monitoring all parts of the ship. From the casinos to the park and restaurants, nothing got past the war room. Everything was organized into groups, and then details. Fuse, Christina's right hand man, was over the Floor group, whose major details included casino, park, and hotel. Rufus, her Surveillance group commander, ran similar details from the war room. There was of course, also a Support group, secretaries who handled office work and other matters from inside the security offices, although not organized into rigid details like the rest of the crew that fell under her, they were as vital to the effort as anyone else. Christina, after barking out orders and giving general instructions to her crew, retired to her quarters which were only on the other side of the deck.
