It should never be a problem if you are surrounded by people that aren't interested in anime, just don't talk about TV. Anime is great and all, but if you are watching TV, talking about TV, thinking about TV characters that crazy glowing box is going to dominate your personality. Basically there should be plenty of other things to talk about and if all you want to talk about is anime then you are pretty obsessed.

Also if someone only watched anime on CN, they still can be considered pretty knowledgable about anime since CN has gotten tons of shows in the past few years.

You took a test? I'd like to know where you took that because I need to know how much of a fan I am. You don't have to be obsessed to like anime. It's just like people who are into the media. They tend to always talk about celebrities and stuff. (I know. I had a friend like that). There are a lot of people that consider them cartoons, but if they just give them a chance they might like them. heehee

I just wish all the preps in my school would watch anime. That would make my school alot more interesting.

Hey! I heard that they have whole schools devoted to learning about Japanime! does NE1 know if that's true? That would be lots of fun to go to a school that only talks about anime and anime related things. ANIME RULES!! *sticks up fist* *funny looks from other NON ANIME people*

You live in New York, right? Well, there is always the Big Apple Anime Fest. I have to go across the state to go to my convention. Well... the cool thing about that is that my dad likes anime and he lives where it is. So I always go with him. ^_^ But I think you just missed that anime convention in NY. To bad.

I used to be in a situation like that, but then I moved and almost all of my friends are Otakus. They are crazy and they are in love with different characters. It's just insane, you know? Does anyone else have crazy friends?

SIX, count 'em, my friend. Six anime conventions in New York.

Anyways, no, I'm not 'misunderstood'. [most of the time] I get annoyed when people who've never even looked into the subject think I'm a loser who sits in front of my TV all day watching DBZ and Yugioh. Most people at my school don't know a single thing about anime, except for the fact that they know what DBZ, Pokemon, Yugioh, Sailor Moon, and Digimon are. I heard from my sister, though, that many people from her high school went to AWA [anime weekend atlanta], and they have an anime club there. Thank God for that.

yeah... my dad lives in Missouri and there are alot of anime conventions there. About the obsessive friends thing, I would say I'm pretty obsessive myself. My name sort of gives it away. . . kenshinsbabe. . . also, almost all of my dreams begin with me walking in a cherry blossom forest with Kenshin, and we're walking the cherry blossom forest dirt path. . . you know the one that they always have in the forest that just happens to be there when they need it. . . *heavy sigh* Kenshin. . . *begins daydreaming*

Well. . . It's a little hard to explain. . . it depends on weather it's a good dream or a bad dream. for a good dream, it's animated. I see myself exactly as I am in real life, just with a line around me. . . quite a good drawing of myself image too. It must be like on the Matrix.

kenshinsbabe=crazy.

Lol, just kidding. It would be really awesome if I had dreams where I was anime-style and set in a show like Evangelion or Cowboy Bebop or something.

anime_guy: You can always grovel for two months. ^_~ That's what I did.

I agree with maladjusted. Much like flattery, groveling can get you very far indeed.

I do have friends who are into video games and anime, but all of them are guys. My female friends just think of my interest in VGs and anime as one of my quirks, which I suppose it is. It's a shame, though.... there are times when I'd love to have another fangirl to squeal--er, to discuss things with.

Oh boy my friends didn't even know what anime was! I feel so unique out of my friends, I am basically really the only one who likes anime. They all watch anything else but anime. But I'm different from you, kenshinsbabe. I sit with my friends every day at lunch, but we don't talk about anime. Neither on the bus! (How can we if she doesn't even hardly know about it??)
But my friends still don't watch it, still alone like always.

I missed my friend's birthday party for Anime Weekend Atlanta, practically one of the biggest anime conventions in the southeast.

"Why are you not going to her party?"

"I'm going to an anime convention."

"You're missing a birthday party for a stupid ANIME CONVENTION?"

"....."

"Yeah, I am."

"You're such a loser."

Heh. Well, this was my train of thinking.

Hotel filled with anime in every corner VS. Birthday party.

Cheap anime stuff VS. Getting something for your friend that you don't even like.

:toothy:
That's not a bad way of thinking, now that I think about it! :D It's your friend's fault for being born that day - well, maybe his parents.. :sly: But c'mon, if you are true friends, one day shouldn't make a difference, especially if you are both doing what you enjoy (she/he enjoying his/her b-day, and you not being bummed by a boring b-day party).

Alot of my friends don't watch anime. Only two of them do. We have different lunch times so we can't talk about anime until after school. I'm stuck with the ones who don't watch anime, so whenever I start saying something (I almost always talk about anime), they barely understand a word I'm saying. Does any one have experiences like that?
I totally understand how that feels. Only me and like 3 other people in my school likes anime. (Well, probably more, but it seems like it.) If you so much as mention anime loud enough for the surrounding masses to hear (masses is a cool word), they'll either look at you in total confusion, make fun of you for watching those "stupid cartoons for kids", or give you a weird look.
I wish the masses would just shut up with their half brained insults and either leave me alone or just try and see what's so great. I can bet that if most anyone would just give anime a chance, they'd be hooked. But NOOOOO! America has deemed anything animated is a "cartoon" for kids! :therock: HAH! That's a load of bull.
Most of my friends at school, when I first got into anime, they'd make fun of me, now they'll either ignore me or just sit there and smile blankly and nod randomly. That's worse than being ignored.
Also if I mention that I love Japan or say that I'm going there one day, they'll glare and call me a "**** traitor" What's up with that? They tell me that it's because Japan bombed America. My God! That was a LONG time ago! I think they should just get over it! *sighs and takes calming breaths* Oh well. I'm ranting. I'll shut up. *runs away*
