Flame of Recca

This is a great manga about Recca Hanabishi, a high schooler with the ability to control flames and aspirations of becoming a ninja, meeting Yanagi Sakoshita, a high school girl who has the ability to heal others, and how Recca becomes her shinobi (personal ninja guardian) and the adventures they go out on. I love this anime because it has a very good story line, the characters are very well thought out, and the whole thing about ninjas is a great basis for any story.

My favorite character, Recca, is a cocky, ninja obsessed kid who always rushes into a fight without first thinking it over, the true makings of any anime/manga hero, and usually gets his but kicked until he finds that by removing his tekko (arm guard) he has the power to summon a powerful flame dragon. Now the flame dragon may be all powerful but it has its draw backs, for example, the first time the dragon is summoned Recca is forced to sacrifice his right arm for the dragon to obey him, but he is allowed to keep his arm under the condition he doesn't lose a battle to anyone.

if anyone else has read the manga please tell me about your favorite character and somethings that u have liked about the series.

Flame of Recca was first reccomended to me by a thirty-year-old man in an illegitimate DVD store at a Chinese mall, who was there with his four year old son who kept trying to sneak into the porn section of the store. I guess that's both funny and sort of creepy. Heh.

I find Flame of Recca quite amusing.

The art suits the story quite nicely, and the fact that the main characters are, in fact, school children being ninjas is the kind of thing I find quite fun to read.

It also manages to keep its fanservice decent enough that you don't feel like you're carting around a volume of porn.

Heh.

The thing that I love about Flame of Recca is the ability to transition between serious and funny moments.
When Recca saves Fuko's life at the end of Vol.1 (and accidentaly stripped her down to her skivvies), she and Domon punches Recca for looking at her. Ok, her life was just saved, and now she's beating the hell out of a pubecent young man who just saw her naked.
It's absolutley hilarious.

The series has its downs, too. The artwork will be sloppy, but very rarely has it dipped in quality. The way they put in the blood effects are great, they're very similar to YYH. I'm on Vol.7, and this manga has not failed to grip me with the story.

Fuko is my favorite character because she's "your average 16-year-old wondergirl". Her Fujin attack is awesome. It's like millions of tiny, invisible needles hurled at you in blinding speeds.

This was the first manga that I picked up, and I think that it's pretty good. It's also the first manga where I can watch the anime and say, "wtf, that's not how it was in the manga!"
A good example is how in the manga, Recca knew about his power, but didn't in the anime.
And here I was thinking that those kind of things were myths. :p Not that I like one change over another necessarily, but they could have just kept it how it was.

Anyway, I have the first three volumes, and I can't remember whether I read the third one yet or not. I'll have to look through it sometime. It's a pretty good story, in my opinion, and I like Recca's ninja techniques.

Guest fuujin-sama
wow. o_o this is something! cool!!!! a lot of people here love RnH aka FoR. :D i'm so happy to hear there are a lot of people that like FoR. :D i am and will always be a fan of FoR. basically, it is obvious with the username, neh? :D:D:D

i like, love and idolize Fuuko Kirisawa! all my username, nicks or names is either fuujin or fuuko. i am a devoted wind fan. ^_^ i love the element of wind. that's the first thing that attract me to her. plus her characteristics. her attitude is just like mine. a lot of my friends told me, if there'll be an anime girl that best suits me, that'll be Fuuko-sama. ^_^

oh yeah. i'm somewhat new here. i registered a long time ago but i just manage to post here. hehe. ^_^

The best part for me is when Yanagi turned into fire 'n help recca to defeat the last Madougu.. *hehe* but i'm quite dissapointed when i knew that koganei were going back to the hokage era with kurei.. Hikz.. I love him.. >_<

Thought I'd revive this since it's the manga I started reading lately.

I'm just finished reading chapter 9. And I find it interesting. Started off a tad bit slow. (No where near as slow as Bleach) Flame of Recca has a lot of similarities to Yu Yu Hakusho. (That's a plus because I like YYH over Bleach and Naruto, but I won't get into that here. XD)

Recca = Yusuke and Domon = Kuwabara.

I've only seen 5 important characters, and to say whose my favorite at this point would be pointless. However, Fuuko and Kage Hoshi (sp?) are the ones that've stuck out the most so far.

The artwork is actually a lot better than I thought it'd be. Coming off of reading Bleach (and Death Note a while ago, whose artwork is superb) I've been finding it a little hard to like the artwork of most older series.

One issue though. Main characters fallen for ditzy females, or ditzy females that's so infactuated with the male lead.. It's really tiresome. I know this came out first, but I've already seen this type of thing in Bleach, and now I'm seeing it in Code Geass... I don't really need to see it here. Not that I really care, but I wouldn't mind seeing/reading something where the main male goes after a girl whose not a ditz. (Naruto don't count because he's an idiot. And that's vice versa.)

That little nitpick set aside, this is really interesting. I wouldn't mind seeing the anime version.

Anyone else reading, or have read this? Thoughts?
