If you're an open anime fan, chances are that you've heard plenty of digs at anime in the past "OMG you watch cartoon p0rn!" "So you watch Pokeman? ***." "I hate DBZ and I hate Pokemon!"

What are the worst insults aimed at anime that you've ever heard? It can be aimed at you as an anime fan, at a single anime, or at anime in general.

"Oh, you mean Fooly Gay-y?"

"That stuff's for little kids, preteens, and losers. *plops down and watches reality television on MTV*"

"I've got a level 100 Lionard! I watch Pokemon too!"

Yep, those take the cake.

That isn't an insult. Now if that was "DBZ and Pokemon are the spawn of Satan which will corrupt our children's and our own minds to lead to the appocalypse and anyone with any interest in them or anything made in or slightly related to Japan is a demon! Now on to burning down Sony!", THAT would be an insult.

That's not really an insult, either. It's more of an accusation which is too stupid to take offense at.

Most people who get huffy about people discrediting anime haven't seen enough of it to know those "pr0n!!!" guys are mostly right.

There was one stupid kid who used to go to my school who said,

"What do you call a Jamacan proctologist?... Pokemon!"

The joke wasn't too bad at first, especially since we were in 6th grade at the time, but he overused it way too much, to the point i just hated it. That and i didn't like the kid in the first place.

I am picked on on a daily basis for reading "those backward books".The only other people in my school who actually read and watch them are my friends.I can count the number of people who actually read them on one hand, maybe both.Yep.Me,Ayla,Micheal and Andrew.Liz and Lauren don't count because they just read the preview books released by Tokyo Pop.

And I'm in this bad habit of now carrying around these Pokemon pencils because they sharpen really well and have nice erasers. But everyone makes fun of me.

So,sadly, the worst insult is everything. :animedepr

i got that a lot myself for a while. i didnt really get many insults about it though. i will say though that i actually got one of my friends who 'didnt like' anime/manga to like fruits basket. another person took one look at Negima and said the equivilant of 'OH MY GOD ITS PORN!!' so yeah, mixed comments there. the worst, most constant ragging i ever got was for pokemon though. even now, i still get the pokemon rag ocassionally

I get crap like that all the time. Im basically the only one that I can think of that is really into anime in my neighborhood (which is pretty lonely :animecry: ) They make fun of me for going online to read those "comics", but then they go online to look at tennis shoes. I get most of my criticism from my parents though. They say Im too old for anime, that no matter whats in it, its for little kids.

Luckily, people here in my country eventually loved anime so I don't get insults whatsoever. Back then, when it wasn't popular yet, people were like, 'Anime? o_O"

But yeah, it's all good. People here love anime to bits. :animesmil

I live in the American South, but I got to be friends with alot of the more popular kids at my school, and I got them hooked on Naruto and alot of them watched [adult swim]. Originally, they watched Family Guy, but they got into Trigun and what not, and so most of the boys in my class read manga. Usually, its borrowed from me or my freind Brad, who has the first two volumes of the Trigun manga and a few of us watch [adult swim].

Yeah, sometimes a couple of upperclassmen will make fun of the freshmen watching cartoons, but then again, their the people failing out and what not, and also, alot of upperclassmen are my freinds and watch the stuff. So, the stuff isn't really ridiculed where I live, of all places. People don't take insults seriously where I live anyways, so when me and my freinds are caught having flashback memory conversations about DBZ or something, and someone opens there mouth, my bad mouthed bunch just turns around and say "******* you" in simily, and it stops about there.

Lucky, I guess. Small towns need things to do, and I guess anime and manga are one of those few things as alternatives to playing paintball (which I do) and four-wheeling. The worst thing I've heard from a person is "Dude, you guys read comic books..." Or "Ha, you still watch cartoons..."

The insult I got was not really meant to be an insult, but is an insult:
"You watch Pokemon? Isn't that the cartoon that kills its fans? :( "
First of all, Pokemon is an anime, not a cartoon! :animeangr
Secondly, it caused seigures in just one of its episodes. Don't judge the whole anime just becuse of one little episode!
And I don't think no one died...
By the way... Did I spell 'seigure' right? :animeswea

*reads boxybrown's comment* Pokemon... XD That's priceless.

I have to go with the animated porn insult. That's the worst one in my book. The moment people know you like anime, they think you are into animated porn. It's not even like, if you watch movies, they think you are into porno movies. I doubt the demographic is that bad that most anime fans are hentai fans.

I'm not arguing about the validity of porn or hentai, but I don't think there's a strong correlation with anime and hentai to warrant an immediate connection, such that if a person watches anime, he most certainly enjoys hentai.

Finally someone got it!

I posted that assuming this was about actual jokes about anime. This has quickly turned to anime insults, in which case i get none. Similar to Mugen i guess, either a lot of people at my school like anime/manga or no one cares (it's a mix of both). If the question arises, i say yeah i like anime, and the response is most likely, "that's cool, that's cool..." Fairly laid back. And i am an upperclassman, along with many of my anime loving friends, so we have no trouble with class.

Anime and cartoons are nearly the exact same thing. Anime is just another word used to describe cartoons made in Japan. So all animes are cartoons, but not all cartoons are anime. Simple as that.
Most people who get huffy about people discrediting anime haven't seen enough of it to know those "pr0n!!!" guys are mostly right.
No, they aren't right. Yes, there is hentai, but it takes up a very small pecentage of anime. While there is a sizeable amount of hentai, there's just as much, if not more pornography in American media. And people who think nudity equals pornography are wrong. There's a big difference between the statue of David and Playboy Magazine. Seeing Ranma bathing or Goku running around naked is more on the statue of David end of the spectrum than the Playboy Magizine end. So those "pr0n!!!" guys are hardly right at all.

I don't know about that. You still have
bukkake
* which involves no penetration but still is very porn.

I'm not really bugged about this one but I see it often:
Narutard: someone obsessed with Naruto and mentions/relates to the series in most of his/her posts.

It's an insult directed to anime fans by anime fans who forgot that they once had an obsession of equal intensity to a similar series.

* Spoiler tagged for PG-13 discretion.

It's not that simple! Sure, they are all cartoons, but animes are cartoons made in Japan. That's the difference! When people say that animes are cartoons, all the animes become American, when they are Japanese. That's breaking copy write laws!

Anyway, I need to go and calm down now... Bye :catgirl:

Anime is short for animation. Technically, any piece of media that's hand-drawn or made with CG programs is anime.

But the way that we use it in America, anime is another way of saying cartoons from Japan or as they apparently used to call it before it got popular, "Japanimation".

Lesee, I've gotten:

"Anime? Like that Sailor Moon crap?"
Yes, genius, because everyone in anime runs around in a super-short skirt and throws love magic at people. Didn't you see that episode of DBZ? Man, Goku looked fine in that man-skirt.

I get more insults from within the anime community. A lot of guys/girls feel the need to outright state that they're not gay. Most guys in my local anime club refuse to watch anything with even mild homosexuality in it because they're afraid to catch "gay." I'm always super-insulted because a lot of my friends are gay. I would think that anime fans would be more open minded. I'm slightly disappointed.
