Thank you. ^_~ As for your assumption about the RPG, you are correct. It is the area where people get together to do stories where they all take part in it. Seeing how much you yourself love to read you might actually enjoy being in one. I?ve got plenty of characters in mind so you?re welcome to be a part of it when I start mine. Though truthfully it?s going to be a while as I still haven?t finished working out some of the details with indifference yet.
Well that?s certainly an interesting idea. It just seems so weird as I?ve never done anything like that or even attempted to write stories as you have done here. I think my writing skills are rather lacking as well. I?ll certainly think about it though. And since you?re not ready anyway I can pester you with more questions when I see you again.

As for the story, good job with the chapter. I?m starting to feel sorry for poor Jason. So like indifference mentioned earlier?keep the chapters coming. After all, unlike some of your other readers I have not read the previous version so I?m still in the dark here!

Though truthfully it?s going to be a while as I still haven?t finished working out some of the details with indifference yet.
Yeah I really need to finish writing up the character backgrounds and send them to you. But I assume that since you are going on vacation in just a bit that you plan on waiting until after that at least so I still have time.

As for Aaryanna_Mom, take pity on her and give her the link to where the rest is posted so she doesn?t have to wait. Though the format here is much easier to read and even though it?s been awhile since I?ve read it I know that for myself I?d rather wait and read it with the improvements as it?s easier to follow. So keep up the good work. ;)

Especially since I don?t have all the details ready. And even if I did rush to get them ready it would be kind of stupid to start something and then disappear for an entire week and leave everyone hanging.

Chapter Eleven:

Celestia woke up to the sound of the cell door opening. It was the alien with shoulder length silver blonde hair and striking features that she remembered seeing during her interrogation. She moved to get up but the alien came over and sat down on the side of the bed facing her.

?Don?t bother to get up Celestia,? he said. ?I want to ask you a few questions.?

Celestia pulled her legs up until she was sitting with her legs crossed facing the alien. She was struck by how beautiful, yet cold his eyes were. She felt like a tiny mouse facing a cat. The alien waited until she finished positioning herself before speaking again.

?The Commander and our computer specialist both feel that you posses skills that would be useful to us. Your assistant Jason is currently being tested to see if he posses any useful skills as well,? he paused and somehow Celestia knew he was watching to see her reaction to what he said about Jason. Celestia felt cold; somehow she knew that if she made an issue of Jason?s safety it would be a mistake with this person. She remained silent. The alien smiled and continued, ?What I need you to do is clarify your relationship with your assistant for me. Your notes in your files indicate that he functioned as a full assistant and even assisted in creating some of your programs and information, like the energy signature to disrupt our nervous systems.?

Celestia answered, ?That?s correct. I hired him because he did have the skills necessary to actually assist in the calculations. I also hired him as he had extensive programming knowledge and the necessary office skills to properly prepare reports on everything we were working on. I?m not very good at writing reports.?

The alien watched her for a moment and then continued. ?How do you feel about your assistant Jason?? He said. Celestia hesitated; she wasn?t sure how to respond. She did find Jason attractive, but they didn?t have a relationship beyond work.

She looked down at her hands and replied, ?There is no relationship beyond our working together.? Celestia didn?t even have a chance to react as the alien backhanded her with such force that her head slammed painfully into the wall. Before she could even register what had just happened he had reached over and grabbed her hair behind her head and pulled her towards him until their faces were inches apart.

?Don?t lie to me Celestia,? he said, ?Your eyes tell me a different story.? The alien held up a small device for Celestia to see. ?Do you know what this is?? He asked her.

Celestia whispered, ?no.?

The alien smiled cruelly. ?It?s a disruptor, don?t be fooled by its small size. It?s almost as effective as the one the commander used on you the other day.?

Celestia shuddered involuntarily as she remembered all too well how painful the interrogation had been the other day.

The alien smiled and said, ?Now tell me how you really feel about Jason unless you think I should be asking him instead.?

The look in his eyes when he mentioned Jason sent a shiver of fear running through her, Celestia didn?t hesitate this time, ?I find Jason attractive and I?m pretty sure he is attracted to me as well. Though we haven?t acted on it or actually discussed it with each other.? She said.

He released her and Celestia fought the urge to move away. The alien leaned back and said, ?next time you lie to me I won?t be as forgiving.?

He got up and walked over to the cell door. He stopped, turned around and said, ?My name is Jared. I?m second in command on this ship and as of now you answer to me.? Before Celestia could respond Jared continued, ?Several of my men will be taking you to Nathan who will test you to see what you are capable of.? He paused for a moment and continued, ?I suggest you cooperate, though there are other more entertaining methods of obtaining the information we want should you choose to be difficult. I?ll let you decide.? Jared smiled and left.

Once the cell door closed Celestia leaned back against the wall. She fought the urge to cry as intense feelings of despair and hopelessness filled her. No matter how she looked at it, she couldn?t see a way out of this predicament that she had gotten Jason and herself into. Celestia had wanted to ask about Jason, but she had been too frightened of Jared to ask. Just what did Jared mean by being tested? She hoped that Jason was okay. Well as okay as anyone could be in a situation like this.

Celestia pulled her legs up and rested her chin on her knees. Ironically if her dreams were accurate she already knew the layout of the ship and just what to do to destroy it. So far every detail from her dream had been accurate regarding the aliens. Or should she be calling them Versilians since in her dreams they referred to themselves as being from the planet Versilan. Celestia had changed the name to Silver One because in the dreams all of them had silver colored eyes. The only thing she had encountered that hadn?t been in her dreams was the mysterious door of light. She had a guess as to how it worked, but she hadn?t seen one in any of her dreams. Did that mean it was a more recent development?

Celestia leaned back, resting her head against the wall. When the dreams had first started twelve years ago they were so vivid and detailed that she finally built a proto type of the holographic program. She had been surprised when it had actually worked. She had been even more surprised when no one had been able to duplicate a program written by a mere fifteen-year-old girl. She became wealthy literally overnight.

Encouraged by that success she had began to work on the next level by making the images solid. It took ten years, as she had to write the specifics for the hardware to support it, as nothing existed that could produce the solid images. Again she was surprised when her idea worked. She had invested quite a bit of money into making the new technology. It never occurred to her that the information on how to actually create such stuff could have come from another world altogether! She had assumed that dreams was simply a way for her mind to tell her how to do things.

Celestia had read that geniuses often heard whispers in their mind telling them the answers to complex problems. So she assumed that for her the method of how her mind worked was dreams. Even to this day she still had vivid dreams about the Versilans and about other technological ideas here on Earth. Though truthfully around seventy percent of the dreams were about the Versilans. Celestia had written down notes about every idea she had for a new technology or device. She could reproduce it from memory if needed, but she had taken to putting her ideas down when they occurred as she had so many of them. She had built a special computer just to hold the files and she kept it securely locked up in a safe built into her bank?s home office location. She had her own personal office there that she used whenever she wanted to work on her computer; even the program to access the safe had been built by her.

Celestia?s train of thoughts was interrupted as two guards entered the cell. One of them was holding a set of restraints. Celestia got up off the bed and turned her back to them. She held her hands behind her back as she was certain they were there to take her somewhere. When she felt one of the guards placing the restraints on her wrists she knew her assumption had been correct. She turned around and waited for the guard to tell her what to do. He turned to leave so she meekly followed him.

As they were taking her through the ship she recognized where they were going. If her dreams were correct they were heading to the main workroom for the ship?s computer specialist. The entered a large room that looked surprisingly like the control room in her building where she had built Silver One. There were obvious differences, but she could clearly see the similarities. An older man with silver gray hair was already there. The guards removed the restraints and took up positions by the door.

?Please come here Celestia and take a seat,? the man said. He had a kind expression on his face and for some reason Celestia felt as if she knew him from somewhere. He looked a lot like one of the Versilans from her dream but that alien had been much younger, or at least looked much younger. She walked forward and sat down at the console as he requested.

?My name is Nathan, and I?m the computer specialist. I want you to take some tests to help me determine what you understand,? he said. Celestia watched as Nathan did something to change the information on the monitor to English. Nathan continued, ?Please answer to the best of your ability and be sure to explain what parts of the questions you don?t understand, okay??

Celestia just nodded her head and turned her attention to the first question. Now that she saw the alien up closer she decided it was highly unlikely he was the same one from her dream. He did look a lot like the one in her dream, but he had been called Daniel, not Nathan. And she found it hard to believe someone who was only twenty in her dream could age so much in just twelve years. After twelve years of dreams she decided it was no surprise that she had run into someone who resembled one of the aliens from her dreams.

Now as for the story, I see that you are starting to build more upon Jared?s personality, I am beginning to see more of how he seems to enjoy toying with others. And I liked the bit where Celestia was thinking about how she had come up with her ideas and the technology. It gives the story a bit more backbone as now you have some history as to how things got to where they are now.

I also liked the hint about Nathan and how he looked so similar. I know that if a Daniel enters the scene it will most likely be someone from the other world that Celestia has actually met. In fact I?m getting some ideas as to what you might have done and I?m now curious to see if any of my ideas are right. So keep posting! :catgirl:

Oh and by the way, your new banner and avatar is adorable. That's the same game that Aaryanna has been playing right?

Chapter twelve:

The next three weeks seemed like an eternity to Jason. Day after day he was run through test after test. And some days after working with Nathan he was then put through additional interrogations. Sometimes it was just simple questions, other times they injected him with drugs that had him remembering every little detail of his life from when he was just a child. It was like they were looking for something but he didn?t know what. They were gathering information that made no sense to him. Some of the drugs even made it possible for him to recite conversations that happened years ago word for word! Jason was also puzzled, as Jared seemed to disappear. At first every time his cell door opened he had expected to see him. Yet for the past three weeks he hadn?t seen him at all.

Jason was relieved that he seemed to have lost interest in him, yet the memories of Jared from his first two days of captivity haunted him and he couldn?t shake the feeling that one day he find himself at his mercy again. Jason wondered if his sister felt the same way about the man who had been stalking her. Did she still feel such fear even though it had been a long time since he had bothered her? Jason tried to put it out of his mind but he found he couldn?t. It was especially bothersome during some of the interrogations as there was one particular drug they used on him that had side effects that he would rather die than be experiencing around Jared. Those sessions were the worst as the whole time the drug was affecting him he was terrified Jared would show up to take advantage of the situation.

The only thing that kept Jason from feeling like he would go mad was Nathan. The alien had turned out to be more like a father figure than someone trying to enslave his planet. Jason still wasn?t allowed to see Celestia and Nathan had made a point of telling Jason every time he saw him how she was doing. Jason was wary of him being friendly at first but he did something the other day that convinced him Nathan sincerely cared about Celestia?s and his welfare.

A few days after he had been brought on board the aliens had placed a metal band one inch wide around his neck, wrists, and ankles. Apparently they were some type of disruptor device similar to the one that had been used to torture Celestia the very first day they had been captured. He had been informed that they were programmed to turn on if he wandered into areas of the ship he didn?t have clearance to be in. He was still escorted around the ship and his cell door was kept locked, but they no longer bound his hands when he was escorted from one area to another area of the ship. He found out one day just how effective the devices were.

Jason had been taken to another session of testing with Nathan, but he hadn?t arrived yet. The guards left him in the computer control room and ordered him to go to a side room to wait for Nathan. Other than to watch him enter as the door would automatically lock once it closed the guards didn?t stay as they had other things to attend to. Unfortunately the side room had not been cleared for Jason to be in, he had taken only two steps in when the door closed behind him, locking him in. A split second later he collapsed from the excruciating pain caused by the electrical energy from the disruptors. He found he couldn?t even move or cry out for help.

It seemed like an eternity before Nathan opened the door and found him there. Jason knew Nathan couldn?t turn the devices off so he was surprised when Nathan quickly picked him up and carried him back into the other room causing the pain to stop immediately. He vaguely remembered Nathan cursing as he called the doctor down to the control room before he passed out. Later when he came too he found himself in a bed in the medical bay.

Celestia couldn?t believe that four weeks had already passed. She would have thought by now that the testing and interrogations would have finished. Several things bothered her, as they didn?t seem right. Although Nathan was kind enough to tell her how Jason was doing she still had not been allowed to see him. It just didn?t make sense that they wouldn?t allow her to see him She wasn?t too happy about the disruptor devices they had put on her either, as she couldn?t remove them.

Then one week ago they removed them only to replace them with new ones, no explanation was given as to why they switched them. Jared was strangely absent and some of the drugs they used during the interrogations caused side effects that really bothered her. Celestia had heard of drugs that could stimulate a person in that manner, though she had never experienced it before. Just thinking about it made her feel uncomfortable. But what really bothered her most was about a week ago Nathan quit telling her about how Jason was doing and though she really wanted to know what had happened she didn?t want to ask him. Part of her was afraid that something had happened to Jason and she was afraid to find out.

What really bothered her was the nature of the interrogations led her to believe that they were searching for a resistance cell down on Earth. If her dreams were accurate then if there wasn?t one there now, there had been one in the past. Celestia even got the impression that they were making sure there wasn?t a resistance cell operating on the ship. If there were inconsistencies in their stories it would give them a place to start investigating. Perhaps that was why her and Jason had been kept apart since they were captured.

Celestia sighed to herself, the only bit of information she had managed to keep to herself was how she got the information to be able to write her programs. Somehow she got the impression that she didn?t want them to know she got it from her dreams. She found that even with the drugs she could phrase it along the lines that she saw the images in her mind of what to do. Celestia didn?t know why, but she got the impression that if they knew it came from dreams she would regret it. She had also been able to honestly say that almost everyone on the ship resembled the images in her mind.

Celestia still had the nagging feeling that she knew Nathan from somewhere and she didn?t want them to know about it. Nathan and the ships doctor Crystal were the only two people on the ship that didn?t frighten her. She didn?t want to be reassigned to someone like Jared. Just the thought of him caused her to shudder. Celestia had only spoken with him once and although she knew it was unlikely, she hoped she never saw him again. She had seen movies and read books that spoke of people who enjoyed hurting others and how they profoundly affected the people who ran into them. Celestia had dismissed such encounters as nonsense. Now she knew better.

She hated to admit it, but she knew that until now her ability and money had protected her from most of the problems other people encountered on a daily basis. The only grief she had experience before was when her mother died and she was put in an orphanage, as she had no living relatives. But she had only been four and truthfully she barely remembered her mother. So that hadn?t been too difficult as she had never experienced anything different. Celestia lay down on the bed in her cell not bothering to change into the nightgown that had been provided for her. She turned so she was facing the wall and cried herself to sleep.

I really like this chapter as you get a little more insight as to how both Celestia and Jason feel. The only problem I see is this statement here:
It just didn?t make sense that they wouldn?t allow her to see him.
Although it is fine, you later contradict it a bit here:
It explained why her and Jason had been kept apart. If there were inconsistencies in their stories it would give them a place to start investigating.
I think a little re-wording would help to make it clearer. For example you could change the second part to ?If there were inconsistencies in their stories it would give them a place to start investigating. Perhaps that was why her and Jason had been kept apart since they were captured.?

See what I mean? I think it would flow a little better if you clarified that part. Anyway, keep up the good work and keep the chapters coming! ^_^

Thanks Aaryanna, I hadn?t noticed it but you?re right the statements did contradict each other. So I changed it to what you suggested. ^_~

Chapter thirteen:

Jared maneuvered the shuttlecraft into the hanger bay and landed the craft with his usual skill and preciseness; he began shutting the systems down while the bay doors shut and the bay finished pressurizing. His teams had found abandoned transmitters left by the resistance cell that had been on Earth. Jared had never imagined it would take him an entire month to track down the location of the relay transmitters set up on other planets in this solar system. Who ever had set them up was one of the best resistance operators Jared had ever tracked. Now that the relay transmitters had been destroyed he had sent the order for the one?s on Earth to be destroyed as well.

Jared turned his attention to the report on Jason and Celestia?s testing and further interrogations. Other than the mishap with Jason and the disruptor devices the biological testing, educational testing and probing of their memories was pretty much complete. He had been carefully following each report as it was sent to him even though there had been very little in the way of clues to help him track down information on the resistance cell that had been on Earth. Other than Celestia there was no one on Earth who understood his type of technology. Or at least not on a level that indicated that they too had been educated by the resistance at one time.

If the resistance had put her through enhanced learning they had made sure to erase her memory of them teaching her, the fact that she had built a game that was so accurate probably meant that part of her memory had not been erased as the resistance had thought. The lack of other people on her world who understood his technology indicated to him that the resistance had probably given up on educating the people there. Jared had seen this done before on other worlds as well, not all races were able to absorb enhanced learning. It wasn?t the first time the resistance had tried this particular tactic.

Jared shut the screen down and left the shuttle. He pulled out his hand held device and continued to review the reports. According to Nathan, Celestia had the potential to outshine even some of the greatest minds on Versilan. Nathan also indicated that although Jason clearly lacked Celestia?s skills he was well matched to work as her assistant and still smart enough to actually be useful. Jared smiled at that. It didn?t really matter one way or the other, but he found it more enjoyable when those who interested him were smart.

Jared felt a thrill of excitement, he was glad to be back. Duty always came first, but he was really looking forward to Jason?s reaction when he realized he had returned. According to the doctor Jason had completely recovered. Nathan?s quick reaction in moving Jason had saved him from permanent nerve damage. According to the doctor she had made modifications to the disruptor restraints to account for the humans different nervous system structure, but when the assistant went to put the restraints on them he had taken the wrong ones. It wasn?t until the incident with Jason that anyone realized a mistake had been made. Jared saw in the notes that the assistant had been properly disciplined for his mistake. If Jason had not recovered, well, Jared would have made sure he never made another mistake again.

Sandra turned to look when Jared entered the bridge, ?Ah Jared, welcome back.? She said. ?I trust you have reviewed all the reports regarding Celestia and Jason??

?Yes commander, I have. I was just thinking that now that all the testing and memory probing is complete that it would prove informative to finally allow the two of them to see each other.?

Sandra got up and started walking back and forth in front of her chair; ?Agreed, I was just thinking along the same lines. I?ve received orders to make use of Celestia?s ability and keeping Jason alive will help insure her cooperation. We could use other techniques, but the doctor has advised me that we would run the risk of damaging her mind.? Sandra paused for a moment and then continued, ?Nathan has been quite effective in getting their cooperation. He may be too soft, but he has managed to gain a small measure of their trust.?

Jared frowned a bit, ?Nathan is a fool, though I won?t argue that his methods can be effective. I assume you wish for me to make the arrangements regarding Celestia and Jason??

?Yes, as of now they will be your responsibility again. Once the reality sets in that they will never be returning to Earth, your methods of insuring cooperation will be far more effective than anything Nathan could do.? Sandra sat back down, smiled at Jared and said, ?Besides, I told you that you could have Jason when I was finished. And I always keep my word. Think of it as a bonus for all the hard work you have done lately. Nathan did say that Jason would be a good assistant for Celestia, but frankly I see no reason to keep him alive just for that.?

Sandra tilted her head to the left for a moment thinking on how to phrase what she wanted to say; she leaned forward a bit and continued, ?I won?t dictate how you choose to amuse yourself, other than I want you to be careful as I do want him to remain alive as an incentive for Celestia?s continued cooperation.?

Jared smiled, ?Of course Commander.? He turned to leave the bridge to go to his quarters but stopped at the door and turned back to speak with the Commander again. ?I forwarded my recommendations to you about the investigation regarding a resistance cell here on Earth.?

Sandra turned her chair until she was facing him and replied, ?Yes, I?ve read through the report and I agree. The probability of a cell still being in operation here is quite slim. Now that you have destroyed their communication?s network I agree with you that it would be wise to stick around for a few weeks and watch for any changes that would indicate they are still here. I?ve received orders from High Command that the invasion here is being postponed for the moment, as there are some disturbing developments on other less developed worlds. They have decided to split the fleet into squads and send them to crush the resistance cells that have been springing up in quite a few places. Our orders are to investigate this area of space further as it looks like they may have actually set up a base on one of the planets in the system just after this one. You have two weeks to finish the investigation here and then we are to move on and investigate the next system.?

Jared bowed and said, ?Understood commander, I?ll add a few more teams to the investigation to make sure we are finished by the deadline.?

Jared left the bridge and pulled out his hand-held device. He input the changes to the current investigation and then turned it off and put it back into his pocket. Now that the changes had been issued he could clean up and get some rest. Although their shuttles were quite comfortable, compared to the main ship it was almost primitive. He preferred his spacious quarters on the main ship, as there were so many comforts that there just wasn?t room for on a shuttle. Jared was looking forward to a long hot soak in a real bathtub instead of a quick shower and sleeping on a bed big enough for two was a luxury he greatly missed.

Not to mention the other devices he kept for when he had company. Jared smiled when he thought about what the Commander said regarding keeping Jason alive. He had been too hard on his diversions in the past, but he now found it more useful to keep them alive instead of killing them when he grew bored with them. And he had been pleasantly surprised to realize that after being away for a while the same desire and interest would return. It gave him more pleasure to see people avoid him, as they didn?t know when they would catch his interest again, than killing them ever had.

No the Commander didn?t have to worry about him killing Jason. He was the first alien Jared had ever been attracted to. He was going to take his time with this one. Being gone for a month had been extremely difficult as he constantly found himself thinking about Jason, something that had never happened before with any of his previous captives. Jared smiled to himself; he would never let Jason go, ever.

Definitely quite the stalker that one. I think it would be terrible in real life, but it?s interesting to read about in a fictional story. Creepy but interesting. Makes me glad your story is rated PG-13, though considering that most PG-13 movies are far worse than rated R ones use to be I?m not sure if I?m comforted by that fact. :animesigh

Anyway, keep up the good work, it definitely is starting to get more interesting. I'm tempted to demand the other source as now you have me curious as to how Jason reacts to Jared's return. ;)

Chapter fourteen:

Nathan sighed. Now that Jared had finished tracking down all the relay transmitters he had set up and destroyed them it had become extremely difficult to keep in contact with the resistance as it was far more dangerous to use the ships transmitters. It had been a fine line to walk, as he had been required to assist Jared in the calculations to actually trace the transmissions being relayed from the transmitters on Earth. Nathan had finally incorporated the calculations into part of the testing for Celestia. It had amazed him at how quickly she had managed to find them.

Using her skill had kept Jared from realizing he had originally set up the transmitters, but unless something was done her ability could be a serious problem for the resistance. Somehow he had to get both her and Jason to the resistance! Even if it meant he had to reveal that he was a member himself. Nathan had already received orders from the Commander regarding the next mission. He was to begin searching for a base built by the resistance. Although he didn?t actually know the location of the base he did know the exact frequencies to hunt for. He hated to do it but he would have to use Celestia again. He had already sent the request for a ship to be waiting for them in the next system. If things went according to plan he hoped to escape with both Celestia and Jason.

Jason wondered how much longer they were going to keep him in the sick bay. Crystal had already told him that he would make a full recovery and yet they kept him here. It wasn?t like he had anything better to do but at least when he was working with Nathan he could concentrate on trying to understand their technology. He could even forget his predicament for a short time while he was working. It frustrated him to be stuck here.

Jason knew that he had to work hard. If it was just him he wouldn?t care what happened, but if he didn?t work hard and Celestia needed him he would never be able to forgive himself. He adjusted the bed so he was in a sitting position. How much longer are they going to keep me here? He wondered. The door to the room Jason was in opened and the ship?s doctor Crystal walked in.

?Ah, good you?re awake,? She said. ?I think you are ready to be released from sick bay. But before that I have a surprise for you.? Crystal stepped aside and motioned to someone outside the door. When Celestia walked into the room he couldn?t tell who was more speechless, him or her. The doctor smiled, ?I?ll leave you two alone as I?m sure you have a lot to discuss.? With that she left the room, the door closing automatically behind her.

Celestia and Jason stared at each other as if they both couldn?t believe what they saw. Jason started to get up but Celestia beat him to it by flying across the room and into his arms. To his surprise Celestia was crying. Jason wrapped his arms around her and held her close while she cried. At that moment Jason knew he cared for her and would do anything he could for her. Before he would have been embarrassed to cry in front of anyone but now he couldn?t stop the tears and didn?t want to, he no longer cared.

After a while Celestia pulled away from Jason and composed herself, ?I?ve been so worried about you, the doctor told me what happened, are you okay?? She asked.

Jason smiled, ?Yes, but more importantly how are you doing?? He asked.

Celestia sighed, ?Better now that I know you are okay. I was worried that they were going to kill you.? She paused for a minute and continued, ?I?m really sorry I got you into this mess.?

Jason replied, ?It?s not your fault, there?s no way you could have known this would happen.?

Celestia sighed, ?I?m still sorry anyway.?

Jason hugged Celestia close again and said, ?As long as you are alright nothing else matters.?

Jared watched through the observation window as Jason and Celestia met again for the first time since they had been brought on board the ship. He smiled as he saw how emotional they both were, his instincts about how they felt towards another was correct.

Crystal walked up to where Jared was standing. ?Here?s the report you requested, it will require further study but humans appear to be compatible with genetic enhancements. I may even be able to change their aging cycle to match ours as humans only live seventy to one hundred years compared to our three hundred,? the doctor said. She handed the data pad to Jared. He looked at it briefly and then copied the report into his own handheld device before handing it back to the doctor.

Crystal continued, ?Jason is completely recovered, however since I had to rebuild some of his nervous system he will be quite sensitive to outside stimulation for the next couple of weeks. I?ll release him from sickbay but without any disruptor restraints. Even with the modification made to account for his system, another incident could destroy the newly rebuilt nerves, though if you wish to continue using the restraints he should be fine after a few weeks.? She paused for a moment and continued, ?I?ve never questioned your requests for certain drugs sub-commander, but it is my duty to inform you that using them could also destroy his nerves, it would be better to wait just to be safe. I intend to follow up with weekly checkups which I will forward to you.?

Jared smiled and replied, ?Understood doctor.? He continued to watch as Jason and Celestia chatted with each other. He would follow the doctor?s advice as she was like him in the respect that duty always came first. She never let her feelings come before her patient?s welfare, even when he was the patient. He would never forget the first day they met. He had been injured on a mission and when he had been brought into sick back the first thing she had done was lecture him on how the drugs he used on his diversions and himself were detrimental to his performance. At first he had been furious until she showed him the results of her scans.

To his utter surprise she had then proceeded to lecture him on what combinations of drugs he could use on himself to get the same results without the side effects. She had also lectured him at length about other aspects regarding how he amused himself. Some of what she said he didn?t agree with but he had been so surprised by her blunt manner that he had come to respect her skill as a doctor. When he had been promoted to serve under Sandra he had requested that the doctor be transferred with him. Jared preferred crewmembers that were not afraid to tell him all the facts, even if they made him look foolish.

Crystal spoke again, ?I?m also recommending that these two be transferred to officer quarters. There are two rooms down the hall from yours, which would be ideal as they would be unable to leave without passing your door. I?ve taken the liberty of having the engineers install a lock on their doors that only you, the commander and me will be able to control. Humans don?t recover as well as we do and their recent scans show quite a bit of wear and tear from the stress. I?ve already spoken with the officers occupying those quarters and they have agreed to move to make room for the humans. I?ve made sure that although their new quarters are smaller that they have been provided with access to some of the better equipment to make up for the loss in space.?

Crystal handed Jared another data pad with her recommendations in it. She continued, ?I have also explained to the Commander my recommendations as well. She has left the final decision up to you. I realize giving them such quarters may seem excessive, but I?m concerned that their bodies are showing so much stress. I want to make sure the poor living conditions in the tiny cells are not contributing to the problem.? Once again the doctor paused and then continued, ?Unless you object, in a little bit I intend to have them moved to their new quarters.?

Jared looked up from the data pad Crystal had given him and said, ?Very well doctor, finish making the preparations for the transfer.? He handed the pad back to the doctor and then turned to continue watching Jason and Celestia.

I think I?m beginning to see more of why the others were referring to Jared as being mean.

I'm tempted to demand the other source as now you have me curious as to how Jason reacts to Jared's return. ;)
If you knew what she had in mind you might not be curious anymore. As later on in the story it gets more interesting. I assure you, we aren?t referring to Jared as a mean little shit for nothing. SunfallE may not give every little detail when it comes down to it, but she definitely makes sure you know exactly what is going on. If she gave all the details this would definitely be rated mature instead of just PG-13.

Even though I want to play his character when she does the RPG I know I for one will be glad to see Jared
die a slow and painful death. Even though she probably won?t write it like that, he still needs to die.
Anyway, you know it?s about to get more interesting SunfallE so get cracking on the modifications and keep posting! ;) Also, unless I?m mistaken, did you add a few sentences in this? It just seems to flow a little better than I remember it. But without actually comparing the two I?m not sure.

She?s right though. Other than a little bit, I tend to leave the more graphic details out. And since there are certain implications in this story, for that reason it has to at least be rated PG-13. But yeah, Jared is definitely one mean little shit. He originally didn?t have much of a role in this story, but he sort of took over and became a major character instead. The more I wrote the more he kept creeping in! LOL! ^_~
Also, unless I?m mistaken, did you add a few sentences in this? I played with the conversation between Jared and the doctor a little as I felt it was a bit forced.

Chapter fifteen:

Celestia knew that she was attracted to Jason, but until the moment she saw him again for the first time after being captured, she didn?t realize that she cared for him as well. After telling him everything that had happened to her in the last month she decided she wasn?t going to hide it. Celestia moved back next to Jason and laid her head on his left shoulder. She saw the brief look of surprise on his face when she did so. She snuggled closer, sighed and closed her eyes. Celestia smiled a bit when she felt Jason reach up and wrap his arms around her.

She thought about what Jason had told her. Apparently he had been tested and run through the same interrogations they had done to her. She wondered if he had been subjected to the same drug that she found uncomfortable because of how it stimulated you. Celestia also wondered what Jared had done to Jason, when she had mentioned his name Jason had shuddered and looked away. She thought he had looked frightened, but she wasn?t sure. She pushed the thought from her mind. The Versilan?s might never allow her to see Jason again and she didn?t want to spoil their time together by dwelling on their situation.

Celestia didn?t even realize she had dozed off in Jason?s arms until she felt him stiffen and clutch her protectively. When she opened her eyes she saw that Jason was looking towards the door. Never had she seen such a terrified look on his face. Celestia turned and when she saw what had frightened Jason she felt cold all over. Instinctively she tried to move backwards and as a result she slipped and fell off the side of the bed to land on the floor. Terrified she watched as Jared walked over towards her. To her surprise he reached over and helped her stand back up.

Jared smiled and said, ?The doctor tells me that the tests on you two are complete. On her recommendation and as a reward for cooperating I?ve decided to move both of you to better quarters as you both will be coming with us when we leave this system.? Jared paused for a moment and continued, ?I?ll also remove the disruptor restrains and arrange it so your time working with Nathan is together. I suggest you both continue to cooperate as you will never be allowed to return to Earth.?

Celestia paled at the thought of never being allowed to go home. She had known it would come to this, but it still hurt to hear it. The door opened again and several guards entered. Jason?s disruptor restraints had already been removed and one of the guards came over and removed the ones fastened to Celestia.

?Follow me,? Jared said.

Both Celestia and Jason followed Jared out of the sickbay flanked by the two guards who had entered. He took them to the new quarters for Celestia first. When the door opened Celestia was surprised at how spacious and luxurious the new quarters were. It was more like a small apartment with a living room. There appeared to be a small terminal for ordering food, there was a table with several chairs next to it. There were two sofas and several footstools and she could see doors to two additional rooms. One of the rooms was a spacious bathroom with an actually bathtub big enough for two people. And the bedroom hosted a huge bed big enough for two people as well!

Jared took them through the room explaining how things worked. In the main front room there was a huge screen on one wall that could be used to display their current location in space or a mural of their choosing or it could be used with the computer workstation in the corner as a bigger screen if they wished. Celestia wondered if she would actually be allowed access to the computer system.

Jared smiled to himself as he watched Celestia and Jason?s puzzled expressions. Once again the doctor impressed him. Not just because he would enjoy having Jason so close to him but also because the better quarters would effectively remove some of the feelings of being a prisoner. As an expert interrogator he knew the effect of being treated more like an equal would unbalance them and make it harder for them on an emotional level. Especially once they realized that the only one on the ship with better quarters was the Commander.

?For now only the Commander, Doctor and I will be able to open your door. Continued cooperation will result in that restriction being lifted as well. For today you both will be left in your quarters, take time to explore them so you will know where everything is. Everything has already been provided for you. You will even be allowed limited access to the computer system,? Jared turned to face Jason and continued, ?Your quarters will be the one next to this one, other than a few of the colors it is identical to this one.? Jared turned to leave and his two guards motioned to Jason to follow.

Celestia watched as the door shut behind them when they left. She felt uneasy about Jason being alone with Jared, though she wasn?t sure if it was because she was worried about what he would do to him or if it was because she didn?t want to be separated from him. On some level she had wanted him to stay even if it meant sharing the same quarters. Celestia sat down on one of the sofas. Maybe later she would explore the quarters more, right now she was feeling too confused by the sudden change of the restraints being removed and being assigned to quarters that to her seemed way to luxurious even for an officer.

When Jared dismissed the two guards and Jason realized it meant they were alone while Jared showed him around the new quarters, he nearly fainted. Although it had been a month since he last saw Jared, Jason realized that being near him was worse than it was before. He was beyond terrified and honestly wondered how his heart could keep going. If he had realized just how terrible it had been for his sister when the stalker plagued her he would have hunted the man down and killed him. No one should ever have to be tormented like this. Even if Jared never touched him, though he doubted that he would be left alone, he and others like him should die for their crimes. Jason promised himself that if he ever did get free, not only would he apologize to her but he would also make sure that she never had to worry about the stalker bothering her again.

Now he understood why victims of rape and violent crimes often killed their attackers, how could one possibly continue with the knowledge that they weren?t safe? If the feeling of terror and disgust was this bad just from the implication of being used then it must be beyond horrible to actually be attacked. It didn?t help that he knew he was no match for him. Nathan had told him that Jared wasn?t interested in women, but somehow he got the feeling that Jared would enjoy hurting her too. Jason couldn?t help but tremble a bit, if he resisted Celestia would most likely be hurt as well, and he knew it wouldn?t do him any good, as Jared would get what he wanted anyway.

Jared smiled as he watched Jason struggle to hide his fear of him. He would do as the doctor recommended and wait until she cleared him for what he had in mind, but it didn?t mean he couldn?t enjoy himself in the meantime. He would have preferred to use the drugs, but he was patient, he could wait until then to make Jason his. But first he would make sure he understood exactly where he stood.

Jared moved towards Jason, he smiled when he saw Jason?s look of panic. He continued until Jason had his back to a wall. He waited a moment, then moved until he was so close they were touching. Jason shuddered when he felt Jared run his hands along his back and then pull him even closer to him. He turned his face to the side but Jared moved his hand up along his back and grabbed the hair along the backside of his head.

Jared forced Jason?s head back until they were facing again and said, ?I talked to you before about cooperation, I may not care for women, but I have no problem including Celestia if you feel the need to resist.?

Jason shuddered again and closed his eyes. He couldn?t stop the few tears that escaped and ran down his cheeks. With his free hand Jared undid Jason?s shirtfront and then ran his hands along the bare skin of his back. He held him close with one hand behind his back and used the other to hold Jason?s chin forcing him to look into his eyes.

Jared said, ?Remember what I said as I won?t repeat myself the next time.? He released Jason and left.

Jason knees gave out and he sank to the floor. He leaned back against the wall and shook. He didn?t even try to stop the tears that came. Now he knew why Jared had allowed him to see Celestia. He was making sure Jason knew what would happen if he didn?t do what he demanded. If someone had told him that one day he would face the reality of being raped and used by another man he would have never believed him or her. He would rather die than cooperate yet the thought that he might touch Celestia sickened him in a way he didn?t fully understand.

Jason got up and went into the bedroom to hunt for a change of clothes; his encounter with Jared had left him feeling dirty and unclean. He wanted a bath so bad he could taste it.
*pinches indifference* Don?t scare her away! ^_~
I?m not that easy to scare away. ;) Still after reading the latest chapter, I see what indifference means. I know I for one am not interested in all the details surrounding issues like rape. I don?t really care for implied either, but it is a reality I suppose.

I feel like saying what have I got myself into? You?ve gotten me a bit sucked into the storyline in that I want to see how you resolve it, but now I?m a bit nervous about what Jared is going to do. And on the other hand, having never read a story where the guy gets harassed, that too has my interest as it's just not something I read or hear about.

Perhaps I should pinch you Beth, for getting me caught up in your story! :p

Chapter sixteen:

Celestia knew that something was terribly wrong with Jason. She didn?t know what but she knew something had happened since they had been moved to the better quarters. Although he was happy to see her and it made working with Nathan a bit more relaxing with him there, every time Jared was around Jason withdrew into himself and became almost lifeless. Celestia wanted to ask Jason what had happened but the opportunity to be alone to ask never presented itself.

They had been working with Nathan for a week when on the seventh day two guards came telling Jason it was time for his weekly check up with the doctor. When he left to go with them Celestia decided to ask Nathan. After she heard from Jason how he had saved him from being more seriously hurt she felt she could trust him.

Celestia turned to Nathan and said, ?Nathan, I need to ask you something important.? To her surprise Nathan looked a bit uncomfortable.

?Very well Celestia, what is it you need to know?? He finally replied.

Celestia hesitated and then made up her mind, she had to know about Jason. ?I?m concerned about Jason. What did Jared do to him? Please! I have to know!? She said.

Nathan grimaced at the question wondering what he should tell her. He could tell she was genuinely concerned about Jason, but knowing wouldn?t help her. He sighed and made up his mind. He would tell her. Even if Jared didn?t care for women he would do the same to her if he thought it would give him more control over Jason. He had done it before. He might even hurt her just for the enjoyment of seeing how Jason reacted and Nathan would hate to have her find this out the hard way. Even if it was unpleasant, warning her was the only thing he could do.

?Very well Celestia,? Nathan said, ?I?ll tell you though you won?t like what I have to say.? He paused for a moment and continued, ?It?s quite simple, Jared?s prefers men instead of women and I?m afraid that Jason has caught his interest.?

Celestia couldn?t help herself; she gave a little gasp of horror and covered her mouth with her hands. ?You mean he has..? Celestia choked on the word rape, she couldn?t say it!

Nathan continued, ?I don?t know if he has actually raped him yet. I am truly sorry Celestia; there is nothing I can do to help Jason. It pains me to tell you but he may even rape you as well just to hurt Jason. I cannot interfere. I?m sorry.? Nathan looked away, ?The Commander may outrank Jared but she finds him amusing so she never interferes, in fact she often gives Jared the men he wants as a bonus for all the hard work he does. Also the Commander?s father is a member of the High Council so even if I went above her head no one would listen, I would even run the risk of being punished for interfering in military issues that as they would put it don?t concern me. A few actually tried and paid the price with their lives. I?m sorry.?

Nathan turned away and continued his work. Celestia didn?t even try to stop the tears. She had been terrified that someone would do that to her since she was captured, but it never even occurred to her that someone would hurt Jason that way! She had known some women who had been attacked but never a guy. Celestia had heard the horror stories of guys being raped but she thought that only happened to guys in prison. She had been so focused on her holographic technology how many other atrocities had she not even been aware existed? Celestia was glad Nathan had told her and yet another part wished she could crawl in a hole and just die. If she had never developed Silver One, Jason would never have been dragged into this mess!

The door opened and the two guards escorting Jason left once he entered the room. Jason was surprised to see Celestia crying. Before he could ask her what was wrong she ran across the room and hugged him tightly all the while saying she was sorry over and over again. He wrapped his arms around her and held her but she couldn?t seem to calm down. He looked up at Nathan but before he could ask what had happened, Nathan sighed and said, ?She wanted to know what Jared did to you.? Jason paled. Nathan continued, ?I?m sorry Jason, but Jared wouldn?t hesitate to hurt her too and I didn?t want her to find that out the hard way.?

Jason sighed, ?I see, thank you for the warning Nathan.?

Jason reached down and gently grasped Celestia?s chin and turned her head so she was facing him. He brushed away her tears and gently kissed her on the forehead.

?Please stop blaming yourself Celestia, it?s not your fault, there?s nothing you could have done to prevent this from happening. You?re forgetting that they planed on invading Earth. So even without the game you made I would have ended up a prisoner or dead. If you hadn?t made the game I would have never applied to work for you and I would have never met you.? Jason held Celestia close while she slowly calmed down.

?Celestia,? he said. Celestia looked up at Jason. He continued, ?No matter what happens, I?ll never regret that I met you.? Jason pulled her closer and kissed her tenderly on the lips. He was surprised when she kissed him back. He held her close until Celestia finally pulled away a bit.

?I?m sorry Jason, I don?t know what to say.?

Jason smiled and said, ?It?s okay, thank you for being concerned about me. And please stop blaming yourself okay??

Celestia nodded and said, ?I?ll try. It?s just that,? she paused as her face turned red, ?the thought that he might..? Jason placed his hand on her mouth indicating she should be quiet.

?Don?t worry over something that hasn?t happened yet, and if it should,? Jason choked a bit at the thought before he continued, ?Lets not worry or blame ourselves over things we can?t control. Okay??

Celestia hugged Jason even tighter before she replied, ?Okay.?

Jason just held her tight while she composed herself, he was appalled that Celestia knew about Jared and yet part of him realized that Nathan was correct. Celestia didn?t need to find out the hard way what Jared was capable of.

I didn?t like it where he left it up to her own imagination as to whether or not he had been raped. >_<

So definitely an improvement that I like. And though it?s a bit sappy, it brings out how they care for each other better as they are being more open with one another in the revised version. ^_^

I agree with Aaryanna, the additional conversation is a nice improvement. I actually had originally planned on expanding the conversation in that spot, but I guess I forgot. Chapter seventeen:

Nathan sighed with frustration. In only two days they would be leaving Earth to head for the next system. He had already finished preparing the program to hunt for a hidden resistance base. Once again he was impressed by how smart Celestia was as her contributions to the program looked like they would increase how effectively it screened for higher-level energy signatures. Nathan was also surprised by Jason?s contribution as well. He was obviously studying quite hard to understand their technology and it was paying off. Nathan made sure to include his observations of Jason?s progress in his daily report to the Commander. If nothing else it would help guarantee that Jared wouldn?t kill him. Though he was beginning to wonder about that, as Jared hadn?t killed anyone in over a year now.

Usually once Jared was bored he got rid of who ever had caught his interest. Nathan remembered it all to well as twice Jared had taken an interest in one of his assistants. The first one had lasted all of a month before Jared got tired of him and killed him. But the second one he had left alive. At first Nathan was confused, but then it happened again and again with other guys. It seemed to him that Jared enjoyed the fact that they were powerless to stop him if he decided to bother them again. Before Jason was captured Jared had been taking an interest in his assistant that he had left alive. He would leave him alone for a few months and then go back to doing what ever he pleased to him. It was a vicious cycle that pained him, as he was powerless to stop it.

Nathan finished the report and sent it off to the Commander. Now the real problem was getting Celestia and Jason off the ship in the next system. He had received confirmation that there would be a ship waiting to take them when they arrived. Now the trouble would be the timing. He would have to find the right moment to take both Celestia and Jason to the bay in order to escape. Nathan already had clearance to take out a shuttle with the new scanner he had built with Celestia?s help. But he didn?t have clearance for Celestia and Jason to accompany him in the shuttle. He wasn?t even sure if he should ask. Even he knew that the Commander would be suspicious if he wanted to take them off the ship. Especially since he could easily set up a relay to the computer room where he could be in direct contact with Celestia. The Commander would definitely wonder what his motivation for wanting to take them would be.

Nathan sighed, somehow he had to take them there and make sure he took off without them knowing they were on board for a few minutes. He only needed a few minutes to run, as the ship waiting for them would be waiting for him to perform an emergency landing. If he could manage to get just 3 minutes it would be enough time for them to escape into hyper drive. Nathan sighed again. Unfortunately the only advantage the resistance had was their hyper drive systems. They were faster than the military?s. So far the military hadn?t been able to catch a ship intact in order to copy the improvements. And the resistance members they had caught and tortured didn?t have the information they wanted.

It was also one of the reasons Nathan would commit suicide if he was ever revealed. He was one of the programmers who helped build it. So far he had been able to avoid having Celestia work on understanding how it worked, but at her rate of learning he wouldn?t be able to put it off for long. Nathan felt torn. If he couldn?t escape with her, could he bring himself to kill her? Could he also kill Jason and himself? He had known when he joined the resistance that this day might come, but deep down inside he had hoped it never would. It would only take two days of hyperspace travel to reach the next system, which meant he had only four days to decide. Perhaps he would have Celestia and Jason help him calibrate the equipment in the shuttle. If he made it seem like they had left by using her holographic program it would give the illusion that they had left. The real question was could he prepare the program in time.

Nathan shut down the computers, and left for his quarters as he was finished for the day. Besides there was no way he could write the program here in the ships lab. It went without saying that anything he did was accessible to Jared and the commander. No if he was going to prepare a program he would have to use the hand held device in his quarters. He could encrypt the program to erase itself if someone other than him used his or her access code to turn it on. Using something connected to the ships main computers would be foolish and irresponsible. Even doing this would be dangerous. It was a good thing that he had made sure nothing was in any of the ships computers. If he was discovered, he had long ago made sure absolutely nothing regarding the resistance was in any of the systems. Everything he knew was committed to memory and not some secret file. It was another reason why he had been so successful. If anyone did a search on him, there literally was nothing to be found.

Nathan entered his quarters and sat down on the small sofa. He put his feet up laid down and closed his eyes. Only four more days until the moment of truth, although it pained him to lose his position as an insider he knew there was no other answer. What truly pained him is he wouldn?t have a chance to warn Anna of his decision. Although she didn?t know he was a member of the resistance, it was possible she would be interrogated if anyone remembered that they had been seeing one another. It had pained him to cut off contact with her. Especially since they had decided to have a child together.

The necessary arrangements had been made and once the genetics had been completed the completed egg had been put in her womb to finish the process. A few of the Versilans thought that reproduction through genetics was deplorable, but Nathan disagreed. By abandoning the practice of sexual reproduction they had increased their lifespan and virtually done away with many of the diseases and genetic imperfections like the people on Earth had. Besides they hadn?t gotten rid of sex, they just no longer used it as a method of reproducing.

Nathan sighed, when he had realized that he had decided to join the resistance that he couldn?t afford to drag Anna into it. With no explanation other than he no longer desired to see her and that he didn?t want their son to know who he was, he had left to serve under the military. Although it had hurt him to do that to her he knew it was the only way to keep her safe. Even if she was interrogated she knew nothing. He had run into her briefly as their son Daniel had been assigned to his team when he was sent to Earth.

Although Anna had respected his wishes and Daniel didn?t know he was his father, somehow he had found out that Anna had loved him and that he had hurt her by leaving without any explanation. Daniel had made it quite clear that he considered Nathan scum. And that if wasn?t for his mother?s wish for him to leave him alone and the fact that it was his sworn duty to serve the Versilan Empire and gather the necessary information to prepare for the invasion of Earth, that he would kill him for what ever it was he did to his mother. Nathan had just kept quiet and said nothing.

He was just glad that no one had discovered that he had erased the files and made it look like someone else was Daniel?s father. He had taken the file of an officer who knew Anna who had died during a skirmish between the military and the resistance and placed his information in the files indicating he had been the genetic donor and was therefore Daniel?s father. Nathan was pretty sure Anna knew, but she had never disputed the records and kept the fact that Daniel was his son a secret. His only regret if he should die was that he wouldn?t get the chance to tell Anna how sorry he was for lying to her all these years.

This latest chapter with Nathan is giving the impression that things are going to get interesting again. I?m getting the feeling that you are setting it up for a major change in the storyline. So be sure to post again soon so I can find out if my hunch is correct!

Oh and though I never saw the chapter without the additional conversation between Celestia and Jason, I agree with the others as leaving such an important thing up in the air would be very annoying in a real relationship.

Anyway, keep up the good work! And like I already said, post! :catgirl:

And like I already said, post! :catgirl:
I'll second that along with a suggestion. You could always put up two chapters at once instead of just one. Especially since I'm thinking that the next chapter is a little on the short side.

Chapter eighteen:

Jared got up from the computer console in his quarters and stretched. He had been working out the details for their next mission since he had gotten up that morning. All of all his scout teams from Earth had already been recalled back to the ship, as he was certain that there wasn?t a resistance cell operating there anymore. Jared sat back down at the terminal to finish putting a few details in his report for the Commander regarding Earth. Once he was finished with that he forwarded it to the Commander and then switched the terminal off.

Funny how sitting at a computer terminal for most of the day had left him bit tired and there was no need to continue as the plans for scouting missions for the next assignment could wait until tomorrow. They wouldn?t even be leaving for another two days and it would also take an additional two days of hyperspace travel to arrive in sector fourteen. Jared stretched again before getting up and going over to the terminal to order some dinner. Once he finished the preparations for the next mission tomorrow he would have three days with little to no duties to be performed.

Jared sent the order for dinner off and then went to his room to change out of his uniform into something more comfortable. He pulled out a soft brown silk shirt and pants from the compartment in the wall by his bed and quickly changed. He left his boots by the bed as he enjoyed the feel of the soft carpet in his quarters. It was one of the first things he had done when he transferred to Sandra?s ship, as he preferred the feel of carpet to cold hard metal flooring.

Jared walked back out to the main room and sat down on the sofa to wait for his dinner. It was ironic that replication technology was so simple and yet because the crystals necessary were so difficult to cultivate perfectly that there was only two them on the entire ship, one for the officers and one in the sick bay. As a result one had to order what they wanted and there was a small crew whose only duty was to insure that the food was delivered to each person. And even then because this was a battle ship the replication was only used for officers, the rest of the crew had to make do with the food at the mess hall.

Jared remembered that in his previous post, since it was a smaller battleship it only had one for the sick bay and he had to make do with the tasteless stuff provided by the mess hall there. If Celestia was really so smart perhaps it would be a good idea to have her researching another method that didn?t require the crystals or to see if she could improve on the technology to make them. Energy was far easier to produce than food was. But without the crystals they had found that replicated food after a while left people with deficiencies in their diets as the replication was flawed.

Jared stretched again and put his feet up on the sofa. He had an idea of how to spend his time while they traveled to the next system. True to her word the doctor had sent him the report of Jason?s progress and he had been pleasantly surprised to read that according to the doctor he was completely recovered. The doctor stated that her estimate of several weeks and been inaccurate and that if he was a regular officer she would be clearing him for duty. When he had taken Jason to his quarters for the first time, it had been extremely difficult for him to leave. Just that brief touch had been enough to almost make him forget that he had planned to wait until he could use the drugs.

Other than Jason seeing him he had made a point of not being alone with him, as he didn?t want things to get out of control. If there was one thing Jared hated, it was not being in control. It was thrilling to be so powerfully drawn to someone, yet it disturbed him a bit to be so affected by his own desire for him. Although the doctor had said he was recovered over four days ago, Jared wanted to wait until he had a few days free so he could completely enjoy himself. Jared smiled to himself, besides it wasn?t like he didn?t have other ways of entertaining himself.

It was supremely ironic that the crew considered him so ruthless. Despite the threats and rumors he had never actually been with a woman. It was easier to use the drugs and have them think he had taken them. Twice he had used that tactic to remind his captive just who was in charge. They had died thinking he had taken the woman they loved. It was also ironic that a few of his choices had actually enjoyed the experience. Jared had never been in love with anyone but he had a few lovers he knew felt that way about him. They were so delusional that it didn?t even bother them that he didn?t love them in return. They still professed their love knowing that he was unfaithful to them on a regular basis.

He also found it supremely ironic and amusing that people could be so blind and foolish. Though they did make a nice diversion on occasion. It was funny how some of them practically fell over themselves for a chance to get into bed with him. Jared sighed, only four more days until the next mission, he would be finished preparing the details tomorrow. Not including the day of arrival, that left two whole days that he could do anything he wanted with Jason. It would be the perfect chance to make full use of the drugs and methods he preferred. It had been a while since he had the luxury of the full treatment. It was hard to wait, but nothing less would do. So few of his interests aroused such desire in him and he wasn?t going to spoil it by being impatient.

The chime indicating someone was at his door sounded. Jared voiced the command for the door to open. A young man entered carrying his tray; he took it over and set it on the table and then turned to leave. Jared smiled, as it was one of his lovers. He got up and caught his arm to stop him from leaving. He pulled the young man towards him, unfastened his shirt and pushed it off his shoulders, as the shirt fell to the floor he moved to kiss him, dinner could wait until later.

And now that I?ve said that, put it up already! :p Oh and I like how you clarified a bit as to why the crystals were so important. I'm fairly certain you didn't clarify that before.

Chapter nineteen:

Daniel sighed, of all places why did High Command have to send him to sector fourteen? And of all ships to be assigned to work with, why did it have to be Commander Sandra?s ship? He had worked so hard to earn the rank of Commander. And although the ship he was assigned to command was a much smaller battleship than Sandra?s ship, he was still quite pleased with the assignment. By becoming a Commander at age thirty-four he was the second youngest Commander in history, only Sandra was younger than he was. It had only been ten years but he felt far older than being forty-four.

Daniel sighed again; he didn?t have a problem being assigned to work under Sandra?s command. What he didn?t care for was he would have to deal with Nathan again. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn?t get the details from his mother about what Nathan did that upset her so much! He had known as a child that something had broken her heart but he didn?t know what. It had taken some research to find out that they had known each other and when he did he wanted to kill him for leading her on like that. Daniel also wanted to slap his mother silly for still caring about a scumbag like Nathan. But she had asked him to please leave him alone and Daniel reluctantly agreed to do as she asked.

Daniel had been required to serve under Nathan when he was required to gather information from Earth. He had tried to pry information out of him but Nathan simply didn?t answer any of his questions or threats. And now he would have to work with him as his ship had been assigned to work with Sandra until further notice. Daniel had originally been assigned to the fleet prepared for the invasion of Earth, but with the recent increase in activity by the resistance group High Command had postponed the invasion in favor of using the extra resources to track down and crush the resistance cells that had been showing up.

He had agreed with the decision as he felt it was foolish to proceed with an invasion when there had been such an increase in activity. It would be unwise to invest so much time in taking over Earth if there was a possibility of problems deep within the Empire. It took time to take over a world and implement all the changes necessary to ensure they would be unable to break free. It was part of what made them so successful. They always made sure things were deeply in place before moving on to another world.

He would never understand why people felt that underdeveloped worlds should be left alone. It wasn?t like they even had the intelligence his people did, and most of them were like Earth, short life spans and riddled with all sorts of health issues as they lacked the ability to use genetics to reproduce. High Command had tried to use enhanced learning to make aliens more useful, but so few of them were actually able to absorb the knowledge. You didn?t try to make your dog smart! You took care of it and taught it how to be useful!

Admittedly aliens from other worlds weren?t dogs, but take Earth for example, they were so absorbed in thinking they were better than others that quite a few of them fought with each other on a regular basis! Their reasons for war were supremely petty! They fought over absolutely everything! Religion, race, money, power and land were only a few of the things they fought and killed over. At least as a citizen, even if you were required to work, every one had shelter, food and entertainment provided, and the law applied to everyone! And if you worked hard and proved yourself capable you had the opportunity to move your way up by serving in the military, unlike some of the Earth?s societies who never allowed you to advance because of class, gender and other reasons like religion. That would be like telling Sandra she couldn?t command a ship because she was a woman! He couldn?t even imagine telling her she couldn?t do something just because of something stupid like that!

Daniel turned his attention back to the present, he would be arriving in sector fourteen three days before Commander Sandra?s ship. According to High Command they were to search for a suspected resistance base on one of the worlds here. Unlike Earth this system had no planets capable of supporting life. Which is probably what would have attracted the resistance to use such a location in the first place. There were no shipping lines or regular space travel through this area. His first order of business would be to set up communication relay transmitters. He didn?t really need them but Sandra had forwarded a report regarding a new scanning technology developed by Nathan and an Earthling. Although setting them up would only take a few hours Daniel liked to be prepared. Even if there was a base here, the resistance simply didn?t have any ships capable of taking on a battleship, even a smaller one like his. Unless they had somehow managed to get their hands on one, battleships were just to expensive and time consuming to build. It would be extremely difficult to hide the fact that you were building one.

A beeping noise from the computer alerted Daniel that they were about to drop out of hyperspace. Thirty seconds later the ship shuddered as the computer automatically shut down the hyper drive system. Daniel sat back and watched as his crew started performing the basic and simple scans to make sure everything was all right. A split second later the computer automatically took over and maneuvered the ship hard to the right. Daniel nearly fell out of his chair as the sudden force from the maneuver threw him sideways.

?What just happened?? He demanded.

?Checking sir,? his second in command said. She switched the view of the main screen to show a small ship that they had barely avoided colliding with, a few seconds later the computer gave her an answer. ?The computer identifies it as a ship know to be in use by the resistance!?

Daniel smiled. So High Command had been correct about a base being in this sector. ?Engage tractor beams! I want that ship!? He ordered. His second in command didn?t even take the time to reply. Her fingers flew over the controls as she activated the tractor beam catching the resistance ship.

Daniel continued, ?Disable their engines, fire the lasers at half power!? The ships gunner took aim and fired, scoring direct hits to the engine room. Daniel could see explosions rocking the tiny ship. Then the ship began to emit a white glow. Daniel didn?t even bother to issue the order, as he knew what they were doing. He switched the energy shields protecting the ship so that all power went to the front shields. A split second later the ship detonated, rocking his ship violently. This time he was thrown from his chair to slam painfully into the control console next to his second in command. He felt something give in his chest and a horribly sharp pain quickly followed. He managed to get up and go back and sit down in his chair overlooking the bridge. All over the bridge his officers were picking themselves back up and helping a few that had been knocked unconscious when they had been tossed around.

?What?s our status Kim?? He asked.

Kim got back up in her seat as well and started checking the system. It took her a few minutes to get the information. ?Front shields have been reduced to ten percent. Our main engines are offline, and interplanetary communications are offline as well. Two crewmembers in the forward bay have been killed as the sudden shock of the explosion punched a hole in the storage room they were in. Emergency bulkheads in that area have engaged protecting the rest of the ship. A number of other areas are seriously damaged and are being evacuated until the integrity of the ship in each area can be tested. Bulkheads associated with those areas are being manually activated in case the hull buckles. I?ve also run a few scans with the short range scanners that are still working and other than the one ship there doesn?t appear to be any others.? She replied.

?Are you injured?? He asked.

?Other than some bruises I seem to be okay Commander,? She paused and then continued. ?You should be more worried about yourself sir.?

Daniel looked down to see what she was referring too. His entire right side where he had hit the console was covered in blood. ?I see, then I will leave things to you while I go visit the doctor.? He said. Daniel tried to get up but found he was too dizzy. The Ensign standing next to his chair helped him stand and supported him while he walked to the lift doors. Daniel turned to Kim and said, ?Be sure to inform me the moment the interplanetary communications are restored, they are to take top priority as we need to inform Commander Sandra and High Command about what happened here.?

Kim nodded her head and said, ?Understood Commander.?

Daniel turned and with the Ensign supporting him entered the lift. He winced when it started moving as it sent ripples of pain through his side. He sighed, as he hated visiting the sick bay. The sooner he was treated the sooner he could return to his duties.

So I was right! Daniel was going to be one of the characters. By the way, I like the new characters you?ve added. :catgirl: Right now I'm getting the impression that the two I will be seeing more of are both Daniel and Kim. Anyway, just some quick proofreading. If you take a look at these two sentences...
The ships gunner took aim and fired scoring direct hits to the engine room? A number of other area are seriously damaged and are being evacuated until the integrity of the ship in that area can be tested.
The only things I noticed that were a bit off were these two sentences. After the word fired a comma would help to give it a necessary pause as it seems a bit off. Also I think you might want to have areas instead of just area. Anyway, be sure to post again soon. Especially now that as one would put it, the plot has thickened. ;)

Chapter twenty:

Daniel realized he was hurt more than he originally thought, as he wasn?t sure he would even make it to sickbay. They were almost there when another crewmember saw them and immediately moved to help. When they entered sickbay several of the doctor?s assistants moved to help him lie down on one of the few empty beds left. Once he was settled the two crewmembers that had assisted him left to return to their duties. Daniel cringed at the waves of pain coming from his right side. He tried to relax but it just seemed to get even more painful as time went by. One of the assistants came back and ran the scanner along his side. Daniel could tell from his expression it wasn?t good.

He shut the scanner off and said, ?Just a moment Commander while I get Alex.? Daniel just nodded his head. It seemed like an eternity but in reality only a few minutes passed before the assistant returned with the doctor. Alex didn?t waste any words but ran the scanner again as if reconfirming what he had already been told. He turned to his assistant and told him to prepare the third surgical room for immediate use.

Alex finally turned back to Daniel and said, ?Looks like you?ve really done it this time Daniel. You?ve managed to shatter one of your ribs, puncture one of your lungs and some of the bone fragments are sticking out your side. I know I?m wasting my time telling you, but it?s better to let us come and get you instead of moving with those type of injuries.?

Daniel winced and said, ?Sorry Alex, you know I hate sickbay, I just thought I?d save you the trouble of hunting me down this time.?

Alex smiled and laughed. ?That?s true. The good news is I can easily repair the damage but it will require surgery, as I will need to build the foundation to re-grow the rib that was shattered. I know you hate being under, but this type of work is quite delicate so I won?t be able to allow you to be conscious this time. I?ll also need you to stay in sickbay for at least one day after the surgery is complete to give the new rib time to stabilize. I will inform Sub-Commander Kim that she will be in charge until further notice.? Alex paused for a moment before continuing. ?And Commander, please don?t make me restrain you this time. I?ll put you under for several days if I have to. I?ll be more than happy to set things up so you can stay in contact with Kim, but this time it really is important you stay put.?

Daniel said, ?Very well doctor. Though the moment I am recovered enough I expect to be released.?

Alex smiled and said, ?Deal.?

Kim stood up and stretched a bit before continuing with her work. It had been twelve hours since their encounter with the resistance ship. She had heard how they would commit suicide to prevent capture; she just had never seen it firsthand before. Only the Commander?s quick thinking in switching all power to the front shields had saved them from even more extensive damage. Other than the interplanetary communications and the hole in the forward storage hull all the more serious damage had been repaired. The wiring to the communications had already been fixed, but the main computer boards had been fried due to an energy overload caused when the resistance ship exploded. They had all the materials necessary to build a new board and the engineer?s had told her they expected to have it ready in another six hours.

Kim now had every able person assessing the damage to the hull in the forward storage area. The last report indicated that although they could fix it well enough to make hyperspace possible. It would be necessary to return to a space dock and have a section of the hull actually replaced as the stress had warped the metal beyond its stress point. If everything went well all the repairs there should be finished in another twelve hours.

Kim finished preparing a report for the Commander. The doctor had informed her that he had taken the liberty of giving Daniel something that would keep him out for around fourteen hours. Knowing how stubborn Daniel was about medical treatment she had post-authorized the sedative. Kim smiled; she would enjoy arguing with Daniel about it later. She always gave him a hard time about treatment.

She got up and left the bridge to go to sickbay. Knowing the Commander even though he was suppose to be out for a few more hours it was more likely he would wake up early. Besides she had something really important to tell him about. Among the wreckage of the ship they had found a few things intact. By immediately disabling the engines of the ship it had resulted in them lacking the power to completely destroy everything on board. A hand held device had been recovered still intact. Although most of the files were corrupted beyond recovery a few of them had been salvageable and she knew the Commander would want to know what was in the files immediately.

If for some reason Daniel was not awake by the time the interplanetary communications were restored she would contact Sandra?s ship immediately. Based on the information in the device the resistance had known that Sandra?s ship would be arriving in this sector in a few days. That meant that there was probably a member of the resistance working undercover on Sandra?s ship! It was possible that Commander Sandra already suspected that there was someone from the resistance on her ship, but if she didn?t know she would want this information as soon as possible.

Kim continued walking through the ship to the sickbay. She had also noticed that the location of the resistance ship in the system would mean it would go unnoticed for several minutes based on where Sandra?s ship was due to drop out of hyperspace. The fact that they had almost collided with it upon arriving in this system told her that who ever was working for the resistance didn?t know about Daniel?s ship being assigned to work with Sandra. Otherwise they probably would have left this sector already. The real question was why was the ship there in the first place?

Kim entered the sickbay and went straight to the room the Commander was sleeping in. Since he wasn?t awake yet she sat down and continued to look through the notes that had been recovered from the hand held device from the resistance?s ship. Who ever was working for the resistance on Sandra?s ship had to have some level of authority. They had even sent recommendations for the base in this area to be abandoned. Which meant the probability of them finding anyone still here was slim. Most likely they would find an abandoned base that had been stripped of any clues as to where they may have gone.

As soon as the ship was able to move she would have them scan the planets in the area for signs of an explosion. If there hadn?t been enough time to evacuate then they would have made sure to destroy the base. If that was the case the chance of finding clues was slim to none as they usually were quite though in that respect. Kim entered the room where the commander was and sat down; she continued to work on her own report regarding their arrival in this sector while waiting for the commander to wake up.

If only our own medical technology was good enough to repair such damage as you?ve described. But I digress..

I liked the little bit how Kim was chuckling to herself about arguing with Daniel over authorizing part of his treatment. Very little information and yet it effectively implied either a close friendship or more personal relationship.

So post some more so I can find out just which one it is. ;)
