After looking into this, I found a slight bug in the PM system. The person who send you the Private Message either deleted their account or an Administrator deleted it. Regardless, because that user was not in our system anymore, it wouldn't show the message in your inbox. I'll implement a fix for this soon enough.
uhh...I don't know if this was deliberate or not. But ont he banner it says Redefined 10/01/04. It is still only September. ^_^;; Unless that means something else is going to be happening on October 1st? Just thought to point that out, just in case.
theOtaku.com.

Much more advanced customization will be coming to myOtaku, however.. currently all of our efforts are pointed towards relaunching theOtaku at the moment. After October 1st, then we will have time to add more features and build upon what we currently have at myOtaku.
Well you've asked two separate questions without realising it or perhaps you have but only meant to ask the one, regardless I think it would make for an interesting debate though it may be moved to the Lounge if the context requires it. Question #1: When does a New Member become a Member ? If I remember correctly James told me that it was 50 posts, although if memory serves I remember him saying something about it being set at 20 posts by accident and they were working to fix it. Time used to have it that it took 500 posts to reach the illustrious title of Member but times have changed and we must change with them. So the answer 5O to the best of my knowledge.
It is set at 50 posts.

We had a bug with the login system yesterday that has since been fixed. Just delete all of your cookies, and try logging in again. It should work. Otherwise, cookies are not enabled for theOtaku and myOtaku.com. To do this, if you are using Internet Explorer, go to: Tools > Internet Options > Privacy Tab... then fine the Site button, and add myotaku.com and theotaku.com to 'always allow'.
Why not just do what I do: highlight and copy your post to the clipboard so you can re-post it if gets lost. It's very convenient.
Exactly. Learn the keyboard shortcuts, makes it very easy. 'CTRL + A' then 'CTRL + C' Would take you less than a second to do that, and all you have to do is 'CTRL + V' to put it back if it happens to get lost.

I'm not sure why your post count is off, nor do I really care to investigate why as well. Chances are, one of the forums you've posted in does not up your post count. vBulletin has a script that allows me to fix, or update, all post counts. I'll run this when I get a chance. Seeing as with v7, posts counts don't matter, give it a week or so.

Well, I fixed a bug with the wallpaper portion of the comment system today. I highly doubt it will fix any of the problems previously mentioned. I am not quite sure what happened to the comments that have been deleted. Doesn't make much sense, but I'll look into it. Hopefully it will not happen again, just let me know if it does

Chances are your cookies have become corrupt. Simply log out of myOtaku and log back in. All should be fine.

If you're using Internet Explorer, you've probably accidently decreased the page text size. Easy fix... go to View > Text Size > Medium. Medium is the default option, its probably set to smallest for you right now. If you're using FireFox or other browsers, I'm sure the option to change text size is there as well. Hope this helps.
A way to link to specific archive posts would be brilliant.
Agreed. This is something I have thought about doing for quite some time, and would be very easy to implement. I'll let Adam 'design' how he wants it and then I'll implement it soon enough.

So, when you go to your backroom and click on 'Edit Profile'... after changing how many days you want shown on your main page, it gives you an unauthorized access error? What browser are you using? There's a chance some data isn't beeing passed through properly. Also, tell me more detailed steps in how you come up with that error.
It should tell you, in your back room, how many friends you have so that you dont have to count them! Why not? can this be done? -Peach
Why would you need to count them? Is that number really important? I don't see cluttering up the backroom anymore just to show a count of how many online friends you have. Thats my opinion..
I don't know what's going on, but in my last myO entry, it wont let me read my comments. It keeps saying that I must be a registered and logged-in member, which I am. I can read the comments on all my other posts and on other people's. I can comment on other's too. Please fix this so I can read what people said to me. ;_;[/color']
Your cookies become corrupt. In IE, or whatever browser, go to Tools > Internet Options > Delete Cookies If you don't want to lose all your cookies... go to C:\Documents and Settings\WINXPLOGINNAME\Cookies
I'm having a problem with my backroom. On my Popularity Ranking, its stating that I'm #974. I know that I am not #974, especially after double checking with the Member List, where it confirmed that it should say in the backroom that I am #195. The really odd thing about my ranking in the backroom is that its the exact same number as how many visits I have: 974. I'm sure its just a small glitch but I thought it might be important for you to know.
Fixed -- small error on my part.
This one is for the Wallpaper section of the site. When I try to click on the "800 x 600" or "1024 x 768" button to enlarge a wallpaer I like, I'll get this message: I always get it, no matter what I do. And I know for a fact that I am registered at myOtaku. Thank ya
Now, are you actually logged in when you attempt to download it? You can tell if you're logged in by visiting myOtaku.com (your backroom should appear). If you are logged in, try visiting fan art and rating a piece of art. If you can rate art, and it still won't let you download a wallpaper, try this:

Log out of myOtaku
Clear your cookies by going to Tools > Internet Options > Delete Cookies
Log back into myOtaku
Let me know if you're still having trouble.

This is a known error -- I will be discussing it with Adam to hopefully come up with a fix.

Now, to actually answer your question and ignore any sarcastic comments... To my understanding, how vBulletin handles the whole "login strikes" system is if you attempt to login more than 5 times it won't allow you to login for 15 minutes. I am pretty certain that if you attempt to login during those 15 minutes, you are not penalized an addition 15. Once the original 15 expire, you get another opportunity to login. Of course, you get 5 more chances to get your password right. What might of happened in your case could revolve around your browsers cache. vBulletin may actually of let you login, but your browser probably was showing you what was cached. Hope this helps.

In terms of auto-deleting accounts, the only accounts we currently delete are those that do not activate their account after registering [not e-mail verified]. I'll prune these accounts every once in a while, and I only delete the accounts that have not been verified after 90 days or so of registering. Now, I disagree with actually pruning inactive accounts. Of course, this may not be the same opinion that James or Charles may have. Basically, a user may not be active on or a board for numerous reasons, and their inactive state could be for a long time. It would be unfair to a user to lose their account name. Also, if the user was well-known around the boards and suddenly disappeared. What might happen if we delete their account, in say 30 days of being inactive? If someone else registeres that name, he may be confused with the older person on that name. In terms of the vacation mode idea, I feel it would be a waste of my resources to actually develop such an addition. It seems rather pointless, and not needed. Chances are, if a user is going on vacation, they're aren't going to remember to update their OB profile to reflect that. Also, it wouldn't be required if we aren't pruning accounts anyways.

Ok, I fixed the bug with submitting guestbook entries. A rather small, but noticeable error on my part. For deleting ones own entry, I signed several guestbooks and I was able to successfully delete my own entry. I also deleted an entry from my guestbook, and it worked fine. Maybe a little more detail might help me resolve that one :)
