So who's been to any concerts recently or...ever. Just wondering cuzz it's often insightful to hear from fans who went to concerts to see if they're any good live. As for me. I've seen Shadows Fall, The Haunted, Black Dahlia Murder (just a little), and It Dies Today in concert. Actually that was one concert in this local place that's not really designed for big turn outs. Needless to say, moshpits were nasty. Shadows Fall came second and were stunning. Dahlia Murder was okay from what I heard and they had the biggest moshpit of all the bands playing. Adozenfuries, this years, Ozzfest Battle of the Band winners were there but the didn't play very much. The Haunted was the best though. They were loud and agressive and the moshpit was the bloodiest. They were almost trippy in a weird way. It Dies Today was the worst they because they didn't generate the crowd very much. Probably because they were first to play and the crowd wasn't big yet, plus they were being pushed to get on stage before they were fully ready. So, who else has seen somebody live?

So when are we starting?

I know alot of you right now have girlfriends or boyfriends at the moment, or maybe even husbands and wives. Hell, there's even the rare engaged couple. Anyhoo, this thread has been created for the sole purpose of giving idea's to each other on what you're getting your mate for *gasp* Christmas! I got my girlfriend a ring. I dunno if that's like too obvious or something.

Nice looking rpg. I'll join! --- Name: Toshi Sekimoto Age: 22 Gender: Male Appearence: Personality: He can easily get obsessed over things. Very outgoing and comical. In stresful situations he's the kind of person who would try to find something to keep cheery but than again if it's too much he'll break down as well. He can be morbid and space completly as well. Biography/Character Snippet: Toshi was a working student, attending a lower class university. He lived close to the campus and worked at a small cafe around three miles from his residence. Recently Toshi had taken a vacation to the US to meet with friends he'd met online. Upon his return home, he found that everything in his apartment had been thrashed. His bed had been sliced open, mirrors shattered...and there was blood. The blood led Toshi to a sight of horror. His roomate, murdered, hanging upside down from the ceiling, wrapped in cloth. Blood was everywhere. Toshi could hardly get to the phone to call the local authorities before he was knocked out cold. He awoke sometime later, his head, no his entire body was aching. A man entered the chamber where Toshi was being held. "You are mine," he said. A year or so passed, Toshi had become a true assassin under the guidance from others under the enslavement of this mysterious "boss" His true skills were shown when he started adding his own personal flavor to his killings. His regrets began to fade as each death was dealt. A sort of...craving set in. To see the blood of his victim fall to the floor excited him. --- Hope that was alright?

Lol. I found this a long time ago. Fooled the hell out of me, although I was skeptical because there are no pictures of actual kittens that have succesfully been through the process. It's a mean idea though. When they showed how the poor things are supposed to eat I was about to hurl.

Wow, this thread is really...nevermind. Anyhow, anybody I have a crush on. I'd have to say, Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil. She's friggin italian! That or the girls from Kittie.

Lol sorry. I just listened to this one song and was like, "Well this sound folkish?" Right after I posted though I turned to the next song and went crap v.v Yeah. I checked the Metal Maniacs magazine I told you guys about earlier. The band's name is BattleLore.
This "Folk" refers to Celtic and Scandinavian folk music for the most part
So, I'm not sure. BattleLore is themed around Tolkien's works. Is that still considered Folk Metal? -
Yeah, I like Zombie Engine too but Blood Carnivale and Dead Hand sounded good too. Anybody else got some stuff.

I've had some trouble lately coming up with a name for my band. It's hard for the 5 of us playing in it to decide on a single name. It's centered around a fusion of shock rock and nu metal. Like Murderdolls and Slipknot...in one. So my friend Ky came up with the name 3rd Z, which we put down. His reasoning around the name was that he wanted to make somewhat of a tribute band to Rob Zombie. 3rd Z was supposed to mean Third Zombie where the second was Rob Zombie and first was White Zombie. Than my friend Colin, who isn't in the band but shares our ideas came up with Reaper Core. While I like the Reaper part I detest the Core. My friend Derek has come up with so many names it's funny including Pink Bunny Homicide, Ebony Sky, Everblack, Kore, Death to the Strawberry, etc. So yeah. Nu metal shock rock. Themes of comical horror. Any ideas?

I've listened to Wintersun some. Just some that my friend Derek has. He's into the folk metal stuff. I'm not sure but I think that Sonata Artica is somewhat folk also. -
Alright, under your guidence Jake, I went to the local rock store near where I live. They had alot of In Flames stuff there. So I went and got "Whoracle" and "Colony." Whoracle is by far the greatest I've heard from them while Colony is not exactly as great. Worlds Within the Margin is pretty a pretty good song off of Whoracle.
-
Quiet Sean. Your supposed to hate all that is Victory Records. Okay, so there is some good stuff there. I still hate most of it. They claim it's all death metal and it's hardcore? Again, down with false advertising.
-
Personally I think the term Mallcore is alot less degrading but among true metal fans I've seen it used as an insult just like certain unmentionable words used for women. So what do we call this genre than?
-
Alright, I downloaded some stuff from a fan site I found. Song, Episode 666 is a great song in my opinion.

It's like viking stuff ain't it. I've never heard of it either although I think I've seens tuff in Metal Maniacs advertising this Lord of the Rings looking band? -
Yeah, that's why I originally said that on the cases of some of these hardcore bands Victory releases they say, sounds like "Shadows Fall, Black Dahlia Murder, and All that Remains," all of which are either thrash or death. I can tell you that Darkest Hour sounds nothing like Shadows Fall at all.
-
Thank god. *praises* I thought it was all disgraceful to call those bands Nu Metal from earlier threads I've seen. Ok some I'm an Nu Metal...head. My last stand however is that Nu Metal, while not being a sub genre, is a cousin genre to metal. I also detest the name Nu Metal because it's more of an insult, because the metal bands around at the time of Coal Chamber and KoRn said that because alot of bands were using a variety of Upper and Lower case letters to make fun of them.
-
Alright alright. So they're not metal. How do I clearly group all these bands into a single genre if that's possible?
-
Aww, nobody laughed at my limp bizkit joke v.v Oh well. I don't seem to be following what, you guys believe contributes to being metal. In my little world here rock is much softer than metal. It's more like I dunno. Probably the heaviest you'd see in rock is The Dave Matthews Band.
-
Limp Bizkit. Isn't that a game that perverted teenagers play...never mind. Anyhow, I classify Murderdolls as more punkish than Wednesday 13, even though their nearly the same. I would say they're a shock rock band like Rob Zombie with a faster sound. I mean, just listen. The electric guitars and drum beat isn't meant for punk. It's a speeding shock rock band... Take the song "I Walked with a Zombie" Definetly fast, definetly hard, and definetly...shocking. I don't see a better place for him.
-
Alright, so you've won on Slipknot. I still like them though and would say there the hardest rap I've ever listened to. As for Rob Z. go ahead and say he's shock rock but I would still classify that as some sort of sub genre of metal. And *gasp*, we can put Murderdolls and W. 13 in there too.

As a few of you have seen in some of my recent posts, I'm against alot of what Victory Records puts out. I'm sure any avid metalhead has been looking through the selections at, lets say Fred Meyer or Best Buy or some store that sells music and seen such bands as Darkest Hour. One the cd cases they say, "Sounds like Shadows Fall, The Black Dahlia Murder, All that Remains," the list goes on. They got me pumped enough to buy 2 Darkest Hour Albums, and 1 Sinai Beach album. They also got me close to buying a Bury Your Dead album but I previewed that one and was disgusted. I took these albums home and was disgusted. They lied! They have little to no melodical content. This record company houses the bands which represent what people say when they say death metal is just a bunch of yelling, slamming on drums, and random directions. Darkest Hour has one good song that I listened to from both albums I bought (The Sadist Nation and Undoing Ruin) and found one good track. ONE! Sinai Beach was a tad better. They had about 3 good songs and the rest was stuff I just tuned out. So than I proceeded to be an idiot and bought the "Masters of Horror" compilation which featured a ton of samples from bands that were currently housed under Victory Records, leaking roof. Take a look at the people playing in these bands. A mohawk here and there. Mostly emo looking crap. The singers from each band I've heard sound the same as well. Like they're being forced to sing but can't because somebody's grabbing they're nuts. And there's my rant.
-
I agree, the Black Dahlia is a great band, but again, it's a band I haven't listened to much and I've seen them catagorized as one of the stupid skater metal bands. I've actually seen them live before but for maybe 10 minutes. They came to a neighbor town and performed with Shadows Fall, The Haunted, and In Flames.
-
My girlfriend let me listen to them. I really don't get into J-Pop/rock all that much for the fact that it's too close to techno for me. However! Dir En Grey steps outside the box for me. The best J-Rock band I've ever listened to by far.
-
Are you serious? Honestly, Slipknot hat half the people who follow them because half the people who listen to them follow them because they wear creepy masks and such. Secondly don't go around saying Static-X, Murderdolls, and Rob Zombie and those bands are metal. What are you gonna call em then. Rapcore, metalcore, all these little subgenre's which I have no care for. Head up the line and it's all metal. Lastly, don't think that because I listed Slipknot means I'm suddenly a full blown maggot or some crap like that. I like the band, simple as that. I hate it how people who love death metal hate almost everything else. Bring a little variety into your lives!
