Israelis forced out of Gaza by their Government
"It's fundamental to hate jews"? Sorry, but what source are you getting this garbage information from? The Quran mentions many tribes and nations, all of whom were sent prophets to guide them to the right path. Of all these tribes and nations, only few actually listened to the prophets and the rest didn't. Of all these tribes, and nations, the jews were sent the most prophets, and the gave the most trouble (they've been around a long time). That's it really. So there were jews that were good. Many of the prophets and their followers were jews. Edit: Sorry, I worded the above paragrapgh incorrectly. I meant that within these tribes and nations, most people didn't listen. And that doesn't give us the right to hurt jews for no reason at all. But still to this day, many of them, (in Islam's view) are still defying God. The term "jew" can be difficult to understand, because it refers to both a race and a religion. There are jews who are athiest, and there are arabs who are jews. I haven't heard of this, but there could be jews who are muslim too. "The muslim nation aren't getting along with Israel" because we believe the jews (jewish religion, not race) have been denied that land because they defied God so many times. Those who are followind judaism are still defying God now. And in addition, they did invade land that palestinians were living on. Now I understand tha jews believe that the land belongs to them, and that they actually must fight and remove those living in the land and build that nation called Israel. I respect those believes. But muslims believe otherwise, so at the same time we must fight them and stop them from invading the land we call ours. In my opinion, I think palestinians should fight back, but not by bombing civilians. Not a drop of blood should be shed from the innocent. The only way is build up an army and conduct proper warfare. But of course, we'd all like peace right now. And the only way is for both sides to compromise. If jews don't want to compromise, neither will the palestinians, and vice versa. It's a bit difficult. Jews believe they must actually remove palestinians. That's why the arabs are so keen to keep fighting. It's a matter of mistrust. Even if the jews just want to live in the land right now, they will eventually try to get all palestinians out, and even take over jordan, lebanon, and syrria, because the all used to be one with palestine. Anyway... As a palestinian, all I want is rights for my people, and to be able to go back to my homeland peacefully. I have no problem living alongside jews, as long as they don't deny us our rights, and allowing us access to jerusalem and the mosque peacefully, and a palestinian state.
If it makes you feel any better I don't think that the Jews (As a religion) have any claim to Isreal with any material substance (Saying that they deserve it because God said so is not a reason to have a country IMO) and that the country itself is Illegal, but when they start taking things over it just crosses the line. I don't think that even the Jews as a race deserve the land, since the only people who really have any claim to it are the Bedouin Nomads. Also, I found that 'garbage' in the Qu'Ran. I don't remember the surrah, but it says somthing like 'Jews are the greediest peoples on earth and are never to be given a moments peace' or somthing along those lines. I'm looking for where I read it, and when I find it I'll post the actual quote. My point was that the Muslim literalists and the Jewish literalists will never be at peace unless both religions go through a MAJOR reform, similar to what the Catholics did. -
As for the propaganda-ish media crossing over the border... I have no idea what you're talking about. Bush doesn't really have too much 'propaganda' in America. I mean, he has the Army commericials, but those aren't related to him at all. Really, I see the media as pretty free from Bush propaganda. Altogether.
Trust me, in Canada it's hell. Every second news story you watch, every commercial, every bit of Media (With a few very notable exceptions) seems to be geared towards turning us into Americanites. 'Terry's gift is forever green' I'm not sure who originally said it, but it was used in the song Inveitability of Death (Tragically Hip, My Music @ Work, 2000) It is said in reference to a man whom I deeply, deeply respect, Terry Fox, who more or less changed the face of Courage and Determination as we know them. 2010 is the 30th Aniversity of the Marathon of Hope, and I'm patitioning the Federal Government to put Terry on some CDN currency in time for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. That would be, in my opinion, the ultimate way to show the respect to the the ultimate athlete. -

'So, the chemistry's set And I'm not the saddest cheerleader To forget the American word For the gang in the head That dwindles to no members when The mystery's met And the sky looks threatened Heading home in the dusk Singing, 'life is forgetting Good enough for the frivolous'' The Tragically Hip - Vacination Scar I love this part of the song because it really, really expresses how I feel about the War in Iraq. It's a good song, too. And yes, the song was written about Bush's War. The Hip are deep like that. 'What's troubling Gus you sound demented Is it because someone talked and she told me He no longer thinks anything that moves and Everything he sees is something to kill and eat? What's troubling Gus is it nothing goes quiet? The whip-poor-will at dusk.... Is it nothing goes quiet? Is that what's troubling ya Gus the mere mention of the name Used to be enough to make every bird stop singing? Is that what's troubling ya Gus? No one is afraid enough? What's troubling Gus is it nothing goes quiet? Is that what's troubling ya Gus? The mere attention of the name Used to be enough to make every bird stop singing The whip-poor-will at dusk tells you no one is afraid No one is afraid enough Is it afraid Or is it afraid enough It's troubling Gus' The Tragically Hip - Gus: The Polar Bear from Central Park Although this song was officially written about a polar bear named Gus in central park who proved to shrinks that animals could in fact get depressed, I prefer the more sinister version. Replace the name Gus with GWB and you'll see what I mean. -
I warn you, don't come to Canada in the Summer!!! It's too hot!! If my mom heard you say that about Canada Day, she might have to hurt you.
Ya, it is to hot... I'm sticking to everything and it sucks :/ It all depends on the area... in Quebec it's basically another excuse for Habs fans to gather, sgin O Canada really loud, than, while Fireworks are going off, we drink and talk about how much better the Habs are than any other team... It's a fun gathering. I'll stop ranting when the US stop screwing us over and making fools of us on the worlds stage... -
*awkward cough* Erm... You don't live in America, so you wouldn't really get any of the stuff Lore's talking about. She's talking about stereotypical American moments. 4th of July, learning the Pledge of Allegiance (I too said "invisible" when I first learned it), watching those baseball games and those white picket fences. It's more of a cultural up-bringing thing. Like, I wouldn't have any idea of traditional Canadian stuff. Canada's kind of a cold, obscure nation, north of America, where I go when Bush instates the draft. That's (mostly) all I know.
Yes, I don't live in the US (Although I know a great deal about it, I don't think you realize just how invasive the US media is over here) but my point was that the US has prfoundly, in recent years, screwed over my country. I was just responding to all the good things that the US sterotypically does with all the bad things that it... well, actualy has done. It was probably out of place, but I often can't contain myself when I here things like that without anything bad... It just makes me feel, well, sick. BTW, Canada is more or less like the US, but instead of Baseball you've got Hockey, instead of trhe pledge of alligence you've got O Canada and The Maple Leaf Forever, and Canada Day is even in the same week as the 4th of July, although it's really just an excuse to get into a drunken Hockey Riot... caugh... and burn things. -
I think that's true, but it's also very sweet. And isn't it true of any sort of love, really? When I think of America, I don't think of George Bush, or Iraq, or terror. I think of playing in the sprinkler in my backyard, and helping paint the honest-to-gosh white picket fence that seperated our front lawn from the back. I remember watermelon juice dribbling down my chin at 4th of July picnics; I remember walking down to the beach to watch the fireworks at night when I was young, and I remember driving my little brother to watch the fireworks last summer. I think of how I learned the Pledge of Allegiance when I was 5 and would say "...under God, invisible" at the end. I think of almost 20 years of Thanksgiving dinners at my Grandparents' farm, and learning about Pilgrims when I was in kindergarten, and the public school I went to for the first three years of my education. So help me, I do think of ice cream and apple pie, and it's good stuff. I think of Trick-or-Treating, and bobbing for apples, and the crisp, new smell of spring after a long muddy winter. This is my America. I don't understand how anyone could hate it.
>begin rant When I think of America, I think of all the Canadian farmers (Including my Uncle and my best friend's dad) who got screwed by the Beef Ban. I think of all of BC's lumber industry which is going out of business one-by-one due to the illegal Lumber Tariff. I think of the fact that he didn't know the identity of our PM when we sent aide to NYC in the first hours and landed all those US planes and welcomed them into our homes (It's true; for about two days we had 3 people from the US living in our home, and this happened all over the nation) I think of the fact that he threatened, and damn nearly did, to blockade the boarder when Canada refused to fall in line and march off to Iraq. I think of the illegal patroling of Canadian waters in the Artic by US Subs under Bush's direct order. I think of the fact that Bush has only set foot in his closest allies country ONCE in his 5 years as president. He even flew down to Australia (Where he was boooed by Aussie MPs) and Mexico. I think of the virtual white-washing of Canadian importance in American textbooks and history. I think of the propogandga-ish media that flows over the boarder and turns people into Right-Wing, Uber-Americanised 'tin soldiers.' Finally, I think of the consequences of GWB's illegal war that's greatly effected my and many other lives. This is my America. I don't see how great it is. >end rant. -

Vandels are vandels. You can't expect to put somthing on a grave and find it there the next morning; it's the sad truth about my Generation, shiftless lot we are. I think that this, although a bit of a reminder of how much my generation sucks, is not really a tragedy; it's a fact of life, like Hockey Riots are a fact of life where I live. I'd rather see news reporting about the two Torontonians who were caught smuggling guns across the Boarder, and than that lead them to a gun-smuggling ring that was responsible for 14 shootings in the Toronto Area; now that is a tragedy. This is just depressing. -

Israelis forced out of Gaza by their Government
The civilians are getting really cheesed off right now about being forced to move. Sharon sent his troops over to try and get the people to move peacefuly but they barricaded off one of the main roads. The troops didn't do anything in retaliation though. All they did is stand around for a while and leave. I'm really hoping thsi all ends peacefully, but it sucks that the two main religious groups in the region can't just suck it up and cohabitate like adults. I mean they're worshiping the same God, right?
I agree, I hope that the this all goes off without another massive war and blood shed, I hope that the local militants don't get any anti-semertic ideas. We'll see. But the two main religious groups, especially Islam, will never get along. In the Qu'ran it even says that the Jews are the 'Greediest human beings alive' or somthing like that, and that they are all bad in the eyes of Al'lah. I'm not exactly sure, but devout Muslims will most likely always hate Jews, because to not hate Jews is againts the fundimentals of the Religion. Unless Islam goes through a major reform, like the Catholics did, the Muslim nations will never get along with Isreal. -
The other question I wanted to ask is: why does everybody think the war has to do with higher gas prices? Iraq doesn't even have the most oil. We get ours mainly from Saudi Arabia and Venezuela, I believe. Like... 80% in those two countries. We didn't go to war for oil, either. Never. lol. I'd like to ask, though, is there a more complex part of this that I'm missing? Please explain to me why the war would make gas prices higher - I've heard the arguement enough that now I want to know why people think that. X_x;
Yes, a lot of Oil does come from Saudi Arabia and Venezuala (As well as Alberta and Texas) but a lot of that oil that would be going to the econemy is instead going into War, a large, large percent of it is going into fueling tanks, planes, ships etc etc. The reason this effects the rest of the Western world so much is that a lot of the oil in the world (Particularily in Canada) goes through the US first, and than into the country it's destined for. For processing, pricing, market etc etc. So now that oil becomes scarcer due to the war, the US has the ability to significantly mark up prices on crude oil, or just reserve it for themselves, thus thurougly boning the rest of us. That's the biggest problem with giving one of the most militiristic Western worlds so much money; the government is just bound to rob the rest of us blind.
And America does it more than other other country. We're the only one who's pulled out of the Kyoto pact, wants to drill for more in Alaska (yes, let's screw over the wildlife!!!). Are you Ready For Some (American style) Football?
Lafleur replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in Noosphere
I don't know: I just don't find NFL-Style football as entertaining as some other sports (Hockey, first and foremost) and I'm much more excited about the CFL season. I much prefer the slightly different rules used by the CFL; three downs, bigger balls ( :p ) wider field etc etc. It makes for a more pass-dependent game, and because of the three downs it means that people don't have as much room for error and it makes everything more exciting. Plus CFL teams are local teams that I can identify with more so that is probably the bigger reason I'm more of a CFL fan than an NFL one. Anyway... Go Montreal Allouets! While we're on the subject, Vive le Montreal Canadiens! -
You think that a bloody war for the former Iraq's territory would be better than us stabilizing the country and installing a centralized government? Do you have any idea what the senario you're talking about would lead to? I'm talking mass war between those countries in the Middle East you mentioned. Not to mention hightened animosity towards Americans in general. Here, I'll put it like this:
Think about it this way: Iraq is a country divided, basically, between the Shiites and the Sunni, with the Kurds curled up in the center getting ****** no matter who wins. Now, lets say that the person elected in a democratic election is Sunni. The Shiites would not take that lieing down; there would be mass revolts, and eventually a Shiite leader would be installed. And than the Sunni would get pissed and they'd revolt. It's the nature of Radical Islam (Not ignorance, just fact).
Seriously, you're talking about mass war between several land-hungry powers. By giving these countries the prospect of land, they're going to want it all, and they won't be able to have it. Meaning big fights, and large numbers of civilian casualties. But really, who gives a f_ck, I mean, they're on the other side of the world, living in some poor a_s country anyway. Why bother cleaning up the mess we made, when we can retire to our nice, warm country, complete with food, water, power, and communications?
No, I'm not. Because Radical and Imperial Islam is such a divided religion, and such a fiercly divided one, it would be a matter of religious-hungry countries like Iran and Turkey trying to get as many shiites or sunnis as possible to keep their regimes afloat; There is a chance, of course, either country will go on a bit of a Jihad againts the other; and it's, sadly, likely that the Kurds will get the short end of the stick again. I'm truely sorry for that; but at this point there is no way to help them. They'd be like the Third Party or the Green Party; accept here, they don't just feel disapointed about losing another election, they lose thousands in a bloody coup by the Shiites or Sunnis. By the way, my country wasn't involved in creating the mess. We have no obligation to clean up the mess; only to be disapointed in the result of an ill-planned offensive by our neighbors.
