I just wanted to add that Religious fundamentalism isn't always taking terror to the unbelievers, it's following your faith closely, I don't see how a Christian fundamentalist, who loves his neighbour and does good to others and foirgives sinenrs is really a threat tot he world. :p If he seriously did mean that we should assasinate the guy, then he's acting out-of-step with Christian teaching,a nd hence, is not a fundamentalist.
Well, religious fundimentalism is a very fickle thing. Somone out there looks at the bible, reads the bible, studies the bible, and gets the impression that God wants to kill everyone who's not Christian. What does this person do? The will of God. It's better described as Literalism than Fundementalism, Fundementalism is a word thrown around to often today. Still, people who go on TV and preach 'If you do not accept Jesus as your lord and saviour you will go to hell' and all that stuff, people who come to your door and persist that you convert to Christianity or whathaveyou, that's the current extent of Christian Literalism. If you think about it, Islamic Fundementalism is the same thing on a much more radical level. In Islam's position Christianity would more-then-likely have been preverted in the same way.

Geez, I've been hearing about this nutcase for months. I still remember when he had a show asking people to pray for an opening on the supreme court justice, which is a lifetime job (So basically he was asking God to kill somone for him) and when he had the same show ask for a hurricane hit Disney Land because it had 'Gay Days' or somthing like that. This guy is a real piece of work. He's just a washed-up-has-been-former-presidential-canditate who's looking to soak up the gullable Right-Wing Uber-Christians and whatever attention he can get from them the happier he is. Asking to have God get a guy assassinate is just bloody inane. He's really over-the-top, this is why Fox should cease to exist; for giving nutballls like this a chance to spread their nuttery. I can name other programs that can get the boot, too.

Again? Woohoo...
You're not 'eating like a rabbit,' you're eating so that you remain healthy and don't die at age 60 from all these new-age preservatives or whatever the crap they toss in food nowadays. You're just cutting back on the junk food. Put down that extra bag of chips, and go for a walk. No one's forcing carrots down your throat, or making you go on the Atkins diet. Society and the 'big-wigs' aren't buying your groceries for you, either. You buy your own food, you make your own food decisions. Yes, there is a weight-loss craze going on, but only because people look for those easy ways out, those miracle pills, the lyposuction. People, unless it's a genetic disorder, go outside and ride your bike, put down the McDonalds, and don't touch that cake, either. Get with the "eat less exercise more diet." As for the white bread being just as bad for you as wheat? Not true. You see, they heavily refine the wheat in the white bread, and take out all the healthy stuff like vitamins, and put in things like transfats (hydrogenated oils, I think). Now, this isn't a blanket for ALL white bread versus ALL wheat, but it's generally true that white is less healthy than wheat.
It's not so much the healthy alternatives, it's the fact that even food that is supposed to taste good is now being turned into horrible food just because it's healthy. That is, in my opinion, the last straw. If they ever force Poutine-makers to stop deep-frying the fries in lard and take away the thick-as-mollases Gravy there'd be a revolt in my home-town, it should be the same everywhere! At this rate Sugar will be practically banned from food! The most unfortunate part is that places like McDonalds, that are the ones that aren't exactly going healthy, are the places that make food thats bad tasting and bad for you. Pretty soon the only place you'll be able to get a good-tasting meal will be at the local diners, and I will not stand for it! Oh, and I never said it JUST as bad for you. I said that all that crap about white bread being full of big-bad preservatives is just that, crap. The preservatives are in both, and even then Preservatives aren't incredibly bad anyway.

Songs that annoy me? Pretty much anything made by a band that came around in the last 5 years, particularily Rap and these cant-sing-but-have-big-boobs women who take over the market. The one and only topper is Candy Shop, or however the illiterate 'artist' calls it. I swear that when ever I hear this song I get the urge to just stab whoever is enjoying it; how that song became so popular I shall NEVER know. It's like that 'Toooo the windowwwwwwwwwwww to the walllll' piece of crap that was around awhile ago. I cannot believe that anyone could listen to that crap. Just thinking about it makes my bloody boil. Why is it so hard for people now-a-days to have taste? Is it like a prequisite of being a teenager today? Dammit am I lucky I dodged the ******-music bullets. LONG LIVE THE GOLDEN AGE! LONG LIVE ROCK! LONG LIVE THE GODS OF ROCK!

This is somthing that struck me today when my mom said that we were never buying White Bread (Which I happen to like considerablly more than the alternatives) because of all the perservatives etc. So I thought to myself 'Is that true? Is White Bread really that bad?' and went to investigate. What I found was shockingly not surprising. I compared the ingrediants (I made a list) and found that literally the only difference between the two was the Whole Grain. That's it. Everything bad in White Bread is in Brown Bread. And this was in the 1# Healthies Bread in the Country (Or so it claimed) so I thought... Wait a tec... If this is a scam what ELSE is a scam? Although I don't have any particular proof for this, this is what conclusion I came up with. Is it possible, just maybe, that the Health Food craze is really just a market-orchistrated scam to boost profits? It is a fact that food with less sugar and preservatives is cheaper to sell, and if you spread the rumour that it's good for you it flies off the shelves. I've also noticed that formerly good-tasting foods (Coke, Mug Rootbeer, Delissio Pizza etc etc) have slowly but surely begun to taste like crap, while making claims that they are reducing the sugar. Is it possible that maybe it was the Corporations that started this whole craze in a masterfully orchistrated plan to boost profits? Afterall, the longer they live the longer they consume, eh? They get off with selling things for the same price without putting the same into thme; it's a scam! Now even we of the Taste-Over-Life Persuasion cannot even get cereal with sugar anymore! This has got to stop! What are your opinions? Think that this is in anyway right? Think it's not? I'm up for a good debate, and I can site some more examples of the Corporations posing as Health-Food-People to boost profits. BTW, anyone wan't to join my orginisation? Put the Sugar back in Coke (PTSBIK). PS, I have taken my proposal (The PTSBIK Contract) to Parliment Hall and they laughed in my face, literally, and I was forced to send several letters to my MP, but to no avail. I need to gather supporters and try again! All that and I didn't swear once! Yay!

But, please, would you care to explain how what I said was anymore of a flame than what it was in response to? My statment merely said that religious-bible-thumping-intolerence was supposed to have died along with Cortez and his ilk, years and years ago. Could I have been nicer about? Sure I could have been. In retrospect it would have been a good idea. I apologise, but I'm often to agressive when it comes to such matters and I apologise for it, but I would still like to know why my post is any more flame-filled than OA's?
If you don't want to listen to what someone has to say, then leave. All of us have the right to say what we want on this board as long as we follow the rules. You on the other hand have no right to call someone "scum" and "useless turd". I swear, where are the mods? Why don't you tell people using insults to back off?
Ok... OA was using the Bible to say that all Homosexuals were sinners etc, and I'm fairly certain than many homosexual members who read that post would come off seriously offended. I know I would. My rant wasn't so much confined to OA's comments, but on Bible/Qu'ran-Thumping as a whole. Believeing in religion is fine. Telling people they are all sinners and they will go to hell and that they were a mistake is NOT fine. If the mods weren't going to approach OA to tell him to stop calling Homosexuals sinners who will go to hell I don't think I'm at risk here. Unless... BTW: Scum and Useless Turds was a little harsh, yes, but I was on a bit of a rant. By it I meant 'Cavemen' and 'Bible-Thumpers' respectivly.
She won't get that apology fromt he president, but she is getting something for all her effort. It seems that the tide of opinion against the war is rapidly increasing, or so our MSM is reporting. She's getting alot of mothers of slain armed forces personnel on her side, what began as a one-person protest seems to be slipping further and further out of control every day. She has become a mini-celebrity in many cases, whichever way you look at it, pro-war she's a kook, anti-war she's a saint. She might have had the right inspiration for what she is doing, but seriously, this is not the way to get results, at least those results you actually want.
Even before she started this, the war approval rating was only 39% or even lower. If only those 11% had pulled their heads out of their ***** before the last election... Um, anyway, does anyone know if she could even be legally imprisoned for this? So far as I know she hasn't broken any laws... It's either an empty threat or they plan to throw yet another illegal prisoner into some ****hole prison. *sigh* As Red's pointed out in his post, Ilium, your post needed editing for language. Without question, Led Zepplin takes this. Amazing band, great insturmentations, decent singer, without question one of the Gods of Rock. My summer, frankly, lived up to my expectations. Hell, it surpassed them. But that isn't really a good thing. I'm one of the minority of people who actualy hate summer, with an icy-cold passion. I hate, more or less, everything about it. The heat, sucks. The weather, sucks. I hate beaches and I hate most outdoor summer activities. I don't even like the fact that there isn't any school! Most of my friends live 25 km or more away, so walking is out of the question and I can never get a ride. The only place I ever see my friends is at school, everything about summer pisses me off. Plus when I sweat I stick to things. I'm a winter person. If I had it my way it would be Winter Break and not Summer Break. I love the cold. It's not that I don't get cold (Though I do have a high resistence) hell somtimes I'm freezing, it's just that I love the icy cold, the deep freeze, everything about it! Having a massive snowball war, skiiing, Hockey, just lying in the 3 meters of snow with a 2-4 and some buddies, it's FAR more enjoyable for me. In conclusion? I did **** all all summer. I sat in front of my computer, placed NHL2005, CS:S, WarCraftIII, surfed the net, and *****ed about the heat. I leave you with the words of The Traigcally Hip... Summer's Killin' Us Does summer exist in its praises? Does summer exist in its praises? Summer lives here in its praises. Come on up here we got something to show ya Wanna show you everything we know Wanna show you we can vanish before ya Wanna show you we got our blind roads And does your family know your wishes? Cause this chorus'll do ya like the dishes Summer's killing us It's just sing sing sing all day It's as if summer existed in it's praises Come on over I got something to show ya Record sunshine it's the Shadow Band We can have strictly cactus relations Telling the waves to stop cra-sh-ing And does anybody know your wishes? Cause this tune'll do ya like the dishes Summer's killing us! It's just sing sing sing all day It's as if summer just exists in her praises It's a time for more to happen sooner A time to be a person you still know To float awhile on your shore power Til you say 'Canada lost. Go home.' Where summer's killing us! Where we sing sing sing all day It's as if summer exists here in its' praises Summer exists in a doorway Summer exists at the fair Summer is forever changes Summer's taken me unawares Ilium, I've had to edit your post for fairly serious swearing. I'd download some of the songs (I have no shame >.>) but because of my internet speed it'd take me about 20-40 min to download an average sized song (Do. Not. Laugh. Or I shall cry) so it's not really a worthwile investment for me. I was just saying that it looks like there's a Metal trend going on here, as I can tell your a Metal fan, so I just thought I'd throw out a few suggestions... Those were just off the top of my head, really, I've got a bunch of others that I could whip out.

I know this has already been answered, but I'm a fan of overkill.
Wow. Just...that was insulting to every person serving in the armed forces. You sck beyond all measure. ...So, is there going to be a story about the hundreds of parents who aren't acting a fool over the death of their sons/daughters? Honestly, this woman is using her son's death as a platform to spout her political opinions, then shielding herself from critisism with her son's body. She already had her audience with the President, but now that she's become more of an activist than she already was. The rest of her family has disavowed her actions, and her husband has divorced her because of this. If my father had been killed in Africa when he was there under the Clinton administration, I wouldn't have blamed the president. If he had been killed in the Middle EAst under the Bush administration, I wouldn't blame the president. This woman is pimping out her personal tragedy, and I'm sick of it. She's started giving advice on the Gaza strip and the tax code, for God's sake; why is anyone listening to her?
1) Why? Because I said that half the people who join the millitary do so because they're from unfortunate homesteads and they don't have the money to get a proper education anyway else, they have no choice but to join the Armed Forces. If people joined because they were itchin' to take out some of their anger, than they want to go to war and then it's their own damn fault if they get killed. But if you get sucked in to a War (Especially one as unfounded as The Iraqi Conflict) because it was your only choice for an education, that's just sad. Oh, and it's not my fault that people would rather live in Canada than go fight some muscle-flexin' war. 2) I have to agree with you here; the media is terrible. They're going to completely ignore the people who don't do this type of thing and go after the one who is, some of them showing her some support, others just mercilissly terring her apart with, frankly, idiotic and groundless arguments (See: Faux News) that make fun of her because she's a left-wing Liberal. 3) I don't think she's in it for her political views; she's already an activist with Moore and Moveon.org, she didn't need any other way to spout her Political agenda; maybe she wanted attention, maybe she was truely distraught that Bush had started a war that got her Son killed, I don't know, and unless you can read minds (Unlikely) you don't either. 4) This all depends on your point of view. If I knew somone who had joined the millitary because if she/he didn't she couldn't afford to to pay his/her bills or go to a college or whatever, and than a war as ill-thoughtout and terribly planned as the Iraqi conflict got said person killed, I would be terribly mad at the people (In this case, Bush, Cheney, Rove, Fahd, Rice, Powel, and the rest of the Neo-Con bum-buddies) who got him/her into the conflict. That's just my point of view, though. 5) Who's listening too her? If it wasn't for right-wing mega-corporations like Faux News plugging her every day just so they could insult her I don't think anyone would have heard about it after Day 2; Right-Wing media... it's own worst enemy.
*sigh* Why am I covering up for a President that I don't support? Because I have a shred of decency. He's a f_cking human being. He has emotions like you and I. Just because he's doing stuff you [we] don't like, doesn't give you a excuse to regard him as ignorant and subhuman.
I think that he's sub-human, at least by this day-and-ages standards. He's expressed the intellegence and foresight of Marie Antionete (Not that I'm saying he's a girl *snickers*) combined with the millitarism of Napolean or Mahmut II. That may not be sub-human per se, but for a man running a country it's most definatly sub-standard in this era. I regard him as sub-human because he cheated his way to the top; no man or woman with an IQ of 91 could ever make their own path to the Presidential office, and he knew that the only way he could ever stay in office was by starting a war; everyone knows how easy it is to twist wars into some super-propogandgic conflict. By doing this and throwing away countless lives he's defied the one true definition of, if Dune taught us anything, humanity. A true human is selfless, a true human would wait in a trap until the trapper returned and kill the trapper so that no one else gets trapped instead of freeing itself. That's what I regard as human. Am I human? No. I don't claim to be. But anyone as self-centered and wreckless and Bush is not, by my definition, and since this is only my opinion it's what I'm using, a human. -
An arm, a leg and half a foot: the gas price thread
Lafleur replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Sure people with the money can blow it on gas, but what about our environment. If earth could speak I'm sure it'd say "Get these ******* hummers off me." Global Warming is getting more and more severe with each hummer purchased, well maybe not that severe, but it's still a problem!
Global Warming isn't all bad, you know. At this rate, in less than 100 years, the North West Passage, above the Artic, will have opened up, dramatically inscreasing countries like Russia, Sweden, and Canada's abillity to trade throughout the world. Overall this will leade to a dramatic increase in prosperity for the entire world. Yes, the ice-caps are melthing, but that too isn't as bad as it's made out to be; even in 300 years at this rate the Ocean levels will only rise by a few meters or so. This means that the most we'll see is a slow-but-steady increase along costal areas; but it will happen so slowly that it can be easily prevented; Florida would lose a few cm of coast, Indonesia would lose a few KM of land, and overall the world would go on. The biggest problem is the GreenHouse gases, but even then those are actually on a decreese from the years where people were burning unaltered petrol left-right-and-center. By the time more of the heavily populate countries move on and put in place these fuel-restriction laws the Greenhouse effect will DRASTICALLY decress, and the world will continue as it was. The biggest threat right now isn't the girl down the road in a Hummer who puts 50 lieters in her car to roll on down to the gasstation, it's countries like China that have a massive population and ****-all for pollution control. Probably the biggest threat this side of Bagdahd is McDonalds, cutting down the rain-forest to make room for cattle. Not only do they make terrible food they kill the planet to do it! Screw boycotting hummers, DEATH TO RONALD MCDONALD! Oh man that really got long-winded... -
Well, I cannot draw for *** (It's true; even my stick-figures look like a irratiated baby who's mom was on Thalidamai stuck his fingers in his noes and smeared them on a canvas) but I'm incredibly gifted with words. My biggest problem, though, is that I don't have the attention-span to get anything done; I'll write two beautiful pages and than resort to 'Screw Flanders' over and over. I'm also told that I'm moderatly funny. I draw my inspiration from The Hitchikers Guide so I try to emularte D.A. as best I can; often failing, but somtimes being funny as hell. Lately, though, I've lost my flare for writing; I just can't get into it anymore. All in all I'm a sci-fi-com-zom-rom-bomb writer full of what I think are clever characters and wildly ****** up story lines; long live the Jolly Roger 2.0 and her Neo-Privateers!

Ah yes... Reboot... the most imfamous of Canadian cartoonage... maybe not the best, but the most wellknown. I used to watch the show all the time; but turthfully I only liked it after Enzone got caught in the games and the show sort of transformed, that was a much cooler show for me. Plus the chick who's name I can't recall is hot. I also like the Reboot movie, and the final episodes where it's cool action and stuff. I liked it. It's a tad outdatted now-a-days, but it's still a neat show whenever I see it.

Israelis forced out of Gaza by their Government
Well, if that's true, it's a much different explaination than: Yes, they did say that it was rightfully theirs, but that's not even remotely why the UN gave them the land. Really, the country's legal. They have legal claims on the land, issued by the UN. It's not like they overthrew Palestine and split to form the Israel we have today. As far as I'm concerned, they got the land through a very much more fair, humane process than how North America got claimed.
From what I've heard the Jewish Isrealites treat the Muslim Isrealites like the Muslims treate the Jews; like second class citizens. By createing Isreal all that is done is that the Muslim world now has a target for it's prejudice; the Leaders (Who tend to be fanatical) can now declare total war on a country to inflict their damage on the Jews instead of just a few isolated cases. Even if it was legal it's not a good idea. -
Israelis forced out of Gaza by their Government
Lafleur replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
From what I've researched, Israel wasn't created because the UN decided to let people return to their Promised Land. The UN partitioned Palestine because Jews had immigrated there to escape the Holocaust. The increase of Jews didn't go over well with the Arabs, and the Arabs attacked the Jews.
Nontheless, the government of Isreal was grafted from the country that was already occupying the area. Any violent assualts on Jews could only increase if they created the Jewish state of Isreal out of a Muslim country. It turned from the occasional beating, murders, and riots into full-scale war that has raged since the creation of Isreal. -
Well, I mentioned earlier that the Bedouins were nomadic, and as a result had no 'homeland.' If you're moving from place to place, you don't have a land to consider yours in the first place. And the Native American tribes inhabited North America, so I don't think that we have any claim on this land, either. Maybe we should just pack up and leave. >_>
The Mongoliods were Nomadic, as were the Scythians and Armenians (Temporarily) and, well, pretty much every culture in the Steppes and Plains were Nomades, but they all lay claim to some homeland or another. There is a slight difference between the two. Europeans (Brits, French, Spainiards etc.) colonized North America and created an empire; they faught for this land and the Natives were unable to put aside petty squables, unite and defeat them. The point is that the Europeans faught tooth-and-nail to take it, and though I don't agree with the methods, North America was taken. Isreal, however, was simply created by the UN illegally in the middle of already occupied Muslim lands as a homeland for the Jews, based on the simple reason that their God had promised it too them; if that's not the most crooked, skewed reason to creat a country I'd like to see another. -
Oh jeez, Keanu? Serious? I don't think I could stomach a James Bond film like that. I don't recall the films being all too serious in the first place. I liked the Matrix and Constantine, I think he's a good actor and I'd like to see JB take on a much more serious air, somthing that Keanu has down.
-
Well, he had to go I guess. Bond actors don't tend to last long, but he made some decent films, although I think the Bond franchise is a little worn out. He was the first person I ever saw as Bond, so that sort of makes me feel sort of bummed about his loss, but I've seen the other movies now and, aside from the fact that they are old and the film-quality is a little lame by now-a-days standards, Brosnan isn't a great big loss. Who do I think'll be the next bond? I don't really know. Maybe they'll bring in a new actor and give him his big break, like Connory maybe they'll find somone who's not particularily famous right now and make a superstar out of him. Who knows. I would like to see Keanu Reeves as Bond beacause I think it would give the franchise a much-needed air of seriousness, and get away from the less-than-serious, a tad comical movie series that it's become. I posted two quotes that just happened to be a tad anti-Bush, but they were still quotes that mean a lot to me. The only time I wen't off topic since I was asked was to reply to Retributions post; and even then I did include a quote in my answer. Now, in order to reply to you and without any quotes that come to mind, I've gone offtopic again. Yay.
