1. I'm glad to see president Bush is attacking the important problems in our nation. You know, the war in Iraq, North Korea, Iran, pollution, global warming, and of course abstinence among 21-29 year olds! ...something doesn't feel right. Oh snap! I know what it is! It's president Bush! LOLZ!
  2.
Still as much as it?s your right to choose, I am not bothered by the food being changed to be more healthy. Besides if you give it time a lot of healthy food does taste good. And once you get use to it the fattening stuff tends to taste gross. But that?s probably just personal taste as I?m sure there are people who try it and even after a while they still don?t like the healthy food.
I find that to be very true with myself. I used to love fast food. McDonalds! We're going to McDonalds, grwaaaahaaaa!?!?!!!! That was my response whenever my mom told us we'd get to eat out. But as a grew older we started going out to fast food joints less and less and we eventually stopped altogether for home cooked meals and eventually some health food, thanx to my dad. Now whenever i eat fast food i just feel disgusted afterwards. You just feel like crap. I try my very best to avoid...but being a college student it gets hella hard from time to time. Freegin' Krystals. I say down with fast food! And maybe candy corn too. ^L^ jk....
  3.
You're right that he's not a minority in the general realm of healthy/unhealthy eating, but he is when it comes to the actual debate[/i'] over the foods. The rest of us who eat crappy foods are content to do so with the acceptance of some products changing to suit a group of people who want to improve their health. In fact, Hedonismbot is probably the only person I've ever heard seriously complain about this. lol
What debate do you speak of?
  4.
Alright...I'm curious...what do you think, know, or found out about, or just about any other thing that you think messed up or just plain ol' **** up your life and if your in a good mood what helped your life become what it was. Me myself, to be completly honest it was when I was about 9 or 10 and I learned if your doing something out of freedom of expression(in U.S.) noone can do anything about it so I've been hard at work finding out many diffrent ways to mess with the big pompious types and man is it funny...but I think I'll be arrested soon hahaha...but from learning about freedom of expression it became a big influence on why I'm so free-spirited.
So....you're taking advantage of the freedoms of this nation? That's just great...of course i'm being sarcastic. I really hate it when people take advantage of things and use it to cause harm to others. For example: Our engineering class was allowed to guess as many times as we wanted to get our correct answer in our online engineering homework. Now because of a couple of people not even doing their work and just guessing a 100 times we all suffer from it. Now we lose points for incorrect answers. Even if it's just a tiny error such as sign error or having my calculator set on radians instead of degrees. Anyways, to your question. Uh, i'm horribly lazy. I should even be doing homework right now. I really think i'd be in a totally different place right now if i wasn't so dang lazy all the time. Oh well, i'm not going to linger on it.
  5.
More and more I'm finding that it's impossible to get good food any more. Everything that used to be good and tasty has been replaced by terrible, crappy 'healthy alternatives.' Now, I respect that some people like to eat terrible-tasting food for whatever reason, but more and more it's not becomg an 'alternative,' it's becoming the rule. And the worst part, to me, is that it's not just the food billed as health-food that's being effected. Companies realise that they can make a terrible, cheap product and, as long as it's got the '0 Trans Fats' logo on it, they get away with it. Take Doritos, for example. Doritos used to be awesome. You could come home from a long day at school, sit down in front of the TV with a bag of Doritos in hand, and just forget all your troubles; now, Doritos have become sickly, stale, pale triangles of terribleness. Ritz crackers are the same way, they're absolutely terrible now. It's really, really depressing. I respect that some people don't want to eat food that's bad for you, and it's really annoying that my own personal decisions - that taste > health - is not being respected. Has anyone else noticed the incredible drop in quality of junk foods recently, under the guise of health-food?
I think you're being a little silly. In no way are they not respecting your decision that taste is more important than health. They're not forcing you to eat health food, and if you want you can sure as hell find horrible junk food anywhere you want. Think of it this way, it'd be much harder to be a health food fanatic than a junk food fanatic. Almost all food in stores are bad for you. You really gotta go to a health food place to get any decent health food. In other words, if i want something healthy i gotta drive an extra hour to the nearest health food joint to get anything decent. Personally, i think it's horrible the way the food industry is nowadays. Most food is packed full of sugar and all kinds of crap that causes America to be the fattest nation on the planet. It's absolutely ridiculous how many people are overweight. Now for some statistics!!! # 58% of men aged 20-34 are overweight in the US 1999-2000 (Health United States, 2003, NCHS) # 67.6% of men aged 35-44 are overweight in the US 1999-2000 (Health United States, 2003, NCHS) # 71.3% of men aged 45-54 are overweight in the US 1999-2000 (Health United States, 2003, NCHS) # 72.5% of men aged 55-64 are overweight in the US 1999-2000 (Health United States, 2003, NCHS) # 77.2% of men aged 65-74 are overweight in the US 1999-2000 (Health United States, 2003, NCHS) # 51.5% of women aged 20-34 are overweight in the US 1999-2000 (Health United States, 2003, NCHS) # 63.6% of women aged 35-44 are overweight in the US 1999-2000 (Health United States, 2003, NCHS) # 64.7% of women aged 45-54 are overweight in the US 1999-2000 (Health United States, 2003, NCHS) # 73.1% of women aged 55-64 are overweight in the US 1999-2000 (Health United States, 2003, NCHS) # 70.1% of women aged 65-74 are overweight in the US 1999-2000 (Health United States, 2003, NCHS) Now here's a bit for Canada, our closest neighbors. # 14% of women overweight in Canada 1996/97 (Statistics Canada, National Population Health Survey, Health Canada, 1996/97) # 25% of men overweight in Canada 1996/97 (Statistics Canada, National Population Health Survey, Health Canada, 1996/97) Is the difference not ridiculous!? Argh, it sickens me. The recent health food trend is a great thing and i hope it continues.
Welcome to being a minority. While the rest of the world (quite rightly) wants to eat healthier, you want to keep eating junk and expanding outward, and that's fine - but companies don't care about the minority, and would rather pander to the majority, in this case the health concscious types who don't want to be eating transfats in their doritos. So you have two choices here, man: Suck it up and eat junkfood that isn't as bad for you as it used to be (the horror!), or stop eating junkfood. Decisions, decisions.
In no way is he a minority! OMG! Walk into a walmart and see how much junk food you see as apose to health food. You'll quickly see that he is indeed in the majority. The only difference from now and the past is a slight loss in the majority and a slight gain in the minority. I guess that's all it takes for some people to start complaining though... Oh, and check out my new avatar and signature!
  6. The second picture is easily the best of them. Some elements of your art are quite nice, while others are still a bit amateur. The 1st and last 3 pictures aren't as nice as the other ones. It's hard to say what i dislike about them...i suppose it's mostly the style. I prefer...something original? And i'd like to see a full body pic as well. Face is important, but so is the rest of the body. Good work though. ^L^
  7.
I'd rather kiss a grandma than get a mouthful of ashes from a hot smoker. I'm attracted to neither, just less repulsed by the old woman. As for the broad scientific analysis of human nature, it was meant to be a joke. I don't know anybody who takes everything people say seriously, but if I met someone like that, I probably wouldn't enjoy talking to them.
You'd rather kiss grandma, therefore you're more attracted to grandma. You silly silly man... STAY AWAY FROM MY GRANDMOTHER! And as for the science stuff....you really are a horrible comedian. You can't expect somebody to take something as a joke when you speak of it so seriously. It's not like i can hear your voice and recognize your sarcasm. And if it were a joke...you gotta know when to let it go, you rode it out too long. Are you implying that i have no sense of humor? Oh deer. Later.
  8.
If I saw a beautiful woman in front of me, my first impression would be that, well, she's really hot. If I found out that she smoked, then she becomes less attractive than an 80 year old who doesn't.
Hehe, you're more attracted to 80 year old women. You be silly. And i really dislike the way you try to analyze all of human nature through science. It rather annoys me. I knew somebody that did that once....you remind me of her. I don't talk to her anymore. Later.
  9.
I think other people getting cosmetic surgery does concern me. What if I don't want my kids growing up in a society where artificial beauty gained through pain is lauded? If there's anything I can (reasonably) do to turn our society away from cosmetic surgery, I will do it. It is my right and privelige to try to shape the world in such a way that it will allow my future children to grow up happy, with self-respect and confidence. Vanity is one reason for cosmetic surgery. I also stated that in our society, unnatural beauty has its benefits, but perhaps I must elucidate. Women will get better jobs, attract richer, better husbands, and get all sorts of priveliges in our society from plastic surgery. It has a societal value. Ideally, I would have plastic surgery devalued (besides for reconstruction). You're right, we don't have the right to judge people for their decisions, but I still think plastic surgery is wrong. I think it's disgusting, and I find it extremely unattractive. It's almost as unattractive as smoking. Whether it's evil or not doesn't matter to me. I think we would all be better off if non-reconstructive plastic surgery was made irrelevant by a change in our society's paradigm.
Feel free to raise your children the way you see fit. The way i see it though, plastic surgery is a right. We have a right to change our own bodies the way we see fit. I have no problem with society putting value on beauty, it helps to be physically attracted to your mate after all. Appearance is something all people should care about to an extent. I believe that if you like the way you look you'll naturally enjoy life and have much greater self confidence than if you disliked the way you look. Though i do think that it is too easy nowadays, due to our culture, to consider one's self as ugly...especially for women. It is a shame that it's so easy to hate the way you look...but now there are ways to get around that. Cosmetic surgery is probably the most extreme measure to gain a positive opinion of one's self, but if it's an option or the only option then i say go for it. I personally don't understand how you can think plastic surgery is unattractive. If you saw a beautiful woman in front of you and were not sure if she had any form of cosmetic surgery done on her would you simply confess that she's possibly pretty? If you were to later discover that she indeed did have plastic surgery done on herself, would you consider her unattractive? I believe that physical beauty isn't enough to truly consider a person beautiful. They also have to be beautiful in the mind. Ugh, i don't feel like writing anymore. Later.
  10.
This is exactly what I'm talking about. When everyone has a different opinion of what is socially destructive you end up censoring just about everything that anyone thinks fits that definition. What will be left? So why don't you give me your definiton. Is there something criminal about defending someone's right to express their opinions? When you answer yes to that question, consider what kind of society you'd wish to live in. Some have said the right to swing your fist stops at my nose. The should apply to your speech, with common sense exceptions like the oft quoted example of yelling fire in a crowded theater.
I have no problem with giving you my own definition of socially destructive. When a group causes physical harm to another individual, especially an innocent one, then it becomes socially destructive. As in the case of the KKK, they are a terrorist group. They kill people and create hate towards people. I don't have any problem with censorship when a group like that gets the ******* censored out of them. Pardon the language. Now, if the KKK had never actually caused harm towards any individuals, directly or indirectly, i wouldn't agree with censoring them. Even though i highly disagree with their views. Of course i would voice my opinion that they are a hate group and should be destroyed, but neither would i go as far to cause any physical harm to any of them. It only becomes criminal when the opinions become harmful to others. If someone got up and said, "Kill all people with brown hair!" Then i would agree with censorship. If they said, "I don't particularly care for people who have brown hair," then i would not have a problem at all, besides disagreeing with them. I don't see how you can possibly disagree with this.
  11.
What goals qualify as socially destructive? The problem with your argument is a vague core concept; until you define "socially destructive," you have essentially spouted a great deal of worthless dribble. And if I were to borrow a phrase, it'd be "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
What goals qualify as socially destructive?? Can you not answer that question on your own? Different people have different opinions on such a manner, what's your opinion? What do you think is socially destructive? It's not vague, in my eyes, it's simply something that he left for interpretation on the reader's part. And isn't that a bit harsh to call it worthless dribble? In my opinion your post was a little pointless and insulting. And try your best not to defend such hate groups as the KKK in the future, it never looks good on your part. Though you didn't directly defend them, you did indirectly and you know some people will percieve it as such. Now on to the main subject of censorship. Ah, well if you know anything about my own personal philosophies, then you'll know i believe most things are subjective and situational. In other words, censorship is good in some cases and bad in others. I even prefer censorship in some cases. One argument for censorship is that it strengthens the power of the words that are being censored. If everybody said the f word left and right nobody would take it that seriously. Now thanx to censorship the word still has power and meaning. On the other hand, censorship can be wrong. My highschool used to block websites on their computers to ridiculous levels. Many educational sites would even be blocked and many times it hindered education. And of course i don't think art or any other form of expression should really be censored, unless it's main goal is to simply be explicit. It also highly depends on the audience. So, it all depends. Later.
  12. I'm actually going to have to guess that you don't speak fluent Irish. I don't often here people speaking in Irish and it just seems strange to me. And i also think less than half of the people of Ireland actually even speak Irish. So, that's my guess.
  13.
I despise people who steal. Since you're really sure that object belongs to you, you really should've taken the whale back when you were over there, whether it be discreetly by basically "stealing" it back, or overtly, take it back by force. I think this is something you can handle yourself without involving parents. If you think telling an adult is the best way, then go ahead, but that sure is awkward telling someone their kid stole from you. Who knows if they'll believe you, maybe they will, maybe they won't. hehe. If you really wanted to keep her as a friend, then I see why you didn't take it back. But that kind of person, you don't need around. It's worth taking your object back and giving up that kind of person. Or you can be the better person, just give up the object, TELL her she can keep it, and let her know you won't tolerate someone like her as a friend.
You despise those who steal? I have a question, why is it that you think most people steal in the first place? They don't steal out of greed in most situations, they steal out of necessity. They steal because they have no money, no food, no shelter, nothing. Is it wrong for the unfortunate to take from the fortunate? Was Robin Hood morally in the wrong? Now, don't think my views are based from one sided experience. I've had a laptop stolen from me by a Mexican. I was in Mexico, and it was in our van. And yet i still understand why it is that they stole our laptop. Of course there is no way to be certain of the person's motives, i can only guess. If he took it out of pure greed then i'd be furious. But there's no way of knowing, so there's no point in getting worked up over it. As for the friend "stealing" it. I think you should clarify with your friend rather she actually considers it stealing. Maybe she really thinks that she found it around her house and it was just coincidence that you had lost the same object. If she does think it's stealing though and doesn't care then you should obviously speak your mind with this girl. Either way, be honest, don't hide things from her. If you hide from her then you can't consider her to be your friend or vice versa. Later. EDIT: Oh...and the deal with her stealing stuff for real...that's totally lame. You should tell her she's a really crazy person for doing it. Maybe not in those words, but seriously. Stealing like that's not cool. It's immoral and you have to stop it while it's young. If you're really her friend then you should care enough to help her. True friends help friends with their problems, no matter how difficult it may be for either friend.
FINAL STRIKE, 13thMan. 15.
T13M, you are correct in your talk of how humanity grows. However, I think philosophy doesn't grow. It changes and falls back into itself and melds, but there is no train of thought that can be achieved to move humanity even a step further than it already has been moved. We may build nations on philosophies, but just because it's new doesn't mean it's an improvement.
I disagree. Philosophy can and does grow as new people discover and discuss it. It grows like anything else that man cares about, because that is the only way that it can grow. Maybe you're thinking that just because we discover something doesn't mean it was already around. To that i say that's irrelevant. When i say it grows, i do not mean science or philosophy itself grows in the real world, i mean it grows in our minds. I mean our understanding of them grows. New isn't necessarily an improvement, sure, i can understand that. But new is an attempt at improvement. And even if it's not an improvement, as long as it's not going in the opposite direction in an extreme, then i say why not apply it? All people are different, so some may see it as an improvement while others may not, either way it is a change. Change is always good. Well, i think that's enough of us trying to get you to think differently about philosophy. Instead i think it's about time we actually start discussing philosophy. Seriously you guys, let people think what they want to think. Phaedrus didn't start this thread to change people, he started it to discuss philosophy.
  16.
You have to be smart about questioning, though. If you leave nothing unquestioned, you won't be able to get very far at all. You'll become stuck in an endless loop of word definitions and study of the most minut things in order to use a word "truth" that, frankly, gets further away the more you learn. Wouldn't truth be absolute? Or by truth do you mean knowledge of such, in that case a belief of truth? By claiming this, you've delved into psychological mindsets. Sure you should certainly question, but there are things that we take to also be true through a passing down of knowledge or a feeling that it must be true. There are many ways to perceive truth, but it seems to me that if we are after the actual concept our brain is limited to the way the world appears to us.
I can understand and agree with ya there. Selective questioning is what i'd call it. Only question what is worth answering. Hah, but i sure know what you're talking about. I've been stuck in paradoxes because of language many times, it's a bit annoying and a little funny. ^L^
BTW, nice quote in your signature. I don't know how much you know about Schopenhauer, and I know little for the record, but I think I understand what he's saying there about basic will of the universe that we cannot control.
Thanx. The way i understand the quote is that man can do what he wishes although he cannot control what it is that he wants. Desire comes from the external, and one cannot control the external, only attempt to control the internal. I also saw the quote as refering to man's base instincts and inability to escape them.
As far as your definition of philosophy. Anything with "rational" in it immediately catches my bad side. We needn't be rational in order to philosophize. Logic, the system of the system, is so arbitrary. As a human being it isn't my nature to be so systematized. I am meant to be spontaneous and lively. . .So I disagree with rationality wthin philosophy. Of course it's in there to an extent, but it isn't so notable that it deserves especial mention in the definition.
We disagree here, a lot. I believe highly in rationality and value it above most all things. Rationality is very important to me and i try to apply it to all things in my life. Of course, i realize that sometimes spontaneity and emotion is preferred...funny thing is though that this realization was spawned from rationality. Though i don't want to come off cold or anything like that. I like to balance rationality with everything else.
What is philosophy? It's interesting to read about, especially things like the Allegory of the Cave, but ultimately useless aside from creating your personal beliefs.
Useless if you can consider something that ultimately changes the world useless. Every person has their own philosophy in life, and those in power use that to change the world. Of course, it's hard to consider some world leaders, i'm not naming any names, to have any real deep understanding of philosophy. When i think of philosophy changing the world i also think of one philosopher saying that in the ideal society the philosophers will rule the society...unfortunately this does not always happen. Does anybody know who it was that said that?
That's why I'm not a philosophy major. I've found something that interests me, and created my own philosophy about it. I'm not going to study other philosophers, because they don't care about the things I care about. What makes their ideas worth studying, anyway? How are they better than me? Sure, they're interesting, and they may give me breakthroughs in thought, but why search outside myself when I can search within myself for answers?
Ah well, i've probably already said this in one way or another. But i think you're too self dependant. In my opinion, you should value the thoughts of other people and use them to discover more about yourself. The way i see it, mankind grows because we start where our ancestors left off. If all thought was lost when a man died and the next man after him had to start over we could only go as far as the first man could, if not only a bit further because of our own genetical features. You should try to use both yourself and others to find your answers. Ok, here's a question. If you do not believe in absolutes, do you believe in that absolutely? Also, are there not absolutes in let's say...mathematics? Is 2+2 not absolutely 4? Phaedrus, go ahead and go into whatever it was you held back about that. Though i'll laugh if it has anything to do with the book 1984. Cuz i know that's what i think about whenever i say 2+2=4. ^L^ Later.
  17. What is philosophy? The way i see it, philosophy is what came from asking why. To be a philosopher you must question all things. Especially question what's already been accepted as a truth. I believe they cannot be a truth to a person until he or she has went through the process of asking why in their own minds. You cannot believe in God because other people do, you must ask yourself if you truly believe in him and then ask why. 2+2=4 only if that's what makes sense to you. As for the whole casual use of the word philosophy, i don't particularly like it, but i'll accept it. The word philosophy itself is not limited to one single meaning. Now, let me ask you a question. Do you believe in absolutes?
  18. Well, first off i'd like to say that you did not really ask us any questions in which we could start a discussion. So all i'm left to do is comment on your post and try to add to it on my own. Philosophy is relatively new to me. I'm a freshman in college and have only known about philosophy for maybe 2-3 years now. I've never taken a course in philosophy so i don't know too much about Plato, Kant, or Socrates. I can only be presented with an idea and give my opinion on it. My room mate loves philosophy and minors in it, only because there are no good jobs in philosophy. He would major in it, but money's too important. Anyways, we often have good debates about philosophy and apply it to politics and religion. It's a lot of fun. We also have very different opinions. I'm liberal, he's republican; i'm agnostic, he's christian. So we always disagree. Now, i'd love to get into a philosophical debate with ya...we just have to find something to disagree upon. You claim that these "dogmas" are all or mostly lies. I ask you, what gives you the right to be so judgemental? It seems to me that you've even looked down upon those who have strong faith in dogmas. Another question is why do you believe they are all lies? Are there any dogmas that you believe in? That's all i got....try and think up something good to talk about. Ask me a question or something. We can have fun with this. Later.
  19.
I don't mind arguments, either. It's strange, though, to have one that spans this many posts without my feeling a hint of anger. Perhaps it's the demure topic of discussion. I suppose my answer to your question doesn't have much to do with superficiality. Perhaps it's because I'm quite inexperienced in practicing it. Most of my life, I've been on the receiving end of superficiality. When I was very young, I had bad eyes, so I had to wear thick glasses. I was also a little socially underdeveloped, and rather intelligent. As a result, I was branded a nerd, a social outcast, and hated. Children can be the epitome of exercising superficiality. Instead of resisting the social standing forced upon me, I accepted it. I had a severely low opinion of myself, and while everyone else was off becoming popular by being idiotic, I focused my energy on school, and became quite smart.
I'm glad you're not angry. But on the whole i think you've failed to realize how i've felt throughout this discussion. Mostly my insults were of a playful and sarcastic nature. I really don't even care that you didn't answer my question, it's not imporant to me. It's more like, i was bored and wanted to have something to do. And considering i was sick yesterday and still am now, i wasn't about to go outside and pretend to feel ok. Anyways, it's a total [removed by moderator] that kids picked on you. I'm the type that would stand up for ya if i knew you. Bullying is one of the worst things a young child can experience. Though i personally think that your opinion of them being idiotic is probably a little harsh and defensive. I don't know, that's just the way i see it. Maybe i'm simply misunderstanding who you're talking about. I know there are people that do idiotic things to become popular, i've seen 'em and looked down on them for years. Though when you say "everyone else" i also think of people like myself who earned friends by simply hanging out with them during and after school. I value intelligence very highly, and if you are truly intellegent then i'll have to give you a certain amount of respect. Unfortunately there's no way i can really know how smart you are without getting to know you better. I don't think i care to, no offense to you, i just have other things to do. And i'm actually pretty smart myself, or so everyone else considered me to be. I always thought i was a normal person surrounded by below average people, except for a few.
Now, I have a higher opinion of myself. I have a young, beautiful, sexy girlfriend, so she has the most sway over my appearance. I have no need to attract anyone, so the only effort I put into my looks is to be average looking. People still express interest in me, but they won't get even a hint of it in return. I'll give you an idea of how I interact with people.
I find it sad that you're not interested in making more friends. People are worth getting to know. But i suppose that's just where we differ. You're content with having few friends where as i'm always interested in making more.
I'm the one who always speaks up in class. I answer questions with what I think is the correct answer, whether I know I'm right or not. I'm usually right, but sometimes I'm wrong, though it doesn't bother me in the least. I also ask questions whenever the urge rises in me. I've been told by other students that my questions blow them away. I've always been a thinker, and I'm very curious about most things. By the end of the year, in almost every class I take, everyone knows my name, and knows I'm smart. People ask me for help with problems, and if I see someone struggling, I offer it. Since I make it clear with my questions and wrong answers that I don't know everything, I don't think I give off a condescending air. I don't know these people, but I like helping them. I'll probably never get close enough to develop a friendship with any of them, but it doesn't matter to me. I find it difficult to understand superficiality because I don't deal with people on a superficial level. I don't want friends, I don't want love interests, I just want to get on with my life and do what must be done.
You just want to get through life? Gee, you make life sound like a chore that you just want to get done with so you can move on. I look at life entirely different than you it seems. I'm excited about life and don't want it to end anytime soon. I'm always up for making friends and love interests. I think that's what makes life worth living. That and all the other excitements life has to offer. I say live life to the fullest. I pity anyone who thinks otherwise. I'm not implying that you think that though. The way i see it, you probably just have a different perception of the ideal life. I don't know though, you tell me.
Oh, dear, here is that strangeness again. You are aware that we have five senses, yes? Are you also aware that sometimes two or more senses interact to give an impression? I did not gag purely at the thought of the garbage, I gagged at a blending of olfactory and visual stimuli. If you smell cooking meat, like bacon frying, and approach the source to find it is a man burning alive, would you laugh that off too? No, our senses do interact to give a single impression, and to separate them as you are suggesting is a very unnatural, illogical thing to do.
You said that the garbage smelt sweet. Do you like sweet smells? If so then you cannot say that the olfactory contributed to your gagging. How can something pleasant cause you to gag? Now, on the other hand, if you do not like sweet smells then the whole garbage metaphor is totally irrelevant to our original argument. As for the man burning alive scenario, that too is irrelevant. I laughed at the fact it was garbage and it was funny. I wouldn't laugh at a man burning alive. That's horrible and is nothing like garbage. To even compare the two is to devalue human life. If i saw the man burning alive i'd try and help him if i thought i could. I won't go any further, you get my point.
The question was meant to guage one's superficiality, in a way, yes? If I answer in such a way that makes you believe I didn't understand how superficiality played into the question, is that not indicative of my understanding and experience with superficiality? From my answer, you got not only a guage of my superficiality, but a rather interesting one that you have overlooked. You never stopped to examine my answer for its possible meaning, only stated that it did not meet your expectations.
I'm sorry, i suppose i should have assumed from you simplistic answer that you were totally ignorant of superficiality. The only way i could have understood your lack of superficiality is if i knew you better than i did. I took it for face value with a couple of assumptions that you were aware that the whole thread was about superficiality...i mean, that is the name of the thread, isn't it? I thought i was being rather obvious, i suppose not. I don't know rather you caught the sarcasm or not...you have missed it before it seems.
How exactly am I being defensive. I only stated a couple simple little truths. I'm about as insecure as a safe carved out of diamond.
I was only kidding around with you there, buddy.
Big guns? I merely prodded you with the blunt end of a sharp stick. I don't really want to hurt your feelings, but I feel I must be truthful. My girlfriend says you look like a [removed by moderator]. I'm sorry, but that's just what she said. It sounded kind of mean to me, but you wanted big guns.
The whole name calling thing was meant to be for fun. I never intended to hurt your feelings, and i certainly have not been hurt myself by what you've said. I was just [removed by moderator] around with ya, bud. As for your girlfriend's comment. Let me reply by saying, wow, she seems nice. Tell her she has some nice t-i-t-s. ^L^ The whole big guns thing was used to mock your insult at me. I mean...who goes around telling people they look like donkey kong? That's rather strange. I did get a laugh out of it though, so good job.
Well, I have dial-up internet, so I really can't handle all the pictures on those pages. I haven't looked at it since I posted it, and I don't really feel like waiting 10-minutes to load a whole page. I think if you check my profile there's a little picture I took with my webcam, but I'm not entirely sure. That was a couple years ago, anywho. I wouldn't mind shaving my moustache, but Carly loves the thing, so it stays.
Jesus Christ man! Dial up?! For god's sake man, splurge for cable. You won't regret it. Man, i didn't think anybody was still using dial up nowadays. I feel bad for you now.
If they thought you were hot, maybe they'd want to be more than friends? I'm sure you've hinted at this a time or two, and I'll bet the answer's been, "Oh, T13M, I value our friendship so much, I just wouldn't want anything to happen that we couldn't take back. You really are hot, I'm sure there's a girl out there for you." followed by a reassuring, sincere, but slightly doting, smile. They're probably really good at hiding pity, I mean, it's what girls do best. The size of your penis really is a non-issue, as I doubt anyone besides yourself will ever have any interest in it. P.S. If I'm being too harsh, don't be afraid to tell me. I can always tone it down a little. EDIT: It seemed strange that of all things, you would go after my answer to your question. Strange people do strange things, thus, you must be strange.
Wow, i have no idea where that came from... Just because a girl thinks someone is attractive doesn't mean they're interested in pursuing a relationship with a person. I know i'm definitely not interested in going out with a chick just because she's hot. I've told many girls before that they're hot without any desire to pursue a relationship with them. I think maybe you're just not used to that sort of thing...you did say that you're socially inexperienced, didn't you? Some of the girls weren't even my friend, just girls i know from school or something. As for the penis comment, owwie. That was harsh man. I feel like i'm about to cry because of it. Congrats on the smokin' hot girlfriend. Overall, i still think we've misunderstood each other. Oh well. 20.
You are being a little restrictive in your explanation. It says in there 'to be dirty'. Now, to me the verb 'to be' is much more open to interpretation than you make it out to be. In order for your explanation to be truthful, you would have had to rephrase it. "Would you rather smell good and know you are dirty, or smell bad and know you are clean?" Since you did not do this in the first place, or in any of your explanations, I must say that it only seems you are trying to be...difficult. I'm quite enchanted with metaphors, and you will be blessed to receive one. Have you ever smelled something sweet, perhaps a little too sweet, in the air? I have, while driving. As I started to pass something, the smell grew stronger. I looked to my right and saw a garbage truck, and proceeded to gag and force vomit back down my throat. This is an example of a pleasant smell seeming so, but with a look at the source, the effect is far from pleasant. I did indeed answer your question, only I was able to see the entire picture in the smelling good/being dirty duality. You should be able to put at least two pieces together to make a puzzle, I think. If you cannot, I could use a jigsaw and make you a two pieced puzzle you can practice putting together.
I'll be honest with ya. I am trying to be difficult. You wanna know why? Eh, it's simply because i like getting into arguments with people. I get enjoyment out of it. Though just because my main reason for arguing with you is for fun doesn't mean that i didn't mean what i said. You still failed to answer my true question, my core question, the form of my question. You've answered the modified version of it, if my question was the form of the color blue then you answered the blueish green version. Of course, i've said this before...though it seems you still haven't figured that out. As for the garbage truck thing, it seems that you truly are superficial. If it really did smell good then you shouldn't have cared what the source of the smell was. Being that you gagged purely on the thought of what you were actually smelling was unpleasant proves your superficiality. As for myself, i would have gotten a good laugh out of it, but i wouldn't have been disgusted. If it smells good, then it smells good. If it smells good, then i believe it smells good and therefore like the smell. If an ugly [removed by Moderator] b-a-s-t-a-r-d smelt good then i'd say, "hey, you smell good!" That's all there is to it.
So, if I had simply answered "I would rather smell bad and be clean." without any reasoning or logic to support it, I would have satisfied your conditions for an acceptable answer? You must have been trying to make a joke when you said you liked reason and logic. I get it now! Oh, you are so very clever for going to such lengths to deliver the punch line. I'm sorry I didn't see it earlier.
Yup, if you had not given a reason then i would have been quite content with your answer. But to say that i prefer people not to give me a reason is completely the opposite of how i feel. I'm simply saying that your explanation was total [removed by Moderator]. There are plenty of good explanations out there. Haha...let me show you what you did. Well...i'd rather smell bad and be clean! You wanna know why? Ok...it's because pirates like to rape and pillage people that are dirty and smell clean. And i'm really flippin' scared of pirates. Once when i was a kid i was attacked by a pirate...i've never really recovered from it. I can't even watch Pirates of the Carribean without screaming my head off. That's basically what you did, my friend. You answered the question and gave a explanation that implied that you did not understand the true intent of the question itself.
While I am not a porn star publicly, I do have the skill and stamina of one, and a man who likes girls and finds monkey-faced boys with donkey kong haircuts a little revolting would have a hard time being a homosexual. In closing, I will leave you with a couple sayings I saw on t-shirts once (no joke). "My moustache brings all the girls to the yard." and "Guns don't kill people, people with moustaches kill people." I seriously considered buying both of them.
Hey, nobody's questioning your sexuality there buddy. I don't know why you're being all defensive about it all of a sudden. ^L^ Maybe you're just insecure? Awww, that's cute! Hahaha, Donkey Kong haircuts? Oh man that's good! Monkey faced too! Ya don't say! ^J^ I loves it when people take out the big guns and show some brass balls. Ok, ok, it's my turn now. You're a dumb doodie head poo poo face! And i'm going to have to guess you're rather ugly from the fact that you did not post a picture of yourself on my other thread. That and you're probably outrageously insecure about your own appearance. I mean c'mon, who the flip still thinks mustaches are sexy nowadays? I think that if you're going to try to put a person down by insulting his looks you should at least check to see rather the person is insecure about them first. Personally, i think i look damn good and nobody's going to make me think otherwise. Especially all of my female friends that agree with me that i'm hot. Maybe you should try saying i have a small penis or something. Ooo, you could make fun of my pencil or something!
What you should have learned from his response is that he cares about other things more than he does about his appearance (olfactory or otherwise) to others. Having read your further responses on the topic, I am still unsure as to how that does not answer your question. You also left the nature of the "bad smell" open to interpretation. If that was not your intent, perhaps you should have clarified exactly what you meant at the beginning of the thread, rather than scolding those who interpreted it differently than you had originally (and privately) intended.
If you are still unsure as to what i meant then maybe you shouldn't try and tell me what i should be taking away from his question. It just seems to me that if you realize that you're ignorant that you wouldn't try to lecture me. Just a thought. Actually, there was no scolding involved at first. I wasn't the one that started it. If i remember correctly it was Adahn that delivered the first ugly blow by calling me a strange little man. I dunno, maybe you can go back and look or something. Why should i be responsible when somebody misinterprets a question i've asked? It's not my fault they can't look at a question and discover why it is being asked. I mean seriously, that's such a basic thing to do when answering a question. If you can't find the original intent for a question then you really shouldn't even make an attempt to answer it. There were plenty of other people who answered my question perfectly fine. I won't say they all did because i haven't read them all. But the few that i have read were fine. Why is it that Adahn cannot figure this out?
The13thMan, you've been a member long enough to know better than to get around the swear filter. 21.
Who says animals cannot be racist? Ever put a Chinese Tiger in a cage with a Tibetan Buddhist Monk? It ain't pretty. Spit and tiger bones everywhere, it's disgusting. And yes, we do have different words for things to a certain extent. But something that we call an ocellating fan most likely doesn't mean "Your mother is a hamster." to someone else who speaks English, whereas that would probably be a major issue without language. I dabble in guitar... I lack the requisit dexterity and motor skills required to play the instrument, plus I have stubby fingers. But sometimes I take my dad's old acoustic guitar from when he was a kid and pretend that I'm jamming away on it while making the guitar sounds with my mouth. It fools more people than you think. Bass is my favourite instrument, though, because a bass player will generally have to repeat the same chords over and over in a song to keep the beat. Just seems easier.
Well, when i said we can only be as racist as animals can be, i didn't mean we wouldn't be racist. It's obvious that cats and dogs will never get along. Anyways, i'm just saying that language is good and evil. There's no arguing that. Neither am i saying i'm ungrateful. Guitar is great. I want to brag and say i'm awesome...so i will. I'm ****ing awesome. Ok, i'm not that great. But i'd say i'm pretty decent...i can play some Metallica solos. But i'm not like spanish guitar awesome. There are some people that would be pissed that you just said bass is easier than guitar....but i'd have to agree. But in this case i also need to admit to my ignorance. I'm not a bass player and i know very little of it. It's simply first impressions. 4

  24.
Actually, I find it a little difficult to take your implied superiority as offensive. I do become angry when someone pushes my buttons, but you've failed to hit any of them. The feeling you still evince is confusion. Sometimes the answer you get isn't what you expect, but that doesn't make the answer incorrect. Since you seem to want to make a big deal out of this, perhaps we should examine your question more closely. In the first case, you smell good, but you are dirty. Giving off a nice aroma is a good thing, as it may cause people around you, and yourself, to feel pleasant because of it. When you are dirty, it's safe to assume that you look dirty, too. When I'm dirty, I have greasy hair, dirt under my fingernails, and I'm probably wearing work clothes, which don't look too nice at all, as I work somewhere with a lot of oil. I can counteract the smell with a lot of deodorant and possibly some cologne, but I certainly wouldn't be a pretty picture. In the second case, you smell bad, but you are clean. The bad smell could be the result of being sprayed by a skunk or something, as such smells are difficult to remove, even with lots of cleaning. If I'm clean, I'll have nice clothes on, not dirty anywhere, and except for my own smell, I wouldn't be a terrible sight to behold. People might smell me and be grossed out, but I truly think they'd be more adversely affected by my dirty appearance and heavy cologne. In the second case, I've done everything I can to rid myself of the smell, and I feel clean. In the first case, I've really let myself go, I feel like crap, and people will look at me and see a piece of crap. If this doesn't satisfy you, then please, give me an in depth explanation of your question, its aims, and why only certain responses are acceptable. Hmm, a fight isn't quite a fight without fightin' words. Let's see... Despite what you or anyone else thinks about your new haircut, I think it looks really stupid. Will that suffice?
Dem is fightin' words!!! ^L^ Ok, i'll try to make this simple for you. You've over analyzed the question. When i asked the question i didn't imply anything about appearance. And yet you seem so superficial that you cannot overlook appearance in such a simple question. In being dirty you do not necessarily look dirty, you only have the knowledge of your poor hygiene. By being clean you once again don't look clean, you only have the knowledge that you are clean. As for the smell, you either smell good or bad. In your response you made it seem like the cologne you put on made you smell bad...which is obviously not answsering the question. To smell "good" means that you smell good. Go figure! If you smell good then everybody around you thinks that you smell good. To imply anything other than that would be not to answer my question, instead you'd be answering a shadow of my question and not the real thing. I don't mind unexpected answers at all, as a matter of fact i love them when they show up. But your answer is unexpected and not even an answer for the question i asked. It is simply an answer to a different question that is barely similar to mine. How do i know you didn't answer "my" question? Well it's simple, i found out by your reason behind it, your justification. I dunno what else to say... i'm a bit preoccupied too. So i'll end on this note. Mustaches are for [removed by Moderator] and porn stars. ^J^
The13thMan, you've been a member long enough to know better than to get around the swear filter.
