It appears that perhaps I should have replaced "disgusting" with a more suitable "misguided" or "illogical". As for the Death Penalty being the worst possible punishment, I think that it is the worst punishment offered by the US legal system today. Nothing is more final and uncertain than death. It's the most valuable thing that we can take from a person, as punishment for their crime(s). I just don't see what else can be done, besides a total reform of the prison system. Most other punishments that would be seen as "worse than death", are simply too cruel or unusual to be used today. Even the death penalty has been softened, from gas chambers and firing squads to lethal injections. James, you mentioned the death penalty being a way out, for some of these insane criminals without regard for human life, what else can be done with them? I really don't care if it's used as a way out; these are people I didn't want "in" anyway. Should I care if they're trying to stop me from spending my tax dollars to feed them? That's my take. Now if I was only old enough to vote... :whoops:
3. James, Drix, I respect your opinions on this matter and agree with several of your points, most notably the conditions with which prisoners are treated once in jail. However, I think that it should be up to the population of the particular state or nation where the crime is committed whether or not the death penalty is employed. Many European nations have the death penalty, but haven't executed anyone in several decades. I find this to be very hypocritical, as these nations should either take their justice systems seriously, or remove punishments from their legal systems if they are unwilling to carry them out. I personally feel that someone who has killed another person should be subject to the death penalty. It's simply a matter of fairness. Under the current prison system in the United States, criminals get free college educations, three meals, decent housing, TV and various other privileges and facilities provided for their use free of charge. Is this how we "Punish" people in our society? The Death Penalty is the way that the United States deals with violent criminals, and only after a lengthy series of appeals, which can take years. Like any other thing in life, the legal system isn't perfect. Mistakes are made. Every once in a while, an innocent person may be killed. This is certainly regrettable, but it doesn't happen often. I'd be very interested in finding out how many people have been acquitted of their crimes after they were executed. I can understand this happening in the past, but with today's technology it is much harder to make the kinds of grievous mistakes that get people killed. I seriously doubt that our prisons will be made harsher environments, especially with today?s current political environment. In a perfect world, prisons would be a punishment. In today?s society, they are a reward for despicable behavior. In the end, the world isn?t perfect. In a perfect world, society would lock away hardened criminals for life, but this world is far from perfect. The Death Penalty removes the most undesirable members of our society, and gives them the worst possible punishment for their crimes. I, for one, sleep better at night knowing that serial killers, murderers and other evil people are no longer with us.

5. As Jedgar entered the bar, the reassuring weight of his Uzi nestled against his side, he noticed several other reasonably well-respected Mafia operatives conversing at the bar. Not being very adept at socializing, he sat down next to them without comment. Bartender: "What can I get for you today sir?" Jedgar: "Nothing for me thanks." Bartender: "You sure, we've just received a new vintage bee-" Jedgar: "I don't drink." Bartender: "Very well then. " He casually glanced over towards the figures conversing beside him. Having access to his Don's personnel files had its advantages. He recognized Rebecca of the Sicilian Mafia and Petir of the Russian Mafia from their files. Both of them had quite a few contacts among the Mafia leadership, especially Rebecca. He also recognized Giovanni, whose allegiance escaped him. That's what he got for requesting patrol duty during the meeting. Since he'd prepared part of the briefing, he really didn't want to have to sit through the presenter mangling the entire thing in front of his bosses. He'd preferred to walk the outer wall of the house, making sure that the cops didn?t stick their noses where they didn?t belong. Anyway, Giovanni seemed to be acting rather jovially and greeting the others by name. Not surprising, that's what drinks did to you... Personally, he thought drinking was a foul habit. For lack of anything better to do, he pulled out his treasured Uzi and began to disassemble and clean it on the bar; much to the annoyance of the bartender...
6. "Green" relaxed his grip on the Uzi concealed in his jacket. He had seriously doubted that a full-fledged firefight would break out right in the middle of Don Merconi's house. However, when working with the Mafia, nothing is certain. It was uncommon, but Dons had been known to kill one another over trivial matters. Not like he cared, he'd killed one hundred and seventy three men. Some of his associates had killed so many they couldn?t keep track. He was more careful than that. Besides, knowing whom you'd killed was important. It wouldn't be wise to associate with the kindred of his victims, as they might retaliate against him. That could mean trouble, although it couldn't possibly be as bad as the assassination he had carried out last year. There was a certain American politician who was making a point of running Mafia organizations out of business. Naturally, he'd been dealt with. However, the bomb that Jedgar had placed in the courtroom had, along with obliterating the forty-nine people inside, killed a young Japanese thug who'd just been acquitted of murder. Later it had become apparent that the young Japanese man had been the son of a high-ranking Yakuza official. That was where the trouble had begun. He later received a letter apparently from the father of the man he'd accidentally killed. It demanded that Jedgar surrender himself to the Yakuza, or be killed. Ever since, there had been attempts on his life. Not something that bothered Jedgar, in fact it kept him on his toes. What really worried him was that there was someone in the Mafia who was informing the Yakuza of his movements. Eventually, that person would have to be found and killed. His attention snapped back to the present as the visiting Don was ushered into a lavishly decorated waiting room. This room?s centerpiece was a long wooden table, with many chairs around it. It was here that the meeting of the Dons would occur. It was here that the annual meeting of the leadership of the Mafia would set the tone of the organization?s operations for the next year. It was also here that the traitor would most likely be found?

11. It was now beginning to grow dark, and the Streets of Melee Island began to slowly empty. For the dockworkers however, work had just begun. Very few legitimate shippers came to Melee Island, and those who did arrived during the day. Under the cover of darkness, the pirate vessels would arrive to acquire supplies and allow their sailors to spend their plunder. Jedgar walked towards a seedy looking bar where he often sat and thought, occasionally getting into brief and bloody fights. After entering the place, he sat down in a shadowy corner booth and slipped the waitress a coin. He had learned long ago that those no longer eating or drinking weren?t welcome in establishments such as these. As he sat silently in the corner, observing the other patrons of the bar go about their business, he noticed a man sitting in the bar's opposite corner. The man's face and upper body was obscured in shadow, but he could tell that this man wasn't from around here. He was talking much too loud, and he was much too free with his money...
12. Er, let's see... I haven't had any long-term nicknames, since I've moved around a lot, and the only ones I can recall are: Mr. Beetroot - I got this one when I was living in Australia, and I was rather afraid of public speaking. My face used to go all red, apparently like a beetroot. So, there you go... Yellow - I wear a yellow sweatshirt every day, so... My last name seems to be used a lot more than my first currently; but I can't share that information.
13. The death penalty is the most extreme, final and most difficult to achieve of all punishments under the United States legal system. It is also one of the most hotly contested issues in the media, from local to national. Almost everyone has an opinion on this issue, and there are statistics that support both sides of the debate. The whole issue eventually boils down to a simple question, ?Should the government execute criminals?? In my opinion, the answer is a resounding yes. Thirty-eight of the states have the death penalty; twelve have opted to use life imprisonment instead of execution. Opposition to the death penalty in the United States is unfounded; the Fifth Amendment, when taken literally, states ?Or be deprived of life, liberty or happiness without due process of law?. Quite clearly it is stated in this amendment that the states may take someone?s life after the person in question has been given legal due process, convicted and sentenced to death. Therefore, the death penalty is legally sound. However, many argue that the death sentence is immoral. They say that if United States citizens aren?t allowed to commit murder, why should the government be allowed to? Why should the rest of society ?stoop to their level?? I find this argument disgusting; from ancient times people have known that the punishment must fit the crime. If proper and appropriate punishment is not given to criminals, there will be incentive for people to commit crimes so they can profit from them. If a jury recommends the death penalty, the person in question clearly has done something that warrants that punishment. Currently it costs more for a criminal to be put to death than for someone to be imprisoned for life. I feel that this is well worth the cost, and the lengthy legal absurdities that occur before an execution are more than enough to weed out the innocent. All in all, I feel that the federal government should continue the death penalty to remove dangerous, unstable and evil people from society, as punishment to their crimes. This also brings closure of the most final kind to their victims. Most importantly, states are given the right to execute those who have been given due process and sentenced to death. States have the right to carry out death sentences, and until a constructional amendment is made to strike out the portion of the Fifth Amendment that allows the death penalty, it should be carried out in all states that want to use it. Overall, the death sentence is a fair, justifiable and legal for states to use as they see fit. *Tosses $0.02 into the fountain of opinion*

It is armed with three capital ship medium ion cannons, twin proton torpedo launchers, a concussion missile launcher and two laser cannons. The ship is twenty five meters long and is heavily armored; normal star fighter lasers cannot penetrate its thick armor. It can travel over 1,200 kilometers per hour in atmosphere. A Blastboat usually carries a crew of five, but can be piloted by one person if needed. It is modifications are rather simple. The military encryption and communications equipment has been removed, along with both gunner consoles to make space for cramped living quarters. This reduces the ship's weapons accuracy, because the pilot must fly and shoot. Description: Back Row: Opae Front row: Krodah, Jedgar and Ql'ee History: Born on Bothawui right around the fall of the Old Republic, Jedgar Nieta was destined for a life of danger, excitement and service. Both of his parents are high ranked officials in Bothan government, and this gave Jedgar many advantages. He attended an exclusive private school, where he excelled in most of his classes. He also learned practical life skills, including a medical degree and wilderness survival skills. His real calling is combat however, and he has become a master of polearm combat. After first mastering the use of a simple wooden staff, he progressed to combat staffs and vibro lances before reaching the most difficult weapon, the Long Vibro Axe. By the time he graduated at the age of seventeen, he has wanted to know more than the city he grew up in. Against his parent?s wishes, both of which were beginning to lean towards the rebellion, he applied and was accepted to the Imperial Naval Academy on Coruscant. There he learned how to fly from the best in the Empire, and although he was initially apprehensive about flying, he soon managed to become an above average pilot. Once he graduated, he soon found it hard to get accepted into the elite units that he had been aiming for, largely due the prejudice against Non-humans in the Empire. This had begun to slightly bother Jedgar, but he still felt loyal to the Empire. After spending six months serving with a mediocre TIE fighter squadron, he was noticed for his exceptional melee combat skills and reassigned to a Special Forces unit under the command of Koren Fokedan, commander of the Phantom Legion. The Legion was where Jedgar really found acceptance within the Empire. The Legion was organized into small units of three to five commandos, who would infiltrate and destroy rebel hideouts. Jedgar became very good at this, and served in a unit that operated out of Rori. However, coming back from a recent mission to Sullust that was organized to investigate rumors of rebel activity, things got out of hand. After setting the primary reactor of a Mon-Calamari cruiser to overload and leaving in their respective ships, they were attacked by a squadron of X-wings. Two of Jedgar's closest friends were killed, Opae and Krodah. At this moment his anger consumed him, and he reached out with a power he didn't know he possessed to cause the enemy starships to explode. His triumph was short lived, as a Nebulon-B frigate began to close on his position. Without time to plot a course on his nav-computer, he typed the first numbers that came into his head, and jumped into the blackness of hyperspace... Personality: Quiet, but helpful and kind. He is very loyal, but also expects respect. Not a man to be crossed lightly, and he is very sensitive about being perceived as inferior because of his race.
17. As he walked down the winding cobblestone street, which served as the business district of Melee Island, Jedgar Nieta watched all of the shopkeeper's count their hard earned profits. All of them besides the Voodoo lady of course. Nobody knew exactly how she financed her operation, since she rarely asked for valuables in return for her services. Then again, nobody really cared so long as she kept removing various curses, spells and other defects from their property. In fact, that seemed to be the general motto of the street. They wont ask you where you get your money, and you don?t ask them where they get their merchandise. Everyone was dishonest... He reached his objective, the shop of the Voodoo Lady, and was surprised to find a small crowd gathering around the entrance. As he stepped closer, it was apparent that someone had dropped buttons. Several hundred buttons of all shapes, sizes, designs and colors. Bending down, he scooped up and handful and deposited them in a pocket deep within his robes. Damario: "Er, Sir excuse me... You see, those buttons are mi-" Van: "They're his, unhand them immediately." Jedgar eyed both of them, and reached his hand inside his cloak, withdrawing a weather-beaten leather pouch. Jedgar: "How much for a handful of assorted buttons?" Damario: "Depends on the buttons." Jedgar: "Interesting..." He reaches into the pouch, and withdraws a large golden coin, stamped with the image of a large sailing ship. Then he tosses the coin to Damario. The coin was obviously worth much more than a handful of buttons, and seemed to be very old. Jedgar: "I hope that will do." Van: "Where did you get such treasure; such coins are highly unusual..." Jedgar: "That is none of your concern." He walked past the two men and into the Voodoo lady's shop. Looking around, and noticing her conspicuous absence, he waited for her to appear. Sure enough, she popped out of a cabinet, her hands busy forcing what looked like a wisp of smoke into a bottle. Voodoo lady: "How may I help you...?" Jedgar: "The usual." Voodoo Lady: "It is about time I suppose, hand me the bag." He withdrew the leather bag from his robes for a second time, and placed it on the counter. There, the Voodoo lady filled it with a swirling golden liquid, which vanished as soon as it entered the bag. Voodoo Lady: "You have another seven full moons until you must return." Jedgar: "Excellent. Your fee?" Voodoo Lady: "Your life story, from start to finish." Jedgar: "You know that's off limits. Change your fee, or I might be tempted to reveal your secret..." Voodoo Lady: "Fine, fine. How about bringing me another of those unusual snake skins..." Jedgar: "It's a deal." With that, he walked from the shop. Noticing the two men were still there, engaged in conversation, he stepped closer to listen in...

19. I support Gay marriage, simply because it's the right thing to do. How can you be so cruel as to deny two people who presumably love each other very much from legalizing their union? What right do you have to impose your opinions on them?
