Art Twilight is MyLight

Recommended Posts

Well this has been a long time coming, almost a month i've spent on this and im finally happy with it. I started out with the name, the idea sprung into my head and that was it, I set out making it. I wasn't sure whether to go for a completely 2D look or a slightly more Cartoonesque look. Eventually, with help from Hitto, I decided to use both.

I shant say anymore because..well..I dont want to. Please do comment, it does mean a lot, and especially with this image as im particularly proud of it.

EDIT: It looks like Photobucket resized it *hiss* so yeah...*not impressed*

So here it is:

This is an impressive piece, Syn. I think the upper frame interests me the most, because you seem to have put a lot of time into the rendering. The subtle gradient on the sand and in the sky really adds a good level of depth to the image. And the clouds are beautifully drawn - the reflections also add a nice touch. Something about that beach scene is incredibly peaceful. And that it reminds me of Mario is always a good thing. ~_^

I'm not really sure what the meaning of the lower frame is, but it actually reminds me of a night club or a beach party or something. Perhaps it's the pink colouring combined with the streaks in the middle (which make me think of laser lighting). It has a fresh, crisp look to it. It almost seems to be suggesting that the beach becomes playful and exciting at night, or something like that. I don't know, but that's the general feeling I get from it.

I also think that the scanlines in the background add a nice level of texture to the whole thing. People seem to often use them in a way that isn't so effective, but here I think they are subtle enough to add just a slight amount of texture and depth to the image...which works in the image's favor.

Anyway, very good. I won't give you a numerical rating or anything because I don't think that could really reflect how I feel about the image. Hopefully my description gives you a more detailed impression anyway.

I copy everything said in the post above mine. It pretty much sums up everything I had to say.

This piece is really great and you're right to be proud of it. Brilliant job.

Like I said to you on AIM, this piece really is superb. I'm not going to talk about the upper cell, as James really covered all available points, however I think the bottom does deserve some critique.

The purple is a great color to go with, first of all. I'm not really sure why I like it so much, but it feels very comfortable in this picture. But I'm not fond of the strange shapes you chose to put in it, namely the oval thing, and the rectangular bars on it. The curve really goes against the vertical flow of the dotted line and the diagonals. Try fooling around with the placement a bit. The sun and clouds are awesome - how'd you do those? I think I see how...
did you use alot of circles?
Syn, you rawk.

Thanks for the feedback everyone :) means a lot that some people could actually be bothered to comment :)

As for the clouds in the lower scene, yes they are just circles overlapped with a bit of shading and so on, the clouds in the top scene are airbrushed though.
