lo' peeps. I'm 19, currently in college for animation. I do conceptart and textures for game mods in my freetime as well as a little bit of fanart. My style isn't exactly anime, but rather some culmination influences i've picked up. I'm happy to do requests...

Enjoy, and critz appreciated.

*Edit, sorry for the pic crop.... working on it*

I'm going to be honest with you because as a fellow artist I would want someone to do the same for me. I don't mean to offend you with the following comments.

Your images lack contrast and a clear sense of space. I'd try working on your detailing a lot more, and not rely on the computer to give your pieces an emotional value. Your attempt to hide the fourth piece's lack of detail with dark spaces and heavy coloring is evident.

Also the proportions of certain objects are off, including eyes and some bodily parts. Precision is key, so make sure you have the same direction of light and shadow throughout the entire image, and the point of view of the image must not shift; this effect appears muffled in your works, some of characters appearing to be in different plains of view. Also the creature's eyes in the first image appear to be looking in two different directions. Eyes are always tricky because we recognize an individual by their eyes, it is the first place we usually look. I've always found eyes to be quite challenging.

Your third image of the various buildings is by far the best.

I'd like to see some of your work with paper and pencil. A lot of people use computer image editing programs as a crutch and lose touch with some of their abilities because those programs sort of 'fill in the gaps'. I've never used photoshop myself, but I'm aware of what it does, and I am sure it is quite handy. If you ever feel like you're losing focus pick up a pencil and paper, you might surprise yourself. Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Mr. Blonde, thanks. It seems I only receive crits like this once a year.

Though I wasn't intentionally trying to shy away from detail in the fourth piece, I can really see where I dropped the ball. The presence of black in the painting was some attempt to be unsettling and ambiguous. I wanted it to be repelling in the same way that darkness was when I was a kid. (I was kind of a cowardly little kid FYI) But in the places where light is present, I admittedly reveal rather sausagey forms. Given the subject matter, you can probably understand why some of the proportions are askew. I do wish that there was a way of making the foreground character's shapeshifting arm read better without some stupid aura, however. I had hoped that the remnants of a hand at the end of the blade and a blistering forearm would do it, but some people just don't pick it up.

On digital art... If you have a lack of fundamentals I don't think any program, tool, brush, texture or method in the world can save your piece. That being said... I havn't made a traditional piece beyond a study in a long time. When i'm trying to learn something I always do it on paper or canvas, though.

Trial and error, Voltemand, that is how we perfect our works. Keep on keeping on, buddy, you'll be just fine. You do what you do better than most people, but we really improve our skills by comparing ourselves with others that do what we do as good or better than we do it.

Really too lazy to re size these new pieces, but you can view them by opening the link in a new window or simply saving them.

Why they have border restrictions in those forum, I really just do not know.

I named the post this cause your images remind me of thier older books, and I liked them, they also had a game system out called VOR the Malestrom, and I think your work would fit in wonderfully with it, you good and really should keep at it:)

very impressive set up!
i cant imagine how much time was spent to make all this... but I guess the more talent you have the quicker it takes.
I especially like all the vehicles... just having enough ideas is tough.... let alone draw them all.
