1. So far there are only two I read. Anime Insider (I prefered the named Anime Invasion) and Animerica. AI is a great magazine because they are more current events oriented. Anything you find on CN (Cartoon Network) will be in there. It even includes listings of the channels that play anime and what the shows are (including times). Animerica is good because it gives me a chance to read up on anime that I have never heard of or have only had minimal exposure to. Also the cosplay picture section is kinda neat to look at.
  2. Rating: ?? I do not have a rating, yet, because I am still trying to piece somethings together. My biggest problem was when Bear was telling BT about the hospital incident. I could not tell which person he was talking about since they made it sound like the only that "pulled the plug" was the same one that had the bumps and bruises, and had "limited respiratory functions" and was one a life support system to help him breath. If anyone can clear up the incident then please tell me, before I go insane. One good point about the show: Subaru got an important part. :D
  3. I have never seen a real glaive either. I only know it is a glave because Shenlong Gundam (from Gundam Wing) carried a Beam Glaive. I think it would look better if Krim had a Naganata. It is basically the same as a glaive, but the main blade is thinner and is backed up by a smaller blade facing the other direction. IIRC Sailor Saturn (from Sailor Moon) carried a Naganata.
  4.
Originally posted by Vashstampede If it's what the Grim Reaper uses which I doubt it is it's called a scythe. But otherwise it's called a standard I think.
Krim uses a weapon called a glaive. A scythe has a curved blade at a 90-degree angle to the pole.
Originally posted by Plant_Angel What I meant was by the way of the writers making an obvious connection for the viewer to see that a character is or isnt most certainly a Rem reincarnation, but I guess its foolhardy to assume an anime would lay out such an important theory on a plate. If it was THAT obvious Vash would notice anyway and we would have an entirely different story altogether....
That is why this is only a theory. There is no actual connections made, just vague references and random scenes that can be read in different ways. If nothing else this theory has given everyone a new way of looking at things, and has provided us with something to think about.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Rem die in the episode "Rem Saverem" ? Now, this could be different from the manga.... If this is true, it's quite a whole in you're theory Pheonix, but you bring up a very good point
Yes, she did die, but as I stated any children Rem may have had could have been on a seperate ship. Of course this revolves around the idea that she did have children, which was never proven or disproven.
Meryl and Millie being descendants of Rem is a little farfetched, the guy Vash goes to meet in July is related to her somehow, but he is the last link as Knives states over his dead body "now everything that brought you and Rem together is gone" Though the branches of family trees strech far and wide, they can all be traced to the beginning of time, and saying that, we are all related to each other by sharing a common ancestry.
IIRC correctly this site mentions that the man Vash was serching for was related to Rem through careers. As for that man being the last link that joined Rem and Vash, Knives could only say that if he did not know about any children that Rem may have had. Since Vash and Knives only spent a year on the ship (gathered from a comment made by Steve, the big guy on the SEEDS ship) it is easily possible that he would not have known.
If any character had unmistakably similar attitudes, ideals and looks as those as Rem, it would be a lot easier to say, but as it stands I think its very difficult indeed to say some one is or isnt with any degree of certainty.
Unfortunately, the sheer diversity of genetics makes it nearly impossible for someone to have "unmistakably similar attitudes, ideals and looks as those as Rem," especially after five generations.
  7. I think that I would just watch anime up until I get bored of it (hopefully that will not happen). After all, anime is just like American live action TV shows in the fact that it comes in every genre and for every age. Oh, and about being in your 80's and preaching to kids, I doubt you would care when you are 80. I have noticed that anyone past their 70's has gained the right to not give a d*** about what others think of them.
Originally posted by MillieFan I think you're onto something with the theory that Meryl and Millie are Rem's fifth-generation descendants, not reincarnations. Both have some direct characteristics of her, but not others, and often, not in the same person. Like Meryl has her intelligence and practicality, and Millie has her compassion and idealism.
And occasionally Millie does show that she has some of Rem's intelligence. For instance the time she saved Wolfwood from losing a chess match with only one move. Like Vash said in the first sand steamer episode, Millie is smart, she just does not realize it. Both Meryl and Millie are also shown to have Rem's emotional strength. Even in the worst situations they are calm, and I believe Millie has the strongest will because even after losing Wolfwood she is back on her feet in a few days, when others would be depressed for a week.
When Millie writes all her family members letters, she didn't write to Meryl(well... no need to cuz shes right there), and she calls her 'sempai' which isn't what you would call a relative.
That may be true, but you have to consider the fact that they might not know about the family tree. Assuming the possibility of a new generation of chilidren is born to the family every twenty years since the landing (over one hundred years earlier), both Meryl and Millie would be fifth generation. There can be a lot of seperation after five generations.
I think there really isn't one reincarnation of Rem, but more like 2 'reincarnated' Rems, Millie and Meryl.
There is one major hole in that idea, one soul cannot be reincarnated into two bodies at the same time, since reincarnation is the rebirth of the soul into a new physical shell (meaning a body).

Hmm. You have an interesting point Plant_Angel. I have not seen episode 25 yet (only what was on TV) so I have not seen Meryl stand between Vash and the gunman. One thing I have tought about is the fact that Meryl seems to slightly less worried about hurting others. The reason I thought of this is because of the derringers that she hides. I do not think she ever shot someone directly with them, but they are more dangerous then Millie's "stun gun".
This and the fact that Meryl is the only person that Vash can talk to about himself and that she feels his pain as her own (how else could she possibly begin to understand?)
The connection between Vash and Meryl is too strong (IMO) to have been like Rem's feelings. Meryl (quite obviously) loves Vash, whereas Millie (and Rem) thinks of him as a good friend.
Millie has ggod morals, so I can see where youre coming from, but I think that if she were reincarnate Rem then she would have got along a lot better with Vash than with Wolfwood.
Well, that might be true, but this is one hole in that theory that I can see. I do not think it was ever stated what type of man Rem had fallen in love with. It is possible he was a rebellious man that may have been her opposite. Unfortunately I do not remember what Rem said about him, so I could be wrong. This thread has given me a new course to think about. What if both Meryl and Millie are actually Rem's great-grandchildren? I am not sure if it was ever mentioned, one way or the other, whether Rem had any children, so if she did they may have survived on another ship. This second theory has no real evidence to support it, so it will never be anything but a random thought.

I have been thinking about this for some time and have decided to post a theory I created dealing with Millie from the show Trigun. Here is my theory: I believe that Millie may actually be a reincarnation of Rem Saverem. Reasons 1) Religious References: Since the entire show makes numerous references to various religious beliefs, reincarnation is really no stretch (especially when Wolfwood wonders about reincarnation while in the church). 2) Behavior/Beliefs: Both Rem and Millie are shown to have pure souls, and to be quite innocent. Neither of them likes death and they refuse to kill. Also the day-to-day behavior is close to the same. They are both easygoing, generally happy and can be serious if they have to. 3) Appearance: I am not sure if this was intended or not, but both Millie and Rem seem to look them same (to me at least). I noticed a number of likenesses in their hair styles. 4) A Comment: On the episode yesterday Millie made a comment about having watched Vash for a long time. This could have only meant since the first episode, but the fact that Millie could tell who Vash was rather quickly makes me believe she had been watching him a lot longer then that. This is only a theory, and I am not 100% sure of it. Please comment on my idea, let me know what you think and show me any holes that may be found in it.
  12. Overview: As with the other Armored Core titles you take the mantle of a Raven, a high-class mercenary and one of the few allowed to (legally) pilot an Armored Core. In this version your battleground is the underground city named Layered. The major decisions for the city are made by "The Controller," a massive supercomputer with an advanced AI. As the game progresses The Controller's decisions come under increased scrutiny by the Corporations who hire you. Menus: Garage: Same as the other games. Here you can customize your three AC's, buy parts, paint the AC's and test them. Mission: Self-explanatory. Here you accept missions. Some missions cannot be selected and are only opened when you recieve a specific rank in an earlier mission. System: Also the same. Save/Load games/emblems, adjust sound and buttons. Arena: A great new option. This allows you to work your way up the ranks in a one-on-one battle against other Ravens and their AC's. Prize money is awarded to winners and new parts are given when certain ranks are reached. A great way to test/build your skills and earn extra money. Arena Extra: Unlocked at the end of the game. This is a two-on-two battle. There is an easy and a hard way to win, but I will not post them (so PM me if you wish). Mail: An interesting new feature that keeps you updated on new parts in the shop and which of your Consorts had made it to being a Raven. Also has random mail that adds to the storyline. New Features: Non-linear missions: Unlike the previous title (AC2:AA) you will not have to play through each mission. Some missions will have to be won, but others are offered for a limited time. Occasionally you will have to chose one of two missions and the one not chosen will disappear. Consorts: Can also be called wingmen. Occasionally you are given the option (or are sometimes forced) to have a Consort with you on a mission. This does lower the amount of money you can recieve, but tends to make the battles easier. At first your Consorts pilot only MT's, but as the game progresses they start to join the Ravens and recieve AC's, which makes them more valuable, but also more expensive. New Hidden Parts: What I mean by this is there are parts hidden within the levels which must be sought out and picked up. These parts are not awarded to you. Extra Orbits: Some cores do not have the Overboost option, and instead mount Extra Orbits (or EO). EO's are sections of the core that pop up and float in the air (just above the core) to provide an extra gun which auto targets. The type blast created by the EO depends on the size of the core. Lighter cores do less damage, but fire faster, while heavier cores do more damage and have less ammo. Note: Turning an EO off allows it to recharge. My overall opinion: Not as good as Armored Core 2: Another Age. My biggest problem is with some of the back-mounted weapons. In AC2:AA heavier back weapons had recoil, but that could be ignored if your AC had the right legs (even bipedal). In AC3 you cannot use those parts while moving without having quad legs or tracked legs. The worst part (IMO) is the ending clip scene. It does not really leave any room for a sequel to this game (although most of the games do not have sequels anyway, just new storylines).

From the sounds of it I am begining to think you are the one that does not get it. I understood Lain quite well. I said it was confusing "in some parts". Things like how she could erase memories where never explained. They simply said that "God" gave her the power, a cheap cop-out at best. Ohh, and a tip for next time. Never try and judge my competence. You do not know me and have no right to make judgements that easily. BTW, learn to type before you decide to try to make someone looks stupid.
  14. Rating: 5 (maybe 6) Maybe that rating seems a bit low, but for some reason it works for me. I think that reason is because I became bored during the epsiode, which generally does not happen when I see new episodes of anime. I do not really think this episode was a filler, since more leads were opened and the characters have started working by a plan, but for the most part Tsukasa was not really needed. His time on the show was a filler. It did not really touch on anything we did not already know about him and his perception of The World.
  15. I recently finished off two series of anime that I found at my library. As the subject says these series are Serial Experiments Lain and Boogiepop Phantom. I just wanted to write my opinions and see what others think. First off Boogiepop Phantom. This was a rather confusing anime. The episodes are not really in a straight line and constantly link to other episodes earlier in the series. The artwork was really good. I especially liked the "suit" worn by Boogiepop (also called "The Angel Of Death"). I would definately recogmend this series to people, but warn you to pay close attention to each episode (total of twelve). Next, Serial Experiments Lain. Another short series, with only 13 episodes. I did not like this one as much as Boogiepop Phantom, and it seemed to have a .Hack//SIGN quality (only from the real world side). In truth I thought that the ending was kinda cheesy and also confusing in some parts.
  16. To answer question one, yes it is normal. If you look on the .Hack area of this website and find the cat in the character menu (I think it is named Maha) it mentions that the voice is never heard.
  17. I rented the game once from Blockbuster, and unlocked everything (excpet Breakthroughs) in that week's time. I even know a really cheesy way to unlock the Hercule and Sayiaman characters, and make the tourney mode easier (PM me for details). The alternate endings were great, although I wish the one for Frieza was better. Personally I think the best part were the "planet destroyer" attacks. I had endless fun with those. I kinda liked the easy combo controls, since I am a button-masher, but they still took some pratice to time properly.
  18. I just found a really cool trick in this game. In the 2nd "Lost Field" mission there is a way to make the large, aircraft-like AC completely docile. Here is what you need on an AC: -High armor points -Anti-missile systems -Gatling gun and energy weapon (no grenades, missiles or anything with splash damage) Here is what you have to do. Once the level starts activate anti-missile systems and continually use boosters to dash laterally (side to side) and avoid attacks. Once the AC stops and powers up its ultimate attack (the rainbow colored energy beams) dash forward and jump on top of the AC. Here is where is gets tricky. You must land between the two missile pods, near the front. Too far forward and it will hit you with it large missiles. Too far back and it will fly forward and dump you off. If you land correctly it will completely stop. Now you can take your time. Empty your gatling gun into the back of the cockpit, or anywhere else. When it runs out use your energy gun.
  19.
Originally posted by Syk3 I made a thread in Outlaw Star a while back that talked about the person who did Faye's voice. I originally brought up the topic since I recognized her voice in that one assasin main character girl, can't remember her name though.
Are you talking about one of the "Anten Seven" assassins? If so, could it have been the one that was a Ctarl-Ctarl dressed as a human during the Strongwoman tourney?
  20.
It was at the East Kaioshin's demand that Bibidi sealed away Buu. The only reason he did is because Majin Buu was getting too powerful for even the likes of Bibidi to control.
I thought they said durning one episode that Majin Buu had been seeled away in order to transport him from planet to planet. I think it was the Supreme Kai that said it while Goku followed Yamu and Spopovitch (sp?) to Babidi's ship.
  21.
Some people don't have the luxury of being able to look for other solutions -- a sane, stable person can do that for sure. But a mentally unstable, heavily depressed person doesn't have the basic "mental luxuries" that you and I might have.
Okay, this (talk of mental illness) is where all arguements break down. I was talking about people that are fully aware of what they are doing, the result and everything else. Unfortunately, a person with mental illness will probably not have such a choice. On the same note, this whole subject could not fully apply to people with mental illness or depressiong, because they may not know what they are doing. You cannot say the actions of a person who is unaware are justified or not justified.
Dont flash your ego in a thread that is so seriously based on people who have no more means to cope than ending their own lives. lol.
I would have to care what others thought of me in order to flash my ego. What I said was a statement of fact.
Oh, and BP. It's people like you, people that think they can take on anything, that piss me off most of the time.
Umm, am I supposed to care? Most people piss me off on a regular basis, deal with it. And, I DO NOT think I can take on anything. I know I have limits, I know what most of them are, but I am still willing to try. If my willingness to try pisses you off then all I can say it good. I feel that I have accomplished something.
  22.
Originally posted by Elite I have a serious problem with attitudes like that towards suicide. When having hades tickle your toes seems more inviting than life, you tell me the same thing.
The only reason there is no way out is because no one ever looks. There is always a way out if you put effort into it. The problem in no one does. They think they are S.O.L. and have no choice. A person resorting to suicide is basically saying "I give up." They will not even bother putting up a fight.
Originally posted by Elite The chicken-**** way out of a problem, huh? When having hades tickle your toes seems more inviting than life, you tell me the same thing.
Unlike others, I do not give up that easily. I would rather die trying then then to run scared and kill myself. I have to much respect for myself to just quit like that.
  23. Personally, I think that anyone who tries suicide is trying to take the chicken-**** way out of a problem. There is no excuse for killing yourself (or saying you will) to escape trouble in life or gain attention. There are other ways to do that in life, even if they are harder. The only time I could ever agree to suicide being justified is if a person says to their family that they be removed from life support if they are brain dead (though it can be argued that is not suicide).
  24. Actually, AC (After Colony) only applies to Gundam Wing and GW:Endless Waltz. G Gundam uses "Future Century" IIRC:
