I'm happy people like Beast Wars! Oh I forgot about actually putting the poll in the post (duh). I like hearing what people think anyway. I really don't know what people see in Armada. I remember being really excited about seeing the next new TF series that wasn't just a dub of one of the wacky Japanese shows. The first three episodes aired and I couldn't even stand to finish watching them. The animation early in the series was total garbage, the kids are really annoying, and the characters lack any sort of real depth. They have the voice actors of Optimus and Megatron from the Beast era, but they sound cold and emotionless compared to Beast Machines, when they were in their prime (PUN). Is there one thing that people like about Armada that is better than Beast Wars? Oh, and Even BW doesn't really compare to the awesomeness of TF: the movie. I hope they do another one some day.

I rented it a while back, and saw maybe the first 10 or so episodes, but it took too long to get going into the action parts, and I didn't really like the characters too much. The animation was pretty good as I remember, but I just got tired of it. Does it get any better later on? The plot with the robots reminds me of the Animatrix, the one where they gave the history of robots and the uprising. I always felt bad for the robots in Bubblegum, they kind of had emotions or something.

Whats more important: Booksmarts or Commonsense
satan665 replied to pbfrontmanvdp's topic in General Discussion
In later years, and in industry (jobs) usually the really super-smart highly qualified people are surpassed by the average-intelligence person that is a really dedicated hard worker. Also some of the smartest people (booksmart) that I have met in my life don't go to college or hate it and drop out. Both of these examples seem pretty common. I think common-sense and hard work can almost always make up for lack of book-smarts, but a lot of intelligence cannot make up for lack of dedication and common sense. Blah, blah, my vote goes to common-sense easily. -
I really love the books and am a big fan of the movies. I think they did a great translation of the story, but they are too damn long. I always ended up with a numb posterior after about two hours of it. Oh but wouldn't it be really cool to see the movie without having read the books. I bet it would be even better if I didn't know what was going to happen already. Has anyone seen and liked it without having read it yet?

I thought tremors (the first movie) was cool when it came out, but that was a long time ago. The 2nd and 3rd movies were definitely less interesting. I think they were direct to video? Anyway, i never have seen the series because I completely lost interest.

Well, the trade paperbacks have only gotten so far. The "Beasts" TP was the last to come out. I just buy the individual comics when they hit the stores, I started collecting from "the gathering". The collected books have every story in the comics, don't worry you haven't missed anything. Its just that the last 10 or so comics that have come out which haven't been put into TP's yet are really great. Shira appears in: heart of darkness, dark shadows, and again in beasts. The next collection is going to be called fall frost and thats where you get to learn more about Shira. I got really into Blade so I can't wait for the collections to come out, so I buy the comics. I even tracked down every back-issue because I love the art on the covers...plus am semi-obsessed. I wish I could talk more about the story but I don't want to spoil it for you.

Ok, I know a lot of you are a lot younger than me (22), but there are so many transfans out there I just wanted to get a feel for the place. Transformers is my favorite cartoon/anime of all time and it has seen many reinventions. Transformers(G1 original cartoon), Beast Wars(beast machines), Robots in Disguise and the new Transformers Armada. Which of the four is your favorite TF show? Why do you think it is better than the others, and which of them all have you seen? Personally I think Beast wars was the best show. It took me a litle while to get used to the fact that they were animals, but once I gave it a chance I was hooked. The CG animation got better as the show went on and is still way better than the trash that they pass of as animation on Armada and robots in disguise. The story is great and fits in with the original storyline, and starscream makes an appearance. I still love the first show, but Beast Wars was fantastic. Transformers has really taken a step back from after Beast wars(beast machines) Tell me what you think?

Yeah, boy meets world is great! It son the disney channel as reruns and plays almost all day. It only got bad when Eric went to college and one of the Lawrence brothers got on the cast. Plus when Cory gets older he seemed a little too much like a meathead. Its a bad show, but I love trashy TV...at least there are life lessons involved, like when Shaun got involved in the teen cult (the center). Oh I was soooo worried for him. (god, I can't believe how much I love that show) I think I like it now better than when i was a kid.

If I'm right, he's saying that singing pop music and soft rock and passing it off as punk music and herself as a punk, defies the regular conventions of the "punk music scene" . Doing this makes her more punk than the rest of them, if you accept what he said in the beginning of the post. (that was an ugly sentence) Thats what I took from it, and it sounds pretty good to me. I still hate her music though.

Punk music really has weird boundaries anyway. Early punk music; the Ramones were kind of a new style of music, but not really rebellious or idealistic. The sex pistols were really crazy, lived a punk/ druggie lifestyle and tried to piss off british royalty as much as possible, but they were pretty much designed to do that by a producer. You would like to give bands like social distortion and bad religion credit, but they weren't really pioneers. Punk music got mainstream with the lookout records type bands like greenday and rancid and moved on to the awful super-popish punk bands of today. All of which people who like to consider themselves punks call those bands sellouts. Its all mad confusing. I'd say if you consider Blink-182 punk, then you have to include Avril.

Hey, we all play playstation religiously right? Inspired by our moderators name is my next question. What is your favorite video game enemy (one or some of them) and why? Be sure to mention the game and console. Is it your favorite because of character design, something just really wacky or some other reason? My favorite enemy is from teh Final fantasy series, the Cactuars. Little tiny cactus' that were really hard to find/damage. They were just so wonderfully bizarre and it was fun to find them in the FF games. FF8 had the Jumbo cactuar, which was huge and could either slaugher you or run away. The little guys are just so cute too, I always felt a little bad in killing them.

Wow, I might have an original experience to share...I have actually FINISHED COLLEGE!!! And It was very nice. I am in graduate school though and that is really nothing like real college at all as a chemist. College is leagues better than high school, but it is also what you make of it. You just have to throw yourself into it, live in the dorms, and don't go home on weekends. All of my old friends who stayed at home and commuted to college hated it. Its just not the real experience. High school is silly, and you have to live with your parents and take all the same classes that everyone takes. I hated it in that respect. College is the only time in your life where you can be independent and yet not in the real world. Loans and aid pay your way through it, and all you should worry about is friends and decent grades. I had so many crazy adventures and I hated parties and I don't drink. College is the best time of our lives. Having a 40hr/wk job is ultimate misery compared to it.

Ugh, this is kinda sad...You would have to admit no matter what that Avril was not the first peice of pop-punk music. Blink 182 was probably the first mainstream pop-punk. Really though she sounds more like a country singer to me. She just adopted the cliche punk "look" with her clothes, and even if thats the way she wants to dress thats fine. I dn't think anything like that makes her "punk", because even if the definition is blurry I think punk music should mean or stand for something. She just sings cheesy love songs. Of course the Ramones music didn't mean too much either....Who knows?

Wow, I didn't think that anyone here knew what I was talking about since nobody replied for so long. Its pretty much the same way I got into Blade. It is just so ridiculously good I jump around when I know a new comic is coming out, but it takes soooo long for the story to unfold one comic at a time. Shira is introduced in heart of darkness, and he is one messed up ronin. If you're only reading the TP's then you have only scratched the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Shira's story. I'm excited for you...its just insane!

How are you supposed to reply to this post?

I think that realistically a woman would make a good Kicker or punter in the NFL. That would be the easiest position for the first female NFL player. I wonder if the NFL has any official rules about female players, I doubt that there are but I don't know. Its such a man's sport that it would be really contraversial to have a female player. I think it would be cool though. It might just happen.

I stand by my original post, even though you are right (wrist cutter) that it is about self confidence. I believe that if you can be self-confident in the face of the mass-media image, then you are very intelligent in that way. Doesn't mean you are a genius (obviously), but I'd call it intelligence. Oh yeah and I think anyone who eats only once a day would probably have a slow metabolism. (something like your body knowing it will not get a lot of food so it slows down the metabolism)

You are probably really good looking, but the problem is that a bathing suit is only compared to the 10 billion pictures of models that everybody see's everywhere. Isn't it actually really rare that someone has a super slim flat belly and huge boobs? If everyone were supposed to look like that then every woman would be able to quit her job and model whenever they wanted. Fashion and television take a specific look that happens to not be what 98% of us all look like in reality, then they make that the standard of what everybody wants to look like. Its so ingrained in all of our minds that you don't like the way you look in a swimsuit. I think anyone who can be OK with being over the "ideal" weight and look is probably way smarter than most americans. I struggle with the same thing.

Maybe its like in the Wolksvagen commercials...the strength of the arches/domes. I suppose it could be made to hold such a weight. Of course other megadeuces have crashed through with seemingly no problem. Either way I don't think that Big Duo the bot really wanted to win, though I wish it had snuck in a few missles into the Paradigm offices or something.

My favorite character of all time is Spike from Cowboy bebop. He's awesome because I would like to see some of him in myself, but I know he's just too cool to be similar to me. He's super tough and somewhat detached, as well as a great friend. He makes it seem like he could care less about people most of the time but it is transparent enough so that you can see that he really cares and wants to protect his friends. Oh and he's got mad Kung-Fu skills. Who could beat that??

I'd say I would like to be in the Yugioh world as the side character Tristan. Strangely enough you get to see a world where card games decide the fate of the planet for some reason. Also I wouldn't have to worry about wining a game or anything and still make out as being somewhat tough. Its such a free ride. (does that make sense?)

I stumbled onto DBGT on the international channel one day and I was instantly hooked. I understand vary little japanese, and there are no subtitles on this version but I loved it anyway. I am a huge DBZ fan so naturally I liked GT. The beginning where they are searching for the dragonballs was great. It was very lighthearted like dragonball. The three villians with the sound-system vests who hypnotized Goku, Trunks and Pan were kust great. I watched all the way to the appearance of SSj4 goku and great monkey baby. i think this is where it fell apart for me. The battle scenes were so tired and old after seeing so many ultimate transformations and dust clouds clearing. It was right at the end of that battle and I stopped watching altogether. Its kinda sad and I don't know if I'll watch the dub eps on CN, but I know I am completely excited about new dagonball episodes. Hooray for young Goku! hey, when in the series is the super 17 saga?

I rented all of the Trigun DVD's a while ago which turned out to let me finish the series a few weeks before it started airing on CN. I liked it quite a bit in the beginning because it was goofy and fun. It has decent characters and although it wasn't amazing it was definitely fun to watch. When I lost interest was when it did start to get serious. I personally though the silly Vash was the best part of the show and they started to focus on the Gung-ho guns who were kinda cheesy. Almost all of the villians were too goofy to seem threatening. I watched the whole thing to get some closure but I thought the last bunch of episodes were weak. How many anime's can have the hero fight a group of seven or so bad guys where the next one you run across is stronger than the last. Ninja scroll, Kenshin, Outlaw star... I'd say Trigun was average as an anime.

Hey if you're interested in Ghostdog..Its about a Hitman who strictly follows the code of the Bushido. It takes a little getting used to, but is a pretty cool movie. Forest whittaker is the lead, but even though he is tubby and goofy it really works. He works for this fairly low rent bunch of Italian gangsters, and his best friend is an ice cream man who only speaks french. It must sound pretty wacky but is actually a good and fairly serious movie. Not amazing but worth checking out.
