1. It certainly was right of you to confront her about her plagurising your works. Honestly, I think it would've been wrong if you had done anything but confront her. Art is a very personal thing, and plaguising work is akin to stealing someone's child at birth. You also don't need friends that A) steal your work and pass it off as their own, and B) then lie to your face about it after you confront them about it. I'd report her to the dA moderators/administrators and get her banned, personally. I'd be beyond pissed if I every saw someone stealing my work like that. Heck, I get mad when even my style is emulated (which is childish, I suppose). Good luck on the whole problem with your "friend."
 2.
As long as a record is kept in the collective subconscious of mankind, then a person, object, and/or place shall exist. Being so, when there is no record of any of these things, then there is only ackowledgement of the thinking individual, and all else does not exist. Memory acts as the accumulating encyclopedia, if you will, of this reality, and as you pass down findings (by mouth, books, etc.) to the next generation, your surroundings' existence is to be built upon, continuing the acknowledgement of things that have disappeared, died, and/or been replaced. But then again, existence is but an abstract concept which has been fabricated by that which is referred to as the mind. We assign meaning to things in our own reality, therefore do we really know anything at all? Language, mathematics, art, we have defined all of these things within our own subconscious, using our own logic. But is that logic the truth?
I think I see what you're getting at for the first paragraph. However, those who are remembered are those in the history books, not some merchant who lived in Venice two thousand years ago. That merchant is dead was buried and forgotten about. People don't remember what he did, how old he was when he died, or who his suriving family was. He's another corpse in the box, rotting away. I think that our entire purpose on Earth is to 'love thy neighbor' and 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you,' and the most difficult, 'love your enemy.' If we all tried our hardest to do those three, the world would be very close to perfect -- as close as humans could get it. Those who say "Just enjoy life, cause it's short" completely miss the point. Those who say "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die" also completely miss the point, well IMHO, anyway. As for your second paragraph, I definitely see what you're saying, and have thought that myself for a time. However, I think that there are universal truths. For example, we all know gravity exists -- that exists without human logic. We wouldn't know it existed, but it would exist regardless. Now, for something like language, yes, we completely pulled that out of a hat, and it would cease to exist once humans are exterminated. Art, on the other hand, is completely made up by humans, but what appeals to humans exists -- it gives us pleasure to look at a piece of art we enjoy. Therefore, aesthetics still exist, just not the art itself... if you follow. :3 And... I was going to say something about Frost's "Life goes on" quote, but I'm too lazy to do so at the moment.
 3. Pass the hot sauce, please. Seriously now, try and make these more challenging. Haha... Would you rather burn down your own house, or steal a blanket from a homeless guy when the predicted low was freezing for that night? Tough dilemma, I say... hm...
 4. Unforunately, I cannot let this thread stay open. If you'd like to find designs for your tattoo, I'm sure your local tattoo parlor has a selection of designs you can look through, however, OtakuBoards isn't a search engine. KatanaViolet offered both great advice and good images as well -- I suggest you PM him to talk further about where he found these designs, as well as how to decide if you're ready for a tattoo. I encourage you, CrimsonStar, to read over the OtakuBoards Official Rules, as well as the Art Studio Rules. Thanks for understanding, and welcome to OtakuBoards.
 5.
Didn't you read the final segment of my post? I was having an off day, and I just used this thread as a constructive outlet for anger, seeing as it was the first in line when I visited the lounge. I already stated that my normal self would selflessly help another, regardless of whether or not it would harm me. Please, this is an online philosophy thread - don't take things so seriously. Also, seeing as this was an insignificant call for attention, it was I who was surprised with you when you simply would not ignore my posts. Later.
I read the last bit of your post, but the end of your post didn't say anything to counter the "morals are for those who can't accept things how they are," you just said that you'd give yourself. I mean, that's all well and good, but that doesn't necessarily show that you place any value on morals. Forgive me if I had no idea it just happened to be a call for attention. Forgive me for not ignoring posts that outright blasted everything I held in high regard -- morals, self-sacrifice, and empathy. This being online had little to no bearing on my views and how I responded to yours. Good day.
 6.
You're helping my point - by keeping the population at a fixed amount you can gradually add to the room for more people. Call me evil and insensitive if you want. Once again, you are repeating yourself from earlier. Now, how do you control that curve? By taking an oversized chunk of the population out to reduce that exponent.
I don't think I helped your point at all. I was saying that the Earth is already horridly overcrowded, to the point where removing 'one' person wouldn't make any difference at all. You're saying that removing that 'one' person would make things better for everyone else, when in reality, it would take the removal of half the room. Or perhaps you are saying remove half the room -- I have no idea. First you say that disease is a necessary evil, then you say we need a more grave disaster. I think you're looking at human life in terms of numbers, which is a very dangerous thing. I'm convinced you don't understand the value of a human life. Go watch Schindler's List -- you might get something out of it. No kidding.
Hmm, simply because I see something in the Gaia Theory I receive ridicule....
You recieve ridicule for believing in something that has zero scientific basis, and then stating it in debate as if it were. That'd be like me whipping out Jesus in a debate and flourishing his miracles as if they were scientific fact. Sorry if I sounded abrasive, but that's what I meant.
Precisely- it was not on a grand enough scale. It only killed up through the thousands. We need something in the upper millions, and possibly even billions. As for your remarks on "sadness" and "suffering", they are irrelevant to this situation. As the people gradually repopulate they'll forget about the event and move on with their lives.
Truly sick. My thoughts on this are above.
I'm actually working on a science project to control tornadoes and other atmospheric phenomena, but that's besides the point. When did I start talking about "world peace"? There can never be peace, nor will there ever be a stop to diseases.
Well, this entire thread thread is devoted to world peace, so forgive me if I thought you were saying these things within that context. True, there can never be a stop to disease or a true world peace, but we're talking about a magical solution that would make the world a euphoria, not some pragmatic solution to things.
You call me a child? So be it. After all, it is said that children tend to speak the truth. Anyways, you seem to have interpreted what I said incorrectly. When I said "to prove a point", I meant die alongside those to be killed in population control. A little more grim, isn't it?
I call you a child because of the attitude of "They'll see they're wrong! I'll die to show them!" Not because you were speaking some truth that a child might. And yes, I probably did misinterpret your words, but at least you're willing to volunteer to be in the next extermination of humans to keep the rest of us alive that you seem oh-so-zealous about.
Since when did I bring morals into this? Isn't a Jedi not to let their emotions cloud what must be done? (Seeing how you used that last line.) I'm speaking of cutting the population down to one third, and keeping it there for a while, regardless of human sentiment. Right. Wrong. It's all point of view, and morals are just there to provide comfort to those who don't accept the realities of life.
Actually, the "Interesting, most interesting" was a pot-shot at Gavin's speech. Hehe. As for not bringing morals into this -- you're completely right. Your post has been completely devoid of any care for your fellow man. I'm also so ... shocked by your next statement, that morals are useless, as they only provide comfort to those who can't accept the realities of life ... I don't know how to respond. I have morals, but I also accept the way things are. I mean, I'm not going to shoot my school up, as it would violate my morals -- I also see how that conflicts with my understanding of "how things are." Now at this point, I'm not even kidding. Honestly, Derald, take a minute to think about everything you just said. Well, you probably have... I'm just so awestruck that someone would be so bluntly apathetic to their fellow man. Please don't take this the wrong way, but you sound more like a computer than a human. I think you understand what I'm trying to say. I... just... wow.
 7. Yeah, sure, we're cheating by coming up with a hypothetical situation to something that otherwise would be impossible. This means that we're going to have to make up a 'magical' solution to the problems plaguing the world in order to make the situation 'happen.' Without this magical solution to the problems, there would be no way for it to 'happen,' and therefore no debate to be had.
Frankly, this kind of controlled sitation used for ethical questions isn't my thing, as I find them rather artificial and prone to the ignorance of their own ground. Why, we may ask, are we even having this dilemma? What makes either choice seem good or more good, bad or more bad? What is the ethical status of this person I may or may not kill, and this cure I may or may not take? How does this creature whose wellbeing I am responsible for approach[/I'] me so that I can find myself in an ethical situation in the first place? This isn't the right place for working that kind of thing out - but I hope I've at least placed some light on the situation and opened it up to more discussion.
I honestly thing you're overanalyzing the whole situation. Just because a hypothetical scenario is controlled doesn't mean it can't have ethical dilemmas. You come upon a train track that splits into two by the use of a track-switch. Down one track you see ten old people tied to the track, and down the other path of the track is one newborn baby. The train is coming within the next ten seconds -- you have to choose one to save and one to kill by divering the train down the other path. What do you do? (Note: Through inaction, one of the two parties would die) This is a heavily controlled situation, and yet, it still has huge ethical relevance. What is the worth of a life is the question this situation poses. Why are we having this dilemma? Because it's 'happening,' and no other reason. What makes either choice good or bad or better than the other? Your values. What is the ethical 'status' of the person you might kill? Does it matter? You tell me.
Family and those you love should take presidence in your life. I'm not saying disregard others, obviously as a society we have to look out for each other. But, if I had to chose between some stranger and lets say my mother, I chose my mother in an instant. There wouldn't even be a question. I know this might upset some of our more liberal members here, but like I said, only a heart far colder then my own would chose strangers over loved ones. That's just the breaks on this one I guess. At least to me anyway.
The question isn't save a few strangers at the expense of a loved one. The question is would you sacrifice a human (whoever they are is undisclosed) for the solution to all human problems worldwide? It would be a magical quick-fix sort of thing, I'm assuming. I would hope the answer would be yes.
 8.
...Let's say you have a room that only supports 3 people. If you wanted to add one more person you would have to either 1) take one person out or 2) make it so the room can support more people. Now, seeing that the latter of the two options is not very likely, as far as the earth is concerned, you would have to take out someone to make room for another - it's common logic. The earth only has so many resources, and if the human population exceeds the resource output then there might as well have been no humans to begin with.
See, the thing about calling HIV/AIDS, war, and starvation "population control" is that it isn't. Humans still reproduce at such an exponential rate, the Black Plague or the Civil War or WWI/II didn't slow down the rate of human reproduction. I was watching a time line -- all of these events only slightly decreased the exponential curve, which picked back up its slope in a matter of five or so years. The analogy doesn't work, as removing, say one person, from a room that's overcrowded by fifty, it won't do anything. Think about how many people are born -- it's a mind-boggling number. It's also much higher than those who die daily, which also has a staggering statistic (especially to the preventable things).
Diseases out in the world mutate to get around our medical advances in order to get their job done - population control.
Think about what you just said. How many did SARS kill in China? Now how many people are still living in China. Did that disease do anything except make a few people miserable? Did it make China any more liveable or supportable than before? The simple answer is no. Hell, look at the Black Plague -- the same thing goes. The world still continued to grow, despite the fact that one group of people were dying. The world didn't become any more supportable due to that epidemic either.
Natural didasters have their duties - population control. As we continue to procreate at a ridiculous rate, these things have to become more efficient at what they do, thus all these serious illnesses that were unheard of centuries ago, thus the growth in fierceness of natural disasters
I think I should laugh at this statement, that the natural disasters are increasing in fierceness solely because humans are becoming more and more efficient. Perhaps our impact on the environment has something to do with the natural disasters, but not because we invented the computer. Unless you're one of those "God destroyed New Orleans because they were sinner" types who believes that God's doing these things in direct response to human action. And my point still stands that even after the horrific tsunami in the Pacific Islands, the world didn't become any more supportable than before. The only thing that became of it was alot of sadness and suffering. I'm also guessing that a world peace would only mean that humans would be able to 'magically' prevent every disease and strain in addition to ceasing war. I don't think it would including humans controlling the weather.
Ultimately, if I would have to die to prove my point, why not? It would be more noble than a slow, suffering extinciton of humans due to overpopulation.
Honestly, Derald, pull your head out of the sand. It would be noble to end the suffering of those on Earth, not to prove a point. That sort of mentality is equivalent to the maturity of a five-year-old. And thinking about it, the whole scenario of sacrifice of one for the rest of humanity is exactly the same as Christianity. Interesting, most interesting.
 9. If I could remove all the suffering, genocide, injustice, and unrest with the death of one, my answer would be 'Of course.' I honestly can't see what the counter-argument would be. Everyone always tries to say "People need to die," or "If there's peace, we'll all become drones." I think people who say "People need to die" honestly should hop off their high horse. They're speaking from a pedestal -- they think they understand how things work, but have never experienced the suffering, death, and sorrow of the world first hand. No one who says this was in a concentration camp at one time. No one who says this was in Rwanda or Kosovo. The people who say this are at home, living their stable American routine where the most death you come across daily is roadkill. People don't need to die, but there must be human conflict. Without conflict, there is no reason to strive to improve, so we ultimately end up dying. However, if we continue conflict (sports, for example), people will continue to improve. All that world peace means is that people would discuss their problems, rather than pick up a gun. This is why we wouldn't become drones in a world with peace -- there would still be conflict, but no mass-civilian-death war. I also think issues like overcrowding and food shortages aren't a problem in this scenario -- the solution is [quite obviously] a hypothetical and 'magical' one. We all know it's impossible to make a euphoria, but it's supposing there could be one. And my God, jørn-hva Teiler -- who'd you kill?
 10.
[spoiler']The evas aren't angels exactly.

Come on, folks. Let's try to use the spoiler tags more -- better to be overly cautions than to ruin it for someone. Really? I thought that
the EVAs were "tamed" Angels so to speak, and that's why they had the armor on. I even thought there was a whole episode devoted to equating the EVAs to the Angels, in that they're the same.

 12. Well, I'd say that it's very well-done thus far. I'm going to recommend that if you don't feel like drawing out a background scene, just draw the Hylian shield or something -- I think that'd work well. If you really want to draw a scene in back of him though, you could easily use Photoshop to move him onto a bigger canvas where his position was more fluid. Then you could draw a background on a separate sheet (or on the computer, if that's how you do it), scan it in, and set it as the lower layer. Both ways could work, I think. And a word of advice on drawing these things would be try to keep the background in mind as you draw your main character. It might even be a good idea to draw them at the same time. Right now, you have a really detailed character, but nothing else. I think you might've spent too much time focusing on Young Link, and now you have to deal with the rest of the page. Perhaps you could spread out your focus next time? But you draw really well, and your coloring is pretty good too. Definitely keep up the good work.
 13. I was just wondering, but do you allow for others to contribute with funny ideas that might pan out well in Slackers in Slacks? Because I have an absolutely hilarious idea, and I guess this would also serve as a notice (whether yay! or nay) for your 'policy.' So don't be a square, DW, and let me give you an idea.
 14.
That's a really awesome picture, you have to think Sasuke is cool right? I've been trying to learn how to draw for a little while now but I'm nowhere near that level sadly. I can't really critisize them becuase I'm a beginner sorry. I can't wait to see some more of your pictures though!
You don't need to be an expert to critique a drawing, Flame_Alchemist. If you're confused as to how to critique a piece of art, click here. But if you just feel you have no room to criticize someone else's work because you aren't as good -- don't let that stop you. I, for one, like the drawing as a whole, but there's slight imperfections here and there. While you pretty much nailed the shape of Sasuke's hair, you might want to try to blend in the shading more. As it stands, it's a bit blocky so to speak, but you can fix that by smearing the graphite with your finger to give it a more blended effect. Keep up the good work!
 15. Just as a reminder: put in a bit more critique and reasoning behind the rating. I'm seeing more and more "It looks awesome! 8/10!" and less "...but the right side of the banner feels bland and unbalanced. Still, it earns 8/10." I don't want this thread to degenerate into a useless popularity contest where people post to boost their ego. Try to make this an opportunity to fix your banner and avatar without having to make a thread to do so.
 16.
Yeah well, That's not the artist's fault. I wanted it like that. heh. You get a 6.8. Your's is hard to read the text, and a little too dark when it comes to the boy on the right. Please, none else rate my sig, you've done it enough, LOL. :animesmil
If I'm not mistaken, I thought the point was the change signatures and then repost, rather than posting with the same avatar/banner. Aizen -- it's absolutely stunning. I'm giving you a 10/10 on it, and I bet Epsilon made it for you (not, erm... dissing your skill, lol). Great work on it -- it's all perfect. All of it.
 17. Erm... Kitty, it's going to be nigh-impossible for the next person to make things not look choppy without cutting off your half-finished circles. I'd recommend erasing those that overlap to the next panel. Aside from that, though, it's looking pretty awesome!
 18. Well, like everyone else has said, I'd probably want to open up a tea shop (fair trade only!) that also sold books. What I'm going off of is a mental image of this store in DC called Politics and Prose -- very cozy, very artsy kind of place, and there's a coffeehouse poetry reading there once a month. And I'd also like to rip off Starbucks' upstairs internet cafe idea, as I really enjoyed the ambience of it, and I wasn't even at a computer.
 19. Thanks, Delta (stop changing your name! :3) for the comment. Sorry to everyone who enjoys my work for not updating in such a long time. I sort of lost the drive to produce art, as well as the time to do so with the extra schoolwork I've been recieving. I found it within myself to squeeze this one out -- tell me what you think. I seriously need help on it. Click here. In addition, I made a funny little map of the future United States. Tell me what you think -- it's supposed to be a humor picture, rather than high art. Click here.
 20.
What Jacobellis did was pretty unfortunate. In all seriousness, I think she still deserved the gold. If she had done that grab and won the gold, people would be praising her and be like "she wanted to show off a bit and she had the right to" and all that stuff. And fyi the grab she did really isn't difficult at all. It's probably the most common of snowboard grabs... Anyways. She's still a talented rider, and I hope she competes in the next winter olympics.
You're completely right, but the fact of the matter is that win or lose, it was something she shouldn't've attempted. All she had to do was sail on in to win the gold -- unfortunately she did not. She definitely had the right to show off, but she also had the right to accept whatever consequences become of it, be they good or bad.

 23. So, eh, how 'bout that United States of America in first place relative to Gold Medal counts? I told you all that we'd clean up this year -- just wait til it's all said and done. 24.
Hey, Love the picture!!!!! I'm posting for Ecstacy, he's sick right now. Don't worry he'll try to get it the next couple of days.
Um. Alright then, but do you have the means to make his addition to the Graphic Worm, or are you just standing in until he's well enough to resume? I guess I'm asking the question to be sure things don't stall up on this little project. And great work so far, everyone. Be sure to make the transitions seamless, though -- I notice alot of people are leaving off hard transitions. Make the image with those coming after you in mind. EDIT: I changed the URL of the worm to here, so please update all bookmarks.
 25. Actually, if you could post your answer in Class time, that'd be awesome. I'm rather interested in the answer, and the question as already been posed in Class time, so for the sake of consolidating that information put 'er there. All the tutorials I've read on it have been less than helpful to say the least, so I look forward to the answer.
