I forgot to answer the tricks part o' the question last time I posted, huh? Well, right now I'm workin' on hardflips and fakie flips, but I'm tryin' 'em standstill, since I have to practice in the cellar 'till the snow melts-ha ha... Hardest trick I've landed? Hmmm... I think it was a 7-stair dark-slide, 180-out... into a moving car--ha ha - no s**t - I landed it--about half a second before impacting with the car... and ended up with a broken foot. (yes, yes it is a funny mental image...) I was happy to have landed it, though... I'd been trying it all day and was getting mad about not having any skin left on my shins and elbows... so I was pretty stoked that I finally landed it. As far as a set-up, I'm sportin' a Zoo York w/ Black Panthers--suits me just fine...

I guess there are several reasons that are actually tangible enough to explain... The artwork-- you just can't find the same styles and quality of artwork in most American-made animations. The content-- American cartoons are just so... "meh" as far as story line, details, and character development. It's rare to see an American cartoon cater to an adult audience (with the exception of the Adult Swim lineup and The Simpsons) or have reference to true-to-life emotions/situations/personalities. Characters in American cartoons are very rarely hypocritical, ambiguous, or enigmatic. Nor do they have a slew of faults in their personality traits or their appearances, which makes them much harder to relate to than anime characters... because real people just aren't perfect. There are also reasons for liking anime that I just can't quite put my finger on... maybe it's because I grew up with a lot of Japanese cultural influence-- I can't really say for sure.
I hate the guy on the oatmeal box. I thought he was my best friend until I was four, and then I had a dream of him EATING me, and now I'm just done with the oatmael guy.[/size']
Then you probably shouldn't read about what the Quaker corporation was doing with the little orphanage boys in the '50's. Heh heh... It involves the US goverment, starving little boys, their oatmeal, and radiation experiments...
So the question is are you a big risktaker? and what is your view on people who do take big risks? This applies to everyone. And yes you will be paranoid if you worry about the simple stuff like Morpheus said.
Sorry, but this question is really vague. It all depends on what you consider to be a "big risk". Some people would think tricking off a 6-stair (skateboarding) is a "big risk". I think unprotected sex is a "big risk". I mean, when you say "big risk"--do you mean unnecessary, brainless, foolish risk-taking behavior? Or do you mean activities that are simply inherently risky-- such as going into battle or jumping out of a plane? There's a huge difference, so maybe a little clarification is in order.

Strangest song you've ever gotten stuck in your head
elfpirate replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in Noosphere
Oh and I know the song that gets on every body's nerves, but how I remember it the neding goes and it goes a little something like this boom boom boom begin again.
Yeah, you're right, CHW- but when I first learned it it was someone in my band that was actually playing it and singing it, so it was 3 notes instead of any sort o' vocalization. The only thing I love about the song is when you can get it stuck in someone else's head, and then all you have to do when they've finally forgotten about it is pick up your bass or guitar or something and play the melody... and they'll be singing it again within 2 minutes.:animesmil -
What do you look for in a guy/girl?
Just never ever bring up sexual moments with your past ex, that never turns out well.
Heh- that really depends on how humorously it's presented. I've had many a good laugh within that subject... -
Heh- anyone who's ever eaten at a fast-food restaurant is a risk-taker... I believe we all take risks-- with our actions and with our emotions. We tell people how we feel, making us, in a sense, vulnerable to their rejection; we don't wear masks when we're sick in America, running the risk of infecting others; we use public restrooms; we climb into buses and cars-- fully aware that we could get into an accident and be killed, etc... Life is full of risks that every one of us takes. Since we choose to take them, then I'd say that the benefits must outweigh the risk...(except in the case of fast food and public restrooms...tee hee) As far as out-of-the-ordinary risks, I guess I do take those, as well. I enjoy things that are considered a bit risky... such as skateboarding and being out in the ocean when the surf's up (waves with a 20-ft face) Give me a well-packed parachute and a plane to jump out of, and I'm ready to go...I do love my adrenaline high.:animesmil But when I do take risks, I try to make sure that I take them with a certain degree of responsibility. There's no sense in being a fool about it.
Another thing that makes me angry is being around whiny little kids (ages 2-10). I put a hole in the wall recently right beside the kids head when he was whining about being put in the corner...I have my dads temper, alright. >>Matt
It sounds like you don't have as much control o'er your temper as you think you do.;) You do know that punching the wall right next to a child's head would be considered child abuse, right? That kind of thing can traumatize... Besides, the kid could be doing much worse things than whining...consider yourself lucky that whining is all you have to put up with.

Okay, first off- we are programmed to make snap judgements about every new input we face... including visual information. It's an instinct that serves to protect us. Without our mental schemas, we wouldn't know that it would be a good idea to run from the guy who's wearing nothing but blood-stained duct tape and is weilding a chainsaw. Our schemas grow to accomodate new information and are changing all the time, but it would be pretty much impossible to change your programming altogether and get rid of them. I do try, however, not to judge people harshly based on their appearance-- and I'm usually quite successful in that regard. And I whole-heartedly agree with James on this:
When I'm going out with someone, their personality directly impacts my attraction to them. Of course, I can meet someone and think that they look gorgeous. But if I don't like their personality, I will start to find them less physically attractive. Alternatively, I can meet someone who I feel indifferent about physically (ie: I don't think they're gorgeous or unattractive, just somewhere in the middle), but if I like them as a person, I will be much more likely to start finding them physically attractive. So, although physical looks are obviously there and they have some influence, I have to say that in my case, personality directly impacts physical attraction. I know that's not the same for everyone -- but if I find someone annoying or I simply don't like them, it doesn't matter how physically attractive they are. Chances are, I won't find them too attractive at all.
There's this girl that I had the biggest crush on for almost a year, but never had a lot of opportunities to spend time with her. I thought she was the cutest punkrock chic in the world. I was truly smitten. Then, she moved into my house (just as a room-mate). And I got to know her. Now, I think she's one of the foulest creatures that walks the planet... and it's all because she has a rotten personality. It's sad, really... I guess I neglected to follow one of my favorite old addages: Never judge a book by its cover...

Strangest song you've ever gotten stuck in your head
elfpirate replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in Noosphere
The strangest song I've had stuck in my head... That retarded song from Lion King--"I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts--diddle-e-dee..." Henry the Eighth... for like 3 months straight. I seriously wanted to scrape the grey matter from the inside of my skull while that was going on. But by far the most irritating was this song similar to "The song that never ends"... it's one of those looping songs, sung to the tune of Glory Glory Halleluja": "I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves, everybody's nerves, everybody's nerves! I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves and this is how it goes--" (right back to the beginning...) Believe me-- it does get on everybody's nerves, and when it's stuck in your head, you start contemplating suicide...lol. Typically, though, I don't get songs stuck in my head very often. Usually I get words and phrases stuck in my head... like I had the phrase "cognitive dissonance" running through my head for about three weeks. It doesn't even have to be an English word or phrase. "Den die todten reiten shnell" was stuck in my head for weeks, too... It would be nice to have an organized soundtrack for my mind, but no luck there... -
Did your drummer throw out any suggestions after rejecting yours? I'm having a hard time coming up with a name for my own band, so I'm not sure if I can help. I think it would be easier to name your band if you knew for certain what kind of music you'll be playing. (ie: "Mutiny" plays pirate-style Celtic punk) And it depends-- Do you want a humorous name or a serious one?
How do you feel about your appearance and what would you want to change about it? I am pretty much ok with my appearance. The only thing I would change is to lose the extra weight the medications I have to take packed on my body. I hate being as heavy as I am now. Other than that I am fine being short and I am fine with my other features. Even the large scar I have on the back of my right hand from when I had to have surgery to amputate a finger. Heck, even the finger being gone is fine. My RA hasn't caused any disfiguring joints yet so I don't have to worry about that just yet. I am sure when it happens I will just deal with it. Just need to less...round. The plus side to being pleasantly plump would be getting big bear hugs from me. No one likes to hug a bag of bones! I'm squishy. I really am shaped like a panda. (See banner below.) And to what degree does your appearance effect your overall self-esteem? My appearance has little to do with my self-esteem. The biggest stress on my self-esteem has been my disability. Having an autoimmune disease that will cause my joints to disfigure and possibly loose function of those joints weighs heavily on my mind. Constant pain and fatique is also hard on my self-esteem since I am use to being very active. Not being able to do all the things I use to do has been hard on me. Otherwise I think I am a fun person to be around. I like to make others laugh and I think I am a pretty groovy gal. If someone is just going to judge me because I am a bit on the chubby side or arthritic then that is their issue and not mine. I am not going to let them bring me down.
Like I said on another post:
[b'] Do you have a seemingly endless supply of patience (Panda comes to mind...)

I never played any of the above games mentioned, although rolling across a busy interstate seems more suicidal then stupid. Even a stupid person knows not to roll across the freaking interstate.

And it wasn't out of boredom that I did it- it was more of a morbid desire to get as close to death as I possibly could... to tempt fate, as I said... if I had been bored, I would have gone swimming...:smirk: I was rather suicidal at that point in my life...what more can I say?

I used to play the quiet game when I was young. I WISH I WAS AS BRAVE AND AS STUPID AS YOU!!!!!!
Brave an' stupid---yeah, that's me alright!:animesmil ...

I thought of another dumb game I used to play with my best friend in HI... We'd hitch-hike over to the Kona side of the island and sneak into the fanciest hotel in Hawai'i (and, according to Getaways of the Rich and Famous, the best vacation hotel in the world...--whatever). We would then proceed to play the grand piano in the coy pond/arboretum/ courtyard thingie they have there-- the Mission Impossible theme song, to be precise. As soon as we had caught the attention of the hotel staff, we'd start a chase with them, all over the hotel grounds. Any time we'd come up to a place where there were guests, we'd hide behind a corner, humming the Mission Impossible theme song until the guests were close enough to hear. At this point, we'd jump out, point capguns and empty the caps at those poor helpless tourists. Oh, the looks on their faces... tee hee.:animesmil Mean, I know-- and very very dumb, yes-- but some of the fondest memories I have... And no, the chase never ended with us getting caught-- it ended with some bellhop chucking croissants at us once, but that was the worst of it.:D

I chose action because I've only joined one RPG so far, and it's gotta fall under "action", being that it's about pirates. I will definitely do some sci-fi in the future, though-- no question about that. I may be enticed into a real-life one, as well-- if I find one that speaks to me... Why, huh? Action-- because it's action. I love adventure and action--what more can I say? Sci-fi-- um... I'm nerdy enough to have a Star Wars reference as my custom title... 'nuff said...:animesmil Real life-- because I study the world and I think I have a pretty unique perspective on it -- it would be fun to play around with the randomness of real-life circumstances.
So in that case, rather than putting up something fake...it's a question of knowing what to offer and what to hold back. Or at least, knowing the appropriate times to talk about various things.
Well put, James. Knowing the appropriate times to speak about certain things is a positive quality, to be sure... And, yeah-- pretending to be ambiguous when you aren't would be a form of putting up a front, I think... because you could just blatantly state that yeah, you have a distinct opinion, but you're not willing to share it right then...
Other than that, I'm really happy with myself. I wouldn't want to be anyone else. I am not fat and I don't look anorexic.
*heh*-- it kinda sux to look like you are on a strict diet of cocaine and ice cubes... you're lucky...

Any of you care to answer the part about how your self-image ties into your self-esteem? So far, the majority o' you have simply listed the things you'd change. I'm interested in the psychological effects that your perceived faults have on your overall self-esteem.

I need help with a Gundam Perfect Grade..
elfpirate replied to Dragonboym2's topic in General Discussion
Some of the parts are metal. (Bolts, screws, etc.) Is it strong enough for metals?
Yep... sometimes obnoxiously strong (ie: you can't get the bolt/ screw out at a later time, when you need to) -
I really don't know if it's a phobia or not-- but I really despise people in those costume thingies--like Chuck-E-Cheese. *shudder* They totally creep me out. Being on the ice-- when the lake/ river, etc... freezes over. It's especially terrifying if there's moving water under it (like a river). The combination of machinery and water, such as a riverboat paddle or a hydroelectric dam. I'm definitely claustrophobic-- and there's a good reason behind that one. In case you missed it, look it up on the "Survival Stories" thread. That's all that I can think of for now... but I'll probably come back and edit more in, since I'm sure I forgot something (Once again--I've been "awake" for days on end...)
For the school to be lax on the issue would of course be bad. But it doesn't at all have to be so strict. They should NOT ruin a girls life (essentially it seems) just because her MOM, not her, put a knife in her lunch... so she could eat...
Like I said, they will usually take every incident into account individually... there will always be the unfortunate few who are unfairly made an example of (such as the woman who was imprisoned and had her children taken away simply for breastfeeding them). Life isn't fair.

The idea for this thread came to me as I was watching my (beloved) brother throw an all-out tantrum over something completely trivial. Some people are just unable--or, perhaps, unwilling, to reign in their tempers... they're just naturally short-tempered and never grow out of their spontaneous rages. I used to be so short-fused that it was ridiculous...ie: kicking things, throwing things, punching through walls, etc... over things like not being able to find something that I needed... you know--really trivial crap that everyone deals with on an everyday basis. But I have (for the most part) grown out of such violent reactions and learned a bit more patience. I still have my days, though-- generally when I'm manic... I have to force myself to breathe deeply and calm down a lot of the time--resisting the urge to break something--or someone... So I'd say that my fuse is still really short, but that I manage it pretty well these days...(well, at least-- I'm not whipping the video game controller at the closest wall or anything anymore:animesmil ). What about the rest of you? Do you have a seemingly endless supply of patience (Panda comes to mind...) or does the grenade seem to go off before you've thrown the damned thing?

I forgot about video games! How in the hell did I forget that? Probably because they are so much a part of my life that I forgot to consider them as an addiction... I've got like 4 or 5 systems... not including the computer... and I play them all. I'm constantly hooking this one up, then unplugging it and hooking up another one. And another huge addiction-- FILM. I love movies... I watch at least 2/night as I try to force myself to sleep. I get in trouble all the time because of the stacks of videogames and films that are laying about-- and I get harrassed about how much $$ I spend on them. Edit: Another one-- asking questions. I love to ask questions... even of myself.
I don't have any little anecdotes to tell, and what is there to say but how much this disgusts me? Sometimes bureacracy is ridiculous and seriously needs a competent review.
Once again, I find myself agreeing with the Baron on something... But I do have to add that even with a zero tolerance policy, the specific circumstances are usually looked at and they will bend the rules for individual circumstances at times. And I would much prefer that a kid be suspended over a look-alike weapon than to have the administration be lax about things of that nature and allow another school murder to happen...
