I find it funny how the creator of this thread stated we only select 'one' song...I need not make any further statements on this subject. As for my 'favorite': Hybrid Rainbow, by The Pillows. (However, I shall follow suit and say that it is only 'one of my favorites'). ____ (English Translation) A deserted island which seems to have mostly sunk Not found on any globe, not even named Yesterday the ship we hoped for came close but It didn?t even come to meet us. We got a little scorched staring longingly into the sun Holding a prism up, I waved my hand but Can you feel? Can you feel that hybrid rainbow? Even we, who weren't chosen up till yesterday Are waiting for tomorrow Our mostly deflated zeppelin is Skimming just barely over the ground The look of the colors which defy description Will probably be mercilessly pecked at by the birds Can you feel? Can you feel that hybrid rainbow? Surely not yet The limit can't be like this at all Not like this at all Can you feel? Can you feel that hybrid rainbow? I wanna believe that here is only partway through I can feel I can feel that hybrid rainbow Even we, who weren't chosen up till yesterday Are holding onto tomorrow. ____ This is a rough translation, mind you, but the meaning can clearly be seen in there. The song itself, in Japanese, sounds very nice, and that's usually what I listen to music for (the lyrics are just an added bonus). I just listen to music for the feelings it conveys, for I believe words are cheap. Try listening to The Pillows if you have any spare time, and I hope you like them.

In no order: 1) Live life how I want it, not allowing society to shape my views. 2) See the world. 3) Learn many, many things. 4) Have a family. Honestly, that should be enough if nothing else works out. *5) Be Happy - really. What kind of a life will you live if you stand there and moap about every little thing? *6) Save the world. I know, I know," how childish," but ,seriously, it's a dream I've held on to since I was a child, and it's something worth holding on to - it keeps me motivated. *Bonus) Leave my "mark." ________________________ (*) Depends on point of view.

Aside from the classical music of early prodigies and masterminds, I have someone today who simply stands out: Akira Yamaoka. "Breeze - In Monochrome Light," "Sickness Unto Foolish Death," and countless other pieces masterfully blend piano with the sound-effect technology of today to produce a symphony of feelings, so to speak, which are simply wondrous and awe inspiring (to me, that is). Akira Yamaoka is my choice for instrumental genius.
I personally, loved and hated the ending. The plot resolution was fantastic, but the cliffhanger ending was rather...aggravating. I know they left it open for a sequel, but really, can't they just have a happy ending?[/FONT']
The way I know Silent Hill, I assume they will have at least one alternate ending when the DVD is released (or at least I hope so).

I, for one, am not considering getting serious with anyone I date in high school, mainly due to fact that people are still trying to define themselves. "Getting serious" would only interfere with my life at this point, and so I am willing to wait until my mid-20's to consider a serious relationship. I hope my view helped a little. Ah, I have finally returned to my faithful thread, and I must say that I'm impressed with how it's doing. To be honest, I never really thought this thread would take off, seeing as I was just another newbie back when this was made. Well, I'll search for something to add and edit it in later. P.S. - Dagger, that was quite the specimen you found. Kudos to you on my behalf.
What do you mean the creator of the games made the movie?
I believe he meant that the games' music director, Akira Yamaoka, made the music for the movie. That would indeed be correct.

Say something nice about the person above you.

^ Hanabishi Recca, based on your previous posts, I can indeed say you are quite the polite and respectful person. -
Pixie_rich, although this is serious, this is not the end of your life. Simply because you have acquired HIV does not mean you should give up on your life and wallow in self-pity. As some before me, I say you need to take a hold on your life and live out your dreams. Regardless of whether or not you have HIV, your dreams will still be there, waiting for you to grasp them, and when you do, it will be as if you lived a normal, full life, without regrets, and you will be happy. Do not give up hope. Joy awaits everyone who is willing to seek it. Just don't be the one who decides their life is worthless, it never is.

Do You Think About Your Generation's Future?
Derald replied to Touchstone's topic in General Discussion
...I have truly lost all hope in mankind. If no one here can respect each other's point of view, then the rest of the world is sure to be damned. Everyone here is their own self, and everyone here has their own thoughts and opinions. The only thing that is causing commotion here is the fact that everyone here thinks someone else should see things their way. In effect, all this will do is further reduce the stability of people's relations in the future. People will be urging others to silence themselves and see things in the "preferred" manner, simply because they think or "believe" that it is "right." The only truth to come from that would be that there would be utter chaos as the human population gradually terminates its own existence due to its own civil war of opposing beliefs (*hints at the history of religious conflicts*). Humans just need to learn to "get along," as the supposed cliche goes (with some alterations, perhaps). That would be something I would become motivated for, but the US isn't helping with its "War on Terror," and all it's doing is giving rise to more complications, more conflicting ideals. Frankly, I believe the reason they attacked the US is because it keeps involving itself in worldly affairs when own its own problems at home have not been resolved. In doing this, not only is the US gaining enemies, but it is furthering the decline in credibility of its "democratic" preachings. Aside from this, the reason I have not become motivated is also because I am still in school. There is no use for me to begin preaching to others when I still have not come to properly assess my strengths and weaknesses. I go to school to do just that, so that I myself don't become some self-absorbed hippocrite. Once I have come to terms with my abilities, then I will use my strengths to their fullest to see what I can do. Later. -
Do You Think About Your Generation's Future?
Derald replied to Touchstone's topic in General Discussion
Since many of you continue to pick at me, I feel that I need to do something. Now...what was such a feeling called? Oh, right, motivation. I know how everyone feels that they can make a big difference in this world, and don't get me wrong, I am entirely capable of realizing the power of an individual, but nothing will happen if the other people around you do not feel motivated. Nothing will get accomplished, and everything will continue on the current track. I feel many of you are becoming somewhat egotistical, and, in the process, becoming more "ignorant" than me, as many have labeled me. Now, if something comes my way in the future and disturbs me, I will become motivated, and I will do something about it. Oh, and sakurasuka, thanks for defending me once more. Later. -
I usually take the time to read people's signatures, and I like to see what it has to say of the person, if anything at all. However, as Boo mentioned, it is more likely that a small, quickly read signature will catch my eye, but that is just what a human would generally do. Although, as Ziggy Stardust before me, I see it as considerate to read what others view as worthwhile. As for my favorite signature - I have no earthly idea. Later.

Do You Think About Your Generation's Future?
Derald replied to Touchstone's topic in General Discussion
Well, I can see that most of you have had your shot at me, and I don't mind. After all, I guess I really don't do much to 'better' humankind, as most of you put it, but politics and the economy are not the only thing going to waste here. The overall moral values of people have declined over the years, so, try as you might, you won't do much to better lives by just focusing on money and 'the way to govern others' as proposed by several others earlier. I ,however, will not pick at you. I will not look down at you. If it makes you happy, then you keep on going. As for those who tried to defend my point of view, I thank you and greatly appreciate your insight. Later. -
Do You Think About Your Generation's Future?
Derald replied to Touchstone's topic in General Discussion
"What do I think my generation will do?" There is never complete certainty in predicting the outcome of events, but I will say this: I don't care. How can I say this? I can say this because, regardless of tomorrow's conditions, regardless of how people live their lives tomorrow, I will feel joy within myself. I am my own being, I have my own life, and that makes me happy. Being happy is all that one needs to live a full life, regardless of what the world might dictate - seeing the world, learning new things, whatever makes you happy. So, in the end: Whatever tomorrow might bring, I shall be there, and I shall live on knowing that I am happy. -
Politics. Warning--Very Controversial and Sensitive
Derald replied to Yukina123's topic in General Discussion
First off, I do find it quite humorous that a movie on Flight 93 is coming out 5 years after it happened. I don't think the directors care too much. In fact, it is most likely all an attempt to make a hefty profit by exploiting the people's sympathy. Think this is wrong? Guess what, this is the "land of opportunity" and people will seize whatever profit they can manage. Second, your thread so far has little to do with discussing politics, since all I am seeing so far is movie commentary and how others view it. Please, do something to back your title. Third, I don't care for war movies. They always become biased due to someone's point of view. I do indeed hope that someone can find themselves looking from somewhere near my perspective. That, and I do apologize if I offended anyone. After all, as The13thMan stated, you can freely express your opinion in this country. Later. -
Honestly, I can't see this Jordan as a person of very strong character. So, she's considering suicide? Go through a long list of things she likes, and then explain to her, in an cold fashion, that if she goes through with it, she will never feel the joy of a life with these things ever again. That, and explain to her that she has a better chance of getting this "necessary" attention while she is alive. Also, by entering a person in an asylum there is a chance that their mind will become ever more damaged by the very acknowledgement that she is treated in a "special" way and looked upon as unstable, distancing her from others, thus making her more unstable. It's not pretty. Really, she needs a strong character, if any, if she truly wants to feel joy in her lifetime, and you need to make her realize that. Do not be afraid to "smack" some sense into her, both literally and figuratively. Regardless of this, I honestly feel that a human this weak should not impede on the joy of others, and she should figure things out herself. If this never occurs, then she no longer has the will to live a happy life, and what's the point of living if you never allow yourself to feel joy?
...I would have like to see them remain a little more faithful to the original story...
In a way, they did. I mean, the game series' story line consists of a main plot and several 'subplots', if you will, and this movie could be considered as another subplot for the Silent Hill series. Do you see where I'm coming from?
The story was pretty sparce and kinda jumped around every few seconds, but the video games aren't a whole lot better. There pretty jumpy sometimes too and can also lack in the plot department.
...how do the games lack in the 'plot department'? The Silent Hill series has one of the most twisted, dark, and intricate plots of any game I have ever seen. The main plot revolves around the 'salvation' of the world by complete reconstruction (the killing/mutilating/etc.), and, as I mentioned above, it has several subplots which could be considered each individual's 'personal hell', if you ever noticed it. So, all in all, it has one of the most abstract, yet most deep storylines that has ever been in a game. My kudos to Konami. Sorry if I sounded rude, but I just had to take a stand for this game. P.S. The movie was the best videogame-movie adaptation I have ever seen. It has earned its place among my favorite movies. Later.

Request I Require a New Avatar and Bannner, Please.
Derald replied to Derald's topic in Creative Works
Hmm.... I like Boo's avatar selection, and I also fancy the banner that jigglyness presented. Boo, you certainly did create one heck of an effect on the avatars *thumbs up*. Jigglyness, the banner was indeed what I was looking for, and I greatly appreciate that you both took the time to create these. Sorry Katana, although I thank you for creating these, they just didn't produce the eerie effect I was looking for. Still, thanks. Thanks everyone. Later. -
Please, would someone be as kind as to present me with some options for avatars and banners using the following couple of images attached to this post. I would like the first image (the symbol) to be the avatar, remain proportionate, and have nothing added. As for the second image, I would like to have it as the signature, of course, and try to capture the eerie effect as much as possible (and please, no words). Edit: The second file is "too large" to upload as an attachment, so instead I'll provide you with this link.
If you cant function in society and it's really effecting your life, then you should seek the help of a professional, because it could be a disorder.
I find this funny. Why do I find this funny? Because I guess that people are starting to believe that there really is something wrong with me. Regardless, I just felt like striking up a random thread about a subject in which everybody's views are generally already decided because of what the overwhelming majority dictates, thus forming an idealogically closed mind. Yet I thought more people would break away from the majority and try to think out of the box, assuming there is one (since society might dictate otherwise), regardless of whether or not it's all hypothetical. I don't know, my mind just works in such an abstract manner, and things come out at the most random of moments. I'm not sure I can even use words to express my thoughts on some subjects since all I get is a formless feeling. Anyways, this was indeed interesting, although things played out in such a predictable manner, yet I was glad to see some people start to break free from "logical" views. This was fun, but, please, don't stop now as I still want to see more of how people's views have been shaped. Later.
But, I think that there is the fact that there are chemical unbalances. This can cause oddities in behavior, but I think that the person would at least have some piece of mind left, something that would still work correctly. As I said before, I'm no expert, and these are just mainly guesses.
I see where you're coming from, but what is your definition of "oddities in behavior"? The same question with "still work correctly". Chemical imbalances? Sure, they exist, but how do we know it's something wrong? Just because the majority of people on this planet may not show signs of "imbalances" does not mean that others should be categorized as flawed individuals. Where do people get off on setting a standard for sanity? Anyways, I respect your opinion, and realize you are not an expert. Later.

Were dragons real at one time or another? Why not? I could believe that, indeed I could. I mean, there really isn't any evidence against their existence, and, qouting a line from The Boondocks, "The abscence of evidence is not the evidence of abscence." In other words, just because you can't find evidence that something exists doesn't mean that something doesn't exist. I believe that somewhere out there is something waiting to be uncovered.

Hello, I am insane. Why am I insane? Because I fall under that label in society. Seriously though, what really draws the line when it comes to sanity? What is it that separates "regular" and "abnormal" when it comes to behavior? As far as I see, it's all just point-of-view. Did it ever occur to you that you may be the one who is insane, and the accused is perfectly normal? What is insanity? The reason I titled this thread as such is this: the entire notion of insanity is formless. There is no concrete example of insane. Why? Because no matter how you may view something, it's only your viewpoint, and that something may be the most normal something to someone else. I've heard a saying that goes, "The only things that separate a genius and a madman are degrees of success." Do you see sense in this saying? Tell me, what, if anything, do you see as insane? Why do you see it as insane? Post your thoughts, and see what the views of others are.

I have just now found in my old book collection an old joke book about real epitaphs which happen to be quite humorous. I know, "there's nothing funny about death," right? I do indeed disagree, as I will now present an epitaph every couple of days, and will ask for your commentary regarding the selection (and of course, I will comment as well). There are 11 categories for these epitaphs, and they are: 1) Chance and Circumstance, 2) Family and Friends, 3) Food and Drink, 4) It's All in a Name, 5) Love and Marriage, 6) Occupations, 7) The Root of All Evil, 8) To Your Health, 9) Heaven and Hell, 10) Odd Practices and Strange Habits, and 11) Mixed Memories. This one's from 'The Root of All Evil': Over the tomb of a man whose family's sadness was somewhat cushioned- "When dear papa went up to heaven, What grief mama endured, And yet that grief was softened, For papa was insured" Quite the mournful family, aren't they? I personally would have preferred there be no funeral service, no coffin, and that I just be interred in peaceful forest scenery, if it were me being buried. Anyways, it is still quite humorous that a family would be even the slightest bit concerned with burial costs of a departed one. What are your thoughts?

"What took you so long, Felix?" Fayt asked, "How's the situation?" "The enemy is beginning to increase in their efforts to wipe us out. Here," Felix hands Fayt the AI chip, "this is what I recovered from the bastard who I took down not too long ago. There was no pilot, nor was there any indication of radio waves to control it. It was as if the mech itself was alive, and thought for itself." Fayt closely examines the chip. "The program in this chip is that of a chimera, like Thanatos, but it's different somehow. It's much more advanced than when I stole Thanatos from SAF's labs..." A low rumble begins to emerge in the distance. "It looks like they want their chip back..."
