1.
I just got into Amon Amarth, after hearing alot of "you'd like them, man"s...Bleehh. Yes, they're very nice, indeed. Good metalcore.
That is what you just did to me. WOW you can't possibly be serious. If that was a joke it certainly wasn't funny...have you ever actually heard metal core? Jesus christ this is worse than this guy I know who was pressed over MCR being death metal...
 2. Every source of information fails me... What do you guys think about Nevermore?
 3.
I don't know... they sounded pretty folksy to me... I don't know why, but I just can't get into Agalloch. I guess that makes me a jerk or something, but I just don't get it! I can't explain what it is, they're talented dudes, but it's not my type. And let's hear about some Neo-Folk, Jake! It's a completely new term to me.
Same here. I haven't see the term used until today. What exactly does it mean? Oh and face does the voice seem to not fit the instrumentals? Neither are bad but together they don't seem to mesh well. Is that just me or do you feel the same? Obviously gunslinger, Jake, and Kam think differently.
 4.
Atmospheric Folk/Dark Metal
The Encyclopaedia Metallum said they are Folk Metal. They sound like folk metal to me. But whatever you say Jake.
 5. I don't really like folk metal. I mean I think I like one band maybe. So it was no suprise when I didn't like Agalloch. Just not my Cup o Tea. It sounded to...I dunno pretty for me to get into.
 6. I'm liking Critical Acclaim from Avenged Sevenfold. It has a really really REALLY nice riff. Like REALLY nice. Also I like it when he talks about the soldiers dying for pathetic lifestyles...that's something I think we all can relate too. The vocal style is different. I don't know if I like it yet. Serj kept getting more melodic with each successive SOAD album and now he is uber melodic on his solo album. I like it though. It sounds really beautiful actually. Lie lie lie is my favorite song from that album as of yet. I haven't really dug into either album yet. I have still been sidetracked by LTE and Puscifers new album(which is ****ing sex). Maynard is my favorite vocalist in the world so He can do no wrong in my eyes. Oh yea does anyone here listen to Dog Fashion Disco?
 7.
You mean Serj isn't as heavy as System. He is working on a different project now. It isn't System, therefore it shouldn't really sound like System. -Justin
It still sounds like system just a bit softer and with different lyrical ideas. At least to me it seems that way. It's still really good music.
 8. So I bought the new Avenged Sevenfold album the new Serj Malkian album and the new puscifer album. They are all pretty good but Puscifer is obviously my favorite. Pusicfer General Alternative rock goodness. I love the whole album every song Av7x the Lyrics are meh but the guitar is still amazing(in my opinion) so I listen through some of it. Serj The lyrics are great but he isn't as heavy as he used to be. That's kind of disappointing. This is my synopsis.
 9. I am using the Encyclopaedia Metallum to avoid future conflicts... So I was listening to the Liquid Tension Experiment. Yesterday. They are frickin great. Anyone else like them? I was listening to Acid Rain. Their solos are ****ing sex.
 10.
The most difficult for me to achieve is, as I said, the lower death growl. The rumble of Nile, Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, Cryptopsy and so on.
I can do that pretty easily..or at least I think I can. I am no vocalist for a band or anything but when I sing along with cannibal corpse(which I have been trying to give more of a chance since we last spoke) my friends say I am pretty close. But then again my friends don't listen to a lot of death metal or bands that growl period. So they probably can't really tell the difference. I find it helps me a lot to keep my head down and take really deep breaths before I try to sing. I am just trying to be helpful here and like I said I am no singer or anything. But if it does do anything for ya let me know!
 11. I should have settled the matter via pm. It's my fault. I regret hijacking the thread in the first place. I mean what are we arguing about anyway? Who cares? Anyway I listened to Serje's two songs he has on his myspace. I am setting expectations to high.
 12. Well System of a Down got me into Rock period. I used to be a Hip hop head(and in some ways I still am). they had a sound that was just strange enough to get me interested. So I am gonna pick this up no matter what.
 13.
And for the sake of the thread, we might just as well avert the topic to something else so Avenged will stop his rambling. >_>
Riiiight my rambling. Whatever if your gonna start and argument and punk out of it I don't care. What's the album called? The new one by Serj?
 14.
You have a big Jake problem and that's that. You keep rambing about it, and it's making people mad, and they're getting sick of it. I know I am. I know now how stupid I was, and now I see what a moron I am.
You brought him up not me. And I don't think that wikipedia is always wrong about this sort of thing. I mean were talking about music here not science or math. You can't prove that whatever the hell band is whatever the hell genre because some other guy made up the name and decided what it would sound like. Also I said I have no problem with the guy. Did you read my post at all?
 15.
Dude I read wiki, and that's where I found this... Dude, you just quoted Wikipedia. Don't go on wiki, anyone can edit that ****. So if chances are someone without any knowledge of the genre could have edited it. Listen to Jake, DON'T WIKI! Just thought I'd point that out. I checked wiki because I had the feeling that's where you got the info.
A. Jake didn't put his 2 cents in on the subject. B. Since when is Jake the God of all things musical? So since people can edit wikipedia I should go with ONE GUYS opinion(no matter how informed it may be) instead? He may be a respected member but we don't need to kiss hiss *** at every goddamn turn... /end rant P.S I have nothing against you Jake and you are right most of the time but I don't like the mentality of you>everything else.
 16.
It doesn't matter if you like The Locust or not. There's so many better examples (anything would be better, pretty much) to use and you picked them. Also, you'll find that it does not matter what a band says they play, just like you, musicians are horribly disillusioned as to what genre they play. They might set out to play mathcore, but that is NOT what comes out of their amps, I'm sorry. I'm getting sick of this. "I like this band so they must be (metal / whatever genre I like the name of at the time)." "I hate this band, so they must be (emo / nu-metal)."
Sorry...I was just going by the band. I figured that was a reliable source. And where was I doing that?
 17.
Woah, woah, WOAH. I haven't heard too much Curl Up and Die, they're terrible, but I believe you're right in calling them metalcore. The Locust is a mixture of Speed Punk and Grindcore. I have no idea how you can hear The Locust's music and think anything even vaguely metal-related. And... Mudvayne? Metalcore?! WHAT?! For a good idea of what metalcore is, check out Botch. They do it and they do it RIGHT. For a good idea of Mathcore, there can only be one: The Dillinger Escape Plan. They're all over this thread, it's really funny. In fact their whole new album is up on their myspace right now. Mathcore bands that are also of note are The Number Twelve Looks Like You and Daughters. Neither of those are totally mathcore though and borrow ideas from some other genres, but mathcore is a vague genre anyway.
Curl up and die is funny. The locust I really don't like I threw them in for the sake of argument. And since Mudvayne said they are mathcore which his a sub genre of metal core(I think?) I figured it would be safe to say they are metalcore..is that a no then? They are still great though... I checked out dillinger...they were kind of meh to me. Maybe I will re valuate them. right now I am listening to carcass. I haven't listened to much grindcore before now but these guys seems promising. I might check out more grindcore.
 18.
I don't really like Mudvayne, and for the record, they're not Metalcore, they're Nu-Metal. But the new album For the People By the People looks interesting. Dull Boy is actually a good Mudvayne song.

Mudvayne are an American alternative metal band. Their music has been described by drummer Matthew McDonough as math metal

Mathcore (also known as technical metalcore, technical hardcore, and math metal) is a style of metalcore recognized for a high level of technical musicianship.
Um riiight.
 19. @ Whoa, Mann You didn't think anyone would notice that you copied his list almost exactly? On topic...sorta...Mathcore is a subsubgenre of metal core right? I really enjoy the few metalcore bands I heard(curl up and die,the locust, mudvayne).
 20.
Sorta. I don't feel like explaining it more. Kam, you handle this. As far as vocal technique goes, I think death growls are the easiest, but black metal screeches are the most fun and most pleasing to the ears. I want to get my harsh vocals to sound like John Haughm of Agalloch. I think he has the most perfect harsh vocal. He and Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth, albeit in a very different style. I hate "inhale" vocals (you know, the whole 'bree bree or or" thing).
Whatever Acid Bath does that is my favorite kind of vocals...you know that thing they do...It's like growling screaming and singing beautifully all at once.
 21.
It's like Jake said, man. Industrial isn't ever a stand alone style of music. Industrial is more like a...flavor of music. Say you have lollipops, ice cream, and candy coated peanuts. All three can share a flavor, say, cinnamon. But cinnamon isn't a candy you eat by itself, it's a flavor. Industrial is something certain musicians of various genres choose to incorporate into their music to set it apart from other musicians in those genres. You have metal. You have rock. You have industrial metal. You have industrial rock. You don't have metal industrial, or rock industrial. Industrial is always the adjective. That's what makes sub genres. That make sense? -Justin
So Industrial metal is a subgenre of metal then? And Industrial is not a genre in and of itself but a type of a genre. Like progressive is not a genre but progressive rock is? I think I sorta understand if that is correct.
 22.
What band are you talking about, bro? It'd probably be easier to give you a fair guesstimate of their sound if we could hear their stuff. -Justin
No one specifically. I was just going through wiki and it has a whole genre of "industrial metal" which it says a subgenre of metal. So I look up the band and they are either heavy industrial music or doom/death metal with electonica thrown in.
 23.
Industrial. Now, industrial can be combined with rock and metal, but Industrial is it's own genre. For example, Rammstein is Industrial and Rock ("Industrial Rock"), but Industrial is not a form of Rock music. Make sense? Kam, I'll respond when I have more time.
So what if a band starts out as a metal band but then slowly adds industrial sounds and such to their music they will still be considered a metal band as long as the core of their sound is metal right?
 24. I have a question...is industrial metal a sub genre or Metal or Industrial music?
 25.
You can look up Bravo's top 100 scariest movie moments and pick from there if you can't get any more ideas. :)
That was my inspiration of this thread! I was kinda looking for something not from there. Iv'e seen a it a couple times so I have an idea of what I wanna see from that.(the last house on the left, pet cemetery, and rosemary's baby)
