1.
I was wondering if there was a possibility of making some (or all) of your past posts private, like something you don't want others to read.
Ashamed of your past, eh? ;P Don't worry, most of us have posted something utterly embarrasing in the past, and it is those posts that have taught us what is good quality and what is not. The only way you can prevent others from viewing your old posts is to delete them - but why bother?
2. Question: why aren't the students allowed to keep contact to their families? In my sign-up, I mentioned visits from my character's father, and her speaking with him over "a communicator". Isn't that alright? Also, I would very much like if we could explore the school-life a bit more, let the relationships really build up and stuff before the Final Exam. And isn't it correct that not all of our characters are at the age of taking part to the exam? Wasn't it supposed to be in the year you turn 18? These are just a few questions I have...
3. First of all, I have to say this is amazing: I've been thinking of creating an RPG about an Academy of Battle & Magic too, ever since they released the artwork from Final Fantasy XIII Agito. But I'm honestly glad somebody else made this, so I can just participate without the trouble of creating things from the scratch. Just have to compliment you, Doublehex, on your very detailed background information - we rarely see anything on that scale here. ;D Now, onto my sign-up... ~~~~~~ Name - Carrot Burnheart Age - 18 Student Template - The Fiery Redhead Weapon - Mace, an ornamental bludgeon that can also be used to channel magic. The flame restores some health to an injured person. It is said to originate from the spirit of a firebird. Ashes to Ashes (Fire Magic) - Incarcerates organic objects with the power of intense focused heat. It is forbidden to use the spell against humans.
Personality - Carrot is every bit as hot-headed as the color of her hair implies. She has always felt the need to defend her behaviour and actions to others, so she gets easily agitated if somebody says a wrong word to her. Alas, her aggressive attitude towards others has left her lonely without any real friends. She has decided to put her full focus on the school instead of social relationships like so many others of her age. Physical appearance -
Uniform and weapon - Leisure outfit -
Character Snippet Late at night, Carrot Burnheart wandered back to the memories of her early childhood. She didn't remember much, just all the whiteness everywhere, the steady, bleeping sounds coming from squares of light... and Dad. When she closed her eyes really tight, Carrot could see Dad's figure, smiling gently down on her. Professor Burnheart was a nice, amicable man with fair hair and a big smile. He had tugged Carrot in every single night during the five years they had lived together, before she was sent away. Many people had the impression that since Carrot had grown up in a laboratory, her childhood must've been horrible. But they were wrong, because to Carrot, it had been the best time of her life so far. She had gotten everything she wanted and needed carried in front of her on a silver platter. She vaguely remembered an incident when she hadn't gotten what she wanted. After that, there had been smoke everywhere, and she had smelled something strange, like overcooked meat... Carrot didn't want to go any further on that train of thought, so she returned to the image of Dad. She hadn't seen him in an year. Dad had explained over the communicator that he had been caught up with work, that MENRA wasn't the most generous of employers when it came to freetime. Excuses, Carrot thought. Dad just didn't want to see her anymore. Maybe he had gotten another child, someone else to pamper and to hold dear. Another guinea pig, just like she had been. These thoughts riled her up so that she aimed her frustration to a fluffy teddybear sitting on her sidetable and burned it to ashes by uttering a few simple words. Then she went to sleep.

Characters

There aren't any RPGs here that I can name that would have many characters that all the players would control. Tamers v2 was like that, but that's history by now... What comes to precreated characters, I've noticed that by a trend, if given an option to choose, people prefer to create a character of their own - which is totally understandable because they want to really relate to their "avatar". So as a hint, if you want people to use precreated characters in your games, don't leave space for original characters. As for me, I get easily attached to my own characters, but it would be nice for a change to play a precreated one, or even multiple ones in the same game.
5. Sheesh, people come up with the answers so fast... X( Some of these riddles are pure genius, by the way, such as #7 of the last bunch - it's so obvious what the answer is after you hear it! ;P By my calculations all of the riddles have been given an applicable answer already, except that I'd like to take the liberty of widening the answer to the first one a bit. So... #1: the whole OB Staff
6. Heh, I wasn't trying to take away Joko's right to do whatever he wants with his game, I was just asking a question (and presenting my opinion)! We're resolving this over PMs, I just hope nothing gets blown out of proportion here...
7. I don't get it... Why did you create all of the digivolution lines? Can't anybody sign-up with anything else? Aren't you being just a tad too controlling? If I were to join a Digimon RPG, I for one would want to pick up my own partner... :/ Just the old Digimon-fan inside me speaking here...
8. Welcome to the boards, madwitch5! Before you start creating RPGs here, you should read the sticky about Adventure Arena Basics thoroughly. Once you have, you will learn that we require a few specific things from our games, that the writing is legible and has a good grammar, that an appropriate rating would be put to the headline, and that the introduction would be at least three paragraphs long. In your case your grammar as well as your background story are both very lacking, so I'd suggest you work on both of them. I'm going to have to close this thread, but feel free to recreate it once it's meets the requirements. And if any more questions arise, we mods are only a PM away! Thanks! - Sandy PS. As a devoted Final Fantasy fan, I see nothing even remotely FF-ish in this game, so please don't try to attract players to your game by using a famous title if there's no base to it. *thread closed*
9. So you are basically asking for a thread were people can correct someone's grammar and writing style. But what does that has to do with RPGs, silver_blade? If you don't want it to go as far as rewriting stuff, I don't even see why such a thread would be even needed. We could very well just have a few "grammar nazis" patrolling the boards in search of bad typing. Because this discussion has gone beyond RPGs, I'd suggest Jokopoko would move this to the Suggestions&Feedback forum.
10. I think this idea is refinable, but if we get to the bottom of the problem, poor grammar is rarely a sign of stupidity - it's a sign of laziness. Some people just seem to typetypetype, trying to get over it as fast as possible, and then maybe they put a pathetic note to the end such as "sory for teh typoes". :P My advice to all of you who are struggling with writing is: focus on what you're doing! I know we live in an ADHD-type of world, but seriously, typing carefully isn't an impossible feat and it will only take you a few extra minutes. Of course it's not easy for non-English speakers to know every single word and phrase correctly, but I'm a living example that one can learn that too. But I digress. If somebody wants to start proofreading RPGs before they are launched, be my guest, but I don't think anyone will stick to it for very long... :/ Besides, wouldn't it only discourage the poor quality writers to even try to write better?
11.
If you and someone else end up fighting over an object, I will take and keep it. I wouldn't mind a PSP, or I could give anything teddy bear-like to my 4-year-old niece.
Seriously, that's stealing. You can confiscate objects, and give them to the kids' parents after the day/camp, but you have no right keeping them to yourself. I know you're being only half-serious, but if you hate kids and their behaviour as much as you seem to, why do you even work with them? :/
12. Well, technically speaking Nifty Fifty isn't exactly the same as the former Otaku Awards, but still it lists the best stuff OB had to offer during the past year, so basically it has the same purpose. As for the name, you will have to ask that from Shy, who invented it. But I reckon it comes from the listing of fifty things that are nifty - and it rhymes. ;D
13. Actually, there already exist the annual Nifty Fifty awards (formerly known as Otaku Awards), which take place in the Community Events section (go check it out if you will). Every year there's been an award for the best RPG as well, so it would be very pointless for us to organize a ceremony of our own here.
14. Gah, so hard... X( Been using the search function for half an hour with no prevail. Just have to go with my gut here... #6
Soft and sweet We may only be controlled by a feminine touch and a sword.
Answer: screennames (can only be controlled by Dagger and Desbreko)
15. Sorry, Deathsye, but if you want to relaunch a sign-up thread, please create a new one instead of posting it into an old one. Besides, your game needs a bit more backstory in order to get approved (three paragraphs does not mean three separated lines) so please add that if you're going to recreate this. - Sandy *thread closed*
16. I think it's time to bring up the good old advice to anybody seeking information in the internet: "If you don't know it, google it." Anyhow, in my opinion deviantART is a great place for all budding artists to show off their works. I'm not a member myself, but I've paid the site a few visits, and found out that scraping off the rather pretentious surface one can find true masterpieces there.

18. Those kind of authority problems rise from nowhere else than lazy upbringing. It's apparent that those kids have always gotten their way in everything, and it's their parents' blame. Spoiling your child does not do him/her even a bit good, it's always bad. Rewards and treats should be given only when deserved, not to make tantrums stop or to get the kid to shut up. I'm not a parent and with my orientation I most likely won't ever be, but I know these things because I study Social Care. Bringing up children is not a wondrous effort that takes a professional to do, it just takes a whole lot of common sense.
19. Well, I've had a long-ish experience in working at daycare. The Finnish system might differ from yours in many other ways as well, but the kindergartens here actually have rules for almost everything. They might vary slightly between facilities, but here all kindergartens must do an "early upbringing plan" (translated literally) where the staff writes down all the aims, goals, means and rules they are using in their work. It's good to have common consensus about rules in places like daycare, but everything should not be so strictly regulated. For example, your rule about no toys from home... you base it upon materialism (you list everything that could happen to the toy!), and forget the educational point-of-view (what pros or cons it has to children). In the kindergartens I worked in they had "bring a toy from home" days, where children had the chance to present their cherished toys to each other and play together with them. The familiar item from home gives the kids feelings of comfort and security while their parents are away, so there is definitely benefits related to them. If you continue working with kids, you should learn to see things more from their perspective instead of the all-knowing adult's. The well-being of toys shouldn't be more important than the well-being of children. And if the toy gets broken/stolen/taken away, the kid will most likely learn to take better care of his/her belongings.
20. I just got to ask this: have you taken your prescribed medicines today? You can't really be so ignorant that you didn't know New Zealand is inhabited by civilized people living in a westernish society, just like their close neighbors, Australians. :/ And all that talk about hidden elf societies... You should really seek professional help, or just quit being a troll. *leaves this to his Otaku Lounge colleagues-in-moderation*
21. Pfft, stop complaining over there! In Europe, almost all new games cost 59,99 euros, which in dollars is something like 76,50$. ;P The prices have been like that for years, and they include games from all consoles except PC (which are like ten euros cheaper). What's worse, Sony has decided to convert the price of PS3 to euros with the most simple formula: the console will cost 499,99 ? - 599,99 ? here, which in dollars would be about 640,00 $ - 765,00 $. Talking about currency values... XP I mean, would you pay that much for a console?
22. Welcome to the Arena, mangamaniack21! Now before you rush to create an RPG here, you should read the instructions you can find in this sticky. It should help you get an idea of exactly what we want our games to be like. Take your time learning how things work around here, and then try again. Thanks! - Sandy *thread closed*
23. Sorry, but this game should've stayed dead. I'm closing this for obvious reasons that have everything to do with quality. *thread closed*
24.
Apparently you balance out the difficulty through weapons upgrades and limit breaks. Also, as the enemies higher in level, they learn new attacks. Fire is weaker than Firaga no matter what level you're at. Even a lot of bosses end up underpowered at low levels. And yes, the idea is to run from every fight, fighting only bosses.
But without fighting normal enemies on a high level, you can't get many of the items needed for the more powerful weapons/Limit Breaks. It's definitely a challenge...
25.
I've been wanting to try out the strategy where you don't level through the whole game so the enemies don't grow. I'm not sure if it'd be easier or harder, but it'd be different. XD
It's kinda impossible not to level up in FF VIII, because there's no experience curve, all levels only take 1000 EXP to gain. You'd have to escape all the time, and because the enemies level up as you do, it wouldn't be much easier. As an analogy, a Goblin can be just as hard when you're in level 1 as Omega Weapon when you're in level 99.
