I've been an off-and-on "Buffy" viewer. I saw the first season, stopped watching when Angel turned evil, started watching again when Faith showed up, stopped watching when the government showed up in Sunnydale, and started watching again after Buffy came back to life. Then I started watching re-runs on FX to find out who Dawn is and whatever happened to Oz. I'm beginning to like this new season. It's hyping up another "end of the world" situation, except this time the demons are scared too. How many times was the world supposed to end and "The Scoobies" stopped it? The vampires were supposed to take over, the Mayor was supposed to turn into a giant snake and destroy everything, demons were supposed to kill themselves in the hellmouth, and Glory was going to bring all reality to a neverending suffering. And let's not forget about Willow  I wonder if it's really going to happen this time, since I heard this was the last season (highlight to read)

He was also the Funky Walker, Dirty Talker. Nowadays, he does a lot of voice acting, like Green Lantern from Justice League and Samurai Jack.

Wow. Everybody here likes to draw. Too bad I can't... I'm into playing old SNES videogames. Ijust played Chrono Trigger for the first time, and I'm working on FF6 right now. I have a website and work with somebody on their's, but I'm not big on designing them. I just do a lot of anime parody writing. I was writing a movie, but I'm putting it on hold. I'm writing a sci-fi/action/comedy/mature/hip-hop animated series (I need to design the characters, though). I'm planning to take a screen-writing class when I go to college this winter, so they should come out half-decent. I do voices, but I like to make up my own rather than do impersonations.

Now that I think about it, they do seem similar. And I know they didn't write that song out of personal experience... but I'm sure it's all coincidense.

The only thing keeping SNL on the air is the fact that it's SNL. It was the first (as far as I know) sketch comedy show and a very original idea when it first aired, but now its cast members aren't even that funny anymore. The humor is still on the same level it was on in the 70s, which isn't really a good thing. Still has its moments though. I don't think the "Stuart" sketch is that funny anymore and I wanna know where the blankity-blank Will Sasso has gone to! Oh well. I'm sure his career will go on, like Phil Lamar's did.
-
To tell the truth, I haven't watched the show on Fox since two seasons ago. I caught a couple episodes last season, but that was about it. I didn't notice Will Sasso was gone until last night (my cousin pressured me into watching it because Jackie Chan was their guest) when he seemed to be missing from the opening credits. It's sad that the entire show will have to be carried by Michael McDonald and Mo Collins (who seem to do every sketch together) from now on. Debra Wilson is still there, but they don't give her good skits anymore. I watch SNL every now and then, but the only good part of the show is Weekend Update. Jimmy Fallon is good, but Tina Faye is funnier (in my opinion). Will Farrel left that show, too. Now who's gonna play G.W. Bush? Who?!
-
Is it me or is MadTV less funny now than it's ever been? I blame it on the loss of certain cast members. I mean, Will Sasso left the show! He was nearly in every sketch on the show. Sure, Aries Spears, Michael McDonald, and Mo Collins are there, but that leaves them with Bonifa, Stuart, and a Denzel Washington impersonator. Oh well. What do you think of the show?
Originally posted by Rick Hunter There are certain adult themes, scenes, and jokes, that were edited out of the american version to make it suitable for kids. The same actually even applies for El Hazard. Dubbing always cuts out a translation or scene. Its the way anime dubbing companies work. If you want examples, I'll list.
Actually, could you list examples of anime that's not (and has never been) on network television with cut scenes? (people think I'm being a smart-alec, but I'm serious here!)
Originally posted by amiboshi When they dub anime they often change names, too. It may be a rather minor difference, but you're already losing out on the original version. I bought the Lain DVD, so after I watched the subbed version, I watched the dubbed version just out of curiosity, and they changed the name "Arisu" to "Alice". O.o That was surprising, and especially because Lain isn't a network anime or anything, that was just plain editing. I'm assuming they would call it "uncut", but it really was altered.
Serious question. Aren't Arisu and Alice the same thing? Switch R and L (which is an easy thing to do with Japanese names) and switch S and C (because they sound the same) and the name sounds easily like Alice-oo. It's a long shot, but it happens. Sheesh. And I wonder why people call me a dubbie... *looks at his small mixed collection of dubbed and subbed anime*

Thanks for clearing that up for me. All I knew about "punk" is that it's a word Shakespeare made up, it's a style, a type of music that I probably do or don't listen too, and nobody seems to agree with the media's definition of it. Some of you may laugh at my question, but at least I asked. There's a whole lot of people out there who call Avril Lavigne "punk" (but I know pop-rock when I hear it. I find it amazing that so many people hate her simply because the media put her in the wrong category. Her songs are half-decent on a pop-rock level.) So thanks again for clearing that up. I can now honestly say I do not hate punk rock... although I'm really a fan either. *tunes back into his neo-soul music, which nobody else on this board listens to* :(
-
What is punk, anyway? And don't go giving me that "state of mind, kick a trash can" stuff I read somewhere around these boards a while back. :) Seriously, though. I don't know whether I like punk or not. What are some good examples of punk bands? And just to stay remotely on topic... I don't necessarily hate country, it's just that "twangy" sound that gets me. I like the blues, so I can usually tolerate anything that cusps the blues/country borderline. Although real blues is better.

Why do so many people think a dubbed anime is a butchered anime made suitable for kids? I was watching El Hazard dubbed on television the other day and it didn't look like it was dubbed for kids to me. (Maybe it was hearing the S-word several times that did it.) I don't exactly see much (or any) El Hazard merchandise at Toys R Us either. And how exactly did Pokemon "sell out" anyway? It was a major marketing tool in Japan, too.

I like Santana. He knows how to tear up one mean guitar. Some time ago, I saw an old rerun of Saturday Night Live (like in the 1970s) where he was the musical guest. He's always been good! Sometimes I wish I had been around in the 60s so I could have seen him at Woodstock. His new song with Michelle Branch, "Game of Love" from his new album "Shaman" is great! After being slowly forgotten over the course of 30 years, he really knew how to bounce back into the mainstream with some popular singers for "Supernatural." (I think he even tied with Lauryn Hill for the "Won Way Too Many Grammies In One Night Award.") I know I've just got to get "Shaman."

I guess you could say it's original, but more in a retro sense. The animation looks like something out of "School House Rock" but I think that's what makes it so original-looking. Nobody animates like that anymore. Hmm... maybe if I make my own series in the style of Speed Racer...

At least somebody else liked the show.

When Sheep in the Big City first came on CN, I didn't pay any attention to it. In fact, I think that's why it got cancelled. Nobody bothered to watch it. Well, I started watching the re-runs a lot and I think the show wasn't half bad. There was a lot of playing with words and it was fun to catch all of the name puns (General Specific, Private Public, General Public, Private Thoughts) and the fake commcercial breaks inbetween chapters was pretty good too. They might have been a little cheesy, but they were just parodies.

Bash Ren & Stimpy all you want, but not Angry Beavers! That was my show! I'll never stop laughing at that one all-Spanish episode with the badly translated subtitles. Norb: Bueno! Trans: Groovy!

I heard they replaced Aaliyah with Jada Pinket Smith (and that she was training with Will Smith at the same thime he trained for Ali) but then I heard they replaced her with Nora Gaye (Marvin Gaye's daughter or something). I think one of the problems with Matrix: Reloaded is going to be the sudden trend of Hollywood using Wire-Fu and slowed, spinning camera angles. It's been done to death ever since The Matrix came out, so Reloaded is gonna have to be at least twice as good as the first.
Originally posted by zidane11 Dragonball, or Dragonball Z? They are showing new DBZ episodes right now. I thought that they already showed all of the regular Dragonball episodes.
It never bothered you that Dragonball ended on a cliff-hanger last season? Plus we still haven't seen Piccolo's, Tienshinhan's, or Chao-zu's back-stories.

"The New" TNN (which is crazily enough The New The National Network) is planning to create a line-up of all-new mature animated series. One of these animated series will be new episodes of Ren & Stimpy. If you ever watched the show on Nickelodeon, you might remember how (what's the word?) "filthy" it was. Well, now that adult cartoons have finally caught on in North America, the creator of television's most disgusting rat-faced, mosquito-looking dog and simple-minded cat is bringing the show back with more raunching material than ever before. Be afraid. That's still not as strange as Pamela Anderson's new animated series (made by Stan Lee and Marvel) "Stripperela." By night: an exotic dancer. By later that night: an exotic dancer who fights crime. The show will have a cast of ridiculously odd villains, like a very cheap master criminal who steals change from the bank and cubic zirconias instead of diamond. Be very afraid. These shows (plus many more) are set to fondle and attack television screens in 2003.

I signed up for my school's choir, but they never gave it to me. I knew a lot of people in it, too. I was in one of my school's musicals last year. We did "Little Shop of Horrors" which none of my friends went to go see... :flaming: Anyway, everyone in the musical except for me was in Choir. Strangely enough, I was the only person in the show who couldn't sing. I got to know the Choir teacher and I knew just about everything about the class. I even learned how to read music. I never got to join that class, though. Shame, 'cause I discovered I'm a pretty good bass and I know how to harmonize in a choir. Can't sing solo, though. Nope. No freaking way...

Strange. I've had (and love) Yan-Yan, but I never knew what Pocky was. I used to get my yan-yan from a nearby store that sells a lot of international stuff. Haven't had yan-yan in about 4 years, though.

New episodes started last week, I believe.
