I'm not sure what you mean. A histogram still is defined differently. In a bar chart the frequency is represented by the y axis, ie height of the vertical axis alone. But for histograms it is the area of the blocks, not just the height. Perhaps a couple of links would help. http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/asguru/maths/12methods/05data/23graphical1/principles.shtml and http://www.mathsdirect.co.uk/pure/purtutstahis.htm Hope this helps. :D

My Friend Beleives in Witchcraft...
Mnemolth replied to Yu Yu Hakusho!'s topic in General Discussion
I dunno much about Witchcraft. But I do know Wicca seems to be a fairly popular religion amongst young people these days. Although, for those who are serious about being Wiccan, they might want to read http://www.whywiccanssuck.com/. The author has a bit of an attitude problem, but they do know their stuff. -
Has anyone read any books from the Dragonlance Series?
Mnemolth replied to Rhys Mayiessen's topic in General Discussion
Err....no....not War of the Souls. Its called DragonLance Legends. It happens just after Chronciles. Its a trilogy. Its almost all about the twins, though other characters from the Chronicles do feature. War of the Souls is something entirely different. I like Legends mainly because of Raistlin. -
I'm not sure what you're after cloricus. I suspect there are probably three general opinions of me. 1) Mnemolth seems pretty cool. Intelligent, insightful and articulate. A little strange and way too long winded sometimes tho. 2) Mnemolth, he's ok. I ignore half of his posts tho. Way too much to read. Then he starts using big words and bleh... and wtf is with his name anyway? Did he just try to find the hardest thing to spell or something? Sheesh... 3) Arrogant, presumptious, condescending, patronising, egoistical...what else is new? Just another wannabe trying to sound smart. I guess minority #1, majority #2 and minority #3. It may be more people in #1 now because I've posted quite a bit recently, and then there's the quiz and stuff, but that would easily drop the more I post my opinions and the less I post generally, if it has not already done so, and #3 would probably pick up a little. Generally on this Board I feel somewhat frustrated. That's not so surprising since most of you are way way out of my age group, and your experiences are consequently limited. But hey...you know what they say...kids will often surprise you...;)

Mnemolth replied to Rhys Mayiessen's topic in General Discussion
Back before the dawn of time, before today's ubiquitous World Wide Web was just an idea in the stormy mind of a young Tim Berners-Lee, there was a little pen and paper concept called Role-Playing Games, dominated by the father of RPGs, Dungeons and Dragons, or to be more precise the more popular and detailed version, AD&D (A for Advanced). Back in the 80s, at the beginning of the personal computer age, when 64K RAM was considered more than enough, and the hottest things in the arcades were Space Invaders and PacMan, AD&D was quite popular. There were a series of 'modules' (ie ready-made adventures to be played) in the world of 'Krynn', and they were linked together in a franchise called 'DragonLance'. One of the authors of these modules I believe was Tracy Hickman. To make a long story short, DragonLance Chronicles was, in fact, a chronicle of the adventures of Hickman and friends who played AD&D in the world of Krynn. I used to play AD&D around the same time, and I read the novels as a by-product. I was surprised though, for it was pretty good. By no stretch of the imagination is it work comparable to Tolkien but it does what it does very well, and I guess that's why it holds such a special place in my heart, Plus there's nostalgia value for me. :p Chronicles is good stuff. DragonLance Legends you should also watch out for, its a trilogy that concentrates just on the twins Raistlin and Caramon. Its also good. Death Cycle (unrelated to DragonLance) by the same authors I don't much agree with. The rest of the DragonLance franchise of books and anthologies, mostly written by other people, are best left alone. Sara may be referring to these. Like all good things, its been milked to death. :D -
Seen it. Female space pirates. A little bit on the raunchy side. Recommended rental but probably not for purchase. :D
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve I always find what Wrist Cutter says very funny. I see nothing wrong with alot of what he does. I've known him a long time, and I find his style of humor very good. Not only is it funny, it teaches you. Sure he may take it too far sometimes, but so do others (Like you in this case for example) Tell me why you have the obligation to tap someone on the shoulder? Is it your tendency to step in and put your thoughts across? Whats makes you any better than me or him? We both step in and throw our opinions out when we know we'll be disputed like this. You're no better, you just do the same thing in another way. You're extremely arrogant and immature. I'm not fighting here, I'm debating. Which is a totally different thing which I like to do.
You don't 'throw your opinions out', you push them around. And you don't do it just because they are your opinions despite them not being popular, you do it often because you know they will be disputed. The smugness is written all over your posts. And yes, of course you debate, but there are all kinds of levels of debate, and sometimes the level you're at is not a constructive one. You deride and demean with your comments. You do so as if you have some desparate need to show people how intelligent you are, and the only way you can demonstrate your intelligence is by cutting down other people. Its not 'witty' or 'cool'. Its just nasty. Plain and simple. And the sad thing is no one here is going to say anything. Some because you are a mod. Others because they fear they don't have the posting ability to take you down. And those who are not afraid of your mod status or your posting ability have been around too long to be objective. So I step in. And I may be arrogant and immature, but certainly no more so than you, and probably a lot less. If you look at my posts and if you read them, and you understand them, then you may have some very vague idea of who I am and what I've done with my life, in which case you would not question my capacity to step in on a forum like this and give people a light tap on their shoulders. If you haven't followed my posts, or understood them, then this will certainly come across as one of the most self-righteous and holier-than-thou posts that you have ever seen. And that's fair enough. Take the hint. You've made an a** of yourself, swallow your pride, learn from the experience and walk away. Don't just march on regardless. Look at the content of the post you made when you closed the 'too smart' thread. Think. In any case, you may want to speak to Wrist Cutter. He may be able to tell you something about me, or not. *shrugs* Perhaps its best that you don't respond, or at least not in public. Either way, this is the last I'm going to say about this matter in this thread. This 'fight' has gone on long enough. I also want to give you the option of having the last word on the matter. Matt: I've been owned? Hmm...it would seem so. :D

Respect cuts both ways. I'm not going to explain myself letter by letter here. I'm just gonna make a few comments and then you can join the dots. First post:
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve No offense, although I'm sure you might be offended anyway, but nothing shows more stupidity than fighting, whether you were the perpatrater or not.
Not starting off on a good footing here. Its like saying with all due respect when you actually mean something else....but hey...let's give him the benefit of any doubt... Second post:
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve The intelligent person wouldn't put themselves in that position to begin with. I've never been in a fight, nor have I been put in a position like that. I know when to walk away, I know when to shut up, and I know that I don't have to use physical violence to proove any point to anybody.
Inference? I'm smart you're stupid. Well actually not so much inferred as practically explicitly stated...strike one.... Third post:
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve Actually I have there sparky... As far as fight club is concerned, hey thats your own entertainment. If you wanna get your a$s kicked because you find it amusing, please go ahead. I bet you won't find it much amusing when you end up in the hospital with a broken back or a crushed skull. But whatever, your life Fighting is stupid. There's no point in it. It just says you're too f-ing stupid to try to dispute your petty difference through debate and talking (or even simply ignoring someone) and that you have to use your brawns over brains. And Self defense for those of you who think thats fighting, it's not. Self defense is DEFENDING. You block attacks, reverse attacks. You use the momentum and movements of the attacker in a way to get an advantage over him/her. If you think self defense is punching the guy before he hits you, you are sadly mistaken. You think if I went around hitting all you people in the face because I disagree with you, that it would be ok because fighting is ok. Right...
Now the meaness creeps in to add to the arrogance...strike two Post five:
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve Ever made a dumb person think? It really takes alot of time. Besides that point, I don't put myself in positions like that. I've never gotten in a fight because I've never had any enemies. People don't have a reason to hate me or dislike me.
Well the first line is just venom.....strike three... Sorry to dissect you like that TN. I know there are probably worse examples to highlight. Nonetheless, you've drawn me in, so here I am. :D Look, I'm not saying TN is Wrist Cutter. But on occasion he as a tendency to cross the line. When some poster here does that, and the Board is not jumping down his throat, I sometimes feel obliged to just give him a light tap on the shoulder. And my post was just that. A little 'just chill' message. No venom, no bite, no anger, no grand standing. As I said, I'm not going to fully explain myself. Some of you will be able to read between the lines and understand. Others won't. At this moment I have neither the time nor the inclination to type out one of my infamously long replies. :p Cheers! :D

Bug where if you reload/refresh the answers page without answering any questions, and the quiz gives you a high score is now fixed. Thanks Deus for bringing it to my attention. :) Now if you stuff up the quiz in any way, it will always give you a zero. :D

Love the person, not the idea. It never ceases to amaze me how many people, from 15 to 50, fail to understand such a basic concept.

Ahh! There's your rapier. I knew you had it somewhere, you were just waiting for the right moment to draw it out. :)

Actually, nobody needs to kill anybody to stop world hunger. The problem is not the lack of food but the lack of political will to produce food and/or distribute it. People don't die from hunger, they die from politics...

*bump* No one needs any help with their homework? Man, the people on this Board must be really really smart! :D

Obviously you've never seen Fight Club. :D

*glances at MathGuy and Mystic* Look out folks, we have genuine real geeks loose amongst us! Hide! Hide before they find you and force feed Star Trek down your throat! Heheheh. But back to the topic at hand, I miss the website forum. I kinda like giving useless pointers to beginners about HTML. Makes me feel all important and knowledgeable-like. :D Also I mentioned banning because the Board I was on before I came here did not allow mods to ban. Only admins can ban (though mod opinions were keenly sought after) Is this how this Board works?
Originally posted by Justin Perhaps I misunderstood your staement, Narius, but it America today it's the monority community that gets to crack all the jokes. Now, I think to a certain extent the white community asked for it, after years of slavery, segregation, and opression; but shouldn't it be about time to put a stop to hate, period? I mean, look at BET, for example: What does it stand for? Black Entertainment Television. Now, I'd like to what happenes to the guy who creates Caucasion Entertainment Television. Granted, that issue is not entirely one-sided, but you must at least admit that all sides have contributed more wrong than right. -Justin
Okay, I dunno where you're going with this, but by the tone I get the impression you are suggesting that there is some sort of 'reverse' discrimination going on. Maybe there is, but I don't think its anything to get too excited about. As for BET, don't know what that is all about, but it makes sense if you think about it for a moment. Why has no one created a 'White' channel? Isn't it the same kind of 'hate' as a 'Black' channel? Well, just think about that for a moment. Think about some of the most popular shows. Sienfield, Friends, Malcolm in the Middle, Everybody Loves Raymond...and the list is endless. They look pretty white to me. Aren't there shows where most the major characters are 'black'? Sure there are, and I'm sure you can list some, but they are far and few in between. So now tell me what is the point of a 'White' channel? The majority never needs to shout to be heard (although it often does anyway). Its voice is deep and pervasive. The minoirty, on the other hand, has a smaller voice, and is in constant fear of being ignored, or drowned out. So it has a tendency to scream. To suggest that both are behaving equally bad is to ignore the power discrepancy.

I do believe someone cheated. Of course I can't be a 100% sure but I did set up that trap so I think I may be right. Not gonna say who, that'd be impolite! But kudos to you for knowing your way around a site! ;) For those of you complaining that the quiz is not accurate enough. I apologise. The questions are kinda dated. I wrote them up about 4 years ago when I was trying to work out how to use an IRC bot. Basically the quiz is a translation from the IRC 'platform' to web-based browser 'platform'. Its harder than you think to program because I refused to use databases and cookies. Anyways, if you would like to make up questions and answers about your own favorite series and such, feel free to PM or email me (if you want to make my life easier, put the questions and answers, all ONE lines without blank lines in between, in two SEPARATE text files; text files can easily be created and edited using Notepad; and don't forget to include your name at the end of the question so you can get the credit when it shows up!). And as for the bug. Sorry. Still working on that. As long as you follow the basic rules (load page, answers questions, click on Submit, and click on link to play again), the it should work fine. Its just when people start reloading/refreshing pages without clicking on Submit OR they reload/refresh the 'results' page, then all weird things happen. But play nice, play fair, don't cheat and all is well. :) Help needed. IMPORTANT!! Don't skip! :p This site is in a VERY rudimentary state. I'd like to develop it further with some help from other people. Immediately, there is an urgent need for more questions. There are about 110 and the quiz takes 30, so some questions are repeated. Plus as I said the quiz is dated and only reflects what I've seen or read. But beyond that, I'd like different sections for different quizzes with different names, running off the same basic script (don't worry I'll iron out the very few bugs there are soon enough :p). Maybe one that is really hard, one for Digimon, one for DBZ, one for any of your favourite series. It'd be like an ultimate quiz website for anime. Maybe there's one around somewhere but I haven't seen it. I've run across a few lame ones, using Javascript and basic multiple choice, but not ones that automatically pick different questions each time you play, and where you actually have to type in your answers! (kinda removes the impact of luck). And...*glances at Adams and James*...maybe something that is associated or connected with OtakuBoards? I saw somewhere that Adam wanted theOtaku.com visitors to have some new places to go? ;) Just a thought...
Originally posted by Matt If you are all correct, what part of do you not understand?
Well actually mine was a joke. :p I never seen, heard of or dialed the number, and if you have access to OtakuBoards logs and can see my IP, then you'll know why. :) As for why I'm posting this when you specifically stated "if you are all correct"? Well because I have a sneaking suspicion that the other responses may actually be real! ;) And I wouldn't want Cera to think I was spoiling it all for everyone. You do know I'm stalking her don't you? *puts back on his binoculars* :D

"Thank you for calling. You must be pretty stupid to call a toll line to tell you how smart you are. Goodbye." :D

Hi guys. Thanks for taking the time to take the quiz. :) Just as a tip, when you get a result, you can just copy and paste the text below your picture to post your result for all to see. Like this. :) [EDIT]Gah!! OtakuBoards no longer accepts HTML?? :( Just copy and paste the gif then I suppose....*sighs* [/EDIT]

On a different note, rather than saying what you would like for Xmas, can some of tell us all what you're giving to others for Xmas. :D It doesn't have to be material goods. It could something as simple as a hand made card to your parents, or a valentine to that special someone, etc. Spoil the surprise? Well not if they don't visit these Boards! :p Don't tell me everyone you care about eside on these Boards?! :D :D

I remember someone asking this before but I don't think they ever got a reply. And now I can't find the post. Anyways, before, if my memory does not escape me, there was a forum for budding website builders? Where has it gone? I'm sure lots of people here build or maintain sites, and I'm sure many of them are related to anime. That's why most Boards have one, is there a particular reason I'm not aware of why this Board doesn't have one? Just curious. :D [EDIT]Oh and on a completely unrelated note, can someonen fill me in on how banning works? Can mods ban or only admins? And is the said banned member then COMPLETELY removed from the Boards, including all his posts, ie he is deleted from the database. If so I find that a little disturbing. Kinda 1984-like. I was just wondering cos there was a quote from a 'Stew' on the Newbie lounge. But I couldn't find his post nor his membership.[/EDIT]

Yes, its me again, with another jibe at OtakuBoards and the anime community in general. :) This time I've made what I think is a pretty nifty quiz. Click HERE to try it out and come back with your results and I can then call on your parents and organize some kind of counselling session for you! :D And no, this is nothing at all like personality test. This is a half serious attempt at a 'real' quiz, with all the bells and whistles. And no, the questions are not too hard. Its meant to be a fun game so don't cheat and go around trawling the Internet for answers! ;) Go on and take it for a spin. Aww...go on...I took five hours to make it, surely you can take five minutes to play with it? No? Your time is too precious to waste? :bawling: If you don't go and try it I'll pout. Yeah. That's what I'll do. And trust me, you wouldn't want to see a man pout! ;) Long Boring Bit The trouble with many anime quizes is that they are simple multiple choice questions. You just pick one and that's it. And that's okay I suppose, but it always leaves me a little annoyed since I'm not a big fan of Multiple Choice testing. I figure its much harder when you have to type in the answers yourself. Of course the easiest way to code such a quiz is by comparing the responses with answers, letter by letter. So the computer is really strict. And some answers which may be considered 'right' could be marked wrong. If I have some time I'm sure I could come up with some basic algorithms to make it a little more lenient. As it is, with the quiz I've created, it is case-insensitive, so there is no problem with upper or lower case comparions. I've also put in a function to take away blank spaces at the beginning and end of a reply. But other than that, yes you have to answer it exactly, or otherwise the computer will spit the dummy, so to speak. Anyway, I was bored, so I looked up Google to see what kind of anime quiz was available. I didn't find many to my liking at all. Most were of the multiple choice Javascript variety. That's great for personality tests (heheheh I used the same thing for my OB member personality test), but they suck when you are doing a half serious quiz. Then there were some with written answers but the questions were always the same. This kinda killed the replay value. So I decided, wouldn't it be great if there was a quiz where the questions changed everytime you took the test? The easiest thing was for me to make one. So I did. The script is a little buggy (considering I have no access to a database I thought it was kinda neat that I was able to do what I did), its the first time I've programmed in PHP, but if you play nice, and don't try to purposely go out to break it, the script works fine. :) Another thing with an anime quiz is that it is often too static. Its the same quiz all the time. Or maybe its a different quiz but questions are manually chosen by the webmaster, or there are a zillion pop ups (grrr!!!). So I decided to create something simple, easy to use, and that may grow. My quiz allows me to easily include more questions and answers, and these can be supplied in simple text files (like those made from Notepad). The bigger the list of Q&A the more random the questions become, and this is probably where I need your help. If you are interested, go to the site, read the instructions and if you like what I've created, email me with some assistance. :D If people contribute their questions, and these questions all have their names attached when they are shown in the quiz, they become involved in the process and this can only be better for the OtakuBoards community. :D So take a dive, play the quiz, contribute questions, flame me about how you think my answers are wrong, enjoy yourselves and, most of all, have fun!
