my definition of a good vocalist requires the subject's voice to be unique sounding instead of the generic singing voice employed by the likes of lifehouse, the calling, our lady peace, etc. my good vocalists (and not necessarily my favorites) include: - maynard james keenan(tool) & (a perfect circle) -anthony kiedis and flea(RHCP) -rob zombie(white zombie) -marilyn manson -kurt cobain(nirvana) -billy corgan(smashing pumpkins) -eddie vedder(pearl jam) -serj tankian(system of a down) -liam gallagher(oasis) -scott weiland(stone temple pilots) -les claypool(primus) -maxim and keith (the prodigy) the list goes on. oh, and the comment about anthony kiedis(RHCP) live also applies to dave grohl(foo fighters).

i think its a pretty good show. the only problem is that it seems like they only have about 6 episodes and play those 6 all the time.

Quote:"Kidneytheives did that song at the end of the really, really bad movie "Queen of the Damned." It was called When I'm Dead." The song's title is "before i'm dead", actually. sorry. i just wanted to set that straight.

my, you are a sick one aren't you? wesley willis does have the right idea about the mullet, though.
-
actually, wesley willis isn't "retarded". he has a severe case of chronic schizophrenia and his songs are inspired by what his "demon voices" tell him to write. some songs do involve the subject matter mentioned by wing gundam, but only because the song tells the listener to do so (as an insult). other songs involve subjects such as his favorite celebrities, his minivan (a ford windstar), and the "great rock music" played at mcdonald's.

about a perfect circle, noryko, maynard (tool) is going back into the studio to work on APC's second album. he says that TOOL is hiss masculine side and that APC reflects his feminine side. BUY THE DVD already. its TOOL. of course its good.

ok. step back. here i go. the smashing pumpkins are frickin awesome. if anyone thinks they can talk bad about them, they dont have a brain in their head. the smashing pumpkins are the perfect hard rock band. they have mass appeal while still retaining credibility. as for lyrics, azazel, from siamese dream on, every album has had, not only an independent story, but a story line that continued through the later albums. they were telling everyone what was going to happen and nobody even saw it. they told you about their eventual breakup. (they are reforming the band and renaming themselves as "glass and the machines of god".) and being full of themselves is quite justified. nobody writes like corgan. nobody. cherub rock (siamese dream) has 40 seperate guitar parts. "untitled" is a stand alone track found on rotten apples and is the last song from the smashing pumpkins. soundgarden is just a rad-daddy band. pearl jam is good, too. (gasps for breath)

the face of metal(and music in general for that matter) today

the raddest unheard of band is wesley willis. he has released something like 15 albums and a good 90% of the songs have the same music, just played at a different speed. he has a casio keyboard with a factory pre-programmed beat and just talks while the music is playing. (two side notes- 1.wesley willis is a little "off" and is serious about his music. his stuff is hilarious but he thinks hes a big rock star. 2.wesley willis used to have a back up band called the wesley willis fiasco. the guitar player was previously in a band with billy corgan (smashing pumpkins.) he ends most of his songs by saying, "rock over london! rock on chicago!" then a company's name and slogan. he is rad daddy. check it out. -
good lord, are you freakin kidding. tool is the most amazing band to walk the face of the earth. i loved tool from the beginning back in '92 with opiate all the down to lateralus. incredible.

sorry... ouch:blackeye: hey, now that anna knocked my brain working again, everybody should get saves the day's new album, "stay what you are". its got kinda morbid/ kinda funny lyrics with some groovin up beat riffage kinda sound. rock out like some psycho crazy panda slappin, fruit tastin, albino rabid crazed weasels. oh yeah! -
what most people dont know (especially people who "like" punk because of blink-182) is that travis barker(blink) used to drum for the aquabats. yep...

i dont like the idea of pop radio. there is too much commercialization of music. a record company hears a band and rushes their album before its finished creating another one-hit wonder. they dont seem to realize (or care) that they are screwing themselves. one hit song=one hit record=one chance to make the cash. but on the other hand, kids always want something new, so i guess thats how it works. a pop song is released, played until the cd melts, and thrown away for the next hit tune. that is so sad. fight the power. dont listen to the radio.

to answer anna's question- jack white and meg white claim to be siblings, but a lot of people say that they used to be married. oh, and the term you meant is "emo" not "imo". i hate classifications. -

when the "grunge" (i hate that term) movement began, everyone talked about how terrible all those no talent bands were. nirvana, stp, etc... they didnt play crazy metal riffs or have these blazing solos all over the track. they just played good honest music, and they had fun doing it. and i know meg white(white stripes) isnt knock you down amazing, but she does what she likes and has fun. she isnt chad sexton(311), or jimmy chamberlain (smashing pumpkins), or chad smith(R.H.C.P.), but at least she gets to do what she likes to do, and thats more than most of us could probably say. oh yeah, danny carey(TOOL) is the most amazing drummer i have ever heard. nobody can touch that guy. -

the white stripes are such a great band. they are so simple. 2 people. 1 singer/guitar player and 1 drmmer. no layering. no back up anything. its just straight forward trashy 60's sounding rock, like older zeppelin or the rolling stones or something. its just really good to see that straight up rock isnt dead. -

like i said, anything can be over done, but the point i was trying to make was that you shouldnt confine yourself to any one kind of music. open yourself up to new things. a rule i go by is "if your getting comfortable with what is going on and there isnt anything new, its time to move on." this has gotten me into a lot of new things, especially kinds of music. ive gotten into to everything from led zeppelin to the prodigy. hip hop to jazz. the only thing that i dont like really is country music and pop radio. the rule works well cause if i start to get tired of any one sound ( noise metal as you put it, wc, for example) then i always have something else to turn to. also, what wc said about hearing the same thing all the time when listening to the radio is the exact reason i dont. i dont want anybody deciding what i listen to. and if a song gets overplayed, its because i played it too much, because i chose to, not because thats what someone decided i should listen to. -
for quite a while i was very disappointed with the face of today's rock. bands like slipknot, mudvayne, mushroomhead, hatebreed, etc. were at the front of the masses while great bands like soundgarden, radiohead, pearl jam, smashing pumpkins, among others, were left to collect dust in the shadow of these new metal bands. then (unlike most people with that opinion), i gave them a chance. i actually got their albums and listen to them. all the way through. i listened to the message they presented as well as the way they presented it. i was amazed by what i had been missing. the arrangements, the layering, the percussive nature of the music, all helped to create something new and convey new emotions(which is what music should always be about, emotion). dont get me wrong. anything can be overdone, overplayed, overhyped...whatever , but with anything, you should at least give it a shot before you dismiss it completely. thanks for your time. give me your thoughts on today's music as opposed to older stuff, diferent stuff, whatever...

hey, im glad you like the metallica stuff. if you want, maybe i can copy "third eye open" for you, too. if you dont know, "3rd eye open" is a string quartet's tribute to TOOL's amazing music. TOOL is one of the greatest bands to ever walk the face of the earth. anna and QA already know about this because i rave about them all the time. anyway Apocalyptica is pretty freakin sweet, so check it out (or you can go jump in a lake).

hey, this album is amazing. jon frusciante's playing has evolved to such an amazing level. he has matured as a peron and as a musician. i am very proud to say that he is off heroine. his style has changed a lot. he has moved from the impromptu, jammy sound( that was a chili peppers' signature sound for so long) and moved into (among other things) full on chord progressions. this is a completely different direction for him and his band. he actually sat down and wrote out arrangements for the new album. anthony keidis' vocal talent continues in the traditional chili pepper's style. what an amazing singer. chad smith and flea always make the best rythem team. what else can i say? they just keep getting better. oh yeah, bye the way( pun intended), in case any of you were wondering who this ryan cat is... its me. just ask QA.
