If you mean how to add a background image, go to your Edit Styles page from the Backroom and fill in the "Add A Background Image" text box with the URL of the image you want to use.

Adam actually made a site that was partially for the purpose of educating myO users in how to fix up their pages. Check that out here, but be warned that once armed with this knowledge, you also gain the sacred responsibility of keeping your site not hideous: if a background image be tiled, be it an image for which tiling is intended. And when ye color yon webpage, keepst in mind that ye visitors will not be wearing lead suits to protect themselves from it (thence, hot pink goes not with forest green).

That's pretty much it. You will need to have the image hosted somewhere in order to upload it.

Hear ye, hear ye. Take heart [and notes] from fellow OBers MyO sites on colour and style, eventually with a bit of practice even those of us HTML-retarded will find our way.

One of the biggest problems I see on people's pages is that they feel the need to use a 1024x768 wallpaper that's several hundred KBs large as their background. And then it doesn't even look any good since it doesn't tile at all well. Also, they feel the need to make all the background colors transparent so as to view said background image, even though it makes all the text on their site illegible.

Steer clear of those two things and you'll have a page that's better than many out there.
