Your Local Music Scene

I'm interested in sampling some of the world's other local music entrees as provided by the music lovers of Otakuboards. I'll provide a list of my local favorites, and all you guys post yours, a brief description, and a link to sample their material.

I'll begin in order from the biggest shrimp in my pond to the smallest. Check out their friends, too, as I'm only going to post my favorites:

With Blood Comes Cleansing- Extremely Christian deathcore. I've known these guys for years, almost got on with them as a vocalist, but then decided against it for themactical and creative reasons. For fans of Through the Eyes of the Dead, Job For a Cowboy, and the like. Recently signed to Victory.

Destroy Destroy Destroy- Ok, so these guys aren't entirely local, but they're not far rom it. They're an anti-metalcore metalcore band. I suppose the only way they get away with that is that they mix blackened power metal with hardcore instead of MDM. They just recently signed to Metal Blade.

With Faith or Flames- these guys are a blackened MDM band from the same town as Destroy Destroy Destroy, and of similar musical stock. They just bring a hell of a lot more metal to it.

Two Thirteen- A local black metal/punk group more famous for their disgusting live show (frequently including public nudity and mutilation) than for their actual music. Though, they do have some pretty good anthemic horror punk songs.

Thrill of a Gunfight- A very fast-paced metalcore outfit, and one of the longest standing bands of its kind in the area.

Autumn Aria- The best of the Columbus metal bands, in my opinion. They are an odd mix of black, death, and progressive metal and feature the best metal guitar player in our area.

I'm done.

Haha, yay! I actually really love my local music scene, I think it's one of the best (although not insanely well-known for it).

Killwhitneydead - Brutal metalcore with a lot of samples from movies and TV shows thrown in for comedy or dramatic effect. Their vocalist runs the Tribunal Records label, and he's surprisingly a really nice guy. He's the kind of musician who remembers my name even after months of them not playing around here.

Chet Stedman - These guys kind of split off from eachother last year, but the remaining three dudes started a new band that I'll get to. They have a single EP and it's some of the best post-hardcore I've heard.

Tarantuloco - These are the remaining three members of Chet Stedman playing new jams. I personally love their lyrics, Ryan picks some bizarre topics to write songs about, like their neighbor who the thought was from the future because he was stealing their internet. I'm friends with these guys to the point that they're playing at my Graduation party in a little over a month from now. :D

Wolverines - These are two former members of a band I'm too young for called Abort, Captain!. They're just two sophomores in college, one on drums and one on guitar, but they make some ridiculously complex songs. They're heavy and sincere, just the way I like it. These guys are also playing at my party. XD

Boa Narrow - Say the name aloud. DO IT!!! Okay. These guys played hardcore, but now they blend it into some sort of aggressive form of jazz. They have a really unique sound, and their live shows are wild, as each of the three members take part in playing the drums, haha. I want to see these guys get famous.

I'll make another post later. :D

Haha, the local scene out by Chicago (or, to be more precise the suburbs) kind of blows. But to be fair to the bands I know, here it goes.

She Likes Todd - An interesting punk rock band that are starting to get bigger and bigger around here. I know a girl who's the sister of the lead singer. You can easily spot in their music influences from Fugazi and Pennywise, to name more popular ones. They're not too shabby, but the vocals could use some work. It's not that he's bad, it's just that he needs to make his voice match the music that's being played.

Blind Destruction - Haven't heard anything by them, but I'm friends with two of the band members. Supposedly their a metal band, but they need to get their ***** in gear and post some of their music on their myspace page, because otherwise they'll soon be swept in the dust.

BTF - Again, another metal band. I don't really like metal that much, but, I guess for one they're not too bad. They sound a little generic though. Screaming, growling, heavy riffs, kick to a solo, slight bit of singing, back to the growling, the song's over. Maybe that was a little harsh, but still.

Of Hearts And Dreams - The lead singer's my brother. I've heard a little bit by them, not bad. A bit on the pop-punky side, but still. A little work is needed, and I've heard they don't have the greatest stage performance in the history of man, but that's to be expected considering they're a local band.

Damage Industry - A rock group of sorts. I'm friends with the guitarist's sister. Appearnently they do good covers, and they just had a concert yesterday if I'm not mistaken. Still, I don't think I've heard much by them, but from other people supposidly they don't suck completely.

Yeah, like I said, my local scene isn't that great. But we're trying, aren't we?

I only know of a couple local bands around here because I can't really go to shows.

A Dying Breed - I guess they're considered a metal band. I did see them live at the Battle of the Bands and they're amazing. I don't know what else to say about them, though.

Mourning Waits - This is the screamo band that beat ADB at the Battle of the Bands and came in first. I love them a lot, and they're all in their freshman year of high school or younger.

The Pants - I've never seen this band live, but one of my friends used to play keyboard for them before they had a brass section (which means they're ska).

Killwhitneydead was something of a local phenomenon around here not that long ago. I don't know who replaced them as the new favored sons of metal/deathcore in Columbus, but I remember not being too fond of them. But I guess their formula sets them apart enough to make them something you'd remember listening to.

Of my list, I most highly recommend Autumn Aria. They really are great.

the only local band i really know of is The Minus Men. They're a goth outfit with long, dark songs in the vein of Bauhaus -- only with like 15 minute songs. They're style is interesting and cool, though it's not like it's anything special. I don't think their music could ever some close to being deemed sales-friendly, lol. Recently they apparently started playing acoustic versions of their songs too, which are somewhat better.

My mom know about all the local metal bands -- she' got every last one of them as friends on her myspace and she jumps out to concerts all the time.

Well...I'll say all the bands that I care about, since alot of them suck...or there's just not that many...after all...I live in Arkansas... sigh*

Once Exiled: Brutal band...these guys go crazy on stage. The last concert I went to, the singer climbed up the railing of the stage while still singing...and then jumped off in front of us...we all did the "bow" in a cirle fomation around him. Aha. Yes. They used to play easier-going music...but now they're really kind of like a metal band.

Last Hour: Flyleaf's twin. These guys are a Christian band....who actually turned out to be pretty kewl. the guitarists added in riffs and bass solos as well as the guitarist screaming like an old guy. Yeah, they're awesome, right?

Stoning Cain: Three white guy brothers and one hispanic God at playing bass. If that doesn't sum it up...I don't know what does.
