Gaming The Free Games Thread

There are few sweeter words in the English language than the word 'free', and this especially applies to us gamers. With most games costing $60, any chance for us to play a game for absolutely nothing is a God send.

So, I thought we'd have a thread where we tell others about free games we have played, either through download or online flash based games.

To start, I found that Ubisoft is offering, through Fileplanet, an absolutely free FarCry. The only badside (minus it being hosted by Fileplanet) is that it is supported by in game ads. But I can't pass the chance to play this critically acclaimed game at no cost of me, so I will deal with it.

And for your information, this offer is available only to US residents.

That's true; I should of added PoP for those who didn't play it. Far Cry just occurred to me because it's a PC oriented game.

But, I don't know anyone who would want to play Raving Rabbids on the PC - it was designed for the Wii, so I'm pretty sure the quality wouldn't even be near as close as the Wii version.

Here are a few Flash game sites:

www.flashplayer.com
Besides having lots of flash games, this site also has flash movies and flash music videos!
www.games1.org
This site has alot of flash games also, but these (in my opinion) are alot more fun.

This guy makes really trippy shooting games. I highly recommend Torus Trooper, as well as anything else you see that looks interesting. GunRoar isn't that great in my opinion.

DOS Games is full of old shareware and freeware games, including the first 1/3 of Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, and Blood.

As for my favorite Flash games, just google "Boxhead: More Rooms" and "fl0w." Boxhead is a cute little zombie shooter with a lot of cool weapons. fl0w is of course the original version of the PSN game, where you zip around eating creatures and getting bigger.

The only flash game that matters is N, period.

The first GTA is also free as abandonware. I forget where it's at, but you can find it easily enough by searching.

As for FarCry and PoP? That's awesome, and I'm sure I'll have to give both a download.

I know this isn't what Matt means, but I got Animal Crossing: Wild World for free. I ordered the American version off Lik-Sang when it was released over there because I didn't want to wait four months for the European release. Anyway, it took so long to come that I might as well have waited for the Euro release, so I demanded a refund and got it. One month later it arrived at my doorstep and I kept it as compensation for severe psychological damage.

...That is amazing. I should order more games off of that site so that I can demand a refund, and thus, get a game for free! :D

N was nice. I didn't get very far though. The rez on my monitor sucks, so I had to scroll and play at the same time on bigger levels. And generally, this game isn't easy in the first place, but the demonstrations the computer does just makes you want to be as good as it. I found this game on my favorite free flash game site addictinggames

Ohohoho~

Half of my collection consists of free games.

...Well, okay, maybe some of them were obtained free by other ways... But you get the point ;D

Some games I'd list:

SCWU, a.k.a. Super Cosplay War Ultra.
A free doujin game that is legal to download.
Click here for the official site which provides the download link.

What is it?
A fighter. Simply put, it's a battle between otaku of all kinds using powers from their anime (Ex. Naruto fan uses ninjutsu and stuff, Digimon fan changes into different Digimon cosplays and generates different powers). I don't think it's the best fighter out there, but it does give a few laughs. Plus, it's free.

Destruction Desire
Okay, honestly, I haven't played this before, even though I have it on my external hard drive. Why I didn't play this is because I'm too lazy to play half of the things on my computer. But it's free, so hey, maybe you can check it out and come back to me saying "Quit being lazy and click that .exe file."
Here is the official site, and for easy access, here is the download link.
The graphics seem pretty good, and it looks heavily influenced from the Guilty Gear series.

Hm... I can't think of any that really stand out right now.

Anyways, onto the MMORPGS~

Tantra Online
A free MMORPG slightly styled like WoW.
Here is the main website.
I had fun with this for awhile. It's pretty good for being free, and if it had a little more elements to my liking, I'd probably be obsessed with this. For one, I like the character designs. I usually choose male characters, and I fell in love with my male character's design. Wasn't bulky, and seemed more anime-styled. Still strong too. Getting back to the point, there are quite a few areas to explore as well, and the community was pretty nice, although since this game is from the Phillipines,...Sometimes, you might not know what they're talking about. Of course, the game itself is in English.

Some disadvantages though... But that's to be expected. The thing I really hated about this game was the PK system. I love PKing. I had player killed, I believe, 64 people while I played (Although it was only for a period of a few days?). The problem is, you gain Karma if you PK. As you gain Karma, your abilitiies weaken harshly. By that, I mean that if you kill once, you can no longer heal (and as expected, you have a bounty on you). Kill twice or three times, I forgot, I believe you can't harm anymore. Unless that was just a glitch, but it was annoying. How do you lessen Karma? You can painstakingly wait for a day or two for it to go back to zero, assuming you only killed one or two people, or you can avoid the myriad of people chasing after you so they can PKK you so you can go into a dungeon and kill monsters that are so strong, you'll be lucky if you kill one of them. To put it simply, as long as you have Karma, you have to rely on someone stronger than you to tank for you, while killing these monsters. Or you can be patient and wait.

So if you're not a PKer, this might be a great game. And if you're a PKer who wants to play this game, hold your urges until someone PKs so you can PKK them without any penalty.

Mabinogi
Another free MMO developed by the same people who made MapleStory?!?! but I'm sure this game is much more worth your time. No offense to MS fans, and I admit, I have spent awhile on MS myself.

Click here for the Japanese site. You can view the Korean site too, but since this is "OtakuBoards", I'd figure you might prefer the Japanese community. Why not English? Well, Nexon has not created an English version yet, but I do believe they have already planned an English version that might be released next year.

Why this game? I haven't played it. But I've been having my eyes on it for awhile now. It's pleasing to the eye, there are many things you can do, including farm, play anime songs or compose other music on your little instrument in the town square, as well as fight and more. I know it is fairly popular with the Japanese, especially a lot of artists. I'll be checking this out when I have the time, and you should too.

GunZ
MM.... A shooter. I wouldn't call it exactly FPS, but ah well.
Click here for the website. I know this is fairly popular in the US already, and it is worth it, I think. Especially when playing with friends. What is it? Basically an Resident Evil 4-almost-like-FPS styled game with the ariable of using a sword too. It's a bit like Rakion where you join others in a room and battle it out until one survives. It also has a neat fighting style where you can strafe through the air, walk up walls, and go Matrix on everyone else.

Some disadvantages... Well, for one, if you're in a room with a hacker, you're in for trouble. Hacks are fun but ruin the game when you're not the one hacking. Unless he/she isn't expelled from the game by a poll, then he/she's pretty much sure to win. Trouble is, is that sometimes they can hack the polls. Maybe this changed, because I haven't played it in awhile but ah well.

-----------------------------

Thus concludes a portion of my share today. I would be glad to post more, but I have some work in school I'd like to accomplish first. Plus, I dunno if people want anymore lol >_>

Hope that helped a bit.

(ヾ(´・ω・`) Bye now~

Nanaka Crash is a weird-*** addicting Japanese game of which every otaku must brag about their high scores, lol. Don't mind that the site is Japanese - the game is easy to figure out as it really only requires you to click the screen, but it is apparently a lot more complex than it first appears and many have developed intense strategies for winning. Me, I'm happy as long as I get to see a mangled guy get hit by a bike and beat by schoolgirls XD.

Oh, when I first read it, I thought this was one of those memes like becoming an hero and learning how to shot web.

And I remembered I played Nanaka Crash before too~ I was so happy when the guy flew about... I think it was about 3,000-6,000+ feet, and I even screened it. Too bad that was more than a year ago, and I have lost the screencap =(

More good news for us PC Gamers - EA has just released Command & Conquer: The First Decade for free via Fileplanet. Its in ISO format, so you'll have to either get a program that will stock it on your hard drive so that you can install it from there, or burn it on a CD, but minus that its completely free.
