Extreme Music

Recommended Posts
I think the point of the thread is to talk about Extreme music though, not music that is more underground than it is mainstream.
One of the definitions of Extreme is
situated at the farthest possible point from a center
. If you use pop music as the center I'd say NMH is pretty for away from that. Making them extreme in that sense of the definition. Also they fit in with the definition given at the beginning of this thread.
Extreme Music is categorized as forms of music that use elements that the average mainstream fan might find unappealing or even repulsive.
Anyway talking about these core bands gets so boring after awhile. I'm actually starting to understand Jakes stance on the whole thing. So yea I am gonna do my best to bring up things that aren't what people normally think of as extreme but still fit in. It will keep the thread interesting. Dammit.

Then talk about metal. As long as its extreme, why does it matter?

I'm very appreciative of the jazz and synth bridge with ghost vox during the middle of Ulrich Firelord... I hope to see more of that from deathcore musicians. The Inspector Gadget breakdown is sweet, though they missed like one note and it gets me every time I hear the song. lol The music is good. Enjoyable. The synth add in, so far, is the best I've heard in a deathcore band. The vocals are amazing. Over all, the band is just another deathcore band, but its the little things that make them so original. The ghost vox, for instance. The synth and breakbeats. The singer is a girl. Etc. Great stuff. Another thing is, these guys are from Shreveport... Which means I could drive and go see them if I wanted. Though, I try to hold back these desires.

Haha, let's all get super anal about what we each think the definition of "extreme" is, shall we?
If you want to talk about bands that wouldn't fall under the genres of Metal/Hardcore/what-have-you (which are honestly the genres I think were intended to be spoken about in this thread but that's just a matter of opinion), go for it just don't expect any awknowledgment on my behalf.
Just being honest.

Then you go ahead and talk about something other then "-core" bands? We're not forcing you to talk about them.
We'll just talk around you, hahah. Seeing as how the majority of the kids that have posted in this thread all like "-core" bands/music quite a bit.

I'm not trying to start a fight, ha, I'm just giving my two cents on the matter.
And every other genre of music without a core at the end...
Metal is the only extreme genre... I'm sorry, dude. But that's it, besides emo/screamo. But... you know. You don't listen to it. Pop, strange or not... is not extreme. I hate to fry anyone's fish, (haha, I did just type that.) but we need to get back on the topic at hand, and stop arguing about what is or what isn't extreme. Right now, we're talking about heavy stuff. Core, metal, screamo. Those are pretty much the only types we have to discuss here.

Why does it bother you so much? Just because they have a core at the end of the name of their genre doesn't mean they all sound alike. Listen to other core bands. That might help you. Or try and adapt to the discussion at hand.

Back to the actual music. Iwrestledabearonce is touring the world! Under Century, too. Century seems to get all the deathcore musicians...

Panache, they aren't forcing opinions down your throat, they're just saying that this thread isn't about Metal, pop or weird music. It's about the hardcore/screamo genre. And 'talking about something else' is off topic in this thread, that's what we're trying tot ell you, in no way are we 'forcing opinions down your throat. I'm just going to be civil and say, if you don't like it leave.

Jake wasn't the greatest member around. He just tought almost everybody who listened to metalcore/ other core genre's was part of the 'hot-topic' generation, and to put it simple, he was just too ignorant and 'pretentious.'

Anyways, on topic. I think Claudio Sanchez from Coheed would make a great vocalist for hardcore. Why? Listen to some of their songs from The Second Stage Turbine Blade where you can here his screams, and he is pretty good. Also the bassist 'Michael Todd' did backing vocals for the song 'In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth,' he was the one who screamed during the chorus, also in concert he does it too, and he has a good scream/growl on him too.

I personally am not trying shove opinions down your throat, nor do I think anyone else is.
By all means, keep talking about your "extreme" pop, like I said though the majority doesn't find it extreme so don't expect acknowledgment or any form of approval from me or anyone else in this thread.

I also find it extremely hypocritical that you can bash all you want on the "-core" bands/music but the second someone bashes on the music you like, you p*ssy out of the discussion and walk away.
Stand up for your opinions bro.

Onto the topic at hand, haha, iwrestledabearonce should go on a US tour soon. I barely started listening to them but want them to come to San Diego asap, hah.

[EDIT] Hah, Aberinkula, this thread is about Metal? haha
Aberinkula, this thread is about Metal.

Oh I was so listening to them the other day... I love Michael's screams. I have no idea how he (or Claudio.. whichever) can do that banshee scream... Its bloodcurdling. But Michael's growl/rasps add alot to it, without over doing it. Like in "TCV II: Backend of Forever", he adds a nice growl near the end. :]

Though, CoC isn't extremely extreme, either, ha. Right now, however, I am listening to the metalcore act Poison the Well. These guys pretty much set the standard for metalcore, and were what made it so great, before everything turned to crap and all sounded the same. They used so much from hardcore... Its nice. My favorite song by them is "Torn" off of Distance Only Makes the Heart Grow Fonder. Other favorites of mine are "12/23/93", "Nerdy" and "My Mirror No Longer". You can definitely hear what made this band so different from these songs... I recommend them to any fan of any kind of metalcore, hardcore, post-hardcore, deathcore, whatever. This band is amazing, listen. Their new album Versions isn't as great... Because they tried a new style of music to stray away from normal metalcore... So, I have only the millions of copier bands that are out there to blame.

So, yeah. Go listen to Poison the Well... those songs I recommended are definite listens.

And mind you, Panache, we're talking about different bands everyday. I believe it's your own fault.. I mean. You're the one in the extreme thread, whining because your pop bands don't fit in. Make a new thread, or something. Keep it out of here.

Pertaining to the subject of Summer Slaughter Tour, I just picked up my ticket yesterday from a friend who's band is opening for the South Carolina leg of the tour. If you want to see a cutting edge technical death metal/deathcore band, here's a good one that I definetly like.

They are called Tales of the Black Freighter from Lexington, SC. They're named after the comic book within the graphic novel The Watchmen about a man who is marooned on an island by a demonic crew of pirates. After making a corpse raft, killing his own family, and doing many other metal things all under the influence of complete insanity, he joined the crew of the Black Freighter.

So, their music is generally themed around the premise of that story, pirates, war, and etc.

So check 'em out. My favorite song right now is "Legions". They are currently finishing a five-song demo right now.

Enjoy and discuss, shall we? The vocalist is a friend of mine and the closest thing to a vocal mentor that I have. Lemme know what you guys think, because I love it, particularly live.

This is a friendly reminder to chill out with the heated genre arguments. Please do not start that up again.

If you feel like yelling at someone for something that stupid, please do it over an IM service or through PMs.

I'm not pointing fingers, as I only scanned most of the posts, but I got the feeling that the debate is leaning in a bad direction.

Those who don't care about that stuff, carry on.

I listened to them for the sake of conversation, lol. They were good, enjoyable, etc. But to be honest, they need a little bit more of an originality factor, you know? But I'd definitely listen to them regularly if I owned a CD from them. Good stuff.

QFT, my friend. QFT.

To be honest, I'd probably get bored with them pretty fast if I had their CD.

"Legions" Live by Tales Of The Black Freighter

I saw this video cause someone left it as a comment on their page. If I'm being completely honest, I'm not really impressed. They don't have good stage presence, they're just standing there playing. Haha, wtf is up with that. I mean, I know people get nervous when they play live, but I can't stand when everyone in the band kinda just stands there.
They were alright though.

Like Whoa, Mann said previously though, they definitely are a bit lacking in the originality aspect of their music.

Anyone listen to Elysia's new CD "Lion Of Judas" yet?
Um, yeah.

I actually JUST got back from their show and they definetly didn't just stand there and play, but right on. I suppose the live experience is always different. But it was a kick-*** show.

Since I only listen to like... 10 or so deathcore bands, that all are different, I think I could stand to add them to my collection, though they have a long ways before they get to where Bring Me the Horizon is, or even Emmure. Gosh. You guys really should check out Embrace the End. They are definitely one of my favorite deathcore bands, ever. If you don't check them out, I will beat you... With your own arm.

Speaking of deathcore, has anyone listened to At All Cost or Arsonists Get All the Girls? AAC has alottttt of thrash and stuff in their stuff... And AGATG has like... well. Alottttt of grindcore... electro grind stuff that is. AGATG's new cd is kind of all over the place, which I thought when I bought it would appeal to me alot, but... this is a bad kind of all over the place. Not too great. But their debut CD was aweeesssome. "City of Angels Cakewalk" is one of my favorite songs off of it.

Ah... this feels too good. Before boothten showed up, no one else listened to deathcore on here. :]

The only CD I like by At All Cost is "It's Time To Decide." The song "Human Now" on there is really good, by far my favorite on the CD.

And I agree with you about Arsonists' new CD. I'm not a fan of it at all, "Hits From The Bow" is just way more appealing to me.

And I've been here at OB since 2002, hahah. I just wasn't active for a while, then came back. Granted, when I first joined I was listening to Linkin Park and what-not, hahahah. Good times, ha. I'm much more satisfied with the music I listen to now, to say the least.
The music I listen to now = secks.
;D!

Did anyone listen to any of Elysia's new songs off their new CD "Lion Of Judas" yet?
Haha, I sound pushy, I know. I just wanna hear other people's opinion of it.

Haha, well I would, but I have dial up, and the nearest Best Buy is 100 miles away. So. Yeah. lol

My band is coming out with a new song tonight, though I'd rather not advertise in a post. But if you don't mind, you could check it out... It's going to be a heavier song, broken up, with a build up and... omg. Gang vocals! Whooh. lol Should be a really fun one to play live, in August. We get alot of influence from bands like As Cities Burn, The Fall of Troy, Underoath, The Chariot... And others, of course. So on the subject, does anyone listen to As Cities Burn, The Fall of Troy or the Chariot? ACB and TFoT are favorites of mine, with the CDs Son, I Loved You At Your Darkest and TFoT's Manipulator.

So I just discovered porngrind, and I must say.... I love it. On the grounds that its so ridiculous that I laugh everytime I listen to it. Like, it never fails to make me laugh. The lyrics are always so god-awful-hilarious-brutal-disgusting, and you can't understand a thing the vocalists say anyways. I just laugh everytime I hear it. I would listen some of the more outrageous bands, but I can't because they all have sick obscenities in the names.

Torso****
Corpser****er
Wound****
Sperm Swamp

Funny stuff. I'm a fan of them like I'm a fan of Dethklok and Weird Al... God, its so funny. Though some of the riffs are respectable, but still. Wow, funny stuff.

THIS THREAD SHALL NOT DIE.

Anyone into All Shall Perish?
I can't wait for their new CD to come out.
This is a quote I got from one of their blogs:
Great news is finally here, we have been working frantically around the clock with Zach Ohren at Castle Ultimate Studios to create what we consider the heaviest, most cutting edge Perish album to date. Listening back on what we have already laid down in the studio, its apparent that we have upped our game again compared to the last CD. The new stuff literally is sending chills down my spine!
hahaha, their last CD was already WAY heavy and cutting edge! This is gonna be beyond brutal, I can't wait hah.
The breakdowns better sound good too, or I'll punch them all in the teeth.
I don't doubt they will though.
;D!

Thank you for the save, booth.

Yeah, I have several of their songs on my Zune and on a CD. They are one of the better Deathcore/Death Metal acts around. Definetly "prime" stuff. I need to start actually listening to them more, but I'm so busy warming myself up for Slaughter Tour that I just don't have the time.

On that note, I just bought my ticket a week ago. It's gonna be great! Just ten more days!!!

They're building up so much for that CD, ughhhh, I can't wait.
ha

Lucky! Haha, Summer Slaughter won't be in San Diego for another month and a half or so. I'm excited for it, but I'll wait.

Zen, how many people are you going with?

On a side-note, is anyone going to Warped Tour?
There are actually a few bands I really like who are gonna be playing, so I'm seriously considering attending the San Diego date.
