1. A small flash of light at the edge of the CPU indicated the arrival of another player to the starting area. Stepping cautiously forward Lara Croft surveyed her surroundings with a raised eye-brow. "How very intreuging," she murmered quietly. Dressed in her city clothes of jeans and a black t-shirt, Lara's pistols were placed securely out of view in snug holsters beneath her denim jacket and she hefted a small hold-all over her shoulder that carried a selection of outfits and equipment. Twirling the fine, yet mysterious blue feather between her fingers she approached the small creature who had interviewed her several days earlier. Her eyes scanning briefly over the moogle's head Lara noted the odd assortment of participents to the game and a small smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. Returning her attention to Mog she crouched down slightly and held out her hand in greeting. "Hello once more Mr. Moogle." Lara's voice was cheerful and polite as she greeted the small creature. The moogle made a strange chirruping sound and raised himself from the ground with a flap of his tiny wings, allowing Lara to straighten up to a more comfortable position. "Greetings! Kupo! How kupo of you to come!" The moogle beamed as he shook her hand enthusiastically. Lara grinned at Mog's antics. "How very...kupo," she tested the word "of you to invite me." She held out the blue feather that she had been playing with to him, "I was told I should bring this, correct?" The moogle nodded his head. "Yes, yes, but you can hold onto it for the moment. Please, make yourself comfortable and meet the other contestants. All the information about the game will be given once all the players arrive." Mog indicated the motley group of individuals that she had noted before. Taking her leave of the moogle Lara thanked him again and moved towards the group, her hands casually held by her sides as she observed each player in turn. Noticing the large array of pistols that were on show, she was suddenly very glad that she had decided to bring her own weapons along.
2. Yup, its the beginning of the end alright, it's all going to go up in smoke and hellfire t'be sure...mmhmm. Let the thronging mass of wailing, suffering, repentant humanity begin! Its the greatest show on Earth, and the last one too. So get your tickets today 'cause noone is getting into salvation without a ticket, no sir. Now I know you're all saying 'Doukeshi, we've heard this all before. You promised the end of the world in 2000 but there were complications with the acts and the main headliner was a no-show. Then you said 2001, it looked like it was all going to hell in a handbasket there but no! We were let down again! Why should we trust you now?' Well I'll tell you folks, this time you won't be disappointed. This time the show must go on and what an explosive show it'll be. Headlined by the Beast himself in the greatest comeback since the ressurection of Christ, this is an event for all the family!
3. I work at Matalan. Its a discount clothing store, though I don't think anyone outside of the UK will have heard of it. I've worked their for just over 3 years now, it can be quite tiring and boring I guess but I just love the people I work with. For some reason we all just form this big family even though we get new starters all the time (especially now seeing as its christmas temp time). Its cool.
4. Name: Lady Lara Croft Picture: Well I do have a wide selection of photos, mostly from my expeditions and with friends. I have brought several along since you seem so interested. This one was taken for tactical analysis purposes so it isn't very glamorous. This was taken on location in the Peloponnesian Mountains in Greece, I'm afraid I do like to show off sometimes. This final photo is a favourite of mine. It is a wonderful shot of my friend Frank and I out in the field, a very down to earth man, though I honestly can't remember who the person behind the camera was. Game: Oh there are far to many to choose but one I'm afraid, though they are mostly all part of the 'Tomb Raider' franchise. I am something of a heroine you know. Genre: I suppose you could describe it as an Action/Adventure Platform game, though it does, however, incorporate puzzles and the like so it isn't your traditional platform. Its not easy you know, solving all those puzzles while being mauled at by tigers, though I suppose it should come in handy for what we're about to embark on *chuckles*. Personality: My personality? Well that is rather difficult for me to comment on, from my perspective anyway. Nevertheless I shall give it a try. Coming from an aristocratic background I have been brought up to be polite, well spoken and with good graces and manners. These qualities seem to be greatly overshadowed, however, by my lust for adventure and danger and I'm never one to pass up on a good bit of fun. I can seem aloof, almost arrogant to some people I guess, though most of the time I just come across as calm, confident and somewhat devil-may-care in my attitudes, even in the most dire of situations. Don't let that fool you. When the time comes I can be deadly serious, and I do mean deadly. Talents: I am an expert in all kinds of weapons and hand-to-hand combat, though my favourite weapons are my automatic pistols and the Uzi 9mm. I am very athletic and I train constantly when not out in the field. Having said that, I am not all braun, I have the brains to match. Though I prefer to be out scaling the nearest cliff I can be quite useful when research is required. Despite what they say I really am quite bright you know *smirks*. Motive: A challenge is a challenge my friend. I'm afraid my competative streak is a mile wide especially when there is a prize to be had *winks*.
5.
But if you think that any swordsman has the reflexes to cut six bullets in half in a non-scripted environment, especially when its an experienced gunman shooting at them, you've been watching too much anime. There's a reason why the sword has fallen into disuse, and its not just because its easier to learn how to pull a trigger than it is to learn how to quickly kill someone with a blade. Guns are quick, long range weapons. If you came at me at with a sword and I had a semi-automatic, or even just a regular pistol, you'd be screwed.
Well yes, but to be honest few people learn swordsmanship these days with the intentions of going up against anyone with a frigging gun, be serious. Even if, say, I did go up against you with a sword and you had a gun, I'm not just going to run straight at you so you could just shoot me, hell. To learn something like this is a dedication to itself. Saying don't learn it because it's outdated is like saying don't learn history 'cause its in the past. It is an art form unto itself. Learning a martial art is not only based in the practicalities but also in the theology and philosophy. Where is the art in a gun huh? There is no grace or finesse in a gun, unless you're looking at something like Equilibrium, now that's something worth learning. Also, I appologise for my previous harshness sbrebaby but it did seem a little melodramatic, I see now my error.
6.
Also, sbrebaby, you are something. Having a katana left is extreme luck, I used to do kendo but I had to drop it since even if I had the few thousand bucks you need for a good katana, I'd spend them on a new lec' guitar anyway, lol.
A few thousand for a very good Katana yes, but you can get a great variety of Katanas that range from $50 upwards. My bro has one, its pretty poor but hey, he likes it. Kendo is a good way to go for beginners, it'll teach you the basics. P.S Did he honestly say "learn the ways of the sword" before he died? What is this, Feudal Japan?
7.
I'd like to see bigger, MSN messenger style smilies make their way onto OtakuBoards, I reckon they'd go down a treat.[/color']
Oh please don't, those things scare me something fierce. Also they would be abused on a regular basis by people who just like sticking them in for the fun of having a large goofy picture in their post.
8. Can anyone help me with this problem? I have a new game (city of villains if anyone is interested) and apparently it only works on DVD drives. I myself only have a regular CD-ROM drive and I was wondering if I can do anything to get the disc to work (short of buying a DVD drive myself). Any ideas?
9. I gave it another shot, and I actually learned a few things a long the way ^_^. Here's take 2:
10. Here we go Sagey...Sandy...whatever. Heh, I loved reading FF survivor a few years back so I hope I get a chance to actually participate in this one ^_~. Anyways, here's my contribution, its in two sizes since you can't really make out the 100x100 very well.
11.
Haha, I was so confused until I switched back to Liquid. Anyway, I love the theme. I'd been in a sour mood all day, but when I saw this, I had to smile. :catgirl: ~Dagger~
You really should stick to Liquid you know D, its much more interesting ^_~
12.
I love the word for clown in any language. ^_^ Doukeshi to me is "Dow-KESH-shee" with stress on the kesh as you said.
Thats how I said I don't want it pronounced lol. I place emphasis on the beginning of the word, on the Doh ^_~. If you say it fast enough, you miss out the 'e' all together, sort of like Doukshi
13. Heh chabichou, I always pronounced your name as cha-bee-choo, its nice to have that cleared up ^_~. I also thought that Xion was Zi-on too heh. Well my name is Japanese for 'clown', the way I pronounce it, however, is probably not how one would in Japanese. I pronounce my name as Doh-kesh-ee with the emphasis being placed on the Doh, rather than as some people may pronounce it being in the Kesh.
14. Maybe it could be made so you are limited to only a certain number of posts in the newbie lounge over the course of say a month. That means newbies would have to go out into the wide OB world. P.S If it is even possible to do so
15. Okay, I know that most of this stuff gets over looked and not many comments are ever recieved but I'm going to put it up anyways, just 'cause I'm that gosh-darned proud of it ^_^. This guy is what I've been working on for the past few weeks (it takes me ages to draw anything 'cause I keep putting it down and forgetting about it for days on end). Any comments anyone would like to make would be greatly appreciated, plus any ideas for names would also be useful ^_^.
16. I still can't say I agree with you man. What they are doing is no different from, say, christian pop songs. The message is not to everyone's liking and possibly even threatening, but until they actually do something damning like, oh I don't know, kill someone, then I don't really think that capital punishment is the way to go. It would be like killing your opposition in a political rally. Technically they themselves haven't done anything wrong, no matter how repulsive their views may seem to you. To them they are doing what they feel is right, not because they derive some twisted pleasure out of it (although they might, but thats not my point), they are saying these things because they view it as the best way to protect their race. In some ways, I guess such dedication is applaudable, but in most other ways its really not.
17. Of course your opinion counts, everyone's counts whether they're a newbie or as old as the halls themselves ^_~. This idea has been brought up again and again, and I'm sorry to say, you're probably going to get the same answer as everyone else. However I could be wrong, so we'll just wait and see huh ^_~?
18.
There is a certain point where the line must be drawn. These people are targeting children, whom we all know are incredibly impressionable, with their hate and their beyond-revisionist history. That is really, really bad - well, maybe not because they really, really SUCK at singing, but that hasn't stopped a few others... - because than you'll have an entire army of followers thinking how great Hitler and Himmler were. That is an offense punishable by death, in my opinion. You can't be tolerent of everyone, and there are those who do not deserve tolerence. These two are an example of that. You can't simply forgive them - it doesn't work that way, unless you put the foot down they're message is going to spread, and if they somhow cease to suck who knows! Somtimes lowering to their level is the only way to eradicate them - because Neo-Nazis, Klansmen, al-Queda, etc etc simply don't deserve tolerence. They deserve the worst.
Dude, its attitudes like this that breed hate like theirs in the first place. How do you think radicalist groups think "what these [insert minority group here] are doing is terrible, they must die!" Hate begets hate. For Gods sake it isn't like they've killed anyone. Comparing these people to Hitler is probably a compliment in their warped eyes. I can't believe you used the word eradicate, like these people are vermin. Just because their views are misguided and prejudice doesn't mean they should be killed. Thats Stalin putting to death anyone who spoke out against his regime, its not what we as a society stand for. I know you have good intentions man but thats what the road to hell is paved with.
19. Noone should ever die for their beliefs...ever. How many times have we seen this in history, of a person being prosecuted because of what they believe. This is how wars come about. Beliefs are a dangerous thing, as is hatred. Hatred begets evil, and since I honestly think that noone can be truly evil then so noone can truly hate, it is a pointless emotion that is bandied about far too often, without just cause or reason. As Gavin said, they should be forgiven for their misguided hatred and an attempt should be made to stop it. I have nothing against pride in ones own race, but in a time where race is no longer confined to a single nation or region but spread across the globe, absolute love of ones race disregarding and crushing everything else is just foolishness. Free speach is one thing, but inciting race hatred is another thing entirely.
20.
We can quiet clearly do without them aswell.
I know, but what I'm trying to say is, there is always so much more emphasis placed on white racism towards other cultures, hardly ever the other way round. Although it is terribly sad that such young children are being used to spread this hateful message. Sorta like sticking a bomb in a teddy-bear. Get a load of this picture, I dare you to tell me its not in the least bit disturbing: Scary...very scary P.S You're right ULX, the music is seriously bad, even if one ignores the lyrics
21. Here's one. I don't know how well it gpes with your avatar but since I really liked the images I used in it I'm going out on a limb that you might too ^_~. You might want to give a nod to danyanddany.com for the images I used if you want to use the banner though.
22. These girls being allowed to make an album based on their prejudices and racism, isn't that just like some black and latino rap artists putting white prejudices in their music. For Example: "Like my niggas from South Central Los Angeles they found that they couldn't handle us; Bloods, CRIPS, on the same squad, with the Essays [Latino gangbangers] up, and nigga, it's time to rob and mob and break the white man off something lovely"; "The Day the Niggaz Took Over"; Dr Dre, The Chronic, 1993, Interscope Records, under Time Warner in 1993. Racism goes both ways I'm sorry to say and is fed by one group retaliating to another group. What's going on here kind of reminds me of the movie 'American History X' and if these girls keep going on the way they are, they're going to get a big wake up call, especially in the music industry.
23.
Interesting.... Dagger, since Deucalion is dropping out, would it be possible for me to take his place? I'm just asking because I have a good Idea for a language barrier submission, and I am gutted that I missed the signups. I understand if you don't think it would be right, but it does give an alternative to the 'default scenario'.... the OBGT wildcard? Edit: There would be no delay to the rounds and structure to the event, as I would have something ready to roll out, in the case I'm called up to the plate. :p
I honestly don't think that would be very fair for you to just drop in. I mean you didn't even take part in the first round.
24. Yeah I remember Ginny, she made a sort of webcomic about FFSurvivor you know. I reckon that the first post I ever made was in X-men: Survivor that didn't even get off the ground. That was made by Patronus, who was going by the name of...let me think, it was before he went by Logan even. If anyone can remember I'd be greatful. Anyways, I haven't seen Patronus around here in a while, he was a good RP maker ^_~.
25. The Baron here has a good point. You can pretty much find anything on Google these days, so the hunt would have to be fairly obscure.
