I am afraid of losing my loved ones. I have already lost many of my friends to violence, suicide, and various accidents, so I fear that I will begin to lose my family, as well... I think that it might be my only true fear.
Smirk all you want; yes, you corrected me. Now go baske in it :p I wasn't smirking at you... I was smirking at the "everyone knows" part of what I was writing because it all seems very silly to me...

I don't know about bigfoot, nessie, or el chupacabra, but I have had many experiences with spirits and shadow people... and I'm positive that it's not just my imagination, because on many of those occasions, I wasn't alone... and I asked the person (or people) that I was with to describe what they had seen... and they had seen the exact same thing that I had... I've had very real experiences with both spirits and shadow people since I was a small child...but I couldn't explain why they happen... or even what they really are...I couldn't explain any of it to save my life...I just know that what I'm experiencing is real...

Where's the farthest place you have traveled to?
elfpirate replied to X/19Kamui99's topic in General Discussion
I've been to every state West of the Mississippi river and 3 States East of it. I've been to Mexico, but that wasn't too far at the time because I lived so close to the border that I could have beaned a Mexican national with a rock if I had felt like being a scumbag. I've also been to Canada- Vancouver, to be exact, and lived in Hawai'i... I'm not really sure where the farthest place I've travelled to is, because my travels always begin at different parts of the nation, but I've done quite a bit of travelling. Mostly in the US, though... so far. I plan to move to Australia or New Zealand within the next six months... -
I study a LOT. On my own time. Everything from Japanese to Quantum Physics. Sadly, I cant think of anything more unpopular in this day and age as voluntary learning. Oh, yeah... I learn things on my own, as well...I forgot that that was uncool... and my obsession with the first 3 Star Wars movies... I know there are a lot more uncool things about me that I'm simpply forgetting are uncool...:smirk:

Everything I've ever heard about Virgos is so different than the way that I am. I've looked through countless books, and it's so off that it's simply ridiculous... which makes me think that astrology is all a bunch of crap (no offense to those of you that believe in it). And, no, I wasn't born on the cusp. I should have Virgo traits through and through and I just don't...
My riddle: Golden treasures I contain, guarded by hundreds and thousands. Stored in a labyrinth where no man walks, yet men come often to seize my gold. By smoke I am overcome and robbed, then left to build my treasure anew. What am I? A bee's hive, neh? The golden honey, hundreds and thousands of bees, men take the honey, and smoke repels swarms... I hope no one posted this one yet, as I haven't the time to read all the new posts...but: What runs but never walks Has a mouth but never talks Has a bed but never sleeps Has a head but never weeps? Uh- you mean what do I do that other people would think was uncool... um... nearly everything I do. Reading and writing... drawing and painting.... Watching anime. Message boards. Playing the 'cello, viola, violin, and piano. Singing opera, Irish folk, Scottish folk, and sea shanties But the most socially uncool thing (for my age group) that I do is sew and make my own clothes. Well, okay- it's a toss-up between that and the opera singing... I don't really think any of these things are uncool, but I know other people do.

Not having any idea why your grades changed from their typical 4.0, I'll just assume that it's student burnout or distraction or whatever. I agree with Panda- bite the bullet, go to them, tell them about the slip in the grades, and if you have to, tell them why it happened... or why you think it happened (if you're not sure yourself). Be honest with them and they will get over it soon enough... unless you plan to make a habit of it- then it sounds like you should prepare for a parental nightmare. :smirk:
The religion I was talking about was Mormon. From what I understand, some man claimed to have found a book in the desert and rewrote the book to his liking..? I'll be honest that I don't know the details, so I will stand corrected if someone were to set that straight in my mind. Not to his own liking- they say that he discovered the "true" word of God ( and not in a desert, either- it was somewhere on the East coast of the United States- like New York or Jersey or something) and that he was their prophet- that the lost tribes of Israel travelled to the American continent so many years ago and buried some gold or bronze leaf that had the true word of God inscribed on them- not the words of the prophets and apostles, mind you, but the words of the Christ himself... and everyone knows that the true words of Christ negate anything some prophet or apostle said- even if it was in Christ's name... *smirking*...So he found the word of Christ, used a pair of magical eyeglasses to interpret what was written, and had visions of angels that came to speak to him, and thus became the Mormon prophet which the Book of Mormon was written after- though I don't think he wrote it himself... However, this true word of god on the golden leaves is once again buried or something until... I don't know when... and I think the magical glasses disappeared, too, somehow... I couldn't take it seriously enough to continue studying it after I asked the Mormon ...uh...missionaries?... why they view blacks as an inferior race and they became really angry with me for questioning that. I'm pretty sure that it stems from the whole Lost Tribes of Israel /master race bull****, though. And they believe that there is a modern prophet with us today that should be followed... or so the missionaries told me... Sorry I'm not as well-informed as I should be, but I thought I'd share what i remember from what had been shared with me by a couple of zealot missionaries that practically lived on my doorstep for a couple of weeks, refusing to answer my practical questions and also refusing to leave until it was beyond clear that I was not to be converted...
People who try to do in-depth analysis on trivial subjects.
Perhaps it's people who choose the entirely expected response... I guess someone had to attempt to post something cleverly insulting, though, huh? Effort is seldom rewarded- but no effort is even worse- no gold star for you...
But, to go off and say you've created your own religion..which has already been done by a very well-known religion. Hm. Is this the "hm" of doubt? I think that we are all capable of forming our own religions. After all, religion is a set of spiritual beliefs and we can believe anything we want to. Just because we've formed our own religions doesn't necessarily mean that we are forming our own churches or twisting the ideas of other religions, etc... nor that we necessarily care if anyone agrees with what we believe in. I have created my own religion- for myself- from what I have experienced and from what I believe to be true about the soul, about space, about time, about deities and everything else. And I really don't care if anyone else on the planet believes in what I do. And if it is the "hm" of doubt, then why did you refer to the "new" religion as a religion? You know... the "very well known" one? If you call it a religion, then they did, in fact, create their own religion, nes't-ce-pas?

It'll take me a bit to solidify my character, as I haven't had enough time to consider details, but I am anxious to see this get under way- I think it's got real potential... So I'll definitely work out my character and post again... and soon. :smirk: -
Careers: What's more important to you?
elfpirate replied to Kurai Ookami's topic in General Discussion
Interesting question. Let's see... I guess I would have to say that money in and of itself isn't a big factor in my career decision. Of course, I find that I'm compelled to ask the "how-much-does-it-pay?" question, because I don't enjoy starving in a cold apartment with no heat, water or electricity for lack of bill money. I do like to make sure that I can survive on the income. I don't, however, feel the need to be highly paid or become rich. I'm just not into that like a lot of people are. I would rather earn a comfortable wage doing something that makes me content with what I'm spending my life doing than to get rich at a job that I have to drag my reluctant carcass to every day. In case anyone's wondering, I'm going to be a chopper pilot and fly search and rescue missions... or work for LifeFlight ( air ambulance stuff). Adrenaline junkie job, through and through... -

Here's one that will freak out those of you that are claustrophobic...heh heh... When I was about 10, my family lived in El Paso, TX- right on the Mexican border, for those of you that don't know. Well, there was this couple that used to come over to visit my parents and they always brought their kids over with them. One day, in the middle of the summer, when it was over 100 degrees outside, one of their little girls and I were playing around my parents' car. We figured out how to open the trunk and soon began shutting eachother inside. It was no big deal, we thought, because there was a latch on the inside to open the trunk hatch. Well, she shut me inside for like the 3rd time and when it started to get stuffy in there, I tried the latch...and it broke. So I yelled for her to open it from the outside...but she couldn't, because I had just broken the latch. Instead of finding help for me, she got scared and just left me in there. I was in there for about 20 minutes...which is a REALLY long time to spend trapped in a tiny little car trunk in the El Paso heat, mind you... Finally, one of my parents asked her where I was and she confessed to shutting me in the trunk. My dad came out and began trying various things to get me out of there before I suffocated to death or my brain cooked. He tried everything before he finally ended up ripping the back seat off of its mounting to get me out(the car didn't have the fold-down-the-back-seat option- he ripped the seat out...bolts and all). All in all, I was probably in there for about 45 minutes. I'm not so sure that my brain didn't cook... but there's no mistaking where my claustrophobia comes from... and there's no denying my dad's brute strength *heh heh*.
Have you ever heard a "true" christian talk? Here is my example... YOU ARE GOING TO HELL IF YOU DO NOT DO EVERY SINGLE THING THAT I SAY! I've heard many "true" Christians speak, and believe me- they don't sound like that. My dad is a "true" Christian and when he speaks, I'm in awe because he is always articulate and ingenious. You would never hear anything like that (your quote up there) coming from him. It is the misinformed, theologically- challenged "Christians" that say things like that.
I guess acting your age to me means knowing when and where your actions are appropriate.
I think that's not so much acting your age, but the state of maturity. Otherwise, I agree with you, Panda...

That's a good one, Sinna... I have no idea...but you can bet I'll be trying to figure it out until I do...or until someone else posts the answer :smirk: Here's another: I am a 9- letter English word. I am a new English word every time you take away a single letter... from 9 letters down to one. What word am I and what are the words that are created by removing my letters one by one? This one, too, is kind of lame because I'm sure there has to be more answers than just the one... sigh... I'm doing my best with this state of caffeine-induced quasi-consciousness...
-
Okay, I thought of one, but it's kinda lame. He starts and ends two common English words- one painful in love and the other painful in everyday matters. What two words does he begin and end? I'll come up with some better ones in the future...I swear...

I think you're Simon- because if you use the common letters (or uncommon letters, as the case may be) in each set, you come up with Simon. ...and I'm trying to remember some riddles for this... but I'm quite sleep deprived at the moment. I did get the first one, as well (the envelope one) but didn't want to respond w/o adding another riddle...so I'll get some riddles going in a moment.

Ha ha...I wasn't a band nerd, I was an Orchestra nerd... and our uniforms weren't quite as bad, but have you ever tried to play a 'cello in a skirt? Yikes! Anyway, if that is what makes a nerd, then do we retain our nerd status when we no longer care about grades or haven't put on a stupid uniform in over a decade? (Assuming that the title is NOT self-imposed, as it is for those of us self-proclaimed nerds).

I figured it out to be Thursday, but don't quote me on that because I've been up for days without sleep and am no longer functioning at optimum capacity... *elfpirate drools down the front of her shirt while staring at a crack on the wall...* yeah- I think it's Thursday... This thread has the potential to get spammy, I think... maybe people could post other riddles?

Thanks for the opinions. I found my answer already, though- and, no, it wasn't taping... and that makes me happy, because taped hands make for restricted movement ;) . Thanks for the replies to a stupid question, everyone. :) Much appreciated!

I was raised in a very cult-ish setting of Christianity(... actually one of the couples from my chilhood "fellowship" ended up becoming the second-in-command at the David Koresh compound... and are now ashes...) so, for a long time, I thought all Christians were creepy, and I was forced to be one. My dad moved us away and out of communication with that group but still forced Christianity down our throats. When I got a little older, I began forming my own opinions and my own faith and moved as far away from organized religion as I could get. I guess I don't have a handy label to attach to my belief system- it's all my own... but discussing and debating religion and related topics with my dad ( who is one of the coolest, most ingenious people on the face of the planet) is one of my favorite things to do... and he no longer forces Christianity on anyone- he's grown up a lot :) . Now we both have our own religions and respect eachother's beliefs, though he still considers himself a Christian and I won't ever have to call myself that again...whew!
