I'm definately going to have to share my playlist with you! The Strokes, NOFX... I'm so stoked that there are members of the younger generation that actually like good punk! Other great artists (in my humble opinion): SNFU, The Vandals, AFI, Anti-Flag, Thought Riot, Alkaline Trio, Guttermouth, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Strung Out, Suicide Machines, My Chemical Romance... :catgirl:

Love them. Haha this is the second thread that you have noted a band that I enjoy!! Good taste in music my friend! I've always kind of liked random songs by them, War on Errorism really got me hooked though. I also have their "45 or 46 songs that weren't good enough to make it on the other albums" or whatever it's called. I also have their BYO split with Rancid. Quite interesting!! Favorite songs? Decom-Posuer Bob All Of Me Leave it Alone Kids of the K-Hole plus many more

Did you get this question from Swordfish??? But answering your question... sacrifice one to save millions.... That's a hard question. Because it hits your morals. I don't think I would ever be able to take another person's life, but if it could cure people of diseases... I mean, that would rid the world of so much strife... But at the same time, I wouldn't be willing to sacrifice myself because of my strange attatchment to my less than satisfying life; or more or less, fear of death. So who would I be to sacrifice someone else who more than likely would really like to keep breathing? And at the same time, regarding the "population control" comment that I glanced at, although it is true that disease and war and natural disasters keep up Darwin's theory that only the fittest survive... what would happen in a world where there was no disease? Either way I see it as a catch 22. I could probably spend the whole day thinking about it and still not be able to come up with any real conclusions.

-Are you male or female? -Where do ya hail from, stranger? -How old are you? -Do you have siblings? I'm a 19 year old lady from British Columbia, Canada. I'm a Gemini. I have one younger sister, although if you put us together I'm sure I'd be the one who you'd mistake for as younger. I have a boyfriend who's 5 years my senior, and we've been together 2 and a half years. He's just lovely. I'm a university student, currently taking Sociology, Psychology and Japanese courses. I have no idea what I want to do with my life. I also work part time as a sales associate. My hobbies would probably include listening to music, going to punk shows, watching anime, reading manga, playing video games on my PS2 and GBA, reading, smoking pot, playing softball (although I'm not very good), snowboarding (it's been a while though), and studying Japanese. I love to travel, and have been to many places in North America: Vancouver BC, Drumheller AB (they have a wicked Dinosaur museum!), Toronto ONT, Windsor ONT, Detroit MI, Louisville KY, Bowling Green KY, Nashville TN, Memphis TN, Tupelo MI, Orlando FL, Anaheim CA... as well as Oregon, North and South Dakota, Kansas and many other states on road trips with my parents (when I was younger though). Although I've never left N.America, I'd love to go to Japan, Portugal, Italy, France, Ireland, Scotland, Thailand, and South Africa. I know that I'd like to travel in the future, and perhaps even make a job out of it. I like mostly punk music, but I also listen to ska and other random genres. Andddd I'm here because I like anime, and like to post in forums to pass the time, as well as talk to people who share the same interests as me, and perhaps make some friends in the process. :catgirl:

Hmm... although it could be a desirable ideal, I highly doubt that the global community could pull something off like that. If it did, and I'm just gonna spout ideas here, a good idea would be to have a council consisting of elected officials from every country as the representitives of regions around the world. Although I don't really think having a "president of the world" would be a good idea. Power like that in the wrong hands would be a terrible terrible thing (imagine if Bush was elected? :animenose) then again, if it could be pulled off, it would be interesting to see what it would evolve into. However, such an economic system would probably not abolish the stratification in the world, and there is a good chance that those who are allready oppressed would be even more so. Still a world without borders would be nice thing. We're all people living on this planet we don't need to be so segregated... But, like I said, this is an ideal that would probably never happen.

I have seen quite a bit of publicity regarding this anime, although I haven't yet seen it. There have definately been comparisons to Romeo and Juliet, and I've heard comparisons even to Naruto... that it's a bloodier version of Naruto, perhaps a more adult version. Unfortunately being that I haven't seen it, I guess I can't really contribute too much to this thread... I guess what I'm wondering is it worth d/l'ing or buying? Also, any word if it will be hitting any TV stations?

I really want to go to Anime Evolution in Vancouver. Hopefully I'll be able to attend this year, last year my work schedule didn't work out too well for it. I'd really like to take my boyfriend. He's not an otaku or anything, but I'm sure he'd enjoy all the things that there are to do there. Although I don't think he'd want to be around me if I decided to do cosplay! We'll see. If all else fails I can just wear an anime t-shirt and I'll be good. And thank you Panda for all those tips and stuff, this would be my first convention ever, so it's nice to get a heads up as to what kind of experience to expect :)

Anime Gundam Franchise getting stale?
KatanaViolet replied to ManjoumeThunder's topic in Otaku Central
Nay, KV, 'tis not blasphemous to note the shortcomings of SEED. ^^ What was it that made Gundam so successful? Was it the outstanding mecha designs and concepts that were like breaths of fresh air to a generation numbed by five-man robot teams? Was it the shaky alliances and rivalries between various political organizations (certainly more interesting to watch than, say, a dull battle between Bozanians and Earthlings)? Or was it the characters who we saw maneuvering mechas with god-like piloting skillz, and erring as normal humans do at the end of the day? All of those could be found in the Gundam series, past and present, Mobile Suit Gundam to Gundam SEED. The format, the animation and the creators may have changed, but all of them were true Gundam series at the core. No. You've said it yourself: the Gundam franchise often had several failures along with several success stories. If you think Gundam SEED was a failure, perhaps a mind-blowing installment is just over the horizon. (Plus, I'm sure they couldn't ignore the legions of classic-Gundam fans lobbying for stages similar to the old Gundam series, yeah?)
It was a somewhat sarcastic remark, a joke more or less. Of course, being that SEED got me into the Gundam Franchise, I have not been able to compare it to the other Gundam series. Perhaps comparing it to the others, it may not be as good. But I thought that the plot was always intriguing, as well as the struggles that the characters go through. The political and battle lines that are crossed, I thought it was very well done. Perhaps if I saw other Gundam series I would see things differently than you guys, because I would be comparing them to SEED rather than vice versa. I wasn't meaning to be ignorant, just a difference stance I guess. :animeswea -
I'm at episode 130 ish... And let me say that I really hate Sasuke now.
Joining Orochimaru to get more power and ignoring Sakura and fighting with Naruto... he's just so foolish!! And obviously he's being used... baka... It's sad too because I used to think Sasuke was really cool with his Sharingun and how he can use shuriken...
I still don't know what's going to become of all of it... But it'll be good!

it's very neat, I like how the picture is all etchy looking and bad ***. There's some things there that I don't quite understand, but hey, it's all good! 8.5/10

it's very cute, hehe, I quite enjoy it. Although I think it could really use some color and shading to give it more emphasis.. But that's better than anything I could ever do! Well done.

Anime Gundam Franchise getting stale?
KatanaViolet replied to ManjoumeThunder's topic in Otaku Central
Because your a new member, I can forgive you for that blasphemy. :catgirl: SEED is the first part of the Gundam Franchise that I've ever gotten into, so I can't really compare it to anything else. I quite enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to the new spinoff, whenever it does make its appearence. Since I don't know about the Gundam franchise enough to make a completely valid argument against you, I'll note that SEED Destiny should be coming out in N.America within the next 5 months, I believe. Yes, I am stoked. -
YAY! I got 3rd place?! I finally came up with something somewhat good! :D "It was not even 10 minutes into the battle when Byakuya realized he forgot to tape American Idol"

I do, I baught my boyfriend their new CD, "Impressions of Earth"... but I put it onto my computer. It's really good, a little different from their older stuff, but still got alot of the same elements. Good songs to check out are "Juice Box" "Razor Blade" "On The Other Side" "Ask Me Anything" But the whole album is good so I'd reccommend taking a listen to it. :animesmil

Yet even after all that, you still want to snowboard (or ski)! Eventually your body gets used to it though. I haven't had alot of excercise lately, and my 9 year old cousin got me to spend an hour just dancing to music with her... that was 2 days ago and I'm still sore!! Imagine what'd it'd be like if I went snowboarding hahah I probably wouldn't be able to move... Haha totally unrelated, but have any of you ever been on those T-bars? we have them at the mountain I used to go to, and my cousin took me up there one time, but I guess I was too little or something because the t-bar started to lift me off the ground and then I fell right on my face. ahhh good times good times... I miss the slopes... I wish I had people to go with me!
[IMG]http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/2/23/200px-Man_being_arrested.jpg[/IMG']
pretty much!! Skeith, take all this advice with a grain of salt, not all of it would be useful. You certainly don't want to be the annoying stalker type... girls don't really dig that. If you get too persistant, she will likely not even want to be your friend, because it'll be just wayy to awkward. Other than that, good luck with everything, it'll be ohhhtay!

Meh, I'm indifferent about it. Although I don't share your enthusiasm Avenged, tt can be fun just to rock out and whatnot... but I can't stand people in pits who just giver and think that moshing just means beating the crap out of whoever gets in your way. It's almost as pointless as when your at a show and EVERYONE is pushing trying to get to the front, so everyone who actually is in the front gets squished. It sucks. But I guess everyone wants to be in the front. For me, I've learned that little people do not belong in mosh pits. People don't seem to have any regard for little people, and I really don't like the idea of getting trampled at my favorite show. No matter how fun it is, there are some jerks that just go all out. I almost had a guy punch me in the face once at a show because I told him to eff off after he pushed me, when I was not even trying to join in the pit. [sarcasm] I guess he was just too punk for me![/sarcasm] UGH, and don't get me started on crowd surfers. :animeangr

Sorry to hear that buddy, but you know what, it's better that you know you don't have a chance now then torturing yourself for 2 more years. Even though it's easier said then done, the best thing you can do for yourself is to move on. I'm sure that it would be hard, because when you like someone for that long, you can't exactly just turn the feelings off. But I give you kudos for telling her how you feel. At least you had the backbone to do that much (sooo it was after two years of being a wimp, you still did it!). But these things happen, you got to get used to the fact that you could always be rejected. It's a horrible feeling, but it happens... and it SUCKS. It's how you pick yourself up from that rejection that is the next step. Just because she's not interested now doesn't mean that she might not be down the road. Try to keep it platonic, don't push her and you never know. And if she doesn't, then believe me, you'll find a girl who will appreciate you, but don't let the one that got away make you blind to it... I hope that was good advice... :animeshy:

I don't even care if it's considered anime or not. That's was so cute!! It had some anime style animation... So I don't know if it being from Korea makes a difference. I mean, wasn't Hello Kitty from China? Or am I just crazy? I could be just crazy, but I thought I heard that somewhere. But that was a great little flash-vid. Good song too! I give it a thumbs up!

I'm SERIOUSLY going INSANE . . .
KatanaViolet replied to ilovekyonkichi's topic in General Discussion
Well, first of all, your post quality needs some work. Some people here might be willing to make fun of you, not only because of your little crush but also because of the way you wrote it. I'm not one of those, though, so don't worry...just try to be more legible in the future, okay? =) Anyway, I kind of know how you feel about this. I really liked a character on Degrassi, Rick, even though it was just a TV show (but at least he was played by a real person and not drawn on paper). You probably don't *love* Kyo, really, but maybe you just really like his character and personality. He's probably more of a favorite character than obsessive crush. You just need to tell yourself that it's a drawing that isn't alive, and it won't ever be able to like you back. Maybe you should lay off the anime for a while, too.
Yea, see, I would probably be one of those people. But I won't be right now, because it's just too sad to poke fun at... What Amelia says is right. I mean, I'm sure we all have characters that we absolutely adore. I love Inu Yasha, Kakashi, and Kenshin. But they are FICTIONAL characters, nothing more. I know that these are just characters that I can either identify with or they just entertain me. Awesome characters bring an anime to life. HOWEVER, there's a line that is crossed when one becomes an overly obsessed otaku/fangirl. And then you just make an *** of yourself. And I'm sure you don't want to do that. Or maybe you do, I dunno. But seriously, take it easy on the anime. You need to get back to reality my friend. -
I so know where you're coming from. When I first learned snowboarding, I was with a friend, and we had been practicing on the bunny hill for about twenty minutes (which is like, nothing, considering how hard it is to pick up snowboarding basics). Then my dad shows up and forces us to go down the intermediate slope... It actually helped me, though. The bunny hill really didn't do anything for me. It was too small and short, so you barely had time while going down it to actually practice. For the first half of that intermediate course, I felt like dying. There was one point where there was so much snow that I fell, got up, and then fell immediately again four times in a row. Much pain. But then I was pretty pissed at myself, so I put on a 'screw it' attitude and I got it then. v_v
It was definately not fun I'll tell ya. I've never fallen that hard since skiing though. I've taken some pretty rough tumbles snowboarding but I always just get back up and keep going. I find that falling is a given, at least until you can get the hang of balancing your edge and carving and all that stuff. But you can be expected to fall, and definately be expected to be hurting the next day! Man, I wanna go snowboarding now. :animecry:

Definately my Movie Quote game... not only did I create it, but I slaughtered it with lack of planning and no structure whatsoever... *sigh* It was a good idea in my head, but it just didn't work out. Other than that, I think I've been pretty good with not killing threads. I hope!
