The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty of 2006 (Nominations Thread)
pooperson replied to Shy's topic in General Discussion
What is it?: Raiyuu. Why is it nifty?: I first joined the forums in June, so of course my first [double] post was poor-quality. Raiyuu was the one to give me the "Welcome to the OtakuBoards" shpiel. Ever since then, Raiyuu has been kicking butt for new members' post quality to improve, and it makes me proud. :] What is it?: [Thread] What do you Look Like? Why is it nifty?: It was a nice thread with good intentions, but it did get to the point where it went a little too far. It was very interesting to finally see pictures of people who I had simply imagined online -- however, finding out that some were female instead of the males I had imagined [and vice versa]... well, that was creepy. The whole forum in itself let everyone get to know each other a little beter... but I do think that when it got more views than the "Rules" sticky, it was time for it to pass on. What is it?: Otakupedia Why is it nifty?: For new[ish] members such as myself [June 2006], this is a great way to understand the history of the OtakuBoards. I read and reread it so much it's crazy, and I've found myself searching for the threads mentioned in it [example: the meeting of Adam and masterfork]. It's a great reference for questions and overall curiosity! What is it?: [Thread] The Game Why is it nifty?: Because I hate it. Everyone hates it, yet no one could stay away from it. It is 10 pages of "The Game" stories and even some posts simply saying, "Oh ****, I just lost it". How this thread did not get locked is beside me. But the point is, it brought about one common thing for everyone to be ****ed off at, and it is a truly entertaining thread to read when I'm bored. -
Name: Princess Consuela Bannanahamock.
Love the "Friends" reference. I laughed a bit. -
Ah, 11 hours until the double-oh-seven. I plan on maybe gaining some weight... I'm pretty sure my weight for my height is unhealthy. Of course, I also want to be drum major... ahhh... And then my never-ending goal... a boyfriend would be nice. Happy New Year, OtakuBoards.
That's an understandable concern, but I have confidence that since there's so much interest in competing, that the judging side will also have a substantial portion of interest. Did I just spell substantial right? It looks wrong to me.
Why yes, yes you did spell "substantial" correctly. Just so you know. -
Man it?s a small world after all.
Small world... or big internet? ;) Anyway, so one day to live, huh? Well, I would accomplish everything I would have wanted to accomplish in my lifetime. I would kiss the guy I like and tell him that I like him. What an experience that would be. Then I would probably do something music-related. I really have no idea what. Then, of course, I would write to all my good friends and leave my good-byes. At the very end of my day, I would probably try some wine. Yes, I'm underage... but I've always wanted to try it. I would die praising Jesus.

I have already decided that I am going to drink when I get older. I was constantly in the state of mind that drinking was bad up until a few months ago when I got my job... at a Restaurant/Bar. However, I do know where my limits will be. For example, I won't get drunk often, and I will never drive after drinking -- I've seen the effects of these. :animeangr There are only a few drinks that I want to try, anyway. These include wine and martinis. At the bar I work at, there is definitely a chocolate martini, and it looks fantastic. Plus, I love the smell of wine, and I think church wine is awesome. Unfortunately, my family [both sides] has a history with alcoholism, so I have to be careful. Thankfully, I have another 5 years to worry about all this ;)

My perfect day... hmm... Well, first of all, much like with Dario, there would be music in the background - like in a movie. I can't just list the songs, so I'll walk you through my perfect day. I wake up at 7:00 AM. I never get up early, but I would like to on my perfect day. The music is "Molly on the Shore", composed by Percy Grainger Suddenly, I get a call from one of my guy friends whose name will be disclosed. Anyway, Asdf (his name) asks if I want to go out for coffee with him. While at the coffee shop, the song "In My Life" is playing. Of course, Asdf tells me he likes me -- "Hanging by a Moment" by Lifehouse. Asdf has to leave, so I hang out with my good friend Jkl; for a few hours. With "Life is a Highway" by Rascal Flatts playing in the background, we go to Kohl's and buy stuff. I find a perfect pair of jeans 80% off, and they actually fit me. :wow: Then, the rest of the day, various Wonderful Things happen to me. Example - my crappy coworkers get fired --- "The Remedy", by Jason Mraz. Also, I am made drum major of the marching band -- "Vertigo", by U2. It's a pretty awesome day.

Okay, so a few hours ago I went and got my first tattoo done. It's a "Jesus Fish" [or "ichthus"] a few inches to the right of my left hip bone. Naturally, I have been thinking about it for years, and now that I finally have it done, I am curious to know if anybody else on the Boards has one? Here are my questions [& answers]: 1. Do you have a tattoo? How many? If not, do you want one? Yes, obviously. Just the 1. 2. What is it of and where? [Or what do you want to have?] Ichthus - left hipbone. 3. Do you regret having one? Have there been any negative affects of it? N/A 4. Does it/Would it have any special meaning to you? It represents my relationship with Jesus Christ. Since a tattoo can not be changed, I wanted it to be something that I KNOW will never change -- my faith.
I never actually used a pick up line before, but I was randomly searching the web the other day and found this: "Baby, can I be your DNA helicase? 'Cause I want to unzip your genes."
Ha, in my freshman year, my boyfriend and I were listing our favorite ones. There weren't that many at the time, but now there are 10 zillion more that are amazing, such as: "I Wish I Were Your Derivative So I Could Lie Tangent To Your Curves!" Ohhh yes, Math Nerds unite! I've never used a pick-up line, nor have I had one used on me, but I think it would be so much fun! I'm going to the mall next week, so I might try the above one. However, there is also: "I seem to have forgotten my phone number... can I have yours?" But anyway, I love pick-up lines. I think they are HILARIOUS, and I semi-respect anyone who can use them. ;]

I work at a Sports Bar, and every day I come home smelling like cigarettes. In fact, I'm wearing my work pants now, and I can smell it horribly. So your parents probably know. And if they're anything like my parents, they'll be more pissed at your for lying than for smoking. And I would recommend quitting, but that's just me... I'm allergic to cigarette smoke... :animeswea [Something I'm glad to have found out while I'm still underage]!

This year, my Turkey Day was not a Turkey Day. In fact, my immediate family has not eaten turkey on Thanksgiving in years. Usually, we substitute it for ham or chicken, but due to my getting my wisdom teeth out on Monday, we chose pizza instead this year. However, we do not just order out. We make our own pizza, and it's a good time, really. And it tastes awesome. Then for desert we had ice cream. Simple enough, really. On Friday we went to my grandparents' house for the turkey. Then on Saturday we were supposed to visit with the large Latvian side of the family, but my dad wasn't feeling well, so we stayed home. And of course, on Friday, Saturday, & Sunday I had/have to work at a sports bar. Did you have any idea the number of people who eat out right after holidays? It's crazy.

Gender segregated classrooms? Yay or Nay?
pooperson replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
I believe that integration of sex in the classroom can help students to better their social skills. Thus, more people will be "people people", and the world will be a much happier place. Not everything that you learn in school can be taught by a book, and the ability to work cooperatively with others is one of those skills. However, if you are female and are exposed only to an environment of other females, then how can you learn anything about the male mind? [and vice versa]. I believe that it is important for students to be exposed to both genders. For girls like me, communicating with boys is much, much easier, so if I was put in a classroom full of girls, I wouldn't know what to do at all. Not that I hate girls or anything, but I just prefer the presence of both genders. :D -
Oh my. Somebody always has to get upset about something, don't they? This is too insane. I hate how "politically correct" we must be in America - I mean COME ON!!!! I am totally against taking the word "God" out. A vast majority of Americans call themselves Christian [76%/78% including mormons], and another 2% still believe in God [Muslim & Jewish]. Why should we change what 80% believe to be good in order to please 20%? These people could not say "God" if they really didn't want to. But I would simply request that if they don't say "God" then, that they also don't say "Oh, my God", etc. :nope: But still. Even if they did take out the words, I would still say them. Loudly. But at any rate, I think that political correctness is ridiculous. People need to accept things how they are --- you can't change everything.
1. What religion are you CURRENTLY following? If you don't have one, then why?
I am a Lutheran, of the Missouri Synod. Basically, I believe in the BIBLE and in what Martin Luther had to say about it.
2. Why do you follow that religion? Parents, personal reasons, etc?
At first, I HAD to go to church... but I never really didn't like it. Now I go because I choose to. It's a good experience for me, and it strengthens my faith. And by the way, I believe it because I feel like it's right, and it makes sense.
3. Do you ever feel that people often critisize you because of these beliefs?
Oh, all the time. My best friend is Buddhist, and I never hear the end of it about how Christians are horrible people. I am in constant pressure to swear, hate people, be pessimistic [especially about religion], etc.
4. This one may spark a little bit of arguing: Do you believe that your religion is the one true religion? If so provide evidence.
Not limited to Lutheranism, but I believe that the only way to get to Heaven is through Jesus. There is no title for that. And my evidence is the Bible.

Last year, my high school split into a second high school [I go to the old one], and these past two weeks have been Homecoming weeks for the old & the new schools. They've been very exciting -- lots of traditions have come back and begun again. Last Saturday was my high school's homecoming dance, but I couldn't go because of Marching Band, so I am going to the NEW school's dance today with some of my friends. So my questions for y'all: 1. Have you ever attended a homecoming dance? If so, what was it like? Was the music good? What kind of dress did you wear?, etc. 2. How does your school celebrate homecoming? 3. What has been your favorite homecoming experience? Here are my answers. 1. Yes - 2 years ago, and tonight. It was a bunch of fun, I just went with my soon-to-be boyfriend and a few friends. The music sucked, but it was still fun... My dress was a black halter, knee-length... it was gorgeous! It sucked though because my crush at the time went with one of my friends, and I thought they were going out... that wasn't so much fun. Plus, I didn't really know many people except for those who I came with. But still, it was a good time. Tonight's should be better though! =] I'll be seeing all my old friends who go to the new school. 2. We have all sorts of crazy stuff. We have a dodgeball tournament [which is actually really cool!] with a bunch of crazy teams from our school... We have a bonfire, which is LOUD. I've never been there, but it's right by my house, & I can hear it! Our powderpuff football game is Jr's vs Sr's, and it's SO CRAZY!!! We adore it! There's lots of cheating too ;] ... And then, of course, there is the pep rally, which includes a Dance Contest, Chariot races [where people build chariots and race them around the track], performances by the cheerleaders & all them, obstacle courses... it's a load of fun! 3. Hopefully tonight! Feel free to share! :D

What a fun question... I am two weeks shy of 16, and I have 2 jobs. Let's start with the first: 1. A party store. It's actually a lot of fun. I started working there last November, and I basically do a LOT. The big thing is making balloon bouquets - that's what we're known for. I'm really good at it... I love to do it now. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten many hours lately... My pay started at $6.50/hour, but now it's up to $6.75. On months when I get hours, I usually make about $200. 2. A restaurant & bar. I'm supposed to be hostessing, but I basically bus tables. I got this job about a month ago or so, & I'm getting paid $6/hour + tips [which you don't get a lot of, as a hostess]. My jobs are both great because I get to see a bunch of kids. I LOVE them, so these jobs are perfect for me! =]

I've already replied to this, but I have a question for all you band kids out there =] Have you ever played Barnes's Symphony Number 3? I played it last spring, & I just found myself singing it... again, for maybe the 300000th time this year. It's still an amazing song though. I got to play the flugelhorn, which is very VERY cool. Also, who is your favorite composer? Mine is definitely Percy Grainger. I've played quite a few of his pieces... they never cease to amaze me. For example, Children's March is full of so many elements it's incredible! Same goes with Molly On the Shore... =] But October by Eric Whitacre is "the song" at our school. Everybody is madly in love with it... and yet we haven't played it in years :animeangr

Wow... so many of you I thought were guys, & you're girls. My goodness. And a few the opposite... but not many. I never really pictured any of you... but I did expect a lot of you to look a lot... nerdier. No offense at all because none of you really look *nerdy*... All of this is making me think of senior pictures. I can't wait to have mine done! Blase, your pictures are GORGEOUS! You are lucky to have your mom as a photographer... that would rock! And kudos to those of you using photoshop! It rocks! I don't have it, but I have a knock-off of it... This (sort of) leads to a question. Girls (or guys) - What are you most insecure about with your appearance? I mean, you don't have to answer... I'm just curious. For me, it's my smile. Ugh. I look down when pictures are taken of me so you don't see a gap in my teeth.

WHITE... AAH! You're gorgeous! Your hair! It's so... wonderful!!!!!!! I remember first seeing it in my "Hair" forum. DON'T EVER CHANGE IT!!!!!!! Everyone here is so pretty. I'm jealous.

I don't think I'm superficial. I have dated people who are not the most attractive, & most of my friends weigh at least 20 pounds more than I do. I don't really look at looks as that important... But when it comes to hygiene, I believe that's pretty important. The only time I really don't shower is when... 1 - I have NO TIME at all. 2 - I have a football game to perform at with the marching band. 3 - I have a contest to perform at with the marching band. or 4 - I have an all-day Saturday practice with the marching band. God told me to take care of my body, so I do that. I mean, if I had to, YES, I would go a week without a shower. But on any given week, no. I did a research paper on this a few months ago... I actually sent out surveys asking that question. There are actually quite a few teenagers who would do that...
-
I'm in marching band, so I am overly thankful for water coolers & such. OMG... they're the best ever. And water bottles... and water. Also, I LOVE sunscreen! I would DIE without it!!!!! Not to mention frozen grapes. If you've never had them, you need to try them. They're like eating a drop of wonderful. And... dixie cups. Oh-so small & reusable, cheap & reliable... and easy to carry at football games. Plus, if you spill your water.... you can get more. =]

CANCER, I love your hair, especially in your first picture. It's basically gorgeous. This is the evolution of my hair...
