Why are there yaoi couple jokes?

I know that some jokes about yaoi couples are funny, but now I think they're downright offensive. The animators of the shows have talked about them, but they continue to make jokes about them. Most likely they claim that they didn't hear of this, but they probably did. That fad is sort of stupid now, and I think those people are :butthead:'s.

I'm not 100 percent anti-yaoi anymore (I really think Knives/Legato is a good pairing, so don't sue me ~.^) however I agree with you on some of the other fan couples.

Kenshin/Sanosuke, Vash/Wolfwood, Spike/Jet, and even Heero/Duo REALLY annoy me, and I detest those pairings. These characters are friends, co-workers, whatever but NOT lovers, and to add yaoi to their relationships cheapens rather than deepens the story.

If your calling those couples yaoi your insulting anime! But I agree you never know when a bunch of yaoi come to this site.

Yaoi, in many cases, is often a side story made up by fans. They are fantasies of writers, animators, artists, fans, and anyone who wants to. They have nothing to do with the original plot of any anime in most cases, cause they aren't meant to. The meaning of a fantasy is to make up something to entertain and turn you on effectively.... these people who do yaoi, and often those who like yaoi, have no concern with original, boring, most often heterosexual, plots. That defeats the whole purpose, lol.

Yaoi stories/manga/art are often meant for the sole purpose of turning someone on. They are much like porn in a sense. Porn is made for the sole purpose of sexual pleasure. There are stories/mangas that don't focus on sex, usually romantic ideals, which are usually the obsession of women and girls. These are the "cute" or "loving" stories some may see, read, or whatever. These again do not care about original plots or story lines and are simply made as a side story. Something again out of the imagination, a fantasy.

Yaoi, hentai, Shoujo Ai, Shounen Ai, whatever there is are not made to care about original story lines or original plot lines in many cases. If they do, it's usually a small amount which is then altered based on how the animator or writer feels fit. Anime is all fiction, it's all ideas of people, the same goes with Yaoi and Hentai writers and artists. Most often on the ideal of the characters are mentioned, and even then there are some very original yaoi and hentai out there which do not focus on any characters from any anime.

Hey, didn't you even READ my post? I said that those couples (with the exception of L/K which I mentioned as possibly yaoi) were not yaoi in my opinion.

You totally misunderstood my post. :tasty:

They sure are, aren't they?

I really think it's unnessecary to actually make a thread about you hating yaoi. Keep it in your sig...

People make up yaoi jokes/fanfics/fanart because they think it's interesting. Some people just like yaoi pairings better than heterosexual pairings.

Personally, I make up my own version of most of my favorite anime (in my head!) because I want to change SOMETHING about the series (change a pairing, make up a pairing, put in another character, etc). A lot of people I know do this. If they want to put in yaoi, that's their business, and if they want to write it down and post it on the Internet, that's their business too. Somebody out there enjoys it, and if you don't just avoid it. It's not very hard.

I don't like it, though. I'll read it if there's something else interesting about it, but I don't like it very much.

Hmm....

I actually like some Yaoi pairings, like Hikaru and Akira pf HNG, and
Naruto and Sasuke... not to mention Legsy and Gorny from LOTR...

I do't think they're often jokes.Normally stories.. And sometimes they're really well written, with other storylines besidedes to male characters being togehter...*shrugs*

Personally, I'm neutral towards the whole same sex coupling in anime/manga/what have you. I think that most of it is just extremely bored people come up with so that they can keep themselves busy.

I just keep an open mind towards this kinda thing. I've read shonen-ai, shojo-ai, and regular (unleaded) hentai. Though I admit, I'm against a few pairings, if I come across one I don't like, I stop reading. Why put yourself though reading you don't like?
Just remember someone else created it. Wheather you like it or not is your deal.

(Can't believe I originally misspelled remember...)

Sigh. Why can't everyone just be a little more accepting? It's not that hard....

It just annoys me when people are rabidly anti shonen-ai or shoujo-ai. Every individual is entitled to his or her own opinion. That doesn't mean you have the right to force yours on the rest of the planet.

I like some shonen- and shoujo-ai, but not all of it, just as I don't like all straight pairings.

It'd be nice if people who dislike yaoi couples at least bothered to make constructive criticism, rather than pointless insults. To be fair, many do. It's the ones who don't that start to get irritating, especially when they all say the same thing, over and over.

Anybody agree?

Look above you. As you can see I'm neutral. Which for me has always been a safe bet.

I guess my main problem w/ yaoi jokes and fics is that they are completely untrue to the personalities of the characters. Fanfics are fine w/ me when you make sure you stay true to the characters as they are in the series/movie/whatever.
If you really want to write yaoi, don't use characters that are obviously (or at least very likely) heterosexual.
I agree with Transtic Nerve that most yaoi fics are like porn. It's meant to be kinky...nothing else.
I haven't seen very many cases where a yaoi relationship was obvious. The one that have to use is Kaworu and Shinji in Neon Genesis Evangelion. Duorocks17 keeps arguing that Kaworu just doesn't understand human emotion which is why he acts the way he does. And perhaps Shinji just goes w/ it b/c he feels a need to be close to someone after all he's been through. I still think that at least Kaworu is gay. (duorocks17 is in denial b/c she has a crush on him!!!) ;)
Anyway, sorry if I offended any yaois. I didn't really mean to.

This heavily offends me too. I mean, I'm actually a fan of Legato/Knives and even some Legato/Midvalley yaoi, but like I said, Wolfwood/Vash makes me want to throw up. I mean, those characters are very likely heterosexual (at least in the anime, in that Vash is a flirt to the extent of being perverted and that Wolfwood was obviously involved with Milly to *some* extent)

Not all shounen ai or even yaoi is necessarily porn, however the porn writing vastly outweighs the better stuff (i.e. in-character fics exploring serious if controversial/uncomfortable ideas, parody that's actually funny, serious relationships) and the yaoi fanart images are exclusively porn because they leave nothing to the imagination, leave nothing implied.

I still don't see why it's so offensive, however, we'll just leave that one be. Fanfiction, is fans writing what they would like to happen on the show that they know would never happen otherwise. It's developing new ideas and scenarios that the fans want to see with the characters that they know and love.

On the topic of not being true to characters, hardly anyone can get characters completely as intended in fanfiction and, just because they are "obviously straight" in the manga/anime doesn't always make it so. I knew a guy that was the straightest guy you could know, he flirted, had girlfriends, watched porn etc and he turned out to be gay.

On the fanfiction porn aspect. Porn is found in all fandoms whether or not they are yaoi/shounen-ai. You go out there and look for a Trowa/Catherine, or a Tamahome/Miaka fic your gonna find PWPs and NC-17s without even trying. I could name you many shounen-ai/yoai fics of great substance and story because that is what I look for. I don't go around looking for yaoi porn and then complaining that's all there is.

On the fanart porn aspect. Exclusively? Hardly. If you go onto google and type in yaoi, or shounen-ai on the image section you will find more none porn images than actual porn images. Go on elfwood and do the same, there are wonderful yaoi images that have nothing pornographic in them. Like I said it all depends on what you're looking for.

Here are some examples

http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/fanq/m/i/mirana2/shinkaw.jpg.html

I rest my case. This isn't just getting at you Millie ^_~ you just happened to be the most quotable.

When I think about it, the only anime yaoi pairings I like are pairings with people who really do make people think they're gay.

For example, Kaworu and Shinji. Anti-yaoi people might argue that Kaworu is
an angel and therefore cannot be 'gay'
and that Shinji and Kaworu just had an extremely deep friendship. Yeah, that works too, but in the series, Kaworu
actually says, "I love you." Not in the friendly sort of way, but Japanese for I really love you.
There are a number of yaoi pairings that are insanely popular, but most of them are based off of probable personalities. The HeeroxDuo pairing came in top five for Favorite Anime Pairings in the Animerica magazine. Why? [OK, right off the bat, most everyone hates Relena and what else are shounen-ai/yaoi fans to do when they see an anime show about 5 cute men and about 2 woman?] I actually have no idea. I have never seen Gundam Wing, but people claim that Heero and Duo are a good couple.

I personally don't like the couple, but whatever. Let's talk about a more 'based on facts and not fanservice' couple. TrowaxQuatre. I seriously do think that
Catherine is Trowa's sister
and Mr. I'm Perfectly Okay Wearing a Pink Shirt is at least bisexual. There are no possible girls in the anime that could pair up with them, either. And judging by Trowa's personality and probably scarred past, he has only let Quatre into his life.

People argue that the creators of these anime series never inteneded for certain couples to be gay. ::coughcough::HIEIXKURAMA::coughcough:: But the creators have also said [in more polite terms in real life] that they don't give a rat's *** about what fans do.

Let's take a look at my signature. Many of the pairings there are pairings someone like Milliefan would dislike. No offense, but I'm judging this off of what you said before. Kenshin/Sanoske? I'm a huge yaoi fan, and have no problem with it, but many people will argue [and are right] that both Kenshin and Sanoske are definately straight. Same goes for couples like Vash/Wolfwood.

But fear not, yaoi fans. There are plently of animes that actually have official gay couples....:toothy: ::hugs CardCaptors::

I find the Vash/Wolfwood, Kenshin/Sanosuke, and Hiei/Kurama pairings very offensive. Vash and Wolfwood are both obviously straight, Kenshin and Sanosuke are obviously straight, and Hiei and Kurama are just good friends. Why make jokes about them, it's stupid. The fans who write these may enjoy them, but it's at least a tiny bit offensive to most people who read them. If you saw the "Hiei in Kurama's pants" comic, some people might be offended by that, even though it's not yaoi. They'd find it offensive because it's about a made up fan character, Hiei, and Kurama in some weird sexual thing. It's very funny, but somewhere I'm also not amused. It's weird, so many feelings at the same time about one little comic.

Who says it's a joke? Most fanworks of the yaoi or shounen-ai persuasion are far from jokes. Just because something is found offensive by you is no reason for it to stop happening. I find excesive use of swearing offfensive but many movies have that in, doesn't mean that just because of me these should be banned.

Sorry, but these are what some people enjoy reading and enjoy writing/drawing whatever...if you don't like it, don't read it.

*grins* Whenever this topic comes up I can tell you almost straight off the bat which members will find it and make comment ;)

But I think Maladjusted and doukeshi03 have points. It's not a joke... it's just a different slant on the same subject. I mean, take HeeroxDuo (Since I can't be bothered to think of any other pairings) Fine, there's nothing to say that they are gay... but there's certainly nothing to say they're straight. I don't see Heero being overly enthusiastic about Relena's advances. And Duo and Hilde is the prefered het couple for Duo, but he doesn't pass any kind of comment about Hilde romantically.

I'm sure the same can be said for any anime. And if it can't, then let's just say it's a fan's take on what "could have been". If you don't like it, don't read it. There. Simple as. ^_^

Like me. :toothy: Same here. I've been in too many yaoi debates...O_o

Many people make jokes about yaoi couples because they feel like it. It's a joke, nothing something to be taken seriously.

It's not like I get angry when someone makes an obviously gay character and makes him straight. It's all part of the fanworks.
