Favorite band/music artist?

I often struggle to get people to listen to the bands that I like. I like Weezer, Ozma, Simple Plan and that sort of music. I have friends that listen to some things I like, but they also have their choices.

Mellow rock often attracts my attention. I also prefer less language, like cussing. It has to have energy in the music, but not too heavy for me.

I'd like to find out what bands most people haven't heard of, but are still a good band. So what does everyone listen to? I also ask that most of you listen to Weezer, Ozma, and Simple Plan at some point in your life. My main question is, what does everyone listen too? What are your favorite bands? I'll try and find them and listen to them.

I really like Supertramp, but no one I know's heard of them. Don't have the slightest clue if they''re well known elsewhere, heh.

Also, one that I haven't heard a lot about is Junior Senior. I supposed not many people really would, as they are a techno/dance band, I guess.

Anyway, Supertramp is easily my favorite band... They have such a wide range of sound. "Bloody Well Right" and "Goodbye Stranger" sound completely different, and I love when a band can do that. Not to mention that "The Logical Song" is probably the greatest song ever written.

One of my favourite bands, well its more of a hip-hop group really, is 'The Herd'. They are an Australian group that deals a lot with politics in their lyrics. They are all artists from Elefant Traks who have been brought together for two albums, though the second is the more serious of the two. Needless to say, none of my friends have heard of them.

Another hip-hop group none of my friends have heard about are Ugly Duckling. They are extremely funny, or at least some of their songs are, and I plan to pur-chase the album before Christmas.

Lastly I think I should mention Hilltop Hoods, who aren't new on the Aussie Hip-Hop scene but have only just been noticed.

Well two of my favorite bands are Rammstein, and The Ramones.

I like Rammstein because they are very uniuqe. Most of their songs are a mix of metal and techno. You might not like them because they sing in Greman.

I also like The Ramones. I don't really know why. They have a very cool sound. I really like how almost all the songs are made of only three chords. They were also one of the first punk rock bands.

By the way if you get a chance you should check out HIM. http://www.heartagram.com

Supertramp was fairly well known at one point. I think you're just a little young compared to most of their fans heh. I'm sure most people here are familiar with a few of their songs.

I know there are a few Junior Senior fans here though. I posted about their CD on my site, actually. You're not alone, especially since D-D-Don't Stop the Beat is being critically looked upon as one of the better CDs this year.

I have a passion for Björk. *points to avatar* I wouldn't say she unknown, but when you compare her popularity in the states to her popularity in Europe there's a really big difference, but that's the case with almost anything that's foriegn. With that in mind I could make a really long list of unpopular music in the United States that's very, but I won't.

I've finally have heard of Björk's music finally! ^_^ I heard the music while browsing through the music CDs at Barnes and Noble's CD section. And I love her songs, I just need enough money to finally buy one of her CDs. O_o

I like various bands and artists. Most of bands that i like to listen to are in different languages. Heh..But anyways, here are some:

The Pillows- They did the music for FLCL. w00t
Nanase Aikwa (sp?): I really love her voice, its not too high pitched nor is it screaming like most Japanese rock singers do.
Evanescence: I can relate to their lyrics, and all of their songs aren't just about love, but also the opposites.
The Vipers: I believe they did the song of "Turning Japanese".
Berlin: An old 80s band, yet still I like them.
Do as Infinity: They did Fukai Mori and Shinjitsu no Uta, awesome songs that they have also.
Ayumi Hamasaki: Even though she does J-Pop, I still like her singing and that she writes most of her lyrics herself.
Every Little Thing: Good Japanese band. *nods head*

And last but not least:
WEIRD AL YANKOVIC! I love his parodies! I'm listening to one of his CDs right now. They're probably the only songs where they're funny and his lyrics can be written by a "genius". My favorite song of his (which I'm listening to right now) is Albuquerque. Here's the lyrics:
Way back when I was just a little bitty boy living in a box under the stairs in the corner of the basement half a block down the street from jerry?s bait shop
You know the place
Well anyway, back then life was going swell and everything was just peachy

Except, of course, for the undeniable fact that every single morning
My mother would make me a big bowl of sauerkraut for breakfast

Awww - big bowl of sauerkraut
Every single mornin
It wa driving me crazy

I said to my mom
I said "hey, mom, what?s with all the sauerkraut? "
And my dear, sweet mother
She just looked at my like a cow looks at an oncoming train
And she leaned right down next to me
And she said "it?s good for you"
And then she tied me to the wall and stuck a funnel in my mouth
And force fed me nothing but sauerkraut until I was twenty six and a half years old

That?s when I swore that someday
Someday I would get outta that basement and travel to a magical, far away place
Where the sun is always shining and the air smells like warm root beer
And the towels are oh so fluffy
Where the shriners and the lepers play their ukuleles all day long
And anyone on the street will glady shave your back for a nickel

Wacka wacka doodoo yeah

Well, let me tell you, people, it wasn?t long at all before my dream came true
Because the very next day, a local radio station had this contest
To see who could correctly guess the number of molecules in leonard nimoy?s butt
I was off by three, but I still won the grand prize
That?s right, a first class one-way ticket to

Albuquerque
Albuquerque

Oh yeah
You know, I?d never been on a real airplane before
And I gotta tell ya, it was really great
Except that I had to sit between two large albanian women with excruciatingly severe body odor
And the little kid in back of me kept throwin? up the whole time
The flight attendants ran out of dr. pepper and salted peanuts
And the in-flight movie was bio-dome with pauly shore
And, oh yeah, three of the airplane engines burned out
And we went into a tailspin and crashed into a hillside
And the plane exploded in a giant fireball and everybody died
Except for me
You know why?

?cause I had my tray table up
And my seat back in the full upright position
Had my tray table up
And my seat back in the full upright position
Had my tray table up
And my seat back in the full upright position

Ah ha ha ha
Ah ha ha
Ahhhh

So I crawled from the twisted, burnin? wreckage
I crawled on my hands and kneew for three full days
Draggin? along my big leather suitcase and my garment bag
And my tenor saxophone and my twelve-pound bowling ball
And my lucky, lucky autographed glow-in-the-dark snorkel
But finally I arived at the world famous albuquerque holiday inn
Where the towels are oh so fluffy
And you can eat your soup right out of the ashtrays if you wanna
It?s ok, they?re clean

Well, I checked into my room and I turned down the a/c
And I turned on the spectravision
And I?m just about to eat that little chocolate mint on my pillow
That I love so very, very much when suddenly, there?s a knock on the door

Well now, who could that be?
I say "who is it? "
No answer
"who is it? "
There?s no answer
"who is it? "
They?re not sayin? anything

So, finally I go over and I open the door and just as I suspected
It?s some big fat hermaphrodite with a flock-of-seagulls haircut and only one nostril
Oh man, I hate it when I?m right
So anyway, he bursts into my room and he grabs my lucky snorkel
And I?m like "hey, you can?t have that"
"that snorkel?s been just like a snorkel to me"
And he?s like "tough"
And I?m like "give it"
And he?s like "make me"
And I?m like "?kay"
So I grabbed his leg and he grabbed my esophagus
And I bit off his ear and he chewed off my eyebrows
And I took out his appendix and he gave me a colonic irrigation
Yes indeed, you better believe it
And somehow in the middle of it all, the phone got knocked off the hook
And twenty seconds later, I heard a farmiliar voice
And you know what it said?
I?ll tell you what it said

It said
"if you?d like to make a call, please hang up and try again"
"if you need help, hang up and then dial your operator"
"if you?d like to make a call, please hang up and try again"
"if you need help, hang up and then dial your operator"

In albuquerque
Albuquerque

Well, to cut a long story short, he got away with my snorkel
But I made a a solemn vow right then and there that I would not rest
I would not sleep for an instant until the one-nostrilled man was brought to justice
But first, I decided to buy some donuts

So I got in my car and I drove over to the donut shop
And I walked on up to the guy behind the counter
And he says "yeah, what do ya want? "
I said "you got any glazed donuts? "
He said "no, we?re outta glazed donuts"
I said "you got any jelly donuts? "
He said "no, we?re outta jelly donuts"
I said "you got any bavarian cream-filled donuts? "
He said "no, we?re outta bavarian cream-filled donuts"
I said "you got any cinnamon rolls? "
He said "no, we?re outta cinnamon rolls"
I said "you got any apple fritters? "
He said "no, we?re outta apple fritters"
I said "you got any bear claws? "
He said "wait a minute, I?ll go check"
"no, we?re outta bear claws"
I said "well, in that case - in that case, what do you have? "
He says "all I got right now is this box of one dozen starving, crazed weasels"
I said "ok, I?ll take that"

So he hands me the box and I open up the lid and the weasels jump out
And they immediately latch onto my face and start bitin? me all over
(rabid gnawing sounds)
Oh man, they were just going nuts
They were tearin? me apart
You know, I think it was just about that time that a little ditty started goin? through my head"
I believe it went a little something like this . . .

Doh
Get ?em off me
Get ?em off me
Oh
No, get ?em off, get ?em off
Oh, oh god, oh god
Oh, get ?em off me
Oh, oh god
Ah, (more screaming)

I ran out into the street with these flesh-eating weasels all over my face
Wavin? my arms all around and just runnin?, runnin?, runnin?
Like a constipated weiner dog
And as luck wouls have it, that?s exactly when I ran into the girl of my dreams
Her name was zelda
She was a caligraphy enthusiast with a slight overbite and hair the color of strained peaches
I?ll never forget the first thing she said to me.
She said "hey, you?ve got weasels on your face"

That?s when I knew it was true love
We were inseperable after that
Aw, we ate together, we bathed together
We even shared the same piece of mint-flavored dental floss
The world was our burrito
So we got married and we bought us a house
And had two beautiful children - nathaniel and superfly
Oh, we were so very very very happy, aw yeah

But then one fateful night, zelda said to me
She said "sweetie pumpkin? do you wanna join the columbia record club? "
I said "woah, hold on now, baby"
"i?m just not ready for that kinda commitment"
So we broke up and I never saw her again
But that?s just the way things go

In albuquerque
Albuquerque

Anyway, things really started lookin? upi for me
Because about a week later, I finally achieved my lifelong dream
That?s right, I got me a part-time job at the sizzler
I even made employee of the month after I put that grease fire out with my face
Aw yeah, everybody was pretty jealous of me after that
I was gettin? a lot of attitude

Ok, like one time, I was out in the parking lot
Tryin? to remove my excess earwax with a golf pencil
When I see this guy marty tryin? to carry a big ol? sofa up the stairs all by himself
So i, I say to him, I say "hey, you want me to help you with that? "
And marty, he just rolls his eyes and goes
"no, I want you to cut off my arms and legs with a chainsaw"

So I did

And then he gets all indignant on me
He?s like "hey man, I was just being sarcastic"
Well, that?s just great
How was I supposed to know that?
I?m not a mind reader for cryin? out loud
Besides, now he?s got a really cute nickname - torso-boy
So what?s he complaining about?

Say, that reminds me of another amusing anecdote
This guy comes up to me on the street and says he hasn?t had a bit in three days
Well, I knew what he meant
But just to be funny, I took a big bite out of his jugular vein
And he?s yellin? and screamin? and bleeding all over
And I?m like "hey, come on, don?tcha get it? "
But he just keeps rolling around on the sidewalk, bleeding, and screaming
(screaming sounds)
You know, just completely missing the irony of the whole situation
Man, some people just can?t take a joke, you know?

Anyway, um, um, where was i?
Kinda lost my train of thought

Uh, well, uh, ok
Anyway i, I know it?s kinda been a roundabout way of saying it
But I guess the whole point I?m tryin? to make here is

I hate sauerkraut

That?s all I?m really tryin? to say
And, by the way, if one day you happen to wake up
And find yourself in an existential quandry
Full of loathing and self-doubt
And wracked with the pain and isolation of your pitiful meaningless existence
At least you can take a small bit of comfort in knowing that
Somewhere out there in this crazy mixed-up universe of ours
There?s still a little place called

Albuquerque
Albuquerque
Albuquerque, albuquerque
Albuquerque, albuquerque
Albuquerque, albuquerque
Albuquerque, albuquerque

I said "a" (a)
"l" (l)
"b" (b)
"u" (u)
"querque" (querque)

Albuquerque, albuquerque, albuquerque, albuquerque
Albuquerque, albuquerque, albuquerque, albuquerque
Albuquerque, albuquerque, albuquerque, albuquerque
Albuquerque, albuquerque, albuquerque, albuquerque

Albuquerque

(belch)
This whole song is for 11 minutes, and I never get bored of it!

I have several favorite bands, which so many of the people I know says that its just "a bunch of loud screaming and noise." So by now you've guessed that I listen to heavy metal and a bunch of hard rock.

My most favorite bands include SlipKnot, Marilyn Manson, Metallica, and some older bands like Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden.

Hmm...Well I can really disagree with you on the Japanese rock singers screaming part. Really they dont all that much. I hear more yelling in american rock than in Japanese rock. You really should listen to:
-Dir en Grey <~Kyo the vocalist write the lyrics, the whole band writes the music.
-Malice Mizer
-Vidoll
-Merry
-FAKE?
-X Japan <~write their own lyrics and music

Now I am a picky person about my japanese music. Onto the JPop list:
-Ayumi Hamasaki <~wonderful voice
-BOA <~ wonderful voice again
-Gackt <~ his body, voice, other things...

And I also love Rammstein and Bjork!!! They are just so cool...hey my friend still has my Rammstein CD! Bjork is so pretty. I love "Army of me"

WOTTDEFFOK? I don't know anyone who hasn't at least heard Don't Stop The Beat.

I love JS. THey're one of my favorite bands.

Dude, why do you want to make people listen to the bands they like? It's no big deal if they never listen to ANY emo in they're whole life, much less those specific bands. Making people listen to your music is never.

What I do is drop the name of a band and if they're interested let them listen.. That's it..

My favorite band right now is Skinny Puppy. I just picked up "Bite" today. I also like Front Line Assembly, Wumpscut, Flesh Field, Apoptygma Berserk, and Front 242. So yeah, I mostly listen to Industrial/EBM/Synthpop. Among the more rock oriented artists I like are Incubus, Linkin Park, Tool, The Vandals, and The Offspring.

Well over the past year my music taste has changed dramatically. I used to find myself listening to bands like Deftones and Chevelle but then I embraced the metalcore genre. I never really got into the "screaming" bands, and still I don't like bands that offer only the scream sound. So I've been finding some that blend in the screaming with some nice melody vocals. And the bands I have found have climbed the ranks of my favorites. Avenged Sevenfold and From Autumn To Ashes would be the ones that stick out the most. Also TOOL is still my #1, but I have found another band that sounds slightly better than them, Katatonia. TOOL just has the history and style that hasn't changed, so I don't think anyone is gonna be able to top them as my #1.

I hate it when people ask me what my favorite band is, because I can never give them a straight answer. It kind of depends on what day it is, how I feel, and what musical phase I'm currently going through.

My musical phases so far have consisted of classical, jazz, rap, rock, and metal. I've never really liked country, but I do like some of Neko Case's solo stuff. It's very good countryish rock.

Now, if I were to pick one band to call my favorite, it would probably be either Frank Zappa (well...favorite person), or Pink Floyd.

XeEmO i used to be like u.... i never had a favorite one band or singer or anything, cuase to me, the if the music was good the music was good (into my Rn'B and hip hop here guys....)

Then it hit me like some kind of freight train from hell. I borrowed a Cd off my friend, and lo and behold, i will never be undecided again.

My favourite group is Jurrasic 5 by about 6 million miles. Lyrics are untouchable and the beats are unforgetable.... just try not to like 'What's golden'..... i dare u ppl...

I don't really have one particular favorite band or whatever, but the closest thing I've got to it (at the moment) is Coldplay. they just seem to get better with everything they do, from what I've heard. the Brothers and Sisters 'album' (made up of 3 songs) was good, their Parachutes album was really good, and then they came out with A Rush of Blood..etc., and it was great. their music is so mellow and relaxing, but not enough to put me to sleep. I'd like to get their new Live 2003 DVD, but the tide of money has not been with me very much lately.

I like a few christian rock bands (Skillet, etc) But for the most part I like Punk Rock/Hard Rock/ and various other genre's that really don't matter.

I tend to enjoy All American Rejects, Blink 182(sometimes), Linkin Park, The Starting line, POD, KISS(here and there), Metallica(old school Metallica, they're now becoming sell outs), oh there are a ton more...but I can't think of any right now!

Well, my favorite band, most people have heard of BLINK 182. I find their music style pretty good. not TOO many cuss words, but not too slow either. Good Charlotte is o..kk...but i prefer blink 182 over anything. Well, i'm out, and good luck with the thread.

Man, I'm kinda having trouble with the color thing. Oh well, so, i think my favorite band is blink 182. Most of the people around here have heard of them i'm sure. They are pretty good. Hopefully they will get a new album. For some reason i dont' really like their new album, but nothing against the people who do like it.
